A Nigerian Air Force’s Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UAV) has destroyed a logistics base used by members of the Boko Haram Terrorists group, the air force said in a statement Tuesday.

The UAV was on intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) mission when it came across the gathering of BHTs at Garin Moloma, about one kilometre north of the Sambisa Forest, spokesperson Ayodele Famuyiwa, a group captain, said.

“At the time of the UAV attack, the location, though under surveillance for quite a while, had a large gathering of BHTs and vehicles.

“The multiple explosions and huge fire ball from the location, as can be seen from the enclosed video of the UAV strike, strongly suggests that it may be either an ammunition/fuel storage or weapons/technical workshop.

“This strike is thus a major setback for the Boko Haram Sect, and a major plus for the fight against insurgency by own troops,” the statement said.

Your question is a silly one. It's the money of Delta State that James Ibori embezzled. He couldn't be prosecuted at the time because he enjoyed immunity.

Tompolo didn't enjoy immunity, and as a result could've been prosecuted.

Nigeria’s main workers’ union has declared its support for the anti-graft war of the federal government, describing corruption as a “national malaise that afflicts virtually every fabric of our national life.”

In a communiqué issued at the end of its national executive council meeting held in Lagos on Friday, the NLC said it “continues to express its strong and unalloyed support for government’s war on corruption.”

While speaking on the mismanaged $2.1 billion funds meant for the purchase of arms for the military, the Congress said “the list of the corrupt as expressed in the $2.1 arms contract scandal underscores the extent of the rot in the system.”

The labour union advised the beneficiaries of the money disbursed by the office of the National Security Adviser, NSA, to “apologize to Nigerians for their shameful act.”

The ex-NSA, Sambo Dasuki, who is accused of superintending the mismanagement is currently being tried in court. Alleged beneficiaries of the funds including the spokesperson of Nigeria’s largest opposition party, PDP, and other leaders of the party are also being tried for their roles in the scam; now popularly referred to as DasukiGate.

“Corruption is not just a national malaise that afflicts virtually every fabric of our national life, it has all but crippled the nation and accordingly requires a national action,” the labour union said.

In its communiqué released on Sunday and signed by its president, Ayuba Waba, and General Secretary, Peter Ozo-Eson, the NLC also asked the federal government to beam its searchlight on road contracts by past administrations.

The labour union also condemned the removal of petrol subsidy by the government as well as increase in electricity tariff by the regulatory agency, NERC.

It is noted that two key pipelines were blown off the day after the court ordered Tompolo's arrest. It is a familiar tactic. That dirty trick once worked. Then, some self-styled "freedom-fighters" just waylaid scores of troops and hijacked 21 Army rifles. The military high command soon gave ultimatum for the weapons to be returned. Fearing a repeat of Odi, the state authorities in Delta State embarked on a last-ditch effort to persuade the militants to surrender the guns.

When the babel inside the hall cleared a bit, Ibori eventually delivered his message in parable: "In short, na come I come beg una wey dey hide something wey una no suppose hide. I beg una make una bring them comot."

In all, what struck me was the sense of complete alienation. That space looked more like no-man's-land. The way the inhabitants conducted themselves didn't suggest they recognize Nigerian sovereignty. Nor did the governor communicate with them like people he had power over. Amid the chant of abusive songs from the locals, the troops who came with us looked and acted completely impotent. It was a very humiliating encounter.

It explains why pipeline-protection, traditionally the preserve of the navy, was handed over to Tompolo for a hefty fee. But rather than abate, oil theft only escalated thereafter to a scale never seen in Nigeria's history. Just as Tompolo also became the purchasing officer for the NIMASA when the agency got approval to acquire six battleships. The way and manner he went about purchasing the fleet of six refurbished naval vessels and combat boats from the Norwegian government only brought the nation further ridicule at the international arms market.

But whereas everyone outside railed at this abnormality out of a shared sense of decency, back home in Nigeria, there was not even a whimper in official circles!

Until GEJ was dethroned last year, to say he and his co-travelers were acutely weighed down by the "oju o ro la ri" (Yoruba for upstarts intoxicated by sudden wealth) syndrome would be putting things mildly. A rather ludicrous story is often told to illustrate the severity of Tompolo's own delusion. At the crowded lobby of a popular 5-Star hotel in Lagos, he once reportedly asked his pilot via cellphone to fly down from another location in a raised voice. Arms stretched out in demonstration (as if the guy at the other end could see him!), he reportedly stressed: "Na dat one wey im hand (wings) long, long well well you go bring o."

On the political front, many governors would today attest that, under Jonathan, the fear of Tompolo was the beginning of wisdom. As another tale goes, once some governors found themselves waiting endlessly on the president at the Villa. Then, sauntered in Tompolo in a blaze of glory and he reportedly strolled straight into Jonathan's office without let. While the state chief executives continued their wait!

The Nigerian Airforce has sustained aerial bombardment of Sambisa forest with over 280 operational sorties conducted against terrorists targets in the area in the last one month.

Several ‘high value terrorists’ were killed in the operations, officials said.

The Deputy Theatre Commander, Air, of Operation Lafiya Dole, Air Vice Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao, who stated this at a media briefing in Maiduguri stated that the air strikes and bombardments were conducted by the Air Component of the Operation Lafiya Dole in the North-East.

Mr. Amao said the ongoing and sustained air operations and surveillance within the theater of operation in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States were intensified between December 2015 and January 2016 towards ending the Boko Haram menace.

He said: “In continuation of the counter insurgency, the air component in the last one month conducted 286 operational sorties against terrorists’ targets from 25 December to date in the Sambisa forest covering an area of 157,000km2 which is equivalent to the total land mass of South Korea, Portugal and Togo in a total of 536 hours, 21 minutes were flown by various platforms engaged in the operations,

“This translates into 316,637.5 litres of aviation fuel which amounts to N60.3 million, excluding the cost of maintenance and armament expended.”

He further explained that prominent operations among the missions carried out included an air strike on December 25 last year where some terrorists’ leaders and junior commanders, who gathered for a leadership meeting in Sambisa Forest, were neutralized by a precision strike which led to the killing of several Boko Haram terrorists.


There was also a significant strike conducted on January 17, 2016, following intelligence report on the location of a High Value Terrorists (Boko Haram HVT) leader taking refuge at a location south of Arra village in the Sambisa Forest, where air strikes neutralized the target.

He added that some areas of the successful airstrikes conducted to include; Gadzama, Ngwalimiri, Dure and Dure Takwalla, Ajigin, Bitta, Gulumba Gana, Sigel, Damasak and Kumshe communities now occupied by insurgents.

Other areas that came under strike include; Yajiwa, Asaga, Tumbun Gini and Mada towns, amongst others, as well as medical evacuation missions which were also carried out at Marte Local Government area and Banki town of Borno state on January 21 this year.

The deputy commander however maintained that the Nigerian Air Force, through its Component in Operation Lafiya Dole, is focused on sustaining air operations and providing support to ground troops of the Armed Forces as they strive to rid Nigeria of the Boko Haram insurgency.

Mr. Amao further added that all the areas bombarded were thoroughly monitored on intelligence surveillance and eye services before the attacks or shelling.

Most of the targets included Boko Haram fuel pump storages, Solar Panels, Meeting Points and hideouts in the samuba forests as most of the areas were identified first before the air strikes.
