EducationWhat Some Redditors Think Of Nairaland by Lorayne(op): 9:12pm On Jun 21, 2020
Saw this on reddit today...

Here re some of the comments

Gbebodi:I is an exact replica and a mini version of Nigeria and all its problems. There's some good, some bad and some ugly, all in good doses
PrinceO__5h Never heard of it but I just looked it up and I see a lot of tribalism and hate being spewed. Sad.
quinceedman5h Nairaland is shit. I still use it every day cos of some threads I follow though.
HoxHoundOwerri5h The politics and news sections are garbage. Other sections can be quite useful, depending on your interests.

It's very unfortunate that Nairaland is most Nigerians' gateway to the Internet. Seun's refusal to crack down on tribalism in the early days has permanently set the tone for the website.
nathandrake2008 The section is vile...that is where you see most tribal warlords. Other section can be informative and interesting
XxdapsxX4h It's too Toxic, too many trolls. You can't really have a serious civil discussion on the website. I avoid at all cost.
Epoch789United States5h I used to browse it semi regularly for the humor (humor can be actual jokes or just laughing at users flaming each other) but like 4chan and anything else where large groups of people hangout uncensored have to leave it alone before I get upset over the sheer amount of garbage content and belligerence.
Dark-Taheer3h I avoid it at all cost...It's wild and scary...the amount of ignorance there, is impossible
oreeos_3h It’s wild out there. It’s like a miniature version of the actual country where the common man is.
Chiskie2h As a woman living in Nigeria, it is absolutely hell and I had to stop going there for almost a year.
I have wonderful men in my lives and to see how they trash women there, I'm worried about ladies with low self esteem gauging their self-worth from the discussions on that site.

Horrible place for a young person trying to figure out life. It's a shame tbh.

AuNaCN2h Nairaland politics section is toxic
vegasbm1h
Discussions can be constructive, or be an utter waste of time. A lot of people see their anonymity as a license to disrespect others.

I used to be an active participant, until discussions became one where people want to have the last word, no matter how much evidence you provide that proved them wrong.
What can be done to fix the place? I don't really know, since Nigerians are stubborn and don't follow rules.
spacyzumaUnited Kingdom1h It's truly reflective of Nigerian culture and people.

While there is so much trash and stupidity there, some valuable threads do exist with amazing knowledge treasures. I follow and contribute to a few, especially the threads for nigerians studying, working, living in UK.
Snoo_6020743m Sexist, racist, tribalistic... It's not good for your mental health. Seriously.

There's many things you can do/go into. There's Data science, cyber security, Artificial intelligence (especially in healthcare), software development etc.
If you can acquire knowledge skills in IT you can work abroad especially post COVID-19.
I think he's confused on what to learn. I have the same problem.

HealthRe: Coronavirus Is Real. My Friend, A Med Lab Scientist Just Died by Lorayne(m): 10:58pm On Jun 07, 2020
kingi777:
Good day Nairalanders. Since March this year, Covid-19 has been the major issue in Nigeria as it led to the shutingdown of the economy.

Many people don't believe the existence. My dear people, I was having a double opinion about the existence too. For the first time, I'm beginning to believe the pandemic does exist. My friend who was a Medical Laboratory Scientist with Kaduna State Ministry of Health and the head of the laboratory unit, Gwantu General Hospital was down with malaria like symptoms and treated himself for several days with no improvement.

Though he was a high blood pressure patient. The fever increased and symptoms of Covid-19 started manifesting. He was taken to Kafanchan Gen Hospital but no Doctor agreed to come close to him when they saw his critical condition. He was advised to check into the isolation centre but when they got there, there was nothing on ground as everywhere was dirty with no facility. The family was advised to take him to Kaduna isolation centre but he gave up the ghost as he was under distress all these while.

His samples were taken and it came out positive for Covid-19. His corpse is deposited at Kafanchan Gen Hospital at the moment. The people that were running up and down to save his life were helpless as they watched him dying. Their samples had been collected yesterday, taken to Kaduna today and are awaiting the outcome of the results.

The question they are asking is: why is government saying they have spent huge sum of money with nothing to show for it especially in other parts of the state/country? Should preparation for Covid-19 management be made only in the state capitals? What about towns that are very far from the isolation centres in the state capitals? Government should do something to accommodate the people by creating and equipping more centres in the hinter lands.

Corona virus (Covid-19) is real!
Do you know anybody anywhere in Nigeria who has died as a result of Covid-19?
Hmm... I'm in Gwantu and I've not heard anything about this yet.
Will go into town to confirm tomorrow sha

It aint big but they are pronounced making her look non sexy

Which do you find more attractive and appealing between Oshoala and the lady below??
God!.... She doesn't have to look like oshoala... Haba!... Oshoala is a footballer for God's sake she does other rigorous trainings that make her look that way... Just because modestgal wants to start weight lifting doesn't mean she's gonna end up like that.
RomanceRe: Before & After Image Of Pretty Agile Looking Lady After A Week Workout by Lorayne(m): 8:07pm On May 29, 2020
Albertone:
So you mean female footballers who have muscles(Aishat oshoala below) do use steroids?
People like them lift weight to keep fit not to participate in muscle competition making use of steroids unecessary

The fact you stated is absolutely true. But after the muscles burn the fat,she will end up looking like Aishat oshoala and many female footballers
Nawa for you o .... Is this one muscular? Oshoala muscles ain't that big na
RomanceRe: Before & After Image Of Pretty Agile Looking Lady After A Week Workout by Lorayne(m): 7:53pm On May 29, 2020
Albertone:
Its better you get interested in losing fat instead.

Building muscles will only make you look masculine and unattractive.
No man wants to romance or smooch a body with muscles(feels gay).
A man's body should be muscular and toned,a woman's body should be soft and fleshy.

Imagine your boyfriend/husband having big ass and man boobs with figure 8....
This is not true..
She will only get muscular if she takes steroids.
Weight lifting will help her lose weight faster than cardio(muscle burns more calories at rest).

Ilekokonit:
You actually do not need to pay for an IT training school as you can learn it yourself at home IF YOU ARE DEDICATED to studying 14 hours a day 7 days a week for 90 days with a view to doing and passing the relevant certification exam at the end of 90 days.

All you will need are :-

1. Researching which IT skill set is in demand on job boards where you live.

2. Buying a powerful laptop / desktop

3. Buying / Downloading a LICENSED software relating to your chosen skill set.

4. Buying a HARDCOPY book relating to your chosen skill set - some of these books also come with the software on a CD.

5. Install the software on your computer.

6. Open the book you purchased from PAGE 1 and read EVERY PAGE in the book and practice EVERY THING you've read on the software platform you've downloaded onto your computer.

7. Do this reading / practice for 14 hours a day, 7 days a week every day for 90 days.

8. Don't stop until you get to the last page of the book.

9. Youtube Videos and Online Tutorials on the IT skill set will also augment your studies.

10. Once you've reached the last page of the book then search online for practice questions relating to the Certification Exams relevant to your chosen it skill set.

11. Practice these NUMEROUS questions until you score at least 90% EVERY TIME you do a new set of question bank.

12. Now search for a company licensed to offer certification exams in that IT skillset in the city you live in and book a date for and pay for the certification exam.

13. Attend the certification exam and sit the exam.

14. Once you score at least 70% (preferably higher) in the exams, then update your CV with this newly acquired IT skill set and certification n=and if you happen to score higher than 85% in the exams, shout it on the rooftop on your CV and if necessary attach a copy of your certification to your CV.

15. Start applying online for IT jobs that require your IT skillset preferably targeting big multinational / very large organizations that will have funding to employ IT experts (one of which you are now). NEVER apply for jobs at a one man band company as your rights will most likely be trodden upon and your wages may not be paid as and when due.

16. Desperate times require desperate actions and so you should target applying for at least 100 jobs a day and this will mean not wasting too much time on job applications that require you to fill out lengthy application forms as serious IT jobs are happy with just a CV and short cover letter.

17. Before the ideal job offer comes, you can speculatively approach New Media companies such as Nairaland, Linda Ikeji etc by sending them your CV to see if they have any relevant vacancies and/or offer to render your services on a voluntary basis for 3 months as long as your transport costs are covered.

18. If you had to go for step 17 TEMPORARILY, then at the end of the 3 month voluntary work, update your CV with this 3 month HANDS ON working experience as you now have someone you can use as a referee if employers ask.

19. Now do steps 15 and 16 above RIGOROUSLY until that good paying IT job comes.

20. IF you DILIGENTLY follow steps 1 to19 above, I will be surprised if you don't get a lucrative IT job after 6 months.

IT is the present and the future and is one of the few careers where pandemic or no pandemic, you can work in your pyjamas from home and get paid a good wage because IT WILL ALWAYS HAVE A SKILLS SHORTAGE as new skills are entering the market daily and keeping up with the teenage whizz kids the world over who are churning out new technologies daily requires an army of people who are not afraid to put their brain through some HARD CORE thinking and here lies the skills shortage as not everybody likes putting their brain through mental stress but everyone wants to use Watsapp withouth fully appreciating what these tech wizards have put their brain through to produce these ground breaking applications.

All the best.
Nice!..... But 14hrs a day bros? grin ... That's how many hours we get light in a week here.
