I have issues with my email and unable to respond to PM at the moment, you may ask any question here or be patient till I sort things out. Apologies.
Ok...i guess you are a rotary pilot. please share your experience. where you sponsored by your company through your training? someone advised me not to sponsor myself this period as jobs are limited, is this true? I have contacted some schools in the US but the cost of training is very expensive, and are you a dual rated Pilot? what advice will you give me?
I'm more interested in helicopters by the way. thanks

Stop commenting on what you don't know. Pay is based on experience and rank. 3,000usd is the starting salary for most airlines f.o. There are Nigerian pilots earning at least up to 15000usd. I earn about 9500usd. Don't comment on what you do not know.
Hi...I just sent you a PM. please check your email

To the best of knowledge, Fixed wings and rotary wings pilot have a different salary scale. You may want to be more specific about this. Having said that, I will weigh in to give an clue about rotary wing pilots salary. If you get trained by any helicopter operator, I'm afraid you may begin your career with a regrettable figure (it's worse with a Nigerian firm) of 250K. However, as you build your flying hours and progress from mere FO to SFO to Captain, you'll be earning slightly over $3k to $8.5K depending on what client your company is flying for and your type ratings. At the moment in Nigeria, helicopter pilots flying for Shell earns more than their counterparts but you need AW139 rating.

That being said, if you would like to go into flying, Fixed wing will offer you the shortest route to become Captain with less earnings. The reverse is the case for rotary wings. My advice is if you are about 30yrs, start with fixed wings, when you become a captain, convert to rotary wings.
Thanks a lot. I just sent a PM please check your mail box. Please

Very interesting post and I think I will add one or two things . Decades ago,I told some friends that very soon chasiers and bank work will be contracted and outsourced and that a mechanical engineer can easily become a Bank manager ,it was at a time when Bank workers were getting loans and selling their properties to fund their education to become a chartered banker.
Secondly I told so people in a conference that becoming a Chartered Accountant will soon become a wasted efforts since what companies require is an accountant that is ready to work towards a pre defined figures of profit and loss ,in essence cooking the books and defending it . Such companies are the one that are witnessing patronages all over .
In fact there are number of software that can audit and balance the most difficult account and even point out fraud and error .
In essence Nigeria is becoming a country where you will only use what you have as talent to eat and live .When you now study a course that matches your talent ,you will be making money as if you are not working . It is not by strength or sheer mathematical precision in your academic career that will give you comfort .Lots of Nigeria are lazy in reading and forecasting the trends most especially universities students mosly preoccupied with C Soweto and Aluta jingles.
You will suffer till you die if you ever listen to any one or lectures on socialism or egalitarianism. The world is moving toward the survival of the fittest .Nothing will disturb you from making your money if you have the talents and abilities. You take it to a premium level if your background education is in line with your talent
Don't go to school for the purpose of just getting admission, No. Of what value are you to your parents after taking a Master Degree in fine arts and still taking subsidy from your parents and relation to support your marriage .
Instead of wasting years on a unproductive course ,get something to learn that fit your interest and at the opportune time you will get admission to read your preferred course. In fact who is forcing you inside jail as a full time student, if you have a good business ? Go for part time courses sandwich and Distance learning and keep your business or vocation in full working mode .
As for those who are graduates of political science and any be going for their PhD with the hope of getting selected as a Senator, you are dreaming ,once you find yourself as a graduate in awkward courses, please take the fast and choose a new field by learning or associating with those who can put you through .
I was using an office in Ikeja some years back ,the entire floor is made up of system engineers and telecommunication. You know what is funny ,of the around 40 of us working there who are friends or friend of friend ,nobody did a course pertaining to the field . Some graduated in Agric, biochemistry, accounting, language arts, classics , vetinary medicines , lab tech and others .Even some lawyers who don't want to die in poverty or engage in legal fraud giving them embarrassment now go for business that is fitting into their interest .
So don't let your children get admission for the sake of admission, study the trends in business and development, read widely and observe global trends and don't allow your children to be idle . Lastly in anything you do ,do it differently, use your education to give packaging so as to command premium on your charges .
You are free to ask questions or clarifications
This post just made my day. True talk

A lot of people believe their whole live revolves around what they studied in school while some others do not believe so. So tell us what you studied in school and what you are doing now. Don't leave the thread unless you drop something. It can't start with me because I'm still in school. keep it rolling!!

I am a web designer (I'm not an expert yet). I just completed my first project. it's a blog with home page, about me and contact me. That's just 3 pages. I am self taught by the way. If I am to sell this blog to a client that does not know anything about coding. How do I make it possible for him or her to be able to easily create/edit blog posts including pictures, place adverts on the blog etc. In simple terms, how can I make it possible for my client to have a dashboard where he or she can have control over the blog without having to code. Thanks

All I can say is that North America (Canada & USA) is the land of opportunities. Nothing can stop you to achieve what you want except yourself. I have seen people with degree in history switching to IT. So, you can do it. Just keep upgrading your skills each year by getting different certificate in IT and you will be fine.
Thanks a lot

I have been living in London, Ontario since 2009. London is 2 hours west of Toronto(right in the middle of Toronto and Detroit, Michigan). So, you can use either airport for international flights.

London is home of one of the majors universities in Canada, University of Western Ontario. The city is mostly white. I have a colleague from Quebec who is white Canadian who always told me that London is a white capital of Canada. According to her, there are more white people per square inch in London than anywhere else in Canada. I don't know how true this is. However, we have a growing immigrant community. The black community is getting bigger. There are 3 African churches in London, Ontario.

The rate of living is relatively lower in London comparing to that of Toronto. Most of the people I know who have moved to London have been able to purchase their first home (something some people claim would have been difficult to do should have they stay in Montreal or Toronto). Nevertheless, housing in very cheap in London comparing to Toronto.

I have young kids and I find London to be a very nice place to raise kids. There are a number of Africans who have been able to open their own business in London. As far as jobs, I am in IT and have basically been working with the same company ever since I am in London, I wouldn't be able to tell you how easy or difficult it is to find a job here. But, I have seen new comers getting jobs all the time.
Adding to that, the government of Canada has programs that would help new comers to enter the work force.

If you want to move to London, I would say go for it.

If I may ask, what is your field of interest?
I am studying geology but would like to switch to IT (Majoring in web and software development). How feasible is this for me in Canada. any advice?

NONETHELESS, I WILL ADVICE YOU GO FOR WEB DEVELOPMENT (FRONT AND BACK END) THAN FOR SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT (MOBILE, DESKTOP, ETC) AS THERE ARE MORE DISTINCT WEBAPPS THAN THERE ARE DISTINCT SOFTWARES.

YOU CAN ALSO LEARN SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT EVEN MORE EASIER WHEN YOU MASTER WEB DEV.

In Nigeria and most Countries, Web Development Is easier to

1. get Started with - lower startup capital / investment. Major investment is in yourself (your brain)
2. Earn your first pay.
3. Get more jobs / contracts within a short period (not waiting for a whole year or 8 months to get next job).
4. Sorry but I need to get back to work. Goodluck in your Hustle

Currently i am learning in web development and programming. But the course i study in school does not relate with computers, can i get a job with my knowledge or do i still require to get a degree on a computer related course. Cos when i graduate i want to be a full time computer programmer and web developer
Web development is a skill on it's own. As long as you are good, it doesn't matter what you studied in school. Which institute are you learning it, or are you learning on your own?

Maybe average of 30-40k a month for the average ones. Web dev is a broad term. Any software can have a web interface and Nigerians term them websites.
30-40k!!! Thats really poor. From the bolded, can you refer a web developer as a software developer?

If I understand what you mean - you want a client to be able to update his/her website right?
There 3 ways to solve this :

1. Create a content management system (cms) to handle Html pages. This can be done with php mysql, asp.Net,etc. You can also enable it to create blog posts. (Since you know just Html, this may be hard for you).

2. Install an off-the-shelf CMS package like WordPress in the site's subdirectory to take care of the Blog.

3. Save yourself headaches and use WordPress for everything, both web pages and blog pages.

Hope I have been able to help.
