The family of a deceased woman from Ebonyi state has suspended her burial rites until her ‘husband’ who she was living with, performs her wedding rites.


The woman, Chinyere Mbam, died from the snake bite she sustained while returning from the wake-keep of her friend, Oge Ogashi. She was taken to a traditional healing home in the area for treatment and thereafter back to the husband’s home where she died.
Her uncle, Ishiali Ikwe, confirmed her death.

But the deceased’s family have mandated her partner, Stephen Mbam, of Enyi Igwe Village,
Ezzainyimagu community in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State to carry out her traditional marriage rites before she is buried.

It was gathered that the woman had been living with Stephen for three years and their relationship produced a child even though he did not perform marriage rites. According to the Uncle, the family, who are from same village, has put the burial on hold until Mr. Mbam performs traditional marriage on the deceased.

He further said that Mbam’s family, in line with the tradition, have scheduled a date for payment of the bride price to be preceded by the wedding.

When someone asks me what I’m looking for in a future partner, the first thing that always comes to mind is a big heart. It seems like a pretty simple, expected and straight-forward quality that likely, most people in your life have.

I try my best to keep with sarcasm and I can even fake it sometimes. When I crack a semi-sassy joke, my friends are always surprised. (Most) other times, I’m pretty sensitive and have to constantly remind myself that not every little thing means something, and that sometimes, things are just things people say without thinking. I’ll try my best to remind myself when we meet.

3. We remember every tiny detail you tell us.

One of my ex’s was a big Teddy Roosevelt fan and he had a deep-rooted interest in politics. So, for his birthday, I managed to win a bidding war on eBay for an original campaign pin from when Teddy became president. Did he cry when he opened it? Nah, but he came close. Whatever you tell me, I’ll remember — and it’ll be my goal to shock you with the details.

4. We need constant words of affection.

If you haven’t read The Five Love Languages, book mark this article and come back later after you’ve read it. You’ll figure out how you like to love and what kind of love you need in return, and for me, most important are words of affection … quickly followed by physical touch.

When we’re together, I want you to tell me you love me; that I’m awesome; that you want me, like now. The best part? I’ll always return the favor.

5. We want (and need) to do nice things for you.

No, but seriously. I’m actually looking forward to steaming your shirts before a big presentation. Or throwing you a surprise 40th birthday celebration. Or doing something ridiculously sweet for your first Father’s Day.

It makes me feel good that the people in my life feel appreciated, loved, and cared for. You’ll have to let me take care of you … if only just a little.

6. Our big heart comes with big fears.

The thing about having a big heart is that it comes with pretty deep-rooted emotions, and unfortunately, some fears, too. I have to constantly talk myself down off the edge of an imaginary cliff where I see all of my hopes, dreams, and future plans crashing down around me.

I’m afraid I’ll never get married. That I can’t have children. That I’ll never publish a book. So every once in awhile, you might have to give me a pep talk, or at least a Xanax.

7. We’re used to taking care of other people, but not being taken care of.

Scores have been reportedly killed and several others injured after bomb explosion hit Buhari Housing Estate in Damaturu, Yobe state.

Sanmay Ved was scrolling through Google’s new domains sale service when he typed in the address and discovered Google.com was available to buy.

Assuming there must have been a mistake, Mr Ved tried to add the domain to his cart – and was shocked to find he could.

“How come nobody just cuddles anymore?”

It’s a complaint you’ll hear from long-standing couples and casual daters alike. Even if sex is definitely happening, the intimate, caress-filled lead-up has somehow fallen by the wayside on the way to the big act.

But the cuddling that comes before sex, it turns out, is just as important as sex itself. In fact, science has found that initiating physical affection, whether it eventually leads to sex or not, is seriously good for our relationships.

Good news, spooners: A study, first released last year and set to be published in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships in March, looked at 397 cohabiting heterosexual couples to see how initiations of physical intimacy — that is, the physical nudges we use to indicate we’re in the mood — influenced their relationship. This could mean cuddling, kissing, spooning and, hey, even sexy massages.

While past studies have suggested that these initiating moves might be negatively coercive, the latest study found that general attempts at physical intimacy increased relationship satisfaction, relationship stability, better communication and less conflict.

In fact, while both male and female participants experienced positive outcomes of physical intimacy, the relationship benefitted particularly when men made the initiating moves. The initiations of cuddling and touch provided women with reassurance and commitment, said study co-author Chelom Leavitt in a conversation with Mic.

It’s always worth a try: While these types of small physical initiations might get swept under the rug in long-term relationships, frequent contact has a huge impact on relationships. Many couples naturally experience decreased sexual activity as time goes on, but this study suggests even if we think our S.O. might not be in the mood, it’s still important to try. After all, it’s not just about sex — it’s about what the spooning and kissing our partners signifies.

“Initiation communicates a desire to be close, have sex, create interest in the relationship,” explains Leavitt to Mic. “So even when couples don’t have sex, they are strengthening the relationship by communicating desires to be close and committed to the relationship.”

That ability for touch to confirm desire? It’s also evident after sex. A 2014 study in the Archives of Sexual Behavior found that couples who cuddle after sex report more relationship and sexual satisfaction. Why? Physical intimacy, like cuddling, encourages us to pursue more. As co-author Amy Muise told Women’s Health, “Since it makes us feel good, we’re more likely to want to do it again, and we get closer to each other in the process.”

Touch itself can be powerful: Cuddling not only tells your partner you desire them; touch itself has encouraging health benefits. All kinds of physical contact, including hugs, have been shown to reduce stress, curb anxiety/depression and strengthen the immune system.

As previously reported by Mic, when we’re physically close to someone, our bodies release oxytocin, the “happy chemical” that contributes to feelings of intimacy and well being in relationships.

Leavitt reminds us of the true work of cuddling: “Clearly there are people who are wanting more than just physical pleasure out of the experience — they are working to create more meaningful connections.”

So, even if you’re pretty sure there’s no chance you’re getting laid tonight, a back rub or some extra close cuddling couldn’t hurt. Even if you don’t have sex, they’ll get the message.

The police in Lagos have arrested a woman, Esther Bello, for allegedly brutalising her 13-year-old househelp, identified simply as Titi, in the Obanikoro area of Lagos.

Punch Metro gathered that Bello, a trader, allegedly hid the girl in a room and told policemen from the Pedro division, who were alerted by the neighbours, that the maid had travelled to Ikorodu area with a friend.

On Thursday at about 1am, the maid, who was said to be from Cotonou, Benin Repubic, ran out of
the house on Akinsanmi Street, Obanikoro Estate, with a bleeding hand to meet neighbours and explain her plight.

The neighbours, who later saw Bello, inquired why she allegedly cut her maid with a broken dish. Bello was said to have shunned the neighbours, after which the girl returned to the house.

At about 7am, the neighbours went back to the house to check on Titi only to discover that the maid’s injury had not been treated, and had been given more domestic works to do.

The angry neighbours were said to have reported the matter at the Pedro Police Division, which then came to Bello’s house.

Bello told the officers that the maid was no longer with her, and had gone with a friend to Igbogbo area, Ikorodu.

However, after the police returned with a search warrant, they combed the house before the maid was found bleeding in one of the rooms in the house.

Bello was thereafter arrested, while the maid was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Speaking with PUNCH Metro, one of the neighbours, who gave his name as Titus Edgar, said:

“We did not sleep early on Wednesday; we were still outside in a bar in the area till 2am. At about 1.30am, we saw the maid run out of the house, while blood was streaming from her hand.
“We observed that the hand was cut deep in three places, and the girl told us that her boss had threatened to kill her if she raised the alarm. When the woman came later, we asked her what was the matter, but she refused to say anything.
“By morning, some of us went back to the house to check what had become of the girl. When we got to the house, the girl was still bleeding and mopping the floor.
“We felt this was unfair and that was when we went to report to the police. When the police arrived, she told them that the girl had run out and was in Ikorodu. That was when we began to comb her house before discovering the maid.”
Another neighbour, who did not want her name in print, said Bello, who had been in the area for three years, had a housemaid named Maria, who also fled the house last year.

Punch learnt that some officials of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team had gone to the police station, and taken up the welfare of the girl.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor, said he would get back to our correspondent on the matter.

He, however, had yet to get back as of press time.

Any man who can keep his kitchen clean would definitely be loved by his lady. The research carried out by University College London, theLondon School of Economics and The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine found that single women do not suffer the same negative health effects as unmarried men.

Furthermore, middle-aged women who had never married had virtually the same chance of developing metabolic syndrome (a combination of diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity) as married women.

The research was published in The American Journal of Public Health.

According to Dr George Ploubidis, a population health scientist at the UCL Institute of Education, “not marrying or cohabiting is less detrimental among woman than men,”

But the findings didn’t end with being married. The team also found that getting divorced did not have a harmful impact on future health for either men or women as long as they found a new long-term partner.

Furthermore, women who divorced in mid to late 20s had 31% lower odds of metabolic syndrome, compared to those who stayed married.

Ploubidis also added that “numerous studies have found that married people have better health than unmarried people,”

He also said “people who experience separation, divorce and remarriage, have very similar levels of health in middle age to those who are married.”

“Surprisingly, those men who divorced in their late 30s and did not subsequently remarry, were less likely to suffer from conditions related to diabetes in early middle age compared to those who were married.” he said.

The team analysed information on more than 10,000 people born in England, Scotlandand Wales in the same week of spring (between March and June) 1958.
