I did something once as a child of about 8 years, at the time it was harmless fun, but with the benefit of hindsight and what I know now, it was quite mean to do, though I had no such intention at the time.

I was a bored child locked alone at home one sunny afternoon, and from our window upstairs I saw an albino lady walking down the road across our house. Without any thought I started calling from the window loudly at the lady "oyibo pepper, oyibo pepper, oyibo pepper xxxxxx". A trait I must've picked up from school mates and compound children then, when we saw albinos with amusement and awe-like bewilderment. After her initial shock, she looked in my direction but I couldn't make out if she smiled at me from the distance, but she kept walking on until she was out of view. All of this time, I was still screaming at the top of my lungs like an excited child at the time, because it was one of the very few occasions I had seen an albino. They were the closest relations to caucasians aka, oyibo people. So you can imagine my misguided excitement as a kid. But looking back, I now see it may have been quite demoralizing to her because it was so unexpected, and she wasn't even aware of my existence until I just started shouting loudly like that. There was no social media then, the pace of living was considerably slower, but doubtless in my present station I would be so shocked if something like that happened to me now. Funny thing is I grew up later to have an albino classmate, Joy, that I even later developed a crush on. Life. If you're that lady, and you see this, kindly accept my apologies.

At the time Nigeria didn't give it much thought, but now placed in contextual perspective, it is evidently clear that the intention had always been to embarrass and sabotage Nigerian efforts.
