Igbosmoker:Stop disgracing yourself? Highest goal scorer for Juventus in winning the League. Paid the path to the Nations League final with the hattrick against a resolute Swiss side. Scored the winning goal in the Italian Super Cup. For all of Messi's ability, he was found wanting against Liverpool when all he needed to do was score one goal. Disappeared for the most part in the CdR which Barca has won for the last four times. And became a talkative at the Copa America. Only senseless Messi stans think after that poor season he deserves a Balon D'Or because he was scoring goals against Levante. Especially when VVD has been unplayable throughout the season, and CR7 at 34 in a new league continues to defy nature. -Lord |
Igbosmoker:Messi will win what? Messi won just one trophy last season. Ronaldo won 3. Balon D'Or is VVD, Ronaldo, Messi. -Lord |
Eyedea:I think the word to describe it is faith not confidence. I don't think the team has confidence. If they do, it'd be of the Dutch variety. But beyond that it's the Los Blancos. Regardless of how we individually feel about the team, there's no doubt that come Day 1 of the new season there'd be a Hala Madrid fever! -Lord |
BroadStreetBull:That was quick. It'd suck if that's how long you last in the other room. Yeye! -Lord |
BroadStreetBull:CR7 dropped a breadcumb and you're here hyperventilating. Who is pained? When you're tired, you'd drop the act. Pele and Maradona regularly prop themselves up. Again I say, kill yourself if CR7 doing it makes you flustered. -Lord |
Rajmeista:We can only hope they face the same issues the original Galacticos faced. Beyond that, we're royally f*cked, as the issue really isn't their team. We'd meet them at most 6 times. The real issue is that we run a risk of dropping points against virtually any decent opposition due to our profligacy in front of goal and glaring defensive holes. -Lord |
BroadStreetBull:CR7 also literally said: "“Messi is an excellent player who will be remembered not just for his Ballon d’Or wins, but also for having improved – like me – year after year." He was asked what's the difference between himself and Messi. He toot his own horn. If you have a problem with that, kill yourself. -Lord |
monerozi5590:For the record, Jovic had two clear-cut chances to put the game to bed. One he just shot it blank at the GK instead of placing in at a side (L or R). Hazard too. That's not on ZZ. This is supposed to be a transition. It appears we'd need an overhaul after all. As for our match against CV, I don't think anyone would be surprised if we don't keep a clean sheet. The way I see it, the only way to plug (not even solve) our defensive issues is to play negative football. Because the 3-5-2 fswitch didn't really change much. -Lord |
Miremoses1:ZZ and tactics in the same sentence?! Let's not pretend that is a thing. The highlights of Zizzou's managerial proficiency are his man management, team setup, and on his best days, in-game reading. Whenever the opposition is up to snuff, it boils down almost always to individual brilliance and pure grinta. With peak Isco, Modric, Marcelo, Navas, and The One that must not be mentioned, it all fit snugly. Now we simply do not personnel playing at similar high level since we're in transition. If I were to make a suggestion. It'd be to save the tested and trusted old guard for the 10 or so CL games. I can't for the life of me understand how he expects players like Kroos and Marcelo to hold down the fort playing every game like it's a UCL final game (since every team sees us an an agoge trial). -Lord |
airmark:CR7, LM10 in that order. 3/4 = Neymar/Hazard. Beyond that the list is murky, as most of the elite players are at the same level. Interesting that Neymar doesn't make your top 7. All of this is subjective tho', so no qualms. -Lord |
BlueAngel444:You're making my point for me. We bought Hazard for 150m precisely because PSG paid 200+m for Neymar; and full deal (+ addons) for a teenage Mbappe of 190m. How are any of those prices justifiable? Saying Barca has a part blame is like saying Man U has a part blame for buying Maguire for 80m. The ball was set in motion and they had no option but to acquiesce. It is satisfying and poetic that the first club the overestimation is haunting significantly is PSG. At 222m, Neymar is overpriced. It's nothing personal, just business. -Lord |
airmark:The keyword is arguably. Although I'm curious, who do you think other than Neymar takes the 3rd spot? -Lord |
BlueAngel444:Dude is arguably the third best player on the planet; his injuries and locker room issues notwithstanding. The bottom line is when players of his quality are available, you roll out the checkbook no questions asked. Well, that is if you have the funds. If he wasn't overpriced, say $90-$120m; he'd have found a home already. PSG is reeling from their own error of screwing up players' valuation. -Lord |
FergieRaww:Solely because Salzburg was clueless in the final third. Southampton would have shat all over that second-half defence. There are signs of improvement tho'. If we can build on the first half performance; good on us. But Perez and Zizzou need to renew our subscription with that Black Magic Dibia. Because if Case gets an injury; that'd be it for our season it appears. -Lord |
Ever so often Marcelo just does that god-like control. -Lord |
Maybe we'd get a goal with the youngies introduced. -Lord |
Lord Vazquez on his way! LV and Zizzou; a better love story than Twilight! -Lord |
Lawd we're so not ready! -Lord |
The Tinkerer is back! Why I dig Zidane. -Lord |
Miremoses1:True that. Can't take away from Kubo's technical ability tho'. A blind man could tell he is a thoroughbred La Masia product. -Lord |
Zidane said all he needed was one win. Well he's got it. -Lord |
Kubo should take shooting classes with Vinicius. -Lord |
Miremoses1:If it were up to me, the youngies should take the mantle forward. At least they have hunger. -Lord |
Miremoses1:Tell me sth I don't already know. I'm trying to look at things with a glass half-full perspective -Lord |
ISCO?!!! ![]() -Lord |
Miremoses1:Anything to get his confidence up. But the way we're looking goals sha... -Lord |
Hattrick for the man of the hour! -Lord |
usbcable:Hey, it's just for entertainment. Prolly need some considering how rough the last year has been on the thread... Got to appreciate their commitment tho'. You can't coach that. A clink to hopefully a better season ahead. -Lord |
This should be fun... *grabs popcorn* @usbcable, Miremoses1; please make space on the couch! -Lord |
FBS:...Or we were easy pickings. Arsenal bossed us for much of the pre-season game with them. ATH is much better, have a special dislike for us, and helped themselves to goal after goal because we were sh*t. The scoreline should easily have been in the double digits. Personally, I'm not losing sleep over it; but it shouldn't be taken as though Athletico put on a different garb. If ATM approached the game like a proper league match, ATM would have wrecked so much havoc that we might have been inclined to rename our stadium. -Lord |
usbcable:I think he'd make changes. After the Arsenal match he said he couldn't defend his players based on the performance. He is still experimenting with the lineup. As for Vazquez. All coaches have their favorites who they curiously have burning fascination for. Moreover, Vazquez wasn't on the pitch when the team was pummeled 5:0 in the first half. We all know Zidane's teams are all about offensive output; because they're always liabilities at the back. The concern now is that the midfield is joining in the laxity. Which means against any quality side we'd be torn to shreds. Ideally, we're supposed to have a mix of youth and experience. The problem is that everyone spare a few players are actually performing above average. Odriozola isn't old; dude was a catastrophe yesterday. Isco too. I have no idea what Nacho was doing. Jovic was anon until his injury. So as far as I'm concerned, Perez and Zidane have a stinker on their hands. It's not like they can buy 10 players in one transfer window. Even if they do, it's not like they're all going to acclimatize to Spanish football, or the coaches technique, or RM philosophy (whatever that is) within weeks. Personally, I don't think the old guard can give any better than they have been giving recently; but I'm going to shut my piehole and watch the sh*tstorm or miracle that occurs this season. -Lord |
