WHY NIGERIANS MAY BE DISAPPOINTED IF PETER OBI BECOMES PRESIDENT IN 2027

Before anybody starts throwing chairs, this is not a prophecy that Peter Obi will fail.

It is an examination of why he could struggle if he becomes President.

1. THE PRESIDENT IS POWERFUL ON PAPER… BUT NOT ALONE

The Nigerian President has enormous constitutional powers.But there is one small problem:He cannot personally do everything.

He cannot wake up on Monday morning, wear military camouflage and enter the Sambisa forest himself.He gives orders.Other institutions execute those orders.

And that is where the real problem begins.
Take insecurity.
If the President orders the security agencies to fight terrorism, he still needs the security structure to actually carry out those orders.
And if parts of that structure are compromised, corrupt or unwilling to cooperate, what exactly does the President do?

And this is where the allegations surrounding political sponsorship of criminal and terrorist networks become important.

If people who are alleged to be connected to such networks remain inside the political and institutional system, then the President could find himself in a very strange situation

You cannot appoint the arsonist as fire chief and then be surprised when the building refuses to stop burning. 😂

2. PETER OBI MAY HAVE A POLITICAL NETWORK PROBLEM

This one is even more interesting.Presidential power in Nigeria is not only about what you know.It is also about who you can work with.

A President needs governors.Senators.
Members of the House of Representatives.Party leaders.Traditional institutions.Security officials.
Civil servants.Business interests.Political allies.
And plenty of people who will tell you:
“Your Excellency, leave that matter for us.” 😂
Peter Obi has built a strong following among ordinary Nigerians.
But having millions of supporters is not exactly the same thing as having millions of politicians willing to cooperate with you.
You can have 10 million supporters on social media and still discover that the man sitting beside you in the National Assembly controls the committee you desperately need.
Facebook followers cannot pass a bill. 😂

3. HIS “STINGY” IMAGE COULD BECOME A POLITICAL LIABILITY

Peter Obi's supporters may call it prudence.
His critics call it stinginess.
Whatever name you choose, if he becomes President, the political class may not suddenly develop a passion for frugality.And that could create serious friction.
Nigerian politics has developed a culture where political relationships often depend on access, appointments, patronage and resources.

A man who wants to reduce political spending may discover that some politicians consider spending a form of friendship.8

4. HE MAY FACE OPPOSITION FROM THE SAME POLITICAL SYSTEM HE IS TRYING TO CHANGE

This is perhaps the biggest challenge.
If you come into power promising to change the system, remember:The system has people.And those people have interests. Some will cooperate.Some will negotiate.Some will resist.
Some will smile with you in the morning and attend an opposition meeting at night.
Politics is not Sunday school. 😂

And if Obi does not have enough political influence to bring powerful interests to his side, he could spend a significant portion of his presidency fighting political battles instead of implementing policies.

5. THE GOODLUCK JONATHAN PROBLEM

This is where the Professor becomes worried.
Goodluck Jonathan was President.He had constitutional authority.He had the office.He had the title.But he still had to operate inside a complicated political environment filled with competing interests.

If Peter Obi becomes President without building a sufficiently broad political coalition, there is a possibility that his administration could face a similar problem:

The man occupies Aso Rock, but everybody outside Aso Rock is negotiating the terms of his survival.
Winning the election gives you the key to the house. It does not automatically make everybody inside the house your roommate. 😂

FINAL VERDICT

Peter Obi may be intelligent.
He may be disciplined.
He may have good intentions.
He may even have excellent economic ideas.
But becoming President of Nigeria is not simply about having good ideas.
You need the political machinery to turn those ideas into reality.
And that is the question Professor wants Nigerians to answer:

Can Peter Obi build enough political alliances and institutional cooperation to actually implement his agenda—or will the system frustrate him until Nigerians start saying, “We thought this man would change everything”?

Never underestimate the power of the people who are not sitting in the presidential chair but are holding the keys to the machinery.

Artificial intelligence is making life easier, but are we making the human mind weaker?

Before AI became part of our everyday lives, we used our memory. We memorized speeches, solved problems ourselves, wrote projects, and exercised our creativity. Our brains were constantly being challenged.

Today, we can ask AI to write our speeches, assignments, emails, ideas—even our thoughts. The convenience is undeniable, but what happens when the brain is no longer required to work as hard?

And it goes beyond memory and creativity. If we increasingly depend on machines to think, communicate and even make decisions for us, could our emotional and intellectual development also suffer?

The question is not whether AI is good or bad. The question is: Are we using AI as a tool, or are we slowly allowing it to replace our own thinking?

What happens to the next generation if they grow up believing they never need to struggle through a problem because a machine will always solve it?

Technology should make human beings more capable—not less capable.

So perhaps the real danger isn't that AI will become too intelligent.

Perhaps the danger is that humans may stop using the intelligence they already have.

Should we really ignore that?

PRESIDENT TINUBU SPEAKS ABOUT THE RECENT TERRORIST ATTACKS AND KIDNAP OF THE SCHOOL GIRLS

A fire on Sunday gutted a significant part of Kayat Restaurant on Polo Road in Maiduguri, Borno State.

Eyewitnesses said the blaze started around 11 a.m. but was quickly brought under control by the Borno State Fire Service and the police.

The Public Relations Officer of the state police, Nahum Daso, confirmed that rescue efforts were ongoing.

He said, “Our team from the GRA police station is currently there, providing assistance to the Fire Service”

Umar Abdullahi, an eyewitness, said the area had been cordoned off, adding,” I just passed there now. A significant part of the place was still catching fire.

” However, there were fire service people there trying to douse the fire”, he said

Another witness, Martina Joseph, noted that bystanders were kept at a safe distance while efforts were underway to control the blaze.

She said, “The situation was professionally handled, they quickly controlled the movement of cars and people. From what I saw, only the building and maybe some materials caught fire”

The cause of the fire remains unknown.

Attempts to reach the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Fire Service in Borno, Fati Fali Murtala, were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.

PUNCH Online had reported a similar incident in March, a fire destroyed an electronics shop in Monday Market, Maiduguri, causing losses worth millions of naira.

The Borno State Police had then dispatched officers to secure the area and prevent theft during the emergency.

Zamfara APC chieftains drag chairman to court over suspension

Three chieftains of the Zamfara chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress have dragged their state chairman, Tukur Danfulani, before a State High Court in Gusau over their suspension, describing the action as “illegal, unlawful and unconstitutional.”

This was disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday.

The aggrieved officials — APC Chairman of Shinkafi South Ward, Babangida Shinkafi; Welfare Secretary, Kabiru Ibrahim; and the representative of Persons with Disabilities in the council, Ibrahim Kurya — were suspended for attending a November 11 stakeholders’ meeting.

The meeting was organised by the Wamban Shinkafi Democratic Front, a political camp loyal to Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi. The party regarded the attendance as an anti-party activity, leading to their suspension.



The suspended trio, however, argued that their suspension was issued verbally by the Shinkafi Local Government Chairman, Ibrahim Bama, without any formal allegation of wrongdoing or opportunity to defend themselves.

“It is unjust to punish fellow party members for attending a stakeholders’ meeting of the party duly convened for its progress. The purported suspension was issued by the Zamfara State APC Chairman, Tukur Danfulani.

“We shall not be distracted by activities of detractors and reactionary forces that do not mean well for our great party.“It is in the interest of justice that all parties in the suit should stay action and await the determination of the matter by a court of competent jurisdiction,” the statement partly read.

In the suit filed on November 14, they asked the court to declare them bona fide members of the APC and to void any attempt to suspend, expel, intimidate, or harass them.

They also sought a perpetual injunction restraining the state chairman or any party official from taking further action against them, as well as an order directing all parties to maintain the status quo pending determination of the case.

The officials maintained that they were duly elected in the 2022 party congresses and that their tenure remains valid.

Their suspension adds to the lingering crisis in the Zamfara APC, which has been plagued by factional battles since losing the 2019 and 2023 governorship elections. Stakeholders have repeatedly blamed the losses on the imposition of candidates and internal wrangling.

On November 1, APC leaders in the state met in Talata Mafara under the leadership of former governor Abdul’aziz Yari, where they endorsed President Bola Tinubu as the party’s 2027 consensus presidential candidate and pledged to ensure credible primaries going forward.

A similar meeting held by the Wamban Shinkafi Democratic Front on November 11 also endorsed Tinubu and backed Yari as the party leader in the state — a move that reportedly triggered the latest round of suspensions.

World marathon record holder, Kelvin Kiptum, dies in a car cra§h.

The men’s marathon world record holder, Kenya’s Kelvin Kiptum, 24, has died in a road accident in his home country.

He was k#lled alongside his coach, Rwanda’s Gervais Hakizimana, in a car on a road in western Kenya on Sunday, February 11, 2024.

Kiptum made a breakthrough in 2023 as a rival to compatriot Eliud Kipchoge – one of the greatest marathon runners. Kiptum bettered Kipchoge’s record, clocking the 26.2 miles (42km) in two hours & 35 seconds in Chicago last October.

The two athletes had been named in Kenya’s provisional marathon team for the Paris Olympics later this year. Kipchoge said on X that the man who broke his record was a rising star who had “a whole life” ahead of him to achieve “incredible greatness”, offering condolences to his family.

Also paying tribute, Kenya’s President William Ruto described Kiptum as an extraordinary sportsman who had left a mark on the world. The road accident happened at about 20:00 GMT on Sunday.

Best advice so far

There are a lot of people around this country like me who more than making money out of agriculture have passion for farming ( crop and animal) but it has became impossible to practice due to inability to raise capital because farming probably unknown to many is capital intensive and requires labour.

I've been farming for a long time now but not to a commercial level, I have access to land ( many cultivable hectares) and every time I go to farm I almost shed tears seeing business opportunities ahead of me but unable to utilize it due to lack of capital. I've only been farming on small portion of land which I can manage alone( Clearing, weeding, making ridges with crude tools).

Commercial Farming requires capital. No individual loan for Farmers, you can't get money through cooperative as it is only the influencial ones who benefits and continue to increase their riches, nothing in this country favours the poor.

Just fed up. With some thounsands I can get things done with my experience. Ideas burning in my head.... This is the fate of many nigerian youth the government keeps telling to go into farming.

Dangote built a $19.5 billion refinery and could not find 11,000 Nigerian technicians to run it, because all of you have degrees in botany and philosophy. Google it. Dangote had to import 11,000 technicians from India. They are at Lekki earning in one hour more than you make in a month, because you wasted four years studying languages and linguistics. The next thing is to join Obidients to blame Tinubu for your predicament. I greet you o!
