A disturbing video has emerged that appears to show four women being tortured by a gang of men after being accused of witchcraft. The footage was reportedly taken in a village in Papua New Guinea, a country where violence and murders linked to sorcery are rife. The women were accused of sorcery after a young man fell ill. Villagers claimed the women had ‘invisibly’ taken out the man’s heart. In the video, the women have been stripped naked, tied up, burned and beaten. It also shows them being threatened with machetes while being questioned by the men. The suspects repeatedly deny the allegations, with one woman begging her attackers: ‘My son, stop it!’ A man replies: ‘Talk out, where did you put it? Burn her with the wire.’ Another woman says: ‘I’ve got nothing to do with it,’ says another woman. ‘I am a mother with five children.’ The gang later claimed the women returned the man’s heart after they were tortured, apparently proving their guilt, according to the social media reports. Widow of Charles Bruce Chukwuma, popularly known as Chaz-B, who was an OAP and host of the popular radio show “Sharing Lifes Issues”, has aired her grievances over the death of her husband. Chaz B died November. Chaz-B‘s wife, has pointed accusing fingers to the doctors of the St. Nicholas Hospital in Lagos, saying if they knew their jobs and handled it well, her husband would still be alive. According to Sahara reporters, this was what Chaz-B’s wife had to say; “My husband called me at about 6:40 AM, Friday the 21st of November 2014, from work. He asked me to come and pick him up because he was not feeling too good. I left with the driver to get him. When I got there, he was in obvious discomfort and he asked me to take him home. On our way home, I noticed that he was in severe pain, so I asked the driver to reverse the car and head instead to the hospital (St. Nicholas Hospital in Lagos). On reaching there, we met Judith, the receptionist. I asked if there was a doctor around. This was around 7 PM. She said yes and after some time we were asked to go into Room 2. Right there we met a young doctor called Dr. Ogidigben Kevwe. He asked a few questions that I answered while my husband was wallowing in pains. He (Dr. Kevwe) opened an emergency file because according to him, my husband’s file was locked up in Dr. Bamgboye’s office, and no one had access to that office. I told Dr. Kevwe that my husband had incisional hernia surgery done a few months back – August to be precise – at the same hospital, and it was performed by one Dr. Mohan an Indian man, and Dr. Balogun at St. Nicholas Hospital. He started to examine him. He then left us in his office and said he was coming back. He came back after some minutes and said he was unable to reach Dr. Balogun from the reception, so I dialed Dr. Balogun with my husband’s phone and I and got through. At this point, I gave the phone to Dr. Kevwe, and he began explaining what he thought the problem was to Dr. Balogun. Dr. Balogun asked if my husband was in pains, and Dr. Kevwe said yes. Dr. Kevwe told Dr. Balogun that he suspected intestinal obstruction. Dr. Balogun asked if there was any swelling around where the incision was done, and Dr. Kevwe said no. He then asked if there was any reddish sign around the same area, and Dr. Kevwe said no. Dr. Kevwe suggested giving him antibiotics, but Dr. Balogun said that they had to be careful what they gave him, since he was a post kidney transplant patient. Dr. Balogun instructed them to give him a particular injection twice to ease the pains, and he said that they should observe him till the next morning. So I left to go get him what he had asked for (his tea and his stockings). On my way home around Bonny Camp, I got a call from a strange number and when I answered, it was Dr. Kevwe. He asked me to turn back to come pick my husband up, and I asked why. He (Dr. Kevwe) said that my Husband was feeling much better, and wants to go home. I asked the driver to reverse and head back to the hospital. On getting there, I went in and asked the Dr. again why he wants me to take him home. He repeated once again that he feels much better and I asked Dr. Kevwe if he was asking me to take him home because he thought he felt better or because the hospital did not have a bed for him. I asked this because the nurse had mentioned earlier that she needed to check for bed space. Dr. Kevwe at this point told me that my husband would be fine and he asked me to take him home and bring him the following morning. Meanwhile, before then, Dr. Kewe wrote a prescription of drugs for my husband which I took to the pharmacist and when the lady there saw it, she asked which doctor I saw. I told her that it was Dr. Kevwe. She moved over to the other side and called the doctor’s office. They both argued about the drug that he wrote, and then she gave me just one tablet of Exforge. When my husband got up from the hospital bed, he staggered and I held him and asked if he was fine. The doctor said that it was the injection that was given to him and he would be fine. So I took him home. Just about 15minutes after we got home, my husband said he felt like throwing up. I brought a bowl to him and he vomited, after which he felt a bit better. He slept for some time and then got up in excruciating pain. Immediately I jumped into my clothes and then called Dr. Balogun, to say that we are on our way back to the hospital. He said no problem, that a doctor will be waiting for me. I asked him which doctor and he said the doctor is their senior surgeon by the name Dr. Fadiran. Dr. Balogun said that Dr. Fadiran was the doctor on call. We got to the hospital in less than 20 minutes and my husband came down from the car himself. He walked into the hospital by himself before he was wheeled into the ER. Then came Dr. Kevwe, and I asked him about the senior surgeon. He told me that he would be coming very soon. I wasn’t too happy with that, as I had mentioned to Dr. Balogun that my husband was in serious pains. I expected to see a consultant like he said. Dr. Kevwe attempted to place him on an IV drip and this took forever, as he was unable to successfully find a vein while my husband languished in pain. My husband kept telling them (Dr. Kevwe and the nurse) that he wants to throw up or use the restroom, and he would be fine. He kept saying that if he throws up he will be fine. Meanwhile, Dr. Kevwe was taking instructions on the phone from Dr. Fadiran. This was when I asked when the Dr. would come. I kept asking, “when will the doctor come?” And Dr. Kevwe said Dr. Fadiran asked him to get my entire husband’s information. Dr. Kevwe told me that they are waiting for the Radiologist and the Anesthesiologist, and none of these people showed up. My husband kept on saying that he wants to throw up. But then, Dr. Kevwe asked the nurse to give him an injection, I asked what the injection was for? And he said it will stop him from vomiting. He became so uncomfortable and was losing his breath. They put him on oxygen, but I guess he was already choking. Meanwhile, Kevwe was still taking instructions from Dr. Fadiran on the phone. At this time, he started gasping for air. Meanwhile, before then, another doctor showed up. I don’t know his name, but he’s average in height and dark complexioned. He inserted a suction tube into his mouth, but I guess he was two hours or more late with that. Because if that was done when I brought him to the hospital that morning, he would have been here with me today. If Dr. Fadiran were at the hospital, even after he was told that it was an emergency; my husband would have been here with me. If the anesthesiologist was at the hospital, he probably would have been here with me. If the radiologist were around on that morning to at least see what was happening inside of him, he probably would have been here with me. If Dr. Kevwe knew exactly what he was doing that morning without taking instructions from Dr. Fadiran on the phone, with an emergency case right in front of him, my husband would have been here. My husband died of total negligence on the part of St. Nicholas Hospital, and I know it. As I mentioned earlier, the doctor was 2 hours plus late with the suction, because, at this time, the nurse was already calling my husband’s name, shouting “Mr. Charles, Mr. Charles!” He was given four adrenaline injections. The drip wasn’t going at all, all this while lest I forget. I watched my husband struggled to breath. I watched him fight for his life, and I was right there when he died. Even though they were busy with CPR, I knew when he passed on because immediately he stopped struggling, fluid started gushing out of his mouth and nose. I knew that was it. That was the same fluid that was choking him. If there were a senior consultant or surgeon at the hospital as at when I brought him, he probably, would have been helped. In between all this, Dr. Kevwe at a time said to Dr. Fadiran on the phone that he should come now as the patient is in a critical condition. He said to the same Dr. Fadiran that 11 O’clock might be too late. I brought my husband at about 6 AM to St. Nicholas Hospital and he died at about 9.30AM without receiving prompt and adequate care. Human life cannot continue to be lost so cheaply in Nigerian hospitals. People must be made to account for their actions as professionals, hence I have contacted my Lawyers to investigate the cause of death. After dedicating some volume of thoughts to private school teaching job, I found out that such job is not worth doing for any graduate. It is no news that getting a good job as a fresh Nigerian graduate is a difficult task, due to the fact that the available lucrative jobs are not sufficient for the number of graduates in the country. As a result of this you may resort to taking up a private school teaching job to keep yourself busy while waiting for that dream job. You may also tell yourself that you can’t afford to be sitting at home doing nothing, and decides to give private school teaching a try. It is a good idea to keep yourself busy and probably make some money to meet some of your needs why searching for that job, but taking up a private school teaching job is not an option. There are more rewarding jobs you can involve in that will offer your better financial reward than what a private school can offer. Without much ado, let me go straight to my points. Poor salary: The salary paid by these mushroom private schools is too poor for your level of education and too small to meet your needs. Most of the schools pay you salary not based on what you are worth, but on what they can afford to pay. I remembered one of those schools offered to pay a friend 9,000 naira per month. Most of these schools cannot afford to pay more than 20,000 to university graduates and only very few of them can afford to pay such amount. You may say what about those international schools that pay as high as 100k-200k per month? It will shock you that schools of that type does not constitute more than 2% of the private schools will have in Nigeria. So how many graduates can they employ? This article focuses mainly on the remaining 98% of private schools whose owners are after nothing but profit making, I called them mushroom schools. But think about it, is it 10k, 15k, or 20k you are worth based on your level of education? Are you pleased with doing such job? If you can’t provide a yes answer to any of these questions it is high time you quit that job. Too much of work: In order for these private schools owners to maximize their profit, they prefer to recruit few teachers and load them with tedious work that would have been effectively carried out if more teachers are involved. If you teach in any of these schools, the minimum numbers of subjects you will be taking will be between 4-8 subjects. For example if you are science oriented, you will likely be given math, physics, chemistry, biology, integrated science, basic technology agricultural science to teach, if the school owner is considerate he may eliminate one or two. It doesn’t end at taking these subjects; the number of classes you will be taking is another issue. For example of you are taking basic science, you may have to take it for jss1-3 class. Imagine where about 5 to 8 subjects are involved, then you will know you are in for a serious business. It doesn’t end at that, these schools even with the loads of subjects you are taking will make the writing of lesson notes compulsory and must be submitted a week ahead. Writing a lesson note is a necessity for all teachers, but it would have been easier if too many subjects are not involved. Imagine a situation whereby you are taking five subjects, and many classes are involved, you will have to spend every bit of your spare time writing lesson note. And you call this work? As far as I am concern it is modern slavery. Lack of opportunity for advancement: When you work for some organizations, a time comes when you will be promoted and have your salary increased. So when you work in this type of organization you have something to look forward to. The reward ahead will help to soot the pains of the job. However, working in a private school has no future. All you are doing is helping the school owners to build their empire after which you can be discarded at any time just like a tissue paper used to wipe the anus. If the school owner is so magnanimous to increase your pay, there is no way you can be earning 15,000 and have your pay raised to 50,000. The best they can do is to add a maximum of 5000 to what you were offered as at the time of entering the job, so what difference does that make? Too many expenses: In addition to the poor salary offered by these schools, the money you expend working for them is a huge amount. You may want to know how. As a teacher you will be expected to look good at all times. This means your clothes must be properly washed and pressed with iron on regular basis. And if you are the type that like showing off, you will have to go for more wears so as to avoid wearing same cloth repeatedly within the week. If your clothes must be neat always, it means you have to wash your cloth regularly. The more you wash, the more the cloth fades, and when your clothes fades you will be forced to buy new ones. Clothes that could last for two years will fade within few months when you wear them consistently. Furthermore, looking good demands good shoes. The same fate that befalls your clothes when you used them on regular basis is applicable to your shoes. If you are a lady, you wouldn’t afford to leave your hair unkempt. To elevate your look you will need to make your hair regularly, doing so also requires cash. What about your daily transport expenses? If you spend 200 hundred naira for transport every day, multiply it by the number of days you go to work in a week and subtract it from your salary, then you will know how much your are spending on transportation alone. What about feeding during schools hours? Teaching involves talking and the more you talk, the more you lose energy, to regain energy, eating good food is a necessity. You will definitely spend a lot of money on food during school hour. By the time you deduct all these expenses from your salary at the end of the month then you will find out that your take home cannot take you home. So what are you working for? Don’t you think you are wasting your time? Salary irregularities: Even as ridiculous as the salary is, many of the proprietors don’t pay on time and even when they do they don’t pay in full. For example during the last month of a term, while the school is going on vacation, a teacher earning 15k per month may be paid 10k at the end of the term and be told that the balance will be received when the school resumes. I wonder why this is a common practice among these schools, I guess it is their own tactics of making teachers to come back. This may surprise you, but that is what most of the schools practice. A reckless waste of your precious time: If you don’t want to consider any of the above reasons, the fact that taking a private school teaching job is a reckless waste of time is a good reason to consider. It was Benjamin Franklin who said, “he who love life should not waste time , for that is the stuff that life is made of.’’ If you agree with this truth, then you will choose something more rewarding than teaching in one of these private schools. You may want to know how it is a waste of your time. Working in place where you have no hope of a better life for working for such organization is not worth your time. When you leave the school, you are starting all over again. If you are well paid that would have been a reason to consider it , but in a situation where the salary is not even enough to meet your needs, then at the end of the day you will see that you have nothing to show for all your years of work. It is a pity that many have been victims of this, and they are seriously regretting it. Lack of appreciation: Sometimes when you are appreciated for your efforts that alone will soot the pains of your labour and underemployment. But for most of these schools, that is not the case. Few of the school owners are humane and show genuine appreciation for the efforts their staffs are putting into the advancement of their respective schools. The truth is most of the school owners doesn’t show appreciation and are full of pride. They lack understanding and talk to you anyhow over every little mistake. Some will even go as far as being proud of the salary you are earning from them. It is always out of their mind that you are over-worked and under-paid. Frustration: There is no way you won’t be frustrated working for these mushroom private schools when you consider how much efforts you put into getting your degree and your dream of a fantastic job after graduation, only to find yourself in a job that offers you less than 20k at the end of the month. As you go to work on daily basis, pondering on the disadvantages written above will start to make you to feel depressed. The Paris-based Web site reports that the teenager told reporters that he was “extremely delighted” to meet Bashir and hoped to return to visit the Sudanese president again “with a new invention and success.” At first glance, perhaps Ahmed’s journey to Bashir’s presidential compound isn’t so strange. The teenager has met with a variety of big names over the past few weeks. Besides, his family are Sudanese immigrants: On his Twitter account, Ahmed posted a number of images that described his visit to Sudan as a type of homecoming: However, Bashir is no ordinary world leader. He has an outstanding arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court, for example, for allegedly orchestrating genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in Darfur. The country he leads is under a variety of U.S. sanctions. His government harbored Osama bin Laden for five years in the 1990s. A leaked U.S. diplomatic cable published by WikiLeaks even suggested he may have secretly stolen $9 billion in oil money. To make it even more remarkable, Ahmed’s father, Mohamed El Hassan Mohamed, has campaigned against Bashir in not one but two presidential elections. After he was blocked from appearing on the ballot in 2010, El Hassan complained that Bashir had personally blocked his name from the ballot. “I was told that Bashir personally intervened with the [appeals] court to reject my challenge,” El Hassan reportedly told the Sudan Tribune. El Hassan ran for election again this past February, proposing an improvement in relations with the United States and promising to deal with religious extremism. In an interview with the Daily Mail last month, El Hassan’s elder brother Aldean criticized Bashir and said the elections were not fair. “The government said Mohamed came fourth in 2015 but the elections are rigged, the whole international community know that,” Aldean said. “Al-Bashir steals all the votes.” There appeared to be little sign of this animosity on Wednesday. Mr Wardle has been with his current girlfriend, 24-year-old Fedra Fabian from Hungary, for three years. He kept his secret from her by pretending he had a microchip in his kidney to fight off infections. She only found out the truth when he was interviewed by a TV talk show. In the documentary, the couple talk frankly of how they considered splitting up over the problem.
