very funny, that you consider it outdated does not change the fact that its true and does not mean that every other person considers it outdated
I hate being blunt or seeming like the bad guy, but either you are extremely naïve or you simply have a lot of empty hope in you.

Let's face facts. This current up and coming generation is the worst and will be the worst set of humans yet, not only are they spoiled and rotten, they have grown more immoral and arrogant with time.
In High Schools overseas, you can find 14 - 18 year olds who have sex easily as though its nothing to them. By the age of 21, you'll be hard pressed to find a virgin amongst them.
They are growing up with the internet and with access to things they shouldn't have, when we were kids, if we were bored, we played hide and seek and ten-ten with my friends. These days, if kids are bored, they take out their iPads or Laptops and start surfing the net.
Face it, in a matter of years, the bible and it's preachings will become outdated because the generation of that time will no longer regard it at all. undecided

holla0404:
Sex is a covenant between a married man(not boy) and a married woman(not girl), before GOD as their witness. Therefore, sex is much more than an expression of love. GOD is not pleased with sex that is outside the corridors of marriage. HE is not pleased with sex before marriage in the name of love(known as Fornication), neither is HE pleased with sex outside marriage in the name of love(known as Adultery). Several people have given in to sex before marriage(Fornication) and sex outside marriage(Adultery) because the other person claims to love them. Please listen my dear friends; Sex can either be an expression of love or lust, so it is not a factor to determine whether he or she loves you.

Some other people believe that relationship without sex is boring. This is big lie from the pit of hell to destroy destinies. True lovers naturally find fun in being with each other, they are always eager to be with each other, they feel free to play with each other like little children, throwing all courtesy and maturity to the wind. So, if you are always feeling bored around him or her, or if sex is the only means through which you have fun together, then it is a very clear indication that there is no true love between both of you, it is either lust or infatuation, but definitely not love. As a living witness and a proud runner of the most fun-filled relationship in the world, I can assure you that you can have a sweet relationship without fornication.

Note; FORNICATION DISPLEASES GOD! YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DISPLEASE GOD BECAUSE SOMEONE CLAIM TO LOVE YOU. RATHER, BOTH OF YOU CAN PLEASE GOD TOGETHER AND ENJOY HIS BLESSINGS IN YOUR RELATIONSHIP.

Although i would agree with you about atheists being converts at some point in their lives, i disagree about the point in which you claim that its mostly due to a tragedy that changes their views.
Perhaps tragedy was too strong a word. Perhaps hardships or trials would be more fitting. But regardless, it has to be something fundamental in them which is affected that causes the radical change in beliefs.
RomanceOpinion: Move-in And Live With Your Spouse-to-be Before Getting Married by Lucario007(op): 9:09am On Jul 08, 2016
Here's something I realized not so long ago. People fan be friends, you can be best of friends, and you can even be lovers. But you will never truly know someone until you move in and live with them for an extended period of time.
This is how I almost ruined a good childhood friendship when my best friend and I became room mates in the university. We thought it would be good, but in the end, we just couldn't stand each others presence for so long. (We were both neat-freaks, but my friend's own was so extreme to the point of washing the bathroom everyday and mopping and sweeping the room every twelve hours. It was a mad obsession.)

So I am of the opinion that if you believe you truly love someone, try living with them for a while to see if you two can actually stand living together, cause once you say "I do" at the altar, that person becomes your "roommate" for the rest of your life.

There's no such thing as miracles. Why would a loving God chose just one HIV positive girl out of millions carrying the virus? Is her righteousness different from other people even infants who don't know sin who have died terrible deaths?

The idea of miraculous healings are more the reason why I'll refuse to believe in the religious sense of Gods. Such arbitrariness is nothing short of criminal.
That's just sad bro. Your perspective is just sad. So because one person was healed whereas millions have died, you feel it was an injustice?

So if she had died with the rest, would you have felt justified that it is better for her to die like others because there is nothing special about her?
Sad bro.

If he's homophobic or not, he's still an atheist

A theist is someone that has belief in a god or gods

Cut the long story
Sadly the op is seemingly just seeking ways to connect so called "Christian" traits with atheism.
She might has well as said, "Do atheists hate theft and murder? But in the bible God also condemns it! Aren't you supposed to be against God, so why do also condemn what God has condemned?"
EducationRe: Why Is Pidgin English Not Taught Officially In Nigeria? by Lucario007(m):
Donbrig:
I've been wondering how a language like pidgin English that is widely spoken all over Nigeria is yet to be officially taught as a subject in our learning institutions. I think it is high time we take pidgin English to a very high level and polish it a bit. Even our politicians use it often during campaigns and some other African countries also speak pidgin English. Sometimes, I wonder how the western world would have packaged and polish pidgin English if it were to be their language.
This article annoys me slightly as someone who read English.
Anyone who spent a moderate amount of time studying English in the university or borrowing a course from English would easily be able to explain it to you. Back then, we inquired the same question to our lecturers, "why isn't pidgin the official language of Nigeria?"

First, in order to get some facts right, let me tell you now that "pidgin" or "broken" or "vernacular" is NOT a "language". (As a matter of fact, calling it so in an English lecture room back then was the fastest way to annoy our lecturer.)

If i recall correctly, in the stages of language formation, there are:
Pidgins
Creoles
Languages

Now Pidgin is a regional and social variety derived from the proper British English in which it's main use was as a language of commerce and limited communication. In other words, ALL forms of pidgin exists because it was REQUIRED for colonial masters to communicate with their slaves (I.e. us), and as such they invented a bastardized form of the language which was aptly utilized for that purpose.
It was only after the colonial rule that certain countries still utilized the pidgin, most usually due to their lack of proficiency in the proper British English.

Nigerian Pidgin borrows words heavily from other varieties, lacks unique phonological, orthographical, lexical and syntactical cohesiveness, and it is a primitive form of language which only exists today due to its ease of accessibility to Nigerians as a neutral ground of communication between all the different tribes. The Nigerian Pidgin cannot become a language because there are several different varieties of it as spoken according to their users, with each tribe impacting their own signature on the way they use it.

Before the Nigerian pidgin can be considered worthy enough to stand on its own as a language, it needs to undergo several steps and then evolve to become a creole and then undergo even MORE steps before we can even think of calling it a language.

But so far, the chances of that happening are very, very slim.

So in short: bros, abeg fashi that pidgin jawe and go learn beta thing, cause as i dey see am ba, na d correct English sweet pass for mouth. grin

RomanceRe: Here Are 8 Signs Of A Cheating Spouse by Lucario007(m): 1:37am On Jul 08, 2016
Easiest way to know if your spouse is cheating on you: Anonymously send flowers and/or chocolate to his/her workplace, make sure he/she doesn't know its from you.

If he/she is loyal, they'll bring it back home with them because they have no doubt that only you could send it.

If he/she is not loyal, they won't bring it back home because they feel that it could be from their secret lover, and would not want to risk you asking questions.

If u don't believe in the existence of God and u hate the concept of homosexuality pls can I see ur tongues out! tongue..
People who are homophobic may or may not have very little to do with religion. Whilst in Islamic countries it is understandable, In several other countries in the world with massive numbers of unreligious people we still have cases where homosexuality is banned.
Its a choice quite frankly, some atheists/agnostics are close-minded people who are so insecure about their sexuality so they despise the concept of homosexualism because they fear that they could become gay if they started to accept it.
On the other hand, there are Christians and people like me who are confident enough in out sexuality that we have no fear or hatred for our fellow human beings simply due to their choice of sexual orientation.
Or, simply because a thousand year old book tells us that they are evil.

My stand on religion is shaky because there are so many thousands of "gods" out there. A Muslim would argue that Allah is the origin of the miracle, and others would claim Buddha, or Apollo or some other 'god'.
But beside the point, must you attribute the beauty of everything to something else? If you are starving for days and someone puts food on your table, would you start asking "who cooked the food" and "where did the food come from" or would you not simply be grateful to whatever source it came and start eating?

Christianity EtcRe: All Atheists, Why Did You Become An Atheist? by Lucario007(m): 12:41am On Jul 08, 2016
Hmm... I used to be an atheist, but I'm more mellow about it and I'm an agnostic now. Or something similar.

I don't believe in the possibility of religious Gods, but I'm not arrogant enough to claim that there is absolutely nothing out there in the vast universe possessing the potential power to make the impossible possible.

A common trend I notice is that most atheists become atheists due to a certain tragedy that occurs in to us in our lifetime. Something so fundamentally groundshaking that you begin to realize the unfairness of religion and its practices, just as Seun kindly elaborated for us.

You see, beliefs are strong and hard to change, so are opinions. The only way for one to change their beliefs must be due to a strong traumatic event. Most of us were Christians or Muslims because we were born into the religion, but realizing the fact that had it not been pounded into your head as a child, you would not be a Christian is something that you can only do when certain experiences have forced you to reevaluate your life and choices.

However, just as theists are not perfect, Atheists are also not perfect, as some atheists are only atheists and trolls because they blame all their problems on religion or because they wish to have an excuse to life immoral lives. And then they come online to blatantly attack other religions instead of putting up valid and logical arguments. I really, really despise these types.

Honestly, if someone wishes to believe in religion I feel you should let him, just as long as they don't shove it down your throat or be hypocritical about it.

Just don't mix religion and politics or have it play any roles in the state, because that's when you realize the danger of several thousand ignorant religious fanatics declaring massive wars in the name of conquest and having policies that diminish human rights.
Christianity EtcAtheist To Agnostic: The Experiences That Shapes Your Views by Lucario007(op): 12:15am On Jul 08, 2016
Before you theists chop me raw, allow me to first say that as of now, I'm more or less an agnostic (though I use this term loosely) even though at first I believed myself to be a firm atheist.

Also To Theists: Please note, atheists and agnostics are not the way we are because we are looking for a way to validate "sinful" living. Rather, anyone who considers himself an atheist and goes around drinking, smoking and commiting vices is nothing but a pathetical shell of a human being with no purpose of existence.

Back to my topic: As I have come to observe, most Nigerian atheists were not born atheists, but rather had an experience in time which made them distort their view of religion and begin to see its flaws and dangers. This is sometimes mostly due to a tragedy.
Here is my own story:
When I was younger, I believed strongly in the word of God, in christ, I was even a "draw-your-sword" champion in my Sunday school because I had memorized verses so aptly It would only take me seconds to find pages and recite them. grin

But then, when I was nine, tragedy struck in the death of my father. I had of course prayed and prayed when he was in the hospital, fasted and fasted and did all I could to believe that God would heal him.
God didn't heal him.
When he died, my life took a turn for the worse and my mother now had the burden of taking care of all my siblings.
I became embittered.
I asked myself, why couldn't God, who was all powerful and all knowing answer the desperate plea of a nine year old child? Had I wronged him? Had I not been faithful to him? What had I done to deserve misfortune?
In time, my faith waned. I stopped praying as feverently and instead as I grew older, I became more inquisitive. I started asking more and more questions, started realizing little things in the bible that were wrong, started shifting away from faith and I started reading the bible with logic.
Then one day at a home fellowship with a pastor, I asked the question, "God is all powerful, so why doesn't he simply vanquish all evil from the earth?"
Of course I received answers such as "do not question the ways of the lord" and others, which proved to only be diversions because none of them had the answers.
Finally, I turned to the internet in search of some answers. But instead of getting answers, all I found was more questions, and more contradictions.
Then, I found the book titled "The God Delusion". I am fairly certain most of you are familiar with it's rather infamous quotes.
Upon reading it, I began to despise Christianity and religion as whole and it didn't take long before I came to the ultimate conclusion that there was no such thing as God.
I went around probing religious arguments and have even convinced my share fair of people into disbelieving in god as well, and making them open minded to the problems of dogmatism and religious bigotry.

Of course I said that I am agnostic now, how this happen?
I met someone who was a Catholic, studying medicine in the university. She was a firm believer and could counter me argument for argument, without being offended at my disregard of something she believed in strongly.
It baffled me, most theists are so blinded by their belief that if confronted with contrary evidence, they become angry and defensive. She wasn't like that. She was open-minded and actually listened to my arguments before attempting to prove points of her own.
What sealed the deal was when she had introduced me to an acquaintance of hers who was battling HIV/AIDS due to improper screening of blood. She was bedridden at the time and was still a firm believer. She sat down, they prayed, and they talked. Till today it still shames me that I kept my distance due to fear of not wanting to get infected.

About three months or so later, this girl who studied medicine but convinced me to follow her to a certain church. Despite being catholic, we went to a Pentecostal Church on her decision.
Then that was where I saw her friend, who had been given two weeks to live, come out and deliver a shocking testimony that she had gone from HIV positive to negative.
Of course you can imagine the amount of shock such a declaration would make.
I wanted to yell "bullshit" out loud, but instead I sat and stared like someone who had slapped in the face with a catfish.
I kept thinking "its impossible, there is no cure for HIV" yet, my own two eyes were seeing this impossibility.
I was stumped.
This probably sounds like a fairy tale to you, yes? That is exactly how I felt as my mind formulated multiple theories for how she miraculously got better. But she hadn't been taken overseas, she hadn't been given any different treatments. So how did I explain what amounted to a miracle?
So then, I began thinking, "what if miracles are possible?" What if there is truly something out there beyond our understanding?
My mind went from thinking "there is no god" to "there might be the possibility of something out there beyond our comprehension."

So this is how my experiences changed me from being a devout Christian, to being a firm Atheist, to being wherever or whatever I am right now, which is somewhere in the middle.

I am not trying to attribute miracles to any religious deity, but I just feel, with how entirely vast the entire universe is, that it is not impossible for a being, or a force or something to exist which can alter reality and make the impossible become possible.

Thank you for reading this, and feel free to leave your own opinions, and share any experience of yours which has helped shape who you are today. smiley

viceric677:
Is Christianity a selfish religion? Do we tell people to repent because we ourselves want to make heaven or because we want the person to make heaven? Or both? (I doubt). The way Christianity is practiced makes me compare it with students preparing for exams: no student studies for another. Each individual study because they want to pass.
I know I will get flamed for this, but yes. I believe Christianity is a selfish religion. Think about it, if you honestly and truthfully knew that there were no heaven or if there was no hell, do you really think there would still be Christians?

People turn to religion because they fear damnation, Africans are so deeply rooted in spiritualism that we believe there is a great evil coming after us, we believe that there is the dark side of the force filled with the devil and his demons and their agents, and that there is the light side filled with God and his angels.
To us, God is the good guy promising eternal life and happiness, and the devil is the villain who doesn't want us to achieve it. So they join God's army, believing in him, praying, and hoping that all their deeds on earth will help in sowing their seeds for eternal enjoyment when they die.
Do you really think your pastor TRULY cares about you as a person? Hell no. In his mind, he is converting you to Christianity as a token, as a price he is paying, he has 'won a soul' not because he cares about you, but because he believes he is guaranteeing himself a nice comfy mansion in heaven.
Let's face it people, deep down to the roots, Christianity and basically all religions are selfish because all everyone cares about is getting themselves to heaven so they do not suffer hell.

I grew up in a neighborhood filled with Muslims. In my class, there were 12 Muslim boys and only two non Muslim guys.
So far as I've seen, Muslims are the same as everyone else. They eat the same way we eat, laugh the same way we laugh, cry the same way we cry, love the same way we love, and die the same way we die.

I'm currently agnostic in that I don't care about religion eitherway, but while I was still a devout Christian, I never understand people's irrational hatred of Muslims.

Statistically, there are no fewer than 1.7 billion muslims world wide. Just pause and think about the number, if all muslims were terrorists, the world would be engulfed in flames within days.

The Al Qaeda and Boko Haram and ISIS make up less than 0.4 percent of Muslims in the world. And because of that less than 0.4 percent, you ostracize the remaining 99.6 percent.

That's like saying because you were attacked by a pack of Chihuahua, you will now go on a world journey to hate and kill every dog in existence. Just imagine how asinine that sounds, yet people don't get it. They just don't get it. undecided

Now I'm not here to argue about that, but rather to clear up a misconception I spotted in this post.
ValentineMary:
Ironically one of the attributed writers of ur gospel (Luke) was a physician. And OP the snake sign is not a cult sign ooo in fact it was gotten from the story of Moses when God told Moses to make a bronze serpent.

Christians on nairaland would not kill me with laughter.
This bothers me more than it should, but I hate when things are attributed to the wrong sources, and the same thing occurs multiple times in that thread.

Please let me clear this up: the Medical symbol did NOT originate from the biblical tale of Moses and the serpent, but rather it has existed for years before then. It is often connected, but it is not the root source.

Allow me to clarify.

The image of serpents wrapped around a staff is a familiar one in the medical field, decorating pharmaceutical packaging and hospitals alike. Snakes bites are generally bad news, and so the animal might seem ill-fitting as the symbol of the medical profession, but the ancient emblem actually has a quite a story behind it.

It's actual name is The Rod Of Asclepius.
The Rod of Asclepius takes its name from the god Asclepius, a deity associated with healing and medicinal arts in Greek mythology.
As a matter of fact, the original Hippocratic Oath began with the invocation "I swear by Apollo the Physician and by Asclepius and by Hygieia and Panacea and by all the gods ..."
Asclepius derived his name from healing soothingly and from deferring the withering that comes with death. For this reason, therefore, they give him a serpent as an attribute, indicating that those who avail themselves of medical science undergo a process similar to the serpent in that they, as it were, grow young again after illnesses and slough off old age; also because the serpent is a sign of attention, much of which is required in medical treatments. The staff also seems to be a symbol of some similar thing. For by means of this it is set before our minds that unless we are supported by such inventions as these, in so far as falling continually into sickness is concerned, stumbling along we would fall even sooner than necessary.

Of course some of you might feel that this is hogwash and that your versions of the origin with Moses is better, but the fact remains that Greek Mythology is at least 5000 years old where as the Bible is just 2000 years old, thus making the Greek Origins more likely to be the more factual of the two.
This however does not make medicinal practices or the symbol "cultist" or anything of the sort, as many things in modern everyday life are based on Greek/Roman/Pagan mythology, from your months of the year to even your days of the week (January for instance is named after the god of beginnings Janus, and Thursday is supposedly named after Thor).

Also, please note that the correct medical symbol is with one snake on the rod, not two. If it has two snakes, then you have mixed it up with the Rod/Staff of Hermes.

Thank you for reading, and I hope the mods will help this reach front page in order to educate and enlighten more people so as to prevent them from making the mistake.

Christianity EtcHonest Questions For Christians And Atheists Alike by Lucario007(op): 12:48am On May 16, 2016
To get straight to the point, I'm sort of a freethinker that neither conforms nor bends to any particular side.
I'm not exactly an atheist because I feel it would be presumptuous of me to suppose with my limited knowledge that there is no greater force in the universe beyond my understanding, and yet at the same time I find it asinine to spend my Sundays praising the figures of Jewish lore as divine beings of fact and truth.

Either way, here are some questions I've been wondering for those of you Christians:

1. If Nigeria was never colonized by the white man, and the religion was never brought to Africa, would you believe honestly, that you would be a christian today?

2. If you were born in a non-christian household, and as such were not indoctrinated into christianity, would you still believe that Christ is your one true lord and saviour?

3. Do you believe that God created the world, or that mankind evolved to become who and what we are now?

A.If you believe that god created the world, are you aware of any scriptures referencing the creation of the other planets?
B.If you believe that mankind evolved, does that not cancel out the story of creation, of Adam and Eve, of the original sin and therefore make Christ's decision to die on the cross pointless?

4.If you were told, with utmost certainty, that there was no heaven and that there was no hell, would you still be a christian and would you still go to church?

And to the Atheists:

1.Do you simply dismiss the possibility of the Religious Gods and miracles, or do you feel that there is absolutely no possibility of the existence of any form of supernatural force in the vastness of the universe?

A.If you do feel so, what makes you so certain, that as a mere human with limited intelligence and lifespan, you can claim that there is no supernatural force in existence when you will live for less than a fraction of the time the earth has been in existence?

2.Why do most of you treat theists as though they are mentally incompetent, and simply cannot understand to let them believe what they wish to believe?

3.And lastly, most atheists claim that the theory of intelligent design is wrong, if so, then why can we not explain the discovery of overwhelmingly beautiful works of art naturally occurring such as the uniqueness of a Snowflake's shape and the arts of a butterfly's wings? Do you truly believe such beautiful works can occur naturally or by accident?

Reasonable answers please. Thank you.

Sentimentality aside, it is not the business of the government to cater for the needs of a couple who realized that they can not fend for themselves or their children. They did not think about the possibility of having to take care of children when the heat got to much at night and they decided to pleasure themselves, but now only come crying afterwards.

I'm surprised the government even gave them that much. undecided

Fascinating. This is indeed a weird but highly unique culture and tradition. The girls live in paradise like gods when their young, but as soon as they reach puberty they return to a normal life... Hmm... It would be difficult to adjust though.

do not mock another man for his beliefs, if someone were to come here now and say that Jesus was a zombie or Mohammed was a warlock everyone would attack that person.

Simply because you do not understand it, does not mean you should condemn it. undecided

147 Students??! Killed by just FIVE men?
Are these people even human??
R.I.P to the deceased.

Hell is too merciful for the likes of these murderers. They deserve nothing less than being put on a stake and killed slowly with radioactive emission. They should be subjected to having thier flesh carved out with lasers until not even the nucleus of an atom of their cells is left to bury. angry
