gartamanta: there was no way a person could have left one regional service for the other unless by special appointment or loan. If you say otherwise, state the section of decree 34 that says otherwise and give one example where it happend. Mr Man: 1. As from the appointed day all offices in the service of the Republic in a civil capacity shall be offices in a single service to be known as the National Public Service; and accordingly all persons who immediately before that day are members of the public service of the Federation or of the public service of a Region shall on that day become members of the National Public Service. https://www.dawodu.com/decree34.htmOr do I need to interpret in another language for you to understand? |

gartamanta: This is sheer hypocrisy. This talk about Ojukwu sending his people to take over Northern positions is funny. Anyone in the federal service can be sent to work in any part of the country, that rule has always applied even to this day. Guy, most of your post had no real point; but I had to correct this. Yes, we had the Federal Civil Service and we ALSO had the Regional Civil Sevice in each region. With Decree 34 all regional civil services were abolished and basically merged into a humongous, monolithic civil service. That's all for now. |

aleniboro: The military is the only institution recognized to restore law and other whenever there is a state of anarchy. At that time, The major democratic leaders were dead. The only thing he could have done was to take over as he did. It seems you missed this: Under the law, that is, the Interpretation Act, as acting President, Nwazor Orizu had all the powers of the President. The GOC said he wanted to see all the cabinet ministers. And so we assembled at the cabinet office. Well, I have read in many books saying that we handed over to the military. We did not hand-over. Ironsi told us that "you either hand over as gentlemen or you hand-over by force". Those were his words. Is that voluntary hand-over? So we did not hand-over. We wanted an Acting Prime Minister to be in place but Ironsi forced us, and I use the word force advisedly, to handover to him. He was controlling the soldiers. The acting President, Nwafor Orizu, who did not cooperate with us, cooperated with the GOC. Dr. Orizu and the GOC prepared speeches which Nwafor Orizu broadcast handing over the government of the country to the army. I here state again categorically as a member of that cabinet that we did not hand-over voluntarily. It was a coup. |

gartamanta: If the above is true, the who is to be blamed for unitary rule we practice today? If someone introduces you to smuggling and you make a career of smuggling, who is to be blamed when you get caught? The person who introduced you to it or your self? Funny analogy. Have you "caught" the Northerners? As long as they continue to enjoy Unitarianism, they are yielding all the dividends of the idea given them by Ironsi. |

DobleO7: Well from the very little that I have read the Northern military officers were not aggrieved by Ironsi's take over. There was enough reason for suspicion going by the pattern of the murders. If he hadn't taken over, he may well be still alive today. Danjuma learned a very important lesson from this. |

DobleO7: Sure, the vice president is to take over in event the president was unavailable. During that time Nwafor Orizu acted as president while Zik was out the country. On the instruction of the coup plotters he handed over to Ironsi who ranked higher than other officers. Aha. Does that then mean the coup didn't fail after all? If the Acting President can be taking orders from coup plotters, can you call it a failed coup? Historians on this matter have pointed out that it was more or less a coup within a coup. Ironsi had NO reason to take over. |

DobleO7: So tell me who was suppose to take over since you have Phd in Hsitory. Ogbeni this is not history but commonsense. There is always a hierarchy in a democratic government. Now if the president is killed, who takes over? The most senior military man or Vice President? How about if both are killed? Isn't it the Senate Chairman who then succeeds? |

wirinet: Which proponent of diversification? She was finance minister of Nigeria for about 10 years for God sake, what diversification policy did she propose? She was the person who was suppose the formulate the revenue generating policies of the country but what did she do? She was granting waivers up and down, killing local industries. She even granted waivers on such mundane items like rice and vehicles. Then her other "diversification" policy is to mouth savings, without doing anything to get the federal government to save. She was more obsessed to saving the revenue due to the governors. i do not know where saving became a diversification policy. Thank you o! The woman was considered de facto President (along with Deziani and Patience Jonathan). Nobody COULD have gone against her if she started the diversification she now mouths off. |
