Good. Are these APC members wailing as well? See them making reference to what was obtainable in the past. I thought they are championing CHANGE? Or is it just when the CHANGE favours them against their opponents that they scream CHANGE!? The PDP senators must have brought and supported this rule with Amaechi in mind to serve him his CHANGE slogan and show their influence in the present senate.
PDP is synonymous to wailing, hence no APC will wail. Change is here and Nigerians are embracing it.

Simply put, Ameachi is the target. The senate's sledge hammer will crush him. What about Fayemi? Mtcheeeew! In as much as I like Fayose, he sometimes disappoints me. Why on earth will you start supporting Fayemi in his ministerial bid? If he left Ekiti in #79billion debt, then he is obviously a bad manager that is not fit to represent Ekiti. A man should be known for his principles; Fayose should stop darting about like a hoopoe bird. When you defeat your enemy, make sure he's not only defeated but destroyed beyond redemption, or else, he'll be back to destroy you. #finishfayemi
It goes to show that Fayose no get sense. He was only blabbing like a mad goat, making accusations without fact. Now, he is rooting for someone he almost slaughtered verbally. Shame on him!

CrimeWire Abandoned By Electricity Workers Electrocutes 15-Year Old Pupil (Photo) by lolaxavier(op): 6:15am On Oct 09, 2015
A 15-year-old resident of Ishaga Road in the Idi-Araba area of Lagos State, Afusat Musa, has been electrocuted by a live wire that was partially disconnected by officials of Eko Electricity Distribution Company.

About four officials were said to have stormed the neighbourhood penultimate Tuesday, around 2pm, and disconnected wires from houses, whose residents had yet to pay their bills.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the wire cut from a storey building was, however, abandoned on the roof of a mosque near the building, while the other end was still attached to an electric pole. Moments after power was restored on the fateful day, Afusat, a Junior Secondary School three pupil, who lived in a house next to the mosque, was electrocuted.

She was said to be returning from an errand at about 7pm and touched the metal pole of an aerial
mounted beside her house. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was confirmed dead on arrival.

A brother of the deceased, Aminu Musa, told PUNCH Metro that the manager of the Idi-Araba office of the EKEDC visited the community after the incident was reported at the Itire Police Station and the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency.

Aminu added that the manager denied knowledge of the workers’ operation in the area on the fateful day. He said:

“Immediately Afusat died, we went to the Itire Police Station. LASEPA was also informed about the incident. The following day, LASEPA officials, the electricity workers and their manager visited us. The manager denied sending his men to disconnect wires.”
Afusat’s mother, Zainab, a trader, said the workers eventually admitted complicity in the occurrence when people confronted them, adding that the case was not properly handled because the family was not influential. She said:

“We initially thought it was our wire that caused the electrocution, but it persisted after my daughter died. It was somebody who rushed in to tell us that a live wire was abandoned on the roof of the mosque, which touched our house’s roof. The workers initially denied that they did come to our area for the operation. But when people insisted they were the ones, they apologised, saying the wire was mistakenly abandoned. If Afusat was from a rich family would the case die like that? They did not even come in to sympathise with us; they stayed outside.”
The deceased’s father, Alhaji Muhammed Musa, who described her as obedient, said her death was caused by the nonchallant attitude of the electricity officials. He said:

“Many wires were disconnected that day and we had to settle them to fix them back. I paid them N1,500. A wire was not re-fixed because the residents of the house did not settle them. It was carelessness on their part to have abandoned the wire that was not disconnected from the pole. When there was electricity later that day, people started complaining of shocks but we did not know where it came from until Afusat died.”
The Chairman of the community development association, Mr. Rasheed Bakare, said prior to the incident, several invitations had been sent to the electricity company for a discussion on the poor state of electric poles in the area, but were ignored. He said:

“Before this incident, we have written letters to EKEDC, inviting them for deliberation on lingering issues relating to electricity in this community, but they did not honour our invitations. There are cases of falling wires and illegal pole climbing, among others, which we wanted to discuss with them.”
The Lagos State police spokesperson, DSP Joe Offor, said efforts were on to get the statements of the workers complicit in the pupil’s death. He said:

“The DPO informed Lagos State of the incident and invited the concerned workers to the station, but they have yet to honour the invitation. Whenever our men go to their office, they are always told that the workers have gone out. We are still making efforts to ensure that they come to the station.”
Calls made to the line of the spokesperson for EKEDC, Mr, Godwin Idemudia, rang out. He had also yet to reply to a text message sent to his number as of press time, PUNCH reports.

PoliticsRe: No Asset Forms, No Screening, Senate Tells Ministerial Nominees by lolaxavier(op):
Saraki, master criminal in asset declaration, should be in Kirikiri.

Meanwhile, this is a purposeful step taken by the senate. Buhari's signal is hitting every sector. The insanity of running from the law will be stemmed if you know your hands are clean.
PoliticsNo Asset Forms, No Screening, Senate Tells Ministerial Nominees by lolaxavier(op): 5:49am On Oct 09, 2015
The Senate on Thursday released the criteria for screening President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial nominees. The screening is scheduled to commence on October 13.

On top of the demands from the nominees is: come with a proof that you have declared your assets.

Briefing journalists at the end of plenary, Chairman, Senate ad hoc Committee on Media and Publicity, Dino Melaye, said the upper chamber at its closed session agreed on hurdles to be scaled by the nominees before their eventual clearance.

Melaye explained that the senators insisted that each nominee must submit proofs of their asset declaration; must have their nomination approved by two senators from their states; and must have a clean bill of health from its public petitions committee, among other conditions.

Submission of asset declaration form was not included in the modalities for screening ministerial nominees in 2011.

President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, is currently on trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal for alleged false asset declaration when he was governor of Kwara State between 2003 and 2011.

Melaye said, “We considered a number of issues that had to do with the approach and the procedure for the screening of the ministerial nominees. So, we developed two modalities for the screening of the ministerial nominees.

“The first criterion is using constitutional provisions as stipulated in the 1999 Constitution (as amended) as a fundamental procedure for the screening of ministerial nominees.

“Section 120 of the Standing Rules of the Senate states that the Senate shall not consider the nomination of any person, who has held any public office as contained in Part 2 of the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution prior to his nomination unless there is a written evidence that he has declared his assets and liabilities as required by Section 11(1) of Part 1 of the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Such declaration shall be required for scrutiny by the senators. What this Section is saying is that every ministerial nominee must produce proof of compliance as required by the Constitution and the Rules of the Senate.

“You must declare your assets, and you must have a certificate of proof that you have declared your assets, and that you are given a certificate of proof by the Code of Conduct Bureau.

“We also, in line with our convention, agreed that for you to be cleared as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, minimum of two senators from your state must, at least, show support for your nomination.

“It’s a convention by the Senate, and we have decided to uphold that convention in the sanctity of the integrity of the Senate. The era of take-a-bow-and-go is over. We are still going to maintain that, except with slight modification as regards former senators and former members of the National Assembly.

“For those who have been members of the House of Representatives and senators before, for them to become members of the House of Representatives and senators, they must have met those conditions before now.

“So, they would not be exposed to the same rigorous scrutiny that those who were not members of the National Assembly will face.”

He added, “The Senate is also going to give priority to former members of the National Assembly in terms of the time for the screening. What I’m saying is that we may call up those, who are former members of the National Assembly before we begin to consider those, who are not members.

“We also, as a matter of modification for the take-a-bow-and-go, where it concerns only former members of the National Assembly, they may be questioned only by the chairman of that sitting, who is the President of the Senate.’’

No fewer than 25 petitions have been submitted by various individuals and groups seeking to stop the clearance of some of the 21 ministerial nominees.

Checks at the office of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions showed that 25 petitions had been submitted to it as of the close of work on Thursday.

Apart from the petition against former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi , which was submitted by the three senators from Rivers State to the senate president on Wednesday, another senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Danjuma La’ah, submitted his on Thursday against the nomination of Mrs. Amina Mohammed from Kaduna State.

La’ah wrote on behalf of the Southern Kaduna Coalition, an amalgamation of all the pressure and public interest groups of Southern Kaduna extraction. Mohammed’s accusers said she was not from Kaduna.

The petition, signed by the group’s coordinator, James Kanyi, read in part, “We have credible evidence to believe that she is an indigene of Gombe State and not Kaduna State as constitutionally required.”

Eleven of the ministerial nominees were however at the National Assembly on Thursday to submit their Curriculum Vitae ahead of next Tuesday’s screening.

The deadline for the submission of the CVs, according to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Ita Enang, is Friday (today).

Saraki on Thursday asked the committee of the Senate currently investigating the petitions against the nominees to submit its report before the screening starts next week.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has disagreed with the Senate new rule that a ministerial nominee must get the support of at least two senators from his state to scale through screening.

The spokesman for the APC in Rivers, Mr. Chris Finebone, told our correspondent in a telephone interview on Thursday that something was wrong with such a rule on the screening of ministerial nominees.

Finebone explained that a ministerial nominee did not need the support of any senator to be confirmed a minister.

The three representing Rivers State in the Senate – Olaka Nwogu, George Sekibo and Osinakachukwu Ideozu – are all members of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Amaechi, the nominee from the state is of the APC.

Calling on the Senate to forget about such criterion, Finebone recalled that Musiliu Obanikoro, who was from an APC state, but a member of the PDP, was able to scale through and became a minister.

He said, “I am sure that there is something wrong there; there is something not correct there. I know we have had cases where, for an example, Obanikoro never got the support of any senator and he scaled through. So, there is something I suspect that is not right there.

“Beyond Obanikoro, we have also had other examples where ministerial nominees never got the support of senators from their states and they scaled through. How about states where the senators are all from the opposition party? Does it mean that the Federal Government would surrender to the opposition?

“I don’t think it has been happening in the past. There were places where the senators were from the opposition, yet the Federal Government got its ministers not from the opposition party.

“The Senate should forget about such a rule because in the past it never came to play. I want to be sure that it is a new thing they have invented. But it does not work that way; it will not work that way. I don’t want to also believe that the rules are changing with some persons in mind.”

Also, a former aide to the immediate past governor of the state, Mr. Tony Okocha, recalled that two senators in the past had opposed the nomination of Mr. Henry Ogiri for a position in the Niger Delta Development Commission but that Ogiri eventually scaled through despite such opposition.

“It does not follow. Are we not Nigerians? Obanikoro, who was from a state in the opposition party in the past, was made a minister in recent past despite coming from the state from the opposition party,” Okocha said.

Point of view quite understood.
Not living within one's means is very detrimental to success and progress. I can see some people above me trying to make excuses for him. Wanting to brag shouldn't be an excuse to rent Psquare when you know there's upcoming Taofeek behind your house that will just settle for a plate of rice and probably charge you 10k and still make the event fun.
My point is if you can't live within your means before marriage, you may end up ruining your marital home by the time you see your school mate driving g-wagon and you want to do the same when all your life savings can't even buy a bumper. End result - stealing, greed, irritation, anger (when you can't get what you want), indebtedness, frustration etc.
Op, did you say 50k? In fact, he may end up paying for wedding expenses for the first three years of marriage. What joy is in that? Find out who your friends are.

This is really a sad incident as reported by eyewitnesses how a single mother of three, locked her children in a room and went out to spend the night with a man who promised to pay her N2,000, only for her to come back and meet two of the children dead from a fire disaster » that consumed the plank house she lived in.

The tragic incident happened in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and this is how the witness narrated it:

"A single mother of three, left her three children to go and hustle for 2k. She went with her client for the night for just 2k. She left her kids, two boys and a girl, locked up inside the room with the candle light on.

From 11:58pm, the room burnt down, affecting her neighbors and killing her first son and daughter. Only one of them survived the fire.

Her husband had died leaving her to struggle for the kids and all she can do is to sell her body.

The police came and arrested her as she returned this morning. She confessed that the man paid her 2k for the night and she used 200 for transport.

This same woman also gave birth to a baby boy few months ago in her room and left the baby to bleed to death through his placenta.

She lives in Bacher, in Akar road, Rumolumini Community, Obiakpo LGA, of Rivers State."

What a shame!

In November, 2014, a woman in Jos, Plateau State, who could not take her boyfriend's treachery, locked her two children in a room with the candle light on and went to fight her rival. Upon her return, the house had caught fire, burning her children, aged four and two, to death.

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, on Tuesday said he was not surprised by the current travails of a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, in the United Kingdom given that the nation’s economy had been badly managed over the years.

Oshiomhole said no average Nigerian fared better under the ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration despite the media hype over a reported rebasing of the economy.

The Edo governor spoke with State House correspondents after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said, “For me, I don’t think anybody should be surprised (about Alison-Madueke’s trial in the UK) because even the most favourable commentator on the Nigerian condition, the economy, the polity and the society, agrees that our economy was badly mismanaged over the years. I have not seen one commentator that disagrees.

“Even when they talk about rebasing, and so what? Have you rebased the level of poverty? Have you rebased prosperity? Have you rebased unemployment? Have you rebased homelessness? Have you rebased hunger?

“So, I have not seen anyone that says Nigerian people are doing better. This was never my issue. I was only a spokesman for the National Economic Council.

“But in this country, when you speak out, all the arrows would be fashioned to attack you. But one of the things I learnt in life at the age of 17 when I got into the leadership of labour is that the truth does not require supporters’ club. It can stand on its feet any day. You can hit it. You can kick it. You can bomb it, but you can’t destroy it.”

Oshiomhole said the truth had been that a lot of money was stolen under Jonathan’s watch.

He said the ongoing travails of Alison-Madueke could only be described as a tip of the iceberg.

The governor said, “The truth is that a lot of money was stolen and what you are seeing is just a tip of the iceberg because when you imagine what accrued to Nigeria consistently from $140 (per barrel) averaging $108 over a long period of time and yet your treasury is empty and you were running a budget deficit.

“You were devoting 85 per cent of your budget for four consecutive years to recurrent; you were borrowing and you drew the entire pensions fund.

“Yesterday, I saw a lot of analysis of how pension fund should be invested on infrastructure.

“You challenge PenCom and the Ministry of Finance, you will discover that over N3.5tn was drawn down by the previous government from the pension fund to support recurrent expenditure, not to support infrastructure.

“I wonder why you want to hear it from me because some of the issues we parrot flow from what we have read from your electronic media and print media arising from what you have observed.

“There have been probes, there have been revelations where whistleblowers have been removed from office, and they became guilty for speaking out.

“I believe that time will tell how much was taken and who was involved. I think what you are hearing now is like appetiser. It is sickening. It used to come from America, now it’s from Britain.”

When asked if the Federal Government had a hand in the former minister’s ordeal, Oshiomhole said, “It is not about who has a hand in what. I think it’s about law and order. In other climes, institutions do their work. They are not at the beck and call of the political authority. They have their mandate and the law specifies this and it is scrupulously followed.”

He said he was the happiest person concerning the current developments because he had been in government for seven years without being in power.

He said his happiness was not because of personal benefit alone but also because of the changes he was seeing.

He said, “I am the happiest person because I have been in government for seven years without being in power. I was in government; I could not call a commissioner of police and talk as a chief security officer.

“I was haunted by all manners of persons. You kill a snake in Edo, they will put the snake on life support in Abuja and they keep harassing us.

“Now, all that venom is dead and buried. For the first time, I am excited and happy not just for personal benefit but for the changes I am beginning to see.

“They have not started scrutinising, just blocking the holes; it’s no longer flowing like before and so the propensity to indulge in those conspicuous habit already curbing themselves.

“People are regaining sanity, human rationality is returning and the idle class that makes money without office or business address, whose only address is an iPad and cell phone with appropriate phone numbers is lamenting and not sure of tomorrow.”

CrimeBank Manager Remanded For Allegedly Stealing N12m by lolaxavier(op): 8:25pm On Oct 06, 2015
An Akure Chief Magistrate Court has remanded a 43-year-old bank manager, Fatai Aguntasolo at Olukuta prison custody for allegedly stealing N12 million given to him to load into the bank’s Automated Teller Machine (ATM).

The accused person, who is the manager of a new generation bank, is facing charges of stealing and fraudulent conversion of N12 million to his own personal use.

It was gathered that the accused person committed the offence at Ido-Ekiti cash centre of Skye Bank Plc under the Akure Regional Office, in Akure Magisterial District on July 8, 2015.

The accused person pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Ajibola Aderemi prayed the court for an adjournment of the case to enable him assemble his witnesses and study the case file.

Counsel to the accused person, Barrister Ajayi Adeolu urged the court to grant his client bail in most liberal terms assuring the court that he would not jump bail if the application is granted.

Besides, he reiterated his readiness to provide a credible and reliable surety who would stand for the accused person.

The prosecutor, however, opposed the bail application on the ground of the nature of the charge and possibility of influencing the witnesses.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Olayinka Omole, in her ruling granted the prosecutor ‘s application and ordered that the accused person be remanded in Olukuta prison custody.

She, thereafter, adjourned the case till October 7, 2015 for continuation of hearing.
