http://www.mercyogbebor.com/2015/05/end-of-romance-paris-bans-lovelocks-to.html Sorry romantic lovers heading to Paris, the Love Lock Tradition is about to be wiped out. The city of Paris has decided that to end the tradition of tourists coming over and dumping bits of metal all over its bridges, starting from Monday, the padlocks will be removed from the Pont Des Arts & plexiglass panels will soon replace the grills. The Pont Des Arts has been the most popular bridge with up to 1 million locks thought to be attached to the railings. The City has however had enough. According to the council in charge, the locks are causing ‘a lasting degradation of the heritage of Paris and also a risk to the safety of visitors. This is somehow Justifiable because a part of the 'Pont Des Arts' collapsed sometime ago due to the weight of metals attached in the name of love.

In the midst of Chris Brown’s latest feud with Tyson Beckford, the ‘Loyal’ singer is reportedly at odds with Nia Amey over child support for Royalty! Nia wants more money, but Chris doesn’t want to pay her outrageous amounts of cash. Here’s the scoop! Chris Brown’s life is complicated right now. The 26-year-old singer is at war with Royalty’s mother, Nia Amey, over child support payments, Nia called Chris a cheap dead beat dad on live TV according to a new report. Chris reportedly stopped handing over his set child support payment to Nia after she started demanding more money! Chris also tagged his baby mama a gold digger trying to fleece him with an opportunistic baby. The parents of little Royalty have very different views on what’s adequate child support. Multiple sources connected with the couple tell TMZ, Chris has been paying baby Royalty’s mom, Nia Guzman, the N500k, but the gravy train stopped in March. Our Chris sources say he stopped paying because Nia demanded N3M a month, which he thinks is ridiculous. We’re told Chris says Nia’s treating the baby like a winning lottery ticket, but she claims he’s being incredibly cheap and their daughter is suffering as a result. We’re told Nia’s lawyer, Carl Moore, will be filing legal docs in the next 2 weeks demanding back child support and a huge monthly hike. We’re hearing rumblings of settlement. http://sabi9ja..com/2015/05/hehehe-chris-brown-and-his-only-baby.html

Osaze Odemwingie says he feels honoured to be playing a part in a momentous era in Stoke City’s history, Stoke Sentinel reports. The popular winger has returned from long-term injury in the nick of time to make a series of late-season cameos to help Stoke break several club records. Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Burnley sealed ninth spot for a second successive season and nudged Stoke past 50 points for the first time in the Premier League. “The most important thing is always the group,” said Odemwingie, “and I’m very happy I could make it back and that the gaffer welcomed me back. “Two seasons with back-to-back top-10 finishes is fantastic. The players have achieved what nobody has achieved and those are the things you want to hear. “We are very happy and we are congratulating each other. “It’s great that I’m able to make a minor contribution to a time which we as players will never forget, when we are helping to lay foundations for the club. “This is probably my last few years in football and this is something I will take into my retirement. “This is a memorable time for the team. They are not just getting results, but also pleasing supporters with top-class football that gets them excited. “Hopefully one day, when Stoke City go to Europe and win cups, they will not forget us.” More immediately, meanwhile, Odemwingie would love to round off his injury-ravaged season with a first goal in Sunday’s final home game against Liverpool (3pm). “I still wish that comes this season,” he hoped.”If not, it’s my first season without a goal since I was five years old!” Odemwingie, sidelined in late August with a cruciate knee ligament injury, has now stacked up more than an hour’s playing time after his fourth appearance from the substitutes’ bench at Burnley last Saturday came as early as the 59th minute. “For me, the season is just starting,” the Nigerian international reasoned, “and I wish it was September. “I won’t have a proper summer because I have to keep on top of my health, keep working hard and keep training because I have missed so many months. “It will take time to get back to my best again, but I feel all right. “The speed is there, but the endurance is not as good. “But that will come in time and I have hinted to the gaffer to give me more time on the pitch.” http://sabi9ja..com/2015/05/snb-sports-osaze-odemwingie-thrilled-to.html

A computer science and information technology graduate from a university in Cotonou, Anidi Reginald, has landed in police net for car snatching in Enugu. Anidi, 27 years old, is said to have graduated from the university in 2013. The suspect, from Enugwu Eke in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, was arrested by officers of the Ogui Division after he and members of his gang snatched a Honda Pilot car, with registration number AAA 598 CH, from the owner at gunpoint. The incident occurred at Ozalla, in Nkanu West Local Government Area of the state on Saturday, by 11.00am. It was gathered that the suspect and members of his gang, who are currently at large, had, after snatching the vehicle from the owner, headed towards Enugu metropolis. But, unknown to them, the victim had already alerted the police, who chased the vehicle down to Presidential Road, where a gun battle ensued between the policemen and the gang. Anidi was eventually apprehended, while other members of the gang escaped, after the police overpowered the hoodlums in the gun battle. The Public Relations Officer of the Enugu State Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the development, said an automatic pump action gun, one cut-to-size English-made single barrel gun, and cartridges were recovered from Anidi. Amaraizu said the suspect was currently helping the police in an ongoing investigation into the activities of the gang. The police spokesman further disclosed that the vehicle had been returned to the owner. The suspect reportedly blamed his action on peer influence and unemployment. http://sabi9ja..com/2015/05/busted-police-arrest-graduate-for-car_20.html#sthash.9nArmfx8.dpuf

Mr. Orubebe, has denied media reports that he was leaving the Peoples Democratic Party to join “his folks” in the All Progressives Congress. Orubebe said in a telephone conversation with Punch that he was “a proud and committed member” of the PDP, who is with the President in his bid to reorganize the party. He said those behind the fictitious report hacked into his twitter account. The former Minister also threatened to drag online media houses and bloggers, who published the story of his alleged defection to the APC without contacting him, before the court. He said, “It is not true that I am leaving the PDP for APC; it is not true and it cannot be true. I am taking online media, who have published the story to court. “I am a core PDP member. http://sabi9ja..com/2015/05/i-was-flown-out-for-surgery-during.html Wife of the President, Patience Jonathan, on Sunday disclosed that she battled with another round of ill-health during the re-election campaigns of her husband, President Goodluck Jonathan. Mrs Jonathan, who was flown abroad about two years ago on health grounds, said the latest was so severe that she had to be sneaked out of the country to Germany in January for a major surgery. She spoke during a farewell service in honour of the Jonathan family at the Aso Villa Chapel. The President’s wife said before she left the German hospital after the operation, she was billed for another in a bigger hospital immediately after the elections but that God miraculously healed her. She said after her husband lost his re-election bid, she returned to Germany for the surgery. According to her, she was about to be taken into the theatre when doctors decided to carry out another round of checks on her. Like her previous health challenge about two years ago, Mrs. Jonathan did not disclose the nature of the last ailment. She said, “During the last campaign period, the devil struck again. I was in pain and was rushed to the hospital in January and the doctors told me, ‘mama, you have to go for a major operation now now.’ “What again? I asked. The campaign was still going on and I wondered how we were going to explain to Nigerians. “You know that even when you go for medical check-up, they will be writing in newspapers, saying all sorts of things. “I said my husband will continue with his campaign until the last day. That was how I went in for the first major operation (surgery) in the end of January. “By God’s grace, I went for the operation (surgery) and came out. On my return from there, I went straight to the campaign ground. “They said to me when I was leaving the hospital: ‘mama, there is another bigger operation that you have to go in for again. This one will not be in this hospital. This hospital is too small for the type of operation you need when you come back. You have to go to a bigger hospital.’ “I said ‘ha! while will you tear my body again after I had done 12 operations within one month last year? “I said my God will see me through because he created me for a purpose. I told my prayer partner to continue praying for me. I said to myself that I will never be used for a sacrifice. “I was booked for the operation in a bigger hospital and I was asked to go back to Nigeria and return after the campaign. They gave me a date. When I went back, I paid for everything and just when I was to be taken into the theatre, the doctors said, ‘let’s check her again.’ “By then, my husband had lost the election. I had packed out of the Villa. Behold! I went to four hospitals again and the thing was said to have vanished. My doctors were surprised; they didn’t believe that that could happen.” Mrs. Jonathan recalled that many people thought it had ended for her when she went through 12 surgeries about two years ago. She said although she was “dead,” God sent her back to complete her work. But the President’s wife added that her husband’s electoral loss was an indication to her that she had completed the work given her by God. She said, “I thank God for keeping me alive today. God is so wonderful. Just two years ago, I went through operations upon operations. Within one month, I passed through 12 operations. “Some people said I was dead, yes, I was dead but God resurrected me. “God told me, ‘my daughter, go back, I will give you a second chance, go and finish your work.’ “And since my husband lost the election, I believe God has made me to finish the work.” Mrs. Jonathan said she would forever remain thankful to God because many people had prophesied that either her or the President would not leave the Presidential Villa alive. She recalled that that was what happened in the case of Mrs. Stella Obasanjo, wife of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who died while her husband was still in office. She said it was gladdening that she and her husband would be leaving the Villa on May 29 hale and hearty. Mrs. Jonathan said she would continue to thank God for His mercies because she never dreamt of becoming a wife of a deputy governor much less of a President’s wife. She said, “I never thought in my life that I will be First Lady. I never dreamt of being the wife of a deputy governor because my husband was not a politician. But God made it possible and God lifted us up from deputy governorship position and here we are. “We should be grateful to God for what he has done. To me and my family, we praise God. “To our followers, today, it might not be too good but I want them to be grateful to God because they have followed us for a long time from deputy governor, governor, Vice President to President. “You know that no position is for a life- time. There is no permanent thing so I want you to take it in good faith that it is the will of God. You should be praising God. God is really wonderful.” Mrs. Jonathan disclosed that some unnamed persons had been visiting her since the March 28 presidential election with the hope that they would meet her in a mourning mood. Thereafter, Mrs. Jonathan danced forward for a special thanksgiving to God for sparing her life throughout their stay in the Villa despite her sickness. http://sabi9ja..com/2015/05/i-was-flown-out-for-surgery-during.html

http://sabi9ja..com/2015/05/again-nnpc-fails-to-remit-148bn-into.html The Federation Accounts Allocation Committee on Friday raised the alarm that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has yet to remit $1.48bn into the Federation Account as directed by PriceWaterHouse Coopers in its forensic audit of the corporation. PriceWaterHouse Coopers was last year hired to carry out the exercise following an allegation by the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Lamido Sanusi, that $20bn was not remitted to the Federation Account by the NNPC. Sanusi, who is now the Emir of Kano, had written a letter to President Goodluck Jonathan that $49bn was not remitted to the Federation Account by the NNPC. But following the controversy which the letter generated, a committee was set up to reconcile the account. Sanusi later recanted and said the unremitted fund was $12bn. He later again changed the figure to $20bn. PwC, in the report, had stated that while the total gross revenues generated from crude oil lifting was $69.34bn between January 2012 and July 2013 and not $67bn as earlier stated by the Senate Reconciliation Committee, what was remitted to the Federation Account was $50.81bn and not $47bn. Of the $69.34bn, the audit report revealed that $28.22bn was the value of domestic crude oil allocated to NNPC, adding that the total amount spent on subsidy for Premium Motor Spirit amounted to $5.32bn. FAAC had at its last meeting constituted a committee to find out the reasons for the delay in making the funds available to the three tiers of government. Barely had the committee swung into action than the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, stated that the NNPC had begun refunding the $1.48bn into the federation account as recommended by the audit firm. She said, “The PriceWaterHouse Coopers forensic audit that was done a few weeks ago, in its recommendation, mentioned that $1.48bn was owed by NPDC for a block that had hitherto been assigned from the NNPC to NPDC, which is its subsidiary. “They felt that the right process would be that NPDC will refund that money to the Federation Account. NPDC has apparently started those refunds and it is also in discussion with NNPC and DPR on same. So the refund has actually begun.” But the Chairman, Forum of Finance Commissioners of FAAC, Mr. Timothy Odaah, while speaking on the matter during an interview with journalists after this month’s allocation committee meeting, insisted that no amount had been transferred to the account. He said, “The most important thing is for the public to know that we campaign and demanded for it because it is the money meant for the states and the federal government as well as the local governments. “Entirely, it is the nation and Mr. President has directed that the money be paid to the federation account including the minister of petroleum but it is important to know that we have not seen anything.” Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Finance, Mr. Bashir Yuguda, on Friday said that N388bn was shared among the federal, states and local governments as statutory allocation for the month of April, 2015. Yuguda announced this in Abuja when he addressed newsmen on the outcome of the end of this month’s FAAC meeting. He said, “The total revenue distributable for the month of April, including VAT of N75.1bn, is N388bn.” Giving the breakdown of revenue among the three tiers of government, Yuguda said the Federal Government received N132.1bn, representing 52.68 per cent; while the 36 states got N67bn, representing 26.72 per cent. The local governments, he said, received N51.6bn, amounting to 20.60 per cent of the amount distributed. He announced that N23.1bn representing 13 per cent derivation revenue was shared among the oil producing states. On the constant lower revenue shared in the past months to, the minister said “frequent shut down and shut-in-trucks and pipelines at terminals continued to impact negatively on crude oil revenue.” The minister advised the incoming administration to focus on the diversification of the economy, good governance and blocking of all revenue leakages to attain optimum service delivery. http://sabi9ja..com/2015/05/again-nnpc-fails-to-remit-148bn-into.html

Man who married his childhood sweetheart after being diagnosed with terminal cancer sparks touching social media campaign urging people to make the most out of life http://sabi9ja..com/2015/05/man-who-married-his-childhood.html Just the beginning: Shalin asked Frances to go to Homecoming with him by making her a bouquet of paper flowers. The attended posed for this photo at the dance in 2009 A 22-year-old man with terminal cancer is spending his last days on earth inspiring others to appreciate the gift of life, after marrying his high school sweetheart last month despite his diagnosis. Shalin Shah, from San Diego, California, shared his poignant message and reflected on his experience in a powerful letter published by the Huffington Post. He wrote of living his life to the fullest after he was diagnosed with stage IV synovial sarcoma, and, on April 24, the recent college graduate married Frances Chen, the love of his life. A few weeks later, doctors have given him only days to live. And while Shalin continues to fight for his life, he wanted to thank those who have been touched by his words. 'Thank you so much for the support. I really hope that you have been genuinely inspired and that I have helped you appreciate life more,' he told Daily Mail Online. 'That means the world to me. If I can say that I have done that for others, I would be so proud of myself.' True love: Shalin Shah (R), from San Diego, California, married his high school sweetheart Frances Chen (L) nearly three months after he was told his rare and aggressive form of cancer was terminal Special bond: The 22-year-old, who can be seen kissing his new wife, was diagnosed with stage IV synovial sarcoma last August after he fell extremely ill during his Peace Corps training in Peru Shalin’s new wife Frances added that her husband, who she has known she they were teenagers, has always been passionate about helping others, noting that he was constantly fundraising for different fundraisers and figuring out how to best serve people as a student at the University of Southern California. 'He's never been interested in a corporate nine-to-five job,' she said, explaining that it was no surprise to her when he decided to join the Peace Corps after graduating from college. Shalin was training for high Peace Corps service in Peru last August when he started to feel ill but it wasn’t until he underwent a CT scan that he discovered that his cough, difficulty breathing and pain in his rib all stemmed from a six inch mass in his chest. After returning to the US, he was diagnosed with stage IV synovial sarcoma, an extremely rare and aggressive form of cancer. On February 5, he was told that he only had six to nine months to live. All smiles: Shalin walked down the aisle with his new wife as their family and friends celebrated their marriage Perfect day: Frances, who can be seen walking down the aisle with her father, said their wedding wasn't a 'sad event at all'. Instead, it was a celebration of life. Although the news left him sobbing uncontrollably, he recalled in his letter how an 'overwhelming calm' had swept over him. He would no longer have to worry if he was going to live or die. His question was already answered. 'Now I just had to focus on living out the rest of my life to the fullest and put all of my energy on having an awesome time enjoying the best of what life has to offer while leaving behind a positive footprint and legacy,' he wrote. Last month, Peace Corps Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet traveled to California to visit Shalin after hearing his inspiring story to swear him in as a Peace Corps volunteer. Shalin was touched and humbled by the unexpected gesture. Full of love: Shalin smiled while reading the words he had written to Frances 'It was an honor for me,' he added to Daily Mail Online. 'They went above and beyond their protocol to accommodate me, It was really cool.' And while a terminal illness undoubtedly has the potential to pull any young couple apart, in Shalin's case it has only helped to bring him and Frances that much closer to one another. 'We had to go through a lot together,' Frances explained. 'It really allowed us to appreciate every single moment together.' Frances admitted that she was shocked when she first found out about Shalin being diagnosed with cancer, but she explained that, for her, the most important thing was to be there for him, 'making sure he had a really strong support system'. Hand in hand: Frances and Shalin couldn't take their eyes off each other during their first dance Frances recalled asking him what he was doing because it was unsafe for him to be kneeling. After he pulled out a ring and she said yes, their friends wasted no time in capturing the moment on camera. 'It was such a perfect moment, such a perfect day,' she said. And their wedding day was just as special. Frances said one of her favorite moments was celebrating their love with their family and friends. 'It wasn't a sad event of all. It was just full of love,' she said of her April 24 nuptials. Party time: The newlyweds had a great time dancing with their family and friends at their wedding reception Support system: The newlyweds struck a pose with their friends after their wedding ceremony Together, Shalin and Frances have been busy celebrating the time he has left, ensuring that they are taking advantage of every moment they have to spend together. When Frances was unable to get tickets to Coachella, one of the experiences on Shalin's bucket list, she wrote a letter to the organisers explaining his situation. Not only were they given VIP passes, Shalin was also able to meet his idol, Usher. 'I can't even describe to you how awesome it was meeting him in person,' Shalin said. 'He is seriously my idol. It was a dream come true.' Another one of Shalin's dreams was making Frances his wife. The two were enjoying a day at the beach with a couple of their friends when they headed to a balcony watch the sunset. Shalin, who was in a wheelchair at the time, stood up saying that he wanted to take a picture. But instead he got down on one knee. Celebration of love: Shalin and Frances can be see sharing a toast at their reception Best friends: Frances and Shalin took a selfie in Scotland during one of their many travel adventures Shalin and Frances even had a pinata at their wedding, which they broke after they said their vows because they 'wanted to get the party started'. 'Getting married [and] being able to celebrate our love with our family and friends all together, it was wonderful,' Frances said. The two started dating during their senior year of high school, and even at such a young age, Shalin was a romantic; he even asked Frances to homecoming with a bouquet of paper flowers. Frances added that, when it came time to decide on what colleges to attend, they vowed not to let their relationship prevent the other from going to their dream school, but as fate would have it USC ended up being the perfect fit for both of them. Special occasion: Frances and Shalin went to their senior prom together in 2010 Good times: Shalin and Frances laughed while taking this selfie During college, they both traveled abroad, both together and independently. Frances went to Vienna the semester before Shalin left for Paris. But even though they were apart for much of the year, they were able to travel to Eastern Europe, London, and Scotland together in addition to the time the spent visiting each other in Vienna and Paris. Indeed, for Shalin, the most romantic gifts he has given Frances have been travel oriented. 'We really love traveling together,' he said. 'We spend most of our money and time traveling.' According to Frances, Shalin has always had the ability to turn anything or any situation into something romantic, thanks to his insatiable thirst for all that life has to offer. 'He loves to make little crafts,' she explained, 'He puts his heart and soul into everything he does.' Overcoming obstacles: Frances (L) visited Shalin (R) after he was evacuated from Peru and rushed to the UCLA hospital. Shalin spent more than a month in the hospital after he was first diagnosed with cancer Worldly travelers: The couple smiled for the camera while posing for a photo in Prague http://sabi9ja..com/2015/05/man-who-married-his-childhood.html

Compensation claim made in America after the television on a United Airlines flight works for just ten minutes A woman whose in-flight entertainment cut out during her flight is trying to sue United Airlines for $5million (£3.25million) in compensation. Cary David was only able to watch ten minutes of television on her flight from Puerto Rico to the US after she found she was unable to tune in to the four hours of viewing that she had paid for. Her anger might be familiar to other fliers who have sat halfway through a film on a flight only to have their screen go blank, or to lose the sound in one earphone. Mrs David had paid an extra charge for her in-flight entertainment, via a pay-by-the-minute service called DirecTV entertainment. She paid $7.99 (or £5.20) to watch the in-flight programmes in 2012 but has recently made a legal claim for the money in a federal court in Newark, on behalf of herself and her fellow passengers. United Airlines has dismissed the claims. It said that details on the service’s limitations are available for all passengers to read before they purchase viewing time. In particular, it makes clear that television and Wi-Fi is not available when travelling outside the US. A spokesperson for United Airlines told the MailOnline: ‘We believe this suit is without merit both factually and legally. “On our DirecTV-equipped planes, we clearly inform our passengers in writing on the screen before they confirm their purchase that Live DirecTV programming is not available while the aircraft is outside of the continental United States’ and that Wi-Fi service is available over the continental US.” http://sabi9ja..com/2015/05/woman-allegedly-sues-airline-after-in.html

Woman begged for life as ex beat and doused her in lighter fluid after she refused marriage proposal (Photos) http://sabi9ja..com/2015/05/woman-begged-for-life-as-ex-beat-and.html Horrific: Helen Byrom has spoken out for the first time after her ex-boyfriend attacked her for refusing to marry him A woman has told how she was forced to beg for her life as her ex-boyfriend beat her up, strangled her, doused her in lighter fluid as he whispered he was going to burn her – because she rejected his marriage proposal. Helen Byrom has bravely spoken for the first time after her ex Vincent Bowen beat her so badly police officers thought her blonde, blood-soaked hair was dyed red. Despite being convicted of grievous bodily harm he was jailed for just 28 months of which he will serve only half. “It’s sickening,” Miss Byrom said. “I was horribly injured and he will be out in October – free to walk the streets. “When he attacked me he was like a wild animal. “He got a short sentence but I’ve been left with a life sentence.” Terrified: Miss Byrom thought she was going to die when Bowen threatened to burn her Miss Byrom, a team manager for a local authority, had been dating Bowen for three years when she broke up with him in September 2013. He moved out of her home in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, but a month later returned and proposed to her. Miss Byrom rejected his proposal, but felt sorry for him and said he could live in her house as a lodger. She then started another relationship, but her and unemployed Bowen remained good friends. Only on August 2, 2014, Bowen came home drunk and launched into a vicious attack. After punching Miss Byrom multiple times in the face, he strangled her then doused her in lighter fluid and whispered, ‘I’m going to burn you.’ Miss Byrom begged for her life while Bowen said, ‘this is what you have driven me to.’ As Bowen reached for a lighter, Miss Byrom ran out her house and sought comfort at her neighbour’s house. On holiday: Miss Byrom paid to take Bowen on holiday twice a year She was taken to the accident and emergency department at Dewsbury Hospital and was left needing six stitches and counselling. Three hours after the incident Bowen turned himself in, and on October 18, 2014, he appeared at Leeds Crown Court. Bowen, now 54, of Dewsbury, pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent to cause serious harm and jailed for 28 months. Now Miss Byrom is determined to raise awareness about domestic violence, and is urging other victims to seek help. Miss Byrom, from Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, says: “Whenever I think of that night I shudder in horror. He was like a wild animal. “It’s the age-old story, at first he treated me like a princess. We met on the plane when we were both coming back from a holiday in Gambia. We were sat next to each other. “He was charming and funny, and we spent the whole five-and-a-half hour flight laughing away. I was thrilled when he asked for my number. “The next day he called me, one thing led to another, and a week later he drove to mine from Leamington Spa to surprise me. “I thought it was so romantic, I was smitten from the off.” Only others were not as supportive of their relationship. Miss Byrom’s sister Ruth, disliked Bowen from the start. Miss Byrom admitted: “My sister just said there was something off about him, but I didn’t see it. “I’d fallen for him, I thought we’d be together forever. Before: Miss Byrom before the attack “That’s why I overlooked certain things. For example, I always paid for everything. “He lived at mine rent free. I bought all the food, paid the bills and even paid for us to go on holiday twice a year. “I did tell him to look for a job, and he told me he was, but looking back I don’t know if that’s true.” In September 2013, when the couple were on holiday together in Turkey, Miss Byrom decided to end the relationship. She says: “I knew things had to come to an end, I felt like he was taking advantage of me. “So as soon as we were back home I told him it was over, that he needed to move out. He was still there at Christmas, so then I was really firm. “In January he moved out, but a month later he came round armed with a wedding ring. I thought he must be joking, it was surreal. “I told him that we weren’t even together, so why would I marry him? But on some level I felt sorry for him. “He promised he’d changed, so I said he could move back in as a lodger. For a while everything was okay. He was on housing benefits and paid his way. “But as soon as I started dating someone else he started getting jealous, making sly comments. “After that I was sure not to rub it in face, and never invited the guy back to my house.” But despite this, Bowen wouldn’t let it lie, and on the night of August 2, 2014, he returned home after an evening of drinking. Miss Byrom explained: “He was drunk and was saying that I was disrespectful being with another man. “The suddenly he launched at me, pummelling me with his fists. I couldn’t believe it. “Then he poured this liquid over me, told me I was going to burn. It was then I was convinced I was going to be burnt to death. “Thankfully when he was reaching for his lighter I managed to get away and run to my neighbours. “They couldn’t believe the state of me. My face was bloody, puffy and bruised. I was unrecognisable. “I called the police, and he turned himself in three hours later. My friend took me to hospital, I was in a daze. “He got sentenced to 28 months, but he’s left me with a life sentence. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to trust a man again. “But I won’t let that monster win. I’m stronger than that.” http://sabi9ja..com/2015/05/woman-begged-for-life-as-ex-beat-and.html

President Goodluck Jonathan has given an insight into the fate that awaits him and his ministers after May 29, saying he believes they will be persecuted. He stated on Sunday during a thanksgiving and farewell service organised in his honour at the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Life Camp, Gwarinpa, Abuja that the persecution would happen because of the “ hard decisions” his administration took while in office. Jonathan told the congregation that he understood clearly that “ hard decisions” had their own cost and was therefore ready to pay any price for them He said that experience had shown him that people would at a time desert anybody who took “hard decisions” like he did while in office. Jonathan added that he had always believed that more of his friends would desert him after May 29. The President recalled the story of the last ruler of apartheid South Africa, Frederik de Klerk, who was divorced by his wife for accepting to abolish minority rule in the country, and said jokingly that he hoped his wife, Patience, would not also divorce him after the end of his tenure on May 29. Beaming with smiles, Mrs. Jonathan, who on March 16 declared that she was not ready to feed her husband in prison, replied with a shout of “Nooooo.” Her response was greeted with a loud applause by congregation members. The President said, “I believe there are reasons for everything. Some hard decisions have their own cost; and there is no doubt about that. “That I have run the government this way that stabilised certain things, the electoral process and other things that brought stability to this country. They are very costly decisions which I must be ready to pay for. “Some people come to me and say this or that person, is he not your friend that benefitted? Is it not your government that this person benefitted from? But this is what the person is saying. “But I used to say that worse statements will come. If you take certain decisions, you should know that those close to you will even abandon you at some point. “And I tell them that more of my so-called friends will disappear. When de Klerk took the decision to abolish minority rule in South Africa, even his wife divorced him. I hope my wife will not divorce me. But that is the only decision that has made South Africa to be a global player now. If they still have minority rule, by this time, nobody will be talking about them. “If you take certain decisions, it might be good for many but it might affect others differently. So, for ministers and aides who served with me, I sympathise with them because they will be persecuted. They must be ready for persecution. “Quoting Tai Solarin, may your ways be rough, I say to my ministers, I wish you what I wish myself. They will have hard times, we will all have hard times. Our ways will be rough.” Jonathan however said he was happy that ordinary Nigerians appreciated what he did and that, according to him, is most important. He said it was not what the elite talk about or say about his administration that mattered to him but what the majority of the Nigerians felt about his actions and inactions. The President expressed delight that he came to Abuja with his family peacefully and was leaving peacefully. Jonathan also looked back at all the benefits that had came his way as a Nigerian, saying he was ready to pay the supreme price for the nation. He said considering what God had done in his life, he wished he could dance like the biblical King David. Jonathan said, “I want to thank God for what he has done for me and my family. I wish to dance more than David, if I tried to dance, I missed my steps. “I have all the reasons to thank God. Very few of those in my age bracket have been that lucky. All through my education, I was on government scholarship. I have not suffered lack not because I am hardworking, but it has been God’s grace. “When I look at the whole picture of my life up to when I became the President of this country, I say that if soldiers and policemen that have not received 0.5 per cent of the benefits that I have had from the state can lay down their lives for this country, I should do anything in the interest of Nigeria, including paying the supreme price. “As long as live, I will continue to do my best for the state because the state has helped me as a person. “I have to thank Nigerians, especially the people of my state(Bayelsa) for giving me the opportunity to serve as deputy governor. I thank all Nigerians who gave me the opportunity to serve as Vice President and President. I had their support to complete the tenure of the late president(Umaru Yar’Adua) and later serve as President from which I am exiting now as a very happy and fulfilled man.” The President also thanked the church for standing by him even at his most difficult times. He said even on the March 28 presidential election which he lost to Buhari, there were many people who supported him nationwide. Jonathan promised to continue to pray for the country and the incoming government of Muhammadu Buhari . He said that Buhari won the March 28 election because God wanted it to be so. The President added, “Even for the election, we had people who supported us all over the country but things went the way they did because God wanted them that way for a purpose. “We will continue to pray for the peace of the country and for the success of the incoming administration. “When the country is in good shape, people benefit. When things are going well, people are happy. You don’t need to know Mr. President or Mr. Governor. “The issue is not about Jonathan or Buhari or any other person. The issue is how the government functions in terms of stability and a buoyant economy that will enable Nigerians to move forward and live happily. That is our interest; that is my prayer point. “All religious groups should pray for the country.” Jonathan thereafter requested that his favourite him, “Stand by me” be sang again. He said apart from inspiring him, the hymn “makes him to be aware of the fact that whatever one does, there will always be storms.” Earlier, a former Minister of Information, Jerry Gana, said Jonathan was favoured by God in many ways. Gana thanked God for what Jonathan was able to achieve during his tenure. The former minister, who headed the President’s fundraising committee during electioneering , said “Jonathan is a man of favour. He is highly favoured by God. We thank God for what He has done for Nigeria through him. “Despite the big positions he occupied in the country, he has remained humble and he has succeeded in deepening democracy in the country. “He revived the rail system; he brought back hope to Nigeria and to cap it all; he conceded defeat to his opponent in a heroic manner.” The Minister of Power, Chinedu Nebo, also praised the President while reeling out some of his unique qualities and achievements in office. He said, “He (Jonathan) is humane, gentle and unassuming. He has transformed Nigeria. He is not vindictive. He loves the youth. He empowered, mentored and motivated youths and women. “He is a listening leader. He listens to everyone in the Federal Executive Council before passing judgment. He fixed the electoral process and brought credibility to it. He is Nigeria’s greatest leader.” In his sermon entitled, “Thanksgiving,” the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Revd. Nicholas Okoh, said although Jonathan was leaving office as President, the world would still need his services in different capacities. Okoh said leaving office at this time did not translate to the fact that Jonathan had expired. He explained that what happened to the President was that he had graduated into a class of statesmen and women. Turning to the President, the clergyman said, “You have graduated and entered the distinguished class of statesmen and women.“In your new office, you are a peacemaker. Nigeria, Africa, the black world and the world will need you. You are relevant; you have just started; you have not expired.” He recalled that at the inception of his administration, Jonathan did a similar thing by giving thanks to God. Okoh thanked God for the President’s contributions to the growth of the country, adding that some of the projects he initiated had been completed while others are at advanced stages. He said, “Whatever stage the projects may be, generations yet unborn will read about Jonathan that he governed from so so time to so so time. “It will be studied by our children in history books. So, we should thank God. “Again, you are leaving the (Presidential) Villa alive. Only God knows what would have happened. There is nothing greater than life. “We give thanks for what God did through you in your distressed situation. Your humility saved lives and our enemies were disappointed. There were many people who came and pretended to be your friends, but were sadists. They came with cameras recording, but were disappointed. “What God is doing in your life you may not understand, it might take years, but you need to be patient to understand because deeper meaning of the event will unfold later.” Nigerians misunderstood Jonathan’s calmness –Okupe Meanwhile, the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe, has said Nigerians misunderstood the President’s calmness for indecisiveness. Okupe, on his facebook page on Sunday, said “In a few days, President Jonathan will bow out of office gracefully and graciously. “President Jonathan has done well and served his country well. He exits office as a great President; perhaps Nigeria’s greatest President for all times. Greater than the best before him. He excelled in achievements, in humility, tranquility and simplicity. “Nigerians misunderstood meekness for weakness, Restraint for lack of strength, reticence for inaction and calmness for indecisiveness.” Okupe said that history would judge Jonathan differently, adding that he(Jonathan) would “be remembered as a great man, a good man, humble and humane, purposeful and focused. A great African hero who fought against all manners of evil and conspiracies: Religious, ethnic, national and international, and lost the war. “But ultimately, he triumphed because of the inherent goodness that God Almighty deposited in Him.” The presidential aide urged Nigerians not to weep for Jonathan but “rather pray that our nation will remain, united and stable; that its people will prosper and that God will guide our incoming leaders.” http://sabi9ja..com/2015/05/my-ministers-and-ill-face-persecution.html

Prince William and Kate Middleton caused a huge stir in London by taking their new baby out for a stroll amongst the commoners -- or at least they would have ... but instead a couple of look-alikes did it. The imposters are definitely dead ringers for Wills and Kate -- and, of course, the baby stroller made everyone think they were getting a first look at Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. Several people shamelessly came up and asked for pictures. Alas, the fake royals are really just Heidi Agan and Simon Watkinson -- they're kinda famous over there for posing as the royal couple -- but obviously not so famous they can't still fool the kingdom. http://sabi9ja..com/2015/05/exposed-william-and-kate-royal-subjects.html

Poor turnout of people at the 2015 Lagos Carnival marred the event staged on Saturday at the historical Tafawa Balewa Square on the island. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, dignitaries and fun seekers at the event expressed disappointment that in spite of the publicity given it, the turnout was unimpressive. The attendees, who also complained of lateness in starting the carnival, which they attributed to the current traffic jams across the Lagos metropolis as a result of the lingering fuel scarcity in the country. Lagosians were treated to a nice display of creative costumes and entertaining dances. One of the major attractions was a man who painted himself in attractive colours.
