Car Talk / How Volkswagen Got Away With Diesel Deception by lordmassac(m): 8:39am On Sep 30, 2015 |
Volkswagen said on Monday that 11 million of its diesel cars worldwide were equipped with software that was used to cheat on emissions tests. RELATED ARTICLE How Did the System Work? The software sensed when the car was being tested and then activated equipment that reduced emissions, United States officials said. But the software turned the equipment off during regular driving, increasing emissions far above legal limits, possibly to save fuel or to improve the car’s torque and acceleration. It is not yet known which systems were modified. But experts are focusing on parts of the exhaust system that are designed to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxide, a pollutant that can cause emphysema, bronchitis and other respiratory diseases. Exhaust system of a Volkswagen Golf Volkswagen has used two basic types of technology to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides from diesel engines, by either trapping the pollutants or treating them with urea. The first type is shown here. Nitrogen oxide trap. This system traps nitrogen oxides, reducing toxic emissions. But the engine must regularly use more fuel to allow the trap to work. The car’s computer could save fuel by allowing more pollutants to pass through the exhaust system. Saving fuel is one potential reason that Volkswagen’s software could have been altered to make 11 million cars pollute more, according to researchers at The International Council on Clean Transportation. Which Cars Are Affected? The Environmental Protection Agency has said it will order Volkswagen to recall seven of its American car models with the affected engine type, for a total of about 500,000 vehicles. Volkswagen has not released a list of international models that have the same engine. The on-road testing in May 2014 that led the California Air Resources Board to investigate Volkswagen was conducted by researchers at West Virginia University. They tested emissions from two VW models equipped with the 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel engine. The researchers found that when tested on the road some cars emitted almost 40 times the permitted levels of nitrogen oxides. Politics / Live From Ilorin: Senate President Bukola Saraki Stoned In The Eid Prayer Ground by lordmassac(m): 11:04am On Sep 24, 2015 |
The Eid prayer ground in Ilorin, Kwara state was thrown into pandemonium when the Senate President Bukola saraki was stone as he showed up for the Eid-kabir prayer. The anti riot police deployed to the ground were stretched beyond their limit as they couldn't keep the situation under control. Over 50% of the people couldn't complete the prayer cos the PAS and the local radio station had to cut transmission to reduce the embarrassment . Verily, it's a very tough time for the Senate President if this is coming from his own people. Kwara people are waking up. Pardon my errors if u find any. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Politics / Northern Group To Saraki: Resign Now by lordmassac(m): 10:19am On Sep 19, 2015 |
The Northern Ethnic Nationalities Unity Congress (NENUC) yesterday called for the resignation of the Senate President Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki. The call came just as the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) secured a bench warrant for the arrest of the embattled Senate President by the CCB Tribunal over allegations of false declaration of assets dated back to 2003. The group said the Senate President should resign before he drags the image and reputation of the office he presently occupies further in the mud. Speaking with reporters yesterday, the National President and Convener of the group, Mr Bako Benjamin, said it is disgusting that the Senate President would rather be seeking court’s protection than going before the anti graft agency to clear his name of the charges. “Let the Senate President come to equity with clean hands. Let him defend himself against all the charges levelled against him in the spirit of the new wind of change blowing across the country,” Benjamin said. He said the anti-corruption war spearheaded by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration would be futile if people like the Senate President continue to seek protection from the law courts rather than presenting themselves for the acid test. Benjamin, who noted that the recourse to the court itself is an admission of guilt, said: “Seeking protection from the law courts is sending a strong signal that he (Saraki) has something to hide.” The group, he said, has therefore given the Senate President a three-day ultimatum to honourably resign to prevent impeachment proceedings against him for his eventual removal from the exalted office. NENUC said Saraki’s continued stay in office is “capable of sending wrong signals to the international community and pose a huge question mark on President Buhari’s commitment to ridding the nation of corruption. He said NENUC would not hesitate to mobilise other well-meaning Nigerians to march on the National Assembly in protest should the Senate President refuse to honourably resign from office within reasonable time. http://thenationonlineng.net/northern-group-to-saraki-resign-now/ |

Romance / What Is The Average Penis Size? by lordmassac(m): 12:34pm On Sep 11, 2015 |
To satisfy the curiosity of men (and women) worldwide, many scientific research papers have tried to answer the question to which many men want an answer - what is the average penis size? Published findings are often introduced with background information on men's widespread anxiety about whether or not their penis is big enough, and if sexual partners are going to be satisfied. So what is the truth? Given the ubiquity of free, easily accessible internet pornography, and the rise in aggressive marketing by companies promising a bigger penis through the use of extenders and enlargers, it is easy to see why the truth about male genital length and girth might have become obscured. Perhaps it is no surprise then that researchers consistently find that men have heightened anxieties about their manhood. And another aggressive industry pushes dubious promises of a bigger penis through enlargers and extenders. Unfounded worries about inadequacy are not helped by the fact that a man's own view of his penis automatically makes it look smaller to him than to someone else. Looking down at the penis from above makes it appear smaller, compared with how it looks straight on, or from the side. Seeing one's own penis from this perspective, and comparing it with other men's appendages from a different perspective, may, therefore, reinforce false ideas of penis size. Women seem to care less about penis size than men Male concern about whether penile size lives up to the desires of females seems to be largely misplaced. Almost half of men in the study (45%) believed they had a small penis - yet the researchers reported that small penis size was actually rare. Some 170 women answered questionnaires in another study, which found that while they attached some importance to penis size, it was only of "substantial" importance to a "clear minority" of the women.2 While most of men's worries about penis size centre on the length, women are more interested in width, according to one study.3 The study of 50 sexually active undergraduate women reported that penis width was more important to sexual satisfaction than penis length. When is penis size too small? Perhaps the best gauge of what is considered to be a small penis is given by the threshold used by doctors for when penile augmentation may be considered. Researchers publishing in the Journal of Urology studied the penis sizes of 80 "physically normal" men, measuring penile dimensions before and after drug-induced erections. After finding average sizes, they concluded:4 "Only men with a flaccid length of less than 4 centimeters [1.6 inches], or an erect length of less than 7.5 centimeters [3 inches] should be considered candidates for penile lengthening." What is 'normal' or average penis size? In a study weighing in on the issue of small or normal penis size, researchers found that an average length among a group of men was:4 8.8 centimeters (3.5 inches) for the flaccid 12.9 centimeters (5.1 inches) at the erect. The study also found that the size of a man's erect penis was not correlated with the size of his flaccid penis, meaning that men whose joysticks are different lengths when flaccid may have similarly sized erect joysticks. This finding was further supported by a study of 200 Turkish men, in which "flaccid length had little importance in determining erect penile length."5 http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/271647.php 1 Like |

Nairaland / General / Buhari Angry Over Subsidy by lordmassac(m): 1:50am On Aug 27, 2015 |
’Payment manipulators wicked’ From Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja An angry President Muhammadu Buhari has called manipulators of fuel subsidies payment leading to its escalation into billions of naira as wicked. This is even as he has warned that severe sanctions will be visited on any individual or organisation that violates the directive on payment of all national revenue into the Federation Account. The President has also blamed past administrations for the current situation in which Nigeria is forced to spend billions of Naira annually on alleged subsidies for petroleum products. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, quoted the President as saying at a meeting with the Chairman and members of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), that the escalation of petroleum subsidy payments in recent years was due to the deliberate neglect of the nation’s refineries, oil pipelines and other related infrastructure to allow for the importation of petroleum products and corruption to thrive. Buhari again used the occasion to express his huge disappointment with the way Nigeria’s oil industry has been run since he left office as Petroleum Minister and Military Head of State, stating that he was convinced that if the development of the country’s domestic refining capacity and petroleum products distribution network had kept pace with national demand, there would not have been any need for the huge subsidies currently being paid to importers. “They allowed the infrastructure to collapse so that their cronies can steal by bringing in refined products from overseas,” President Buhari said. The President urged the chairman and members of the RMAFC, who availed him of their view on the vexed issue of petroleum subsidy payments, to go “back to the drawing board” and come up with more humane proposals to rescue ordinary Nigerians from the “wicked manipulation” of the country’s oil industry by corrupt operators. The President said that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, the Nigerian Ports Authority and other MDAs which previously relied on the laws establishing them to retain all or part of revenues collected by them, did so illegally and must now comply with the Nigerian Constitution by paying all revenues to the Federation Account. President Buhari, who also chided the RMAFC for approving excessive remunerations for some political office holders, urged the commission to seek a proper interpretation of its powers and address the public outcry against the unreasonably high payments. http://sunnewsonline.com/new/buhari-angry-over-subsidy/ |
