Christianity EtcRe: The Meaninglessness Of "I Have A Deep Personal Relationship With Jesus Christ" by Lucario007(m): 5:46pm On Jun 06, 2017
Don't like Jesus? No problem.
Don't like religion. Sure thing.
Going off on a rant about how people are blind for following religion.... Nah.
Point is this, when you see a guy who says he believes in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy, do you argue it out as to why he believes that or do you laugh and say "Pfft, sure, whatever."
Oh and Jesus was a real person. There are historical records proving his feet trekked across our earth. Whether he is the "Messiah" is actually what's up for debate.

Sorry, but, do you know what you are saying?
Sorry is not a word indicated for politeness.

@you my friend, were agnostic....

You can go back to talking to yourself in the name of praying to God...
Have these comments made you any wiser? Have you contributed to the society as a large?

Please do not be like the ignorant fools who only have the guts to speak their minds on the internet. In person, you would never be able to utter the trash that your fingers just spewed unto the keyboard. I asked for advice from reasonable people, not to hear nonsense from living trash cans.

hopefulLandlord:
OP doesn't seem to understand something here

atheism NEVER promised anyone anything

THAT is an absolute fact that no one can counter

Religion however (especially Christianity) promises its adherents EVERYTHING

to prove this I'll quote bible verses

And Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, `Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ it will happen. “And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.” (Matthew 21:21-22)

Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst. (Matthew 18:19-20)

Amen, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it shall be done for him. Therefore I tell you, all that you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it and it shall be yours. (Mark 11:24-25)

And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it. (John 14:13-14)

(Matthew 17:20 For truly, I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.)

so if an someone wants to "gain" something, atheism is the last option because it never promised anyone anything

Religion, especially Christianity however promises everything but does forking nothing special

Now to the OP, you strike me as someone who's suffering due to the fact that people KNOW you physically as an atheist, you argue physically a lot with theists, this kinda attitude (if true) can only lead to frustration especially in an ultra religious country like Nigeria because Nigerians can go to any length to "prove" their god exists even setting you up to die, refuse you job, cut connections with you, avoid you as much as possible, refuse you help at critical times and guess what? their religion encourages this

everyone around me know I'm an atheist but I hardly argue with theists like I do online and even when I do, I make sure I argue as less as possible and switch the discussion as fast as I can to football or politics

I learnt this by thinking to myself, what would a Muslim do if Hopefullandlord and a Christian are shot and bleeding to death but the Muslim can only stop the bleeding of one? believe me the bitter answer is that the Muslim would gladly save the Christian and leave me to die

if I and a Christian are vying for just one job and the interviewer knows me to be an atheist, he would offer the job to the Christian

research shows people trust leaving their child to a serial rapist than leaving the child with an atheist
You've made some valid points here, and are the only one who has proven to have a sound reasoning mind unlike those empty vessels responding with sarcasm and taunts.

To be honest, my issue was that I had confided in the wrong person that I was an Atheist, and in no time everyone knew me as such, and I could not start denying it due to certain irrefutable proofs. This has led to so many issues that I can't even begin to explain, such as the ones you've highlighted, and in the long run, it had me feeling that I had made the wrong choice, and wants me to go back to being able to exist without this knowledge.
If I am being honest with myself, I knew that the second I doubted the existence of God, it would be impossible to go back without something like retrograde amnesia completely wiping my mind and memories of everything I have seen, read and heard.
I had hoped there would be some rare cases here or someone like me who had grown tired of atheism and found a new religion, but all I have seen is people telling me to Accept Jesus, to go back and pray, to get on my knees... they do not understand how it works. They do not understand that it is psychologically impossible for me to start reconditioning my mind to believing in things that I had considered false. It is like trying to convince myself that a car is a unicorn and the color black is the rainbow...

Christianity EtcAtheism Has Done Nothing For Me: How Do I Regain Faith As A Christian? by Lucario007(op): 12:23am On Feb 18, 2017
I've been an atheist for a while, and at first, I was the angry sort who went around discrediting religion and arguing with the Jehovah's Witnesses that dared step foot on my door.
Then I became more relaxed, open to other peoples opinion and accepting that they have the right to maintain their own personal convictions, as long as they didn't try to shove it down my throat.

Now though, I realize that being an atheist in a society like Nigeria hasn't helped me accomplish anything. Other than arguing and trying to rationalize with Christians, of what use isn't grander scale of disbelief?
Yes, I am aware of the wonderfully corrupt preachers who utilize the gulibility of Christians to enrich their pockets, but other than arguing about it with people who will condemn and insult me for trying to open their eyes, it has helped me accomplish nothing.

In the end, I sat down and asked myself, what if THEY were right all along, what if in this grand universe to which we are an insignificant speck, there IS a God?

To the atheists like Seun, just for one instance, throw aside your unrational disbelief, because if anything is possible, think about what it would mean if there really is a being higher than what we can fathom that lives in existence?

And so I find myself here, asking if it is possible to regain my faith. I have said and seen and written so many things considered blasphemous, but now, I want to correct this flaw in my thinking.

So I ask, how do I regain my faith in God? How do I go back to believing once more?

Christianity EtcTheists And Atheists: Will We Ever Stop Arguing? by Lucario007(op): 5:14pm On Jul 22, 2016
Is no one else tired of coming into the religion section just to see the daily arguments of theists versus their atheist counterparts? Do we not realize that there is no real point in constantly arguing like this, as there is almost no way a couple of words on a thread like nairaland can actually change our views?

In lieu of world disasters, terrorist attacks, economic crises, instability, corruption and insecurity, does who or what you choose to believe in matter?

The world is a vast place, and the universe even vaster. If some wish to believe there is a God and a peaceful afterlife, then let them. If they wish to disclaim that belief, then theists simply let them be, after all you know the wiser, and at the end you shall all see who's right.

Please don't come in here arguing about this religion doing so many bad things or that religion having done nothing, that's just the needless fallacy of Division.

Merely because a group as a whole has a characteristic, it often doesn't follow that individuals in the group have that characteristic. Not all atheists are immoral individuals just as not all Christians are saints.

So why can't we just respect each other's beliefs and get along? Why? huh

PhonesRe: Funny Pokemon Go Memes Players Can Relate To by Lucario007(m):
grin
The saddest thing about this thing is that I've been playing Pokemon for almost 10 years now, from the original Pokemon Red and Blue to Pokemon X and Y. [for Pete's sake my goddamned username is that of a Pokémon] and through it all people called me weird for it.

Then Pokémon Go came out, and everything changed. cheesy

However, I do still prefer the original games where we actually have to battle Pokemon before we catch them, weaken their health and of course take on the notorious evil teams of the regions and beat the champion before we start to catch em all.
I mean who can say they never enjoyed fighting against Team Galactic and Team Plasma?

And of course there's team rocket.
"We're blasting off again!"

Honestly, I feel Pokemon Go is just a cheap spin-off and can never truly compare to the legendary awesomeness of the original series. I played it, but was sorely disappointed due to having higher expectations. You just walk around, and tap your screen. No real challenge, no plot, and no story. What a huge letdown.
Is there any other nairalander here who grew up with Pokemon games or am I once again alone in the quest to be the very best? grin

You have to admit that on this site we have some of the weirdest monikers/usernames you could possibly find. Some are straightforward while others are downright ridiculous. And of course, we always have those monikers that you have no idea what they are supposed to mean.

My moniker is based on what was my Favorite Pokemon as a child, as well as the legendary lucky number of the infamous British Secret Agent, James Bond.

Though some monikers like "Seun" are easy to understand where it came from, others like lalasticlala leave us baffled with the meaning. (I really want to know what lalasticlala means grin)

So tell me nairalanders, what inspired your unique, cute and/or funny names that we have all come to know you by?

It's true that christian dogmas and doctrines are largly spread by fear of hell and reward of heaven but not all xtians buy these stories. So without haven or hell, xtianity might still exist.
Are you referring to Jehovah's witnesses? I am not knowledgeable about their doctrines and practices, but I assumed that they also believed in heaven and a form of purgatory?

Christianity EtcIf There Was No Heaven And No Hell, There Would Be No Christians by Lucario007(op):
How true do you think this is?
Most christians are acting as Christians simply due to their fear of hell and their promise of a sweet after life. Basically its a carrot and stick mentality, promising you the sweet carrot once you complete your deeds, but punishing you with the stick if you fail to adhere to the rules.

theists and atheists alike, what is your opinion?

Final Day
Being the first to respond to a fatal car accident is always the most traumatic thing I see as a police officer. But today, when the crushed body of the little dead child boy strapped in his car seat opened his eyes and giggled at me when I tried to peel him out of the wreckage, I immediately knew that today would be my last day on the force.
