In my opinion, as the bible is against glutonny it can only follow that the consequences of gluttony can only be a sin. This consequence of gluttony is highlighted in Isaiah 26: 17-18

The evolution theory is not a fact, but only a theory. But even if it were a "fact", facts could be right or wrong; true or false. There are so many scientific and historical "facts" that were later found to be false, then labelled "past theories". You have not given me any concrete verifiable fact in this discussion since we started this discussion, if you have, please remind me.



I believe that organisms can adapt (especially physically) to changing life patterns. I think I observed it myself before I ever heard about evolution in secondary school. For example, I think girls nowadays reach puberty earlier probably due to earlier exposure to sexual thoughts and activities and i don't think that is too far from the evolution theory, but on most of his other propositions, I don't have any stong opinions, positive or negative. So if I have misrepresented my position on the evolution theory by say "I think there might be at least some truth to it", please correct me.



Excuse me! How do you know that the reason the African Elephants are developing smaller tusks is DUE TO danger from having larger tusks? How do you prove that with "concrete verifiable facts". Darwin always stressed that “survival of the fittest” was an underlying component of his theory of evolution but evolutionists cannot identify which aspects are important for survival because survival cannot be seen or proved. No evolutionist really  knows  how “natural selection” really works, or if it is currently working. Neither  has a “struggle for existence” been found to exist among plants and animals. You are only repeating what you have been told.

I ask again: after reading Genesis 1,2,3, do you think the author was meant it entirely literally or not? Your answer is key to soling at least some of the puzzle we have. Those quotes don't show don't show that "the Bible" takes it literally. Both Exodus and Genesis were written by Moses to the same people so if he repeats that God created the world in 6 days, I don't think that means we should take it literally. If I repeated what Genesis said: "Adam knew Eve and she bare him a son", would you take it to mean that he impregnated her by knowing her? Surely not. The 2nd passage you quoted even goes to corroborate my point. Its says "sin entered the world through Adam", while Genesis says nothing about Adam "sinning". It only said "he ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil". Do you really want me to answer all those questions? I will if you want us to turn this into a 'clumsy questioning contest' because I can also ask 100 questions at the same time which will be either difficult or impossible to answer, but will not prove wether evolution is true or not.



It is YOU THINKING after examining the "analysis"(by I don't know who) of the "facts" that were presented(by I don't know who). Different people or groups come to different conclusions after examining the different analyses of different people or groups based on the different "facts" presented by different people or groups. You are right there are so many scientific and historical "facts" that were later found to be false but this is due to the fact that unlike religions and doctrines, scientific theories and assertions can actually be put to test. Although to you this may look negative but this capacity to put things to test, to question everything, (something which most religions, including the catholic church, forbid) is a positive and welcome aspect of the scientific community and is the reason mankind has advanced so rapidily.

By admiting that organisms can evolve to adapt, you admit thus that god's original creation was not perfect. This puts the god is onmiscience mantra (a catholic doctrine) into serious doubt.

Although the african elephants phenomenon is not exactly proven to be "evolution" it still shows all the characteristics of evolution as defined by darwin. Long tusked elephants are hunted and killed, their population reduce, less hunted short tusked ones survive to breed and their offsprings are all short tusked. It is doesn't mean that elephants suddenly decided to grow short tusks in case you never understood what evolution by means of natural selection meant in the first place. Many people know how natural selection works and survival of the fittest means exactly what it says. Some people misunderstand it as survival of the strongest but this is simply a misunderstanding. You need to be fit and intelligent enough to adapt to your environment without becoming extinct. This includes hiding and dodging fights, hibernating, camouflaging, etc.

You can see that my 8 questions about the literal aspect of the bible were rhetorical. The main question was how do you determine what in the bible is literal and what is not?

After reading genesis 1,2 and 3, I think the author was telling the isrealites his own version of the creation of the world and everything in it. It is a folkloric tale of creation like it exists in every culture. Children take folklores literally. Adults know better. This is why it is highly bemusing that Paul and the rest of christianity base their faith on these tales.

I appreciate that you can arrive at a different conclusion from me when considering the same dilemma but there's a big difference between that and inventing something else altogether to make your conclusion plausible.

Did you consider that christian quote I posted? Do you agree with those? Please note that catholic doctrines are not infallible. Infact the church has and is still abandoning teachings it held as sacred and indisputable a few centuries (and even decades) ago.
