That's a weak argument especially since its 'been there, done that' - The most famous face of Nigeria, model Oluchi Onweagba in fact dated and married an Italian. A white Italian, Luka Orlandi.[/quote]God Bless You! |

Delisting of Moribund Stocks Imminent Usually reliable sources have confirmed to us that subsequent to the Council meeting of the Nigerian stock Exchange on Monday this week, a list of stocks that have been subjected to the necessary due process for delisting may be announced anytime soon. A cursory look at candidates for delisting suggest that stocks in the aviation and textile sectors may be affected. Some firms like Onwuka Hi-tek are expected to make the list as well as one of the firms which have been in the news lately. We understand that one of the firms in the textile sector may be in the final stages of discussions/negotiations with a frontline entrepreneur and owner of a group of companies who have indicated interest in buying the company and turning it around. This could not come at a better time. The list has an unconfirmed list of no less than 18 names, though it is expected that the announcements may be in batches. It will be recalled that the Director General of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Dr. (Mrs.) Ndi Okereke-Onyuike had hinted as much at a parley with members of the capital market correspondents association. Zinox set to list on the Nigerian Stock Exchange Zinox, which recently recapitalised with over N3.5 billion and acquired Technology Distributions Limited and Task Systems to form a conglomerate; intends to approach the stock exchange for listing as a publicly quoted company. |

NAHCo declares dividend, bonus By Goddy Egene and Eromosele Abiodun, 04.03.2008 Thursday, April 3, 2008 Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCo) yesterday announced a dividend and bonus share for its year ended December 31, 2007. The company, which was listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) last November had paid a dividend of N0.30 and a bonus of three shares for every two shares held for the year ended December 2006. It has announced another dividend of N0.30 and a bonus of one new share for every eight shares already held for the year ended December 31, 2007. In its audited results made available the NSE, NAHCo recorded a turnover of N3.681 billion in 2007, up by 13 per cent from N3.212 billion in 2006. Profit before tax rose by 41 per cent to N785.9 million, from N555.9 million in 2006, while profit after tax grew by 36 per cent from N434.1million in 2006 to N589.9 million in 2007. Consequently, the directors recommended a dividend of N0.30 and bonus issue. According the company, its register will close from April 28 to 30, while the dividend would be paid on May 9, 2008. This implies that investors who want to benefit from the dividend and bonus must have their names on the register before April 30. Positive market reaction to the results lifted the share price of the company by N1.37 or 4.9 per cent from N27.50 to close at N28.87 per share. NAHco accessed the capital market for N2billion last September through offer for public subscription and rights issue. The proceeds of the offer, the company had said, would be used be used to fund its business growth and expansion strategy. Meanwhile, prices of shares closed higher at the stock market yesterday as the bulls attempted to regain control of the market for the second time in a week. Since the market began its downward trend last month, the bears have been in control. But the bulls attempted a return last Thursday, a move that was halted by the bears the following day. However, the bulls resurfaced yesterday pushing the NSE All-Share Index and market capitalisation by 0.3 per cent. The index appreciated from 62,606.90 to close at 62,812.33, while market capitalisation grew from N12.04 trillion to N12.08 trillion. The Managing Director of Crane Securities Limited, Mr. Mike Ezeh, had told THISDAY last Tuesday that once the prices got to a level where investors fell comfortable, they will increase their demand for the stocks. This, he had said, would eventually lead to appreciation of stocks prices. “What is happening is normal. In every market investors buy at low price and sell at higher prices. Many investors bought some of the stocks when their prices were very low. Now they would want to sell now in order to reap the capital gain. And when there are not enough buyers, this will lead to price slide. “Besides, when prices get to a stage, the market forces would correct the system. That is exactly what is happening. When this slide continues for sometime and investors feel very comfortable with level of the prices, they will increase their demand and this will again lead to appreciation,” he said More stocks closed on the positive side, led by Nestle Nigeria Plc with a gain of N8.95 to close at N275.89. Conoil Plc chalked up N6.40 to close at N134.40 per share. Conversely, Chevron Nigeria Plc led the price losers with a N15 to close at N290 per share. Oando Plc dipped by N9.67 to close at N183.78 per share. In all, investors traded 658.319 million shares worth n12.474 billion exchanged in 19, 674 deals, down from 792.678 million shares valued at N11.871 billion in 19,237 deals the previous day. |
