Geminita: So it's just one book for a month then.. 3 weeks for reading, 1 week for review... No. What I meant is, we read the two books in 3 weeks then review both in the last week of the month. |

Jack273: Me too, although I don't have any excuse, I've been playing since morning. I think is because we started late sha but as from next month we will have at least 14 days for each book unlike this month that it's just 10 days each. I'm not really feeling the book... Read Anna Karenina in like 4days and I can't finish a 390 paged book in 10days. |

Jack273: We read a book for 2 weeks and review and discuss the next 2 weeks while we are reading the 2nd book of the month. This way we can do 2 books per month.
I feel 3 weeks might be too long for reading and it will be hard to count in 3s Aiit aiit... Me Sha I've not finished this one. |

Geminita: Do you think having a review for a whole month won't be too much At some point, there won't be much to say again ..
It's a good suggestion tho Yea.... A month is too much. Jack273.... I think we should read the books for 3 weeks then review on the fourth week.... The book we read this month will be reviewed the first week of next month.... Wahyasay? |

] Geminita: Book: Orchestra of Minorities Author: Chigozie Obioma
Relatable,intriguing, Authentic
The story talks about the Igbo tribe, their Chi( gods) and ancestors. It talks about a young man called Nonso whose life became something else when he saved a lady from committing suicide on the bridge..
His story is not told by him rather by his Chi (Guardian angel in igbo language). His chi can even negotiate with chukwu (God) on his behalf.. His Chi can't force him to do things but can only suggest things to him through thinking and imagination.
Romance was born and he found himself sacrificing a lot for the love of his life.. The lady is a pharmacist while Nonso is just a poultry farmer.. So much difference between both parties from educational background to Financial Background.. He calls her “Mommy,” the way other men might refer to a lover as “sweetheart” or “darling.” “Every good woman is my mommy,” he says. And elsewhere:
He was scammed when he was trying to get into the white man's land (Cyprus) to be precise. His childhood friend called Jamike deceived him and took all his hard earned money.. His nightmare began..
He was arrested in Cyprus for crime he didn't commit and he spent four years in prison before the truth became unveiled..
He couldn't get married to the woman of his dreams because it was too late when he came back to Nigeria..
This is not a love story but a story of rage, Class,Hustle..
These are part of the quotes I copied from the book
-Hatred is a vandalism of the human heart. A man seeking justice with his own hands must dispense it as quickly as possible, or he risks being destroyed by his own dark desire.
-tomorrow is pregnant no one knows what it will birth.
-Love is a thing that cannot be lightly destroyed in a heart in which it has found habitation.
"Orchestra of minorities" as used in the book refer to the cries and mourning of the birds whenever one of them is being slaughtered or killed by hawks which in human world too it is used to describe the voices of the mases And less privileged - The ones whose voices ain't heard -The ones who can't stand and fight not because they're weak but because the spirit of fear is In them. - those who risk everything in order to better their lives and forge ahead.
-If you're expecting something like "Happily ever after", I am sorry to say that this book isn't for you because it ended sadly...
All the same,it is one of those books that you will want to read over and over again.
Chigozie obioma writes well. He described the Igbo cosmology very well and I will say "He is indeed a talented writer"..
Thanks
If I knew Buchi Emecheta's Joys of Motherhood was gonna end sadly I wouldn't have read it. not done with the book yet and was expecting a happy ending. you shouldn't have spoiled this for me |

mcquin: Let's for the sake of argument agree I am Igbo, question is what's the problem with you going your way? If Nigeria is a country to be proud of, do you think any group would want to pull out?
You know why "Freedom of Association" is embedded in the 1999 Constitution as amended? I'll tell you why, it simply is because it appeals to reasoning that a person or group has a right to choose who or what group to associate with. If the men in uniforms can figure that out, I wonder why democrats can't. So you think Nigeria breaking up will solve all this problems huh? all the bad people will automatically turn good because the country has broken up ko? |
