Foreign Affairs / Sweden: Dozens Arrested After Protests Over Planned Quran Burning by Loveurneighbour: 10:10pm On Apr 18, 2022
Police in Sweden say they have arrested at least 26 people in the wake of weekend clashes in the cities of Norrkoping and Linkoping against the planned burning of the holy Quran by a far-right group.

Eight people were arrested in Norrkoping and 18 others were held in Linkoping, police said in a statement on Monday, adding that protesters in Norrkoping numbering about 150 threw stones at officers and set cars on fire.

Police fired several warning shots. Three people seem to have been hit by ricochets and are now being cared for in hospital,” police said about Norrkoping, adding none of the injuries was life-threatening.

Twenty-six police officers and 14 civilians were injured, police added.

On Sunday, clashes erupted in both cities for the second time in four days over rallies by anti-immigration and anti-Islam group Hard Line, led by the Danish-Swedish politician Rasmus Paludan.

According to health services quoted by local news agency TT, 10 people were hospitalised with minor injuries following the clashes and similar unrest in Linkoping, where the far-right Hard Line also abandoned a demonstration.

The violence began after a demonstration was organised by Paludan.

Police and protesters have been engaged in clashes over the past days beginning on Thursday, leading to injuries to several officers and the torching of multiple vehicles.

Paludan, who had permission for a series of demonstrations across Sweden during the Easter weekend, is known for Quran burnings.

On Sunday, they rallied again to protest against another gathering, which in the end Paludan abandoned.

the city of Malmo, a bus caught fire after unknown perpetrators threw a burning object at the vehicle, broadcaster SVT reported.
Passengers managed to escape the vehicle before anyone was hurt.

Other vehicles and several dustbins were also set on fire in Malmo and police were pelted with stones and Molotov cocktails on Saturday night after far-right leader Paludan burned a Quran.

Politics / Tinubu Is God’s Choice For 2023 Presidency – Bishop Kayode Williams by Loveurneighbour: 7:40am On Apr 18, 2022
The telephone conversation was brief and direct. “Mr. Yusuf, you have to help me deliver this message from God to Nigerians: my secret for 2023 presidential election is Bola Ahmed Tinubu sayeth the Lord,” Bishop Kayode Williams said when he called The Nation recently. Williams, who is better known for evangelism in prisons having spent time in prison himself for armed robbery where he met Christ, said thrice did he receive the message from heaven. An appointment for interview was thus agreed. He spoke exclusively to IBRAHIM APEKHADE YUSUF and FUNKE COLE. Excerpts:

Can you shed more light on the message from God about Asiwaju Bola Tinubu winning the 2023 presidential elections?

This story started in 2014 when God spoke and sincerely directed me to inform all the leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC). That was before the primaries. And I wrote to all of them, starting from the then Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie Oyegun; and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the national leader of the party. They were all struggling then. They didn’t know whether they should vote for Muhammadu Buhari or not. God said, no, Buhari was His choice that I should tell the nation so. So, I wrote a letter to all of them that were in that contest including Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwanso, Owelle Rochas Okorocha.

Everything is there: their names, the dates and copies of the letter. I hope they’re not going to deny me. Even God did not ask me to go and deliver the letters myself. He (God) asked me to connect Oba Adedapo Adewale Tejuoso to give out those letters to all of them. Oba Tejuoso now decided to send the letters by DHL. All of them received their copies. Some of them stepped down for Buhari. I think one or two refused. But the result is history now.

Later God told me that Buhari would defeat the incumbent president, the person there. It was a bit controversial because so many people who heard about it said the incumbent could not be easily defeated. And for the first time in the history of this country, the incumbent, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan was defeated. Shortly after that phase, there was something that happened in Ondo State; it was during the primaries for who would be the governor of the state; so everywhere was tensed. And God asked me to write Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the traditional rulers in Nigeria, particularly obas in the Southwest specifically for them to intervene and allow Rotimi Akeredolu to contest because that was what God said to me; that he (Akeredolu) would win the election. God specifically instructed the obas and Asiwaju Tinubu to support Akeredolu because God has a bigger assignment in the future for him (Tinubu); that all Yoruba must unite and respect Tinubu.

That was what God told me. He (God) said Tinubu should be humble. I specifically took a copy to Akeredolu. God said that Akeredolu should humble himself before Tinubu because He (God) had chosen him (Tinubu) for the upliftment of the Yorubas and the Nigerian nation. When I took the letter to Akeredolu I didn’t see him after enduring some long hours of waiting. So, I said to myself, I have been in prison and since God brought me out I thought to myself that why should I be going to give messages to people.

Thankfully, before Akeredolu became governor I had known him, so I called his phone number and delivered the message. Akeredolu was once my lawyer when I was in prison. Mind you, he wasn’t the one that handled my criminal case. No. The case he handled for me was another case entirely. They (authorities) said there was a riot in the prison and that I didn’t support them to silent the inmates because their action was capable of breaching peace in the prison.

That was the case. So, Akeredolu heard about the case and came to assist. So, when I came out of prison, we became friends. Akeredolu won the primaries and also won the election and the rest as they say is history. Again, in 2018 and 2019, when the electioneering campaigns began, some group of pastors came together. Let me say this. All pastors in Nigeria are divided into three bodies. We have the bigger body, Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN), which is the umbrella body of all Christians in Nigeria. We have founders of churches; some of them are not against CAN neither are they regular members of CAN, but they are kings in their different cathedrals. We also have independent ministers of God, who have nobody to help them up there or even down below. So, they remain there but they are working according to God’s directives in their small way.

They may not have a large congregation, but when aggregated they are more in numbers than the Anglicans, the Catholics, all all other big churches put together. These set of churches by independent ministers are in large numbers and these are the people that really vote. Majority of our leaders don’t vote; it is not even convenient for some leaders in the church. Even if they receive messages they want to announce to the church that God Has spoken, you must follow this man or that man, it is not possible because church members don’t belong to only one party. But as for independent pastors, when God speaks to them, they can direct their members on what to do because the message is a mandate from God, which is different because there are pastors called hirelings, who are recruited and paid by some masters. As a hireling, you cannot go beyond what your masters say. I’m not using this to put down anybody. God sees my mind. I’m only trying to analyse things.

The majority of people that will vote are within ourorganisation, the Integrity Ministers International Ministry Incorporated (IMIM). We have members across the different 774 local government areas in the federation. We’re seriously in control of the grassroots. And that is why my message must be general considering the respect that I have for all our leaders in big churches. I’m giving them the message of God. I’m not forcing anybody. I’m only saying the truth that they should look at it and consider whether it is from the Lord or not, because the Bible says they have the right to go into prophetical message and analyse.

Foreign Affairs / World Should Be Worried, Putin May Soon Deploy Nuclear Weapons--Zelensky by Loveurneighbour: 3:44pm On Apr 17, 2022
Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, has said that "all of the countries of the world" should be prepared for the possibility that Russian President, Vladimir Putin, could deploy tactical nuclear weapons on Ukraine
In an interview with CNN, Zelensky said Putin could turn to either nuclear or chemical weapons because he does not value the lives of the people of Ukraine.

"Not only me -- all of the world, all of the countries have to be worried because it can be not real information, but it can be truth," Zelensky said, switching into English to emphasize his point.
"Chemical weapons, they should do it, they could do it, for them the life of the people, nothing. That's why," Zelensky said.
"We should not be afraid but be ready. But that is not a question for Ukraine, not only for Ukraine but for all the world, I think."

Politics / National Assembly Should Enact Laws To Legalise Arms For Citizens To End Bandits by Loveurneighbour: 5:46pm On Apr 16, 2022
A Federal lawmaker, Yusuf Gagdi, has said the National Assembly should enact laws to allow Nigerians bear arms to defend themselves against terrorist attacks.
Gagdi, representing Pankshin, Kanke and Kanam Federal Constituency in Plateau State, said this would curb the spate of insecurity ravaging Nigerian communities, NAN reports.

He said, "If we want to curtail the spate of attacks in communities, we should make laws that will permit citizens to carry arms.
"If for instance, those who attacked my people know that the locals also have arms, they won’t come, and even if they do, the casualty will not be this high.”
Nonetheless, he said that there must be regulations on the use of arms, just as he suggested that whoever misuses arms should be jailed or get a death sentence.
"But I tell you, if citizens are allowed to carry these arms to protect themselves, all these attacks and killings will end,” he reiterated.
The lawmaker said he had earlier visited some communities in Kanam and Wase local government areas where bandits killed 106 persons and burnt several houses.
He further called on security agencies to always work on intelligence reports at their disposals to avert situations that could lead to security breach.
He said that the attacks in his constituency could had been avoided if the security agencies acted on the intelligence report at their disposal.

Politics / Insecurity: US Approves $1bn Attack Helicopters, Others For Nigeria by Loveurneighbour: 5:06am On Apr 15, 2022
The United States State Department has cleared the sale of 12 AH-1Z Cobra attack helicopters to Nigeria worth nearly $1bn, apparently after US lawmakers lifted objections over human rights concerns.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency on Thursday announced the sale of the helicopters and related defence systems to the Nigerian military.

The package includes $25m for human rights-related training, according to YahooNews.

The sale includes the Bell-made Cobras; 28 General Electric-made T700-401C engines; 2,000 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon Systems used to convert unguided missiles into precision-guided missiles; and night vision, targeting and navigation systems.

The case highlights the Biden administration’s attempts to balance human rights concerns in the arms sale process.

Foreign Policy had reported in July that the top Democrat and Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee delayed the sale amid concerns Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari was drifting toward authoritarianism. The country is facing multiple security challenges, including terrorism.

“Nigeria requires a fundamental rethink of the framework of our overall engagement,” committee Chairman Bob Menendez, D-N.J., told Secretary of State Antony Blinken during the diplomat’s testimony before the panel last year.

Menendez also tweeted that “the Nigerian government must get serious about security” after the militant group Boko Haram kidnapped more than 300 schoolboys in December 2020. The Nigerian government also ran afoul of the New Jersey Democrat in 2019 after arresting one of his constituents, Nigerian-American journalist Omoyele Sowore.

According to the announcement, $25m in the package will be dedicated to “institutional and technical assistance” to Nigeria’s military to continue its Air-to-Ground Integration program, which concerns targeting processes that are consistent with international humanitarian law and the laws of armed conflict.

“The proposed sale will better equip Nigeria to contribute to shared security objectives, promote regional stability and build interoperability with the U.S. and other Western partners,” the announcement read.

“This sale will be a major contribution to US and Nigerian security goals,” it added

The development appears to open a new chapter in US-Nigeria relations.

The United States had last May said there was no plan to relocate its Africa Command from its current base in Germany to Nigeria or any other part of Africa despite the worsening state of insecurity in the region.

The US gave the response barely two weeks after the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), appealed to the US government to consider relocating AFRICOM to Africa to assist Nigeria and other adjoining countries to combat worsening terrorism, banditry and other security crises.

The President made the plea in a virtual meeting with the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, on April 27, 2021

Germany-based Africa Command (AFRICOM) is the US military headquarters that oversees its operations in Africa.

Buhari’s request followed a series of recent military casualties in Nigeria’s decade-long fight against Boko Haram terrorists, fresh expansion of the insurgents’ bases to Niger and Nasarawa States, and heavy waves of abductions and killings by bandits in the North.

Buhari had said, “In this connection, and considering the growing security challenges in West and Central Africa, Gulf of Guinea, Lake Chad region and the Sahel, weighing heavily on Africa, it underscores the need for the United States to consider relocating AFRICOM headquarters from Stuttgart, Germany to Africa and near the Theatre of Operation.”

However, the US government later ruled out any plan to relocate AFRICOM from its current base in Germany to Nigeria or any part of Africa.

According to the United States Department of Defence’ Pentagon, previous studies have shown that the cost of relocating AFRICOM from Germany to Africa is very huge.

Meanwhile, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), will on Tuesday meet the service chiefs over the rising spate of insecurity in the country.

The Jigawa State Governor, Abubakar Badaru, disclosed this on Thursday, while briefing journalists after the Council of State meeting in Abuja.

According to the governor, the proposed meeting is sequel to the recommendations by the council over the security challenge in the country.

But the Peoples Democratic Party described the All Progressives Congress as a failure over its inability to tackle the insecurity rocking the nation, stressing that Nigerians are waiting eagerly for 2023 to vote them out of power.

The party accused the government of always passing the buck, describing it as incompetent.

Foreign Affairs / Ukraine Vs Russia War: We Can’t Bear It Anymore – UN Makes Two Demands by Loveurneighbour: 2:18pm On Apr 14, 2022
The United Nations Secretary-General has insisted that the people of Ukraine cannot bear the violence being inflicted on them amid the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, said this while calling for ‘the need to silence the guns and accelerate negotiations towards peace’ between Ukraine and Russia.

Guterres also warned that the world is on the brink of a “perfect storm” as the war in Ukraine exacerbates an already struggling global economy.

In a press release on Wednesday, the UN chief said the war could lead to a “three-dimensional crisis” in food, energy, and finance, areas that have already been hit hard by COVID-19 and climate change, he said.

"We are now facing a perfect storm that threatens to devastate the economies of developing countries,” Guterres said.

“The people of Ukraine cannot bear the violence being inflicted on them.

"And the most vulnerable people around the globe cannot become collateral damage in yet another disaster for which they bear no responsibility.”

“We need to pull developing countries back from the financial brink,” he added. “The international financial system has deep pockets.

"Above all, this war must end. We need to silence the guns and accelerate negotiations towards peace now.
For the people of Ukraine. For the people of the region. And for the people of the world,” he said.

Politics / Presidency: Consensus Candidate Is Rubbish, Deceptive –Wike Blasts Saraki, Atiku by Loveurneighbour: 2:11pm On Apr 14, 2022
By Seun Opejobi

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has faulted the arrangement for a consensus Presidential candidate in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Wike described the consensus arrangement as rubbish and fake news used in deceiving PDP members.

Speaking with PDP delegates and members in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, on Wednesday, the Presidential aspirant said consensus could only happen through equity, justice, and fairness.

He recalled telling a former Senate President that he would not support a consensus arraignment in PDP.

According to Wike: “I am not here for any consensus rubbish. I have told people not to deceive our party members with fake news about consensus. We all believe in consensus, but it must come with equity, justice, and fairness.

“When some of my colleagues led by the former Senate President came to me, I told them I would not fall into the consensus trap. If you want to run for election, please run, and if you are not ready, please go home.

“They want somebody who would come and bow down for them. But what the country needs now is fearless and courageous somebody.”

The likes of former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubakar and some other aspirants have been clamouring for a consensus Presidential candidate for the PDP.

Politics / 2023: Nigeria Needs Me – Tinubu by Loveurneighbour: 6:12am On Apr 14, 2022
All Progressives Congress (APC) national leader, Bola Tinubu has declared that Nigeria needs a courageous leader like him.

Tinubu described himself as the most qualified for the position of Nigeria’s President in 2023.

The former Governor spoke at a parley in Lagos attended by former and serving All Progressives Congress (APC) Speakers and their Deputies.

"We have the brilliance, the resources, the focus. We don’t just know how to run the race and take care of the gear of progress.

“Just as I need Nigeria, Nigeria needs me”, he said at the event hosted by Lagos Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.

Tinubu recalled how he changed the fortunes of Lagos when he was the helmsman from 1999 to 2007.

"In the face of tyranny, I have survived, struggled for democracy. I have endured the bush path, lived without a family, spent resources,” he said.

The one-time Senator said he was the first governor to grant autonomy to the House of Assembly.

“I survived non-allocation of local government funds. We didn’t suffer, we didn’t retrench”, he told the gathering.

Tinubu said he inherited N600million as Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) with zero allocation from Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).

“We survived and today, Lagos is number one economy. That is why I am begging you to do me a favour so that I can do Nigeria a favour”, the aspirant added.

Politics / Anambra Sit-At-Home: Soludo Won’t Bow To Criminal Elements, APGA Vows by Loveurneighbour: 4:51pm On Apr 10, 2022
The All Progressives Grand Alliance has said that the Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, will not succumb to criminal elements working hard to blackmail and derail efforts at curtailing insecurity in the state.

The party said no matter what the criminal elements are doing, it stands by the governor’s decision to end the Monday sit-at-home in Anambra and “it cannot be changed”.

Addressing journalists in Awka, on Sunday, the National Coordinator, APGA Media Warriors Forum, Chinedu Obigwe, noted that the State Government had given the criminals, hiding under the guise of enforcing the already cancelled IPOB sit-at-home order enough time to repent.

Obigwe pointed out that the hoodlums terrorising the state are the Simon Ekpa’s faction of IPOB who are “labouring very hard to use their acts of terrorism to intimidate the governor and to also instil fear in the minds of ndi Anambra”.

He said for the avoidance of doubt, IPOB had cancelled the Monday sit-at-home order even before the emergence of Soludo as the governor of the state.

The party urged the people of the state to commence full activities on Mondays as directed by the governor without any fear of intimidation by the hoodlums.

He said, “This coming Monday is a day all activities are expected to commence with full force in Anambra State and we need to adhere to the governor’s directive by going to work, school and markets on that day.

"Soludo is a fearless lion that cannot be cowed nor intimidated by criminals that earn a living from insecurity. All they are doing is a waste of time because the governor is not someone that can be frightened, cowed or intimidated.

His decision to end the every Monday sit-at-home in the state stands and cannot be changed. What we like about Soludo is his approach and strong will to turn impossibility into possibility.

"He did not mince words in saying that he will discuss the good, the bad and the ugly but that he will do everything humanly possible to actualise his dream of turning Anambra into a liveable and prosperous homeland.

While calling on the people of Anambra to support the governor’s transformation agenda for the growth of the state, the party said the state’s dying economy must be resuscitated by stopping the criminals enforcing the illegal sit-at-home.

When Soludo assumed office, he realised that the every Monday sit-at-home order is killing Anambra economy and also destroying the future of our children hence the reason he decided to collaborate with the authentic leadership of IPOB to go after the criminals that are still enforcing the already cancelled order.

"Investigation proved beyond every reasonable doubt that one Finland-based Simon Ekpa is the leader of the criminal gang terrorising Anambra and the whole Igbo land in the guise of enforcing every Monday sit-at-home order.

“Ekpa has resorted to blackmailing Soludo and the authentic leadership of IPOB but shame awaits him because the governor is not ready to back out of his decision to restore the economy of the South-East, being destroyed by criminals in the guise of enforcing non-existent order. The most annoying part is that this Ekpa is not based in Nigeria.

"He also dumped Nnamdi Kanu and said openly that his faction of IPOB will no longer take directives from him.
“But the governor had gone as far as offering them amnesty and calling on them to drop their guns and embrace a better way of earning a living. He recently revealed that the criminals terrorising Anambra that were arrested by law enforcement agents are not from Anambra State and I believe that they must be from Simon Ekpa’s home state.

"Ndi Anambra, we must join hands with Soludo to resist these criminals that want to hold our state economy to ransom. On April 4, last week, the every Monday sit-at-home was put to an end with prayers in all the churches in Anambra. Anambra is our only state and we must restore the lost glory of our state by resuscitating our dying state economy.

Politics / 2023:Attempt To Sideline SouthEast From PDP Presidential Ticket Will Spell Doom by Loveurneighbour: 6:13pm On Apr 09, 2022
By Lukman Olabiyi

Says, it'll be unjustifable, insensitive for North to retain power

A People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, Dr Nwachukwu Anakwenze, has declared that the only way the party could compensate the South East for its loyalty, is to give it presidential ticket to aspirant from the region.

Anakwenze said any attempt to deny aspirants from the geopolitical zone, presidential ticket of PDP would spell doom for the party in the forthcoming election.

The presidential aspirant stated this while speaking at a press conference held in Lagos yesterday.

He insisted that it would be unjustifiable and insensitive for the North to retain power in 2023.

Anakwenze pleaded with all patriots, men and women of good will in all the part of the country to ensure that rotation / zoning of presidential power to South East in 2023 by electing candidate from the area.

He said southeasterners are insisting on the presidency and they were not ready to take the vice president slot.

I hereby strongly advise, if our party, PDP want to this election come 2023, our PDP stakeholders and Northern presidential aspirants should show patriotism in terms of fairness and equity by stepping down for a spirants from South East region as vice presidential slot will be vehemently rejected by the zone,’ he said.

On reason the region deserved to produce the next president of the country, he said since the country returned to a democratic system of government, all the zones had called the shots except South East.

Adding that when the presidency rotates to Southern Nigeria, the zone that most deserved it is the southeast because other zones have occupied the seat before.

‘South East region of the country had been deprived of opportunities of producing a President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for 57 years. We should use the 2023 presidency to reconcile Ndigbo into Nigeria’s political project. This coming election should be strictly for presidential aspirants from the South East geopolitical zone. Rotatory presidency, of which southeast Nigeria has been marginalized and deprived of 33 years of military rule and 24 years of democratic rule. We blamed the rising national insecurity on this marginalization and injustice. Nigeria can come out of this if justice, fairness and equity are given a chance in the 2023 presidential election,’ he said.

Crime / Miyetti Allah Evolves Strategies To Curb Security Challenges Bedeviling Pastoral by Loveurneighbour: 6:11pm On Mar 27, 2022
The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, says it has evolved strategies to curb incessant security challenges confronting pastoralists.

It said in a communique issued in Abuja on Sunday that the strategies were the outcomes of a meeting held by its National Executive Council, NEC.

The communique was signed by the National President of MACBAN, Hussein Bosso, and the National Secretary, Baba Ngelzarma.

It stated that the meeting deliberated on security challenges facing pastoralists across the country and issues related to upcoming MACBAN national elections.

It stated also that MACBAN would give maximum support to government and security agencies to deal with outlaws, bandits and other criminals making the lives of pastoralists unbearable in rural areas.

It stated that the NEC directed state chapters to conduct town hall meetings, involving leaders, youth leaders and other critical stakeholders to address peculiar issues militating against pastoralists’ education.

"State chapters were also directed to address factors affecting the well-being of pastoralists and invoke the culture of `Pulaku’ against any family that harbours or aids criminality.

“The association expressed its appreciation for the support it had received as well as the concern of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, on the plight of pastoralists.

“MACBAN assures the sultan that the association will do whatever it takes to restore dignity, culture of Fulani people and address issues affecting pastoralists with all the seriousness it deserves,’’ it stated.

The communique added that the association appealed to the sultan to organise a national conference involving pastoralists’ leaders, the intelligentsia and other critical stakeholders.

“This is with the view to addressing issues of insecurity, economic empowerment and the negative profiling of pastoralists in the social and mainstream media.

"The meeting also expressed serious concerns about the continuous displacement of thousands of pastoralists’ families as a result of cattle rustling, banditry, kidnapping and the activities of outlawed groups.

They attack, maim, or kill pastoralist without any just cause. If this continues it might soon bankrupt the livestock industry as a whole,’’ it stated.

It added that the meeting agreed to follow the timeline, rules and regulations for the conduct of the forthcoming MACBAN national elections.

The NEC meeting, presided over by the MACBAN president, was attended by chairmen and secretaries from the 36 states of the federation and the FCT.

The communique stated that one “Ardo” (Ruga leader) from each state and representatives of the Sultan of Sokoto, the Emir of Kano, the Emir of Zazzau (Kaduna State) and the Emir of Katsina were also in attendance.

Although I can’t really remember my mother saying, “Son, patience is a virtue!”, I do for some reason have that saying stuck in my head from my childhood. As if just saying that to a child helps them to understand the importance of patience… I suppose that saying this over and over to you helps you to build value around the concept thus aiding in development of your moral system.

Bianca’s husband and hero, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, the same time 78 years ago, slapped a British teacher for ‘behaving badly’.

The media is awash with a blend of serious and comic analyses of Bianca Ojukwu’s violent encounter with former Governor Willie Obiano’s wife, Ebelechukwu, and what led to it in Awka, Anambra State during the handover of power to Governor Chukwuma Soludo. The summary of the analyses in the past few days depicts the fact that, like her husband Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Bianca has very low tolerance threshold for insults and bad behaviour.

Prime Business Africa reports that the March 17, 2022 unfortunate episode involving Bianca Ojukwu, former beauty queen and daughter of another tough man and governor of the old Anambra State, Chief C.C Onoh, occurred (almost) exactly 78 years (March 15, 1944) after her husband had a similar encounter as student of the King’s College, Lagos.

A look at a historic event in the life of the late Biafran leader that led to his expulsion from Kings’ College at age 11 implies similitude of tolerance levels to certain forms of behaviour. Ojukwu’s father, Chief Louis Odumegwu Ojukwu, had to send him to Epsom College, England to finish his High School before proceeding to the Oxford University and subsequently joining the Nigerian Army.

Also trending in the social media space is Ojukwu’s alleged encounter with the late Umaru Dikko during the Constitutional Conference of 1995 after the latter made some disparaging remarks when Ojukwu was speaking at the plenary. Ojukwu was said to have waited for the unsuspecting Dikko to move towards the toilet before walking up to give him a slap.Bianca Ojukwu has always relived fond memories of her late husband and how he taught her to be strong in character.

Could having low-threshold tolerance for insults be one of those lessons? No doubt, accounts of Dim Ojukwu’s childhood experiences showed he had been a fighter, a revolutionist, with very little patience for bad conduct, no matter who got involved.

By Seun Opejobi

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed pleasure over the increase in membership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, saying the APC has recorded 41 million members.

Speaking at the party’s national convention yesterday in Abuja, Buhari said the record now puts APC as the largest political party in Nigeria.

He noted that the numerical strength puts APC at a level where it can win elections fairly.

According to Buhari: “I am impressed to learn that the membership registration and revalidation exercise undertaken by the Caretaker Committee has recorded over 41 million members.

”This has proved that we are indeed Nigeria’s leading and largest political party.

"It also exhibits our numerical strength and the potential to win elections at all given times fairly and squarely.”

Foreign Affairs / Russia Vs Ukraine: It Will Lead To World War III–President Zelensky Warns Putin by Loveurneighbour: 9:37pm On Mar 20, 2022
By John Owen Nwachukwu

Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, has warned that it would end in a third World War if President Vladimir Putin of Russia fails to come to the negotiation table.

Zelensky said he is ready to meet Putin on the negotiation table but warned that if the attempts fail, it could mean the ongoing war would lead to “a third World War.”

“I’m ready for negotiations with him,” the President said, adding that he has been ready for the meeting for the last two years and insisted without negotiations between him and his Russian counterpart, the war will not end.

However, Zelensky said that if there is just one percent chance for the conflict to stop, both sides should grab the opportunity, adding more innocent people are being killed on a daily basis.

"But, unfortunately, our dignity is not going to preserve our lives. So, I think we have to use any format, any chance in order to have a possibility of negotiating and the possibility of talking to Putin. But if these attempts fail, that would mean that this is a third World War,” he told CNN.

Politics / Umahi: Wike Now Idi Amin Of PDP – Ohanaeze by Loveurneighbour: 8:52pm On Mar 20, 2022
Apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has described some recent utterances of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on burning national issues as worrisome and tyrannical.

The group in a statement by its Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro said such disposition would likely destroy Wike’s political career.

He said the Governor was behaving like Idi Amin of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

While accusing Wike of openly claiming responsibility for the recent judgement against Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi State, Ohanaeze said “we are reviewing the legal implications of
Governor Wike’s vexatious outbursts over the Abuja Federal High Court judgement that sacked Ebonyi Governor, the Deputy Governor, and the House of Assembly members.”

Ohanaeze claimed that “this is a confirmation that there is a grand hooligan operation to destabilize the Southeast, which is unfortunately, coming from a man who denied his Igbo identity”.

Isiguzoro added that, “the massacre of Igbos in Obigbo (Oyibo) in Rivers State is still fresh in our minds.

“The sponsors of the grand scheme and conspiracy to remove the Ebonyi Governor remains a subversive and provocative invasion aimed at distracting the South-East from the 2023 presidential election.

“For how long will Wike realize that he should be a shining light of the PDP and the Niger Delta rather than picking up fights on all fronts?

Ndigbo will forgive Governor Wike if he retreats and apologizes to Umahi, but disastrous consequences await him if he continues in these futile expeditions.”

Foreign Affairs / Russia-ukraine War: Time Will Prove Our Position – China by Loveurneighbour: 8:14am On Mar 20, 2022
By Don Silas

China’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, has said that “time will prove that China’s position is on the right side of history” amid the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

Wang Yi disclosed this on Sunday while speaking with reporters, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“China will continue to make independent judgments based on the merits of the matter and in an objective and fair attitude.

“We will never accept any external coercion and pressure, and we also oppose any groundless accusations and suspicions against China,” the statement added.

Wang said, “The long-term solution is to abandon the Cold War mentality, refrain from engaging in group confrontation, and truly form a balanced, effective and sustainable regional security architecture. Only in this way can long-term stability on the European continent be achieved.”

Recall that the war between Ukraine and Russia began in February.

The war enters its twenty-third day today, with massive casualties already recorded.

Russian President, Vladimir Putin had ordered the invasion of Ukraine over disagreements on some political issues.

Putin had also listed some conditions to end the war.
