OKOWA: THE COPY AND PASTE GOVERNOR. A Costly Mistake Deltans Made.. In my observation, if Okowa does not reflect on his past decisions and retrace his steps in the remaining two years of his administration, I fear the youths in Delta state may stone him. This shouldn’t come as a shock or surprise, as the #EndSars protest has blown away the dust that had blinded the youths for many years, hence, making them see reasons with the warnings I had previously preached on several occasions. You can’t govern modern society with analogue ideas. This is a digital age and everything must be digital. You can not govern modern society with analogue ideas. This is a digital age; hence, everything must be digital. With facts, I firmly stand on the ground that Okowa has never conceived any project or scheme with his intellect. All he does is play the role of a ‘copycat’ in which he gathers from the strategic ideas and auspicious plans of successful governors from other states without considering the after-effects of such self-centered decisions and how it may impact the life of Deltans. It is for this reason I call him COPY AND PASTE GOVERNOR in this post. Before I proceed, I would love to clear the air that I do not in any way harbor hate for his person. However, I see a person who so superfluously sugar-coats his analogue ideas with grammar and alluring words. This he does with so much flair when in reality, he lacks the developmental ideas applicable to 21st-century development. I would also love to pen this down that my intention to come forth as a governorship candidate in the 2019 elections was not an act of financial buoyancy. Nevertheless, seeing the anguish and pain in the life of the Deltans, I thought it wise to purchase the governorship form. It was indeed saddening as I watched my votes being bought with money. It is also vital I point out that I am not the type of person who believes in bringing out money for the sake of buying votes. My true intention is to liberate you and your children from suffering with my ideas and resources for electioneering expenses to enable you to live a just and comfortable life. Yet, you want me to pay you N3,000 to vote for me? No! I can’t do that and will never do that in the future. I can only pay for logistics and other necessary expenses the way it is done in the advanced world, and that’s all. To further prove my point, recently a ‘Truck Driver' in New Jersey won a Senate election after Spending only $153 on campaign funds. This shows that money does not win elections in advanced parts of the world but true and legitimate vision does. Deltans have to learn from that and not repeat such mistakes in the forthcoming 2023 elections. It is true that Okowa would rather dance to the praises offered by those we call the ‘OH YES MEMBERS’ in our meetings. This is no mere fact with shallow evidence, as I personally have met him in person as well as written to him on several occasions through his senior political adviser, Ochonogor and Funkekeme Solomon as we were informed by him the day we met him after 2019 election to offer him modern ideas, but all I got in return were his usual sweet words and bogus grammar. He promised us then he will run all-inclusive governance but till date he never did. I wonder where he got the name “Ekwueme” if he cannot fulfil promise he made in public. I even singlehandedly sponsored a team of governorship candidates to have a meeting with him which we did successfully. The meeting had present, his Senior political Adviser (Ochonogor) and himself, but Okowa seems uninterested in the development of Delta state amid massaging his ego by answering to the name ‘road master,’ with so much dexterity, when 80% of the roads across the state still remains substandard. In my observation, trying to imbibe visionary ideas and strategic planning to the Okowa administration is an effort in futility as long as you cannot assist in carting away ballot boxes and helping him do some untidy jobs. However, In the real sense, you do not need much money to develop a society, all you need are ideas which in all indication seems Okowa greatly lacks to the detriment of Deltans. Dubai for example, is not that money was not used but ideas played a major role in their development not just money. Visionary leaders did the magic. Okowa can govern Delta State subnationaly if he has the ideas needed for development. Imagine a governor who sits down and watches more DESOPADEC projects being sited in private universities than you could ever find inside a whole local government. Isn’t this a clear indication that the state is now the private property of some individuals in the state, and the leader lacks developmental ideas? It was even rumoured that some people allegedly collect as much as N100Million monthly from DESOPADEC for settlement. Imagine giving out N100Million to over 100 persons every month for settlement. How can there be development in such a state? In my community, my paternal home Inyi in Ndokwa East local government area of Delta state and maternal home Aradhe in Isoko North local government area, I cannot remember any project that has been executed by this state government in the last 10 years, and so it is in many other communities across the state; and that to me, is unacceptable! If you have travelled around the state, especially Ndokwa East and Burutu area, you will find that people are indeed really suffering in this state. Go round many parts of Ndokwa, Isoko, Urhobo, Ijaw and Itsekiri nation, you may cry and even ask yourself if really these are parts of Delta State that prides itself as an oil rich state. Imagine people that have a lot of resources in their soil drinking from the same water they defecate in, this Is totally inhumane and shouldn’t be taken light-heartedly. Deltans needs to wake up and ask questions! Imagine the state capital, Asaba where street lights cannot be relied on due to its instability and too often fluctuations. All this in an oil rich state? Even worst, Some streets can go for days without the street lights being powered on. To further add to that, the storm drainage project has failed! I think he needs to visit some parts of Onitsha in the neighbouring Anambra state to see how storm drainage is done. This is indeed a shame to first time visitors in the state. It is only Mrs. Mrakpor and few other persons he appointed that have put in a little work to bring change, but I understand they were not given a free hand at the end of the day. Asides that, 95% of other appointees are ‘O YES CABINET MEMBERS’. Take for instance an ordinary flyover that other state governments utilize as first project once they assume office took Okowa 6 years before initiating one at koka junction Asaba after 6 years of prosperity and a Stronger Deltan slogan he has been singing since he assumed office as governor. Also, the Delta Line Transport Service he inherited is almost dead, after which he handed it over to yet another near incompetent Private firm to manage. The Airport has been handed over to concessionaire as well. This shows the lack of basic management skill by this administration. As a result of Okowa’s copy and paste leadership style which is definitely taking a rough path since its inception, many businesses are folding up in Delta State. This can be visibly seen especially in Asaba, the state capital that thrives mostly in the hospitality industry; which is as result of Okowas’ inability to build industries that will see to it that the youths are employed as well as have a legitimate source of sustenance. As a matter of fact, The only job a youth can easily find in Asaba with a meagre pay is a hotel job, thereby making most girls and boys that are not even interested in working in a hotel, forced to apply because there are little or no other jobs available to them; and certainly no idea on how to create such in the nearest future. It is with deep sadness that I put this out that the lack of employment has forced many of our girls into prostitution and many boys to unimaginable crimes. During the outbreak covid -19 pandemic, the ill-effect of his administrative skills was greatly felt. As a copy and paste government, he copies everything being done by Lagos State government. I think him and some of his aides stayed glued to the Television such that they missed no announcement about safety precautions and steps which Lagos State was to take per time to be safe throughout the pandemic. This government copies everything. He could not for a time come up with his own idea for others to follow suit. At a time, the Federal government announced restriction of movement between 10pm and 6am, it took Okowa months to realise that some people depends on night business to survive and these people are many in their numbers. The same thing happened during the #EndSars protest when curfew was placed around 6pm to 8am without considering travellers and businessmen and women going to far distances. Even on 31st October 2020, he extended the curfew from 6pm to 8pm without a prior notice to the Nigerian Army and some other security agencies that were stationed at Shoprite area in Asaba about his ordeal to extend the time. They were still turning people back at 6PM; I got there around 6:40PM and I was telling the soldiers stationed there that the time has been extended to 8pm, they said I was just informing them now and they need to confirm from their boss. I was there for over 7 minutes before they started allowing vehicles to pass after making several calls to confirm the information I had passed to them. Does that not show incompetence in leadership and a gap between the government and its people? Throughout the vast expanse of Delta state, there is no project or scheme I have seen where the Okowa government have initiated with their own idea. Everything being done are ideas other states have implemented in the past 5 to 10 years. In my opinion, the giant state secretariat at Mariam Babangida Road with which his cabinet members utilize in singing choruses of their masters’ many achievement poses a very huge threat to the security. This isn’t my prayer, but just imagine piling up all the ministries' department and agencies in the same place and there is a similar unrest in the state as the past Peaceful #Endsars protest were hoodlums hijacked and vandalized government facilities. It means all the ministry and agencies in the state can collapse at once as a result of a copy and paste leadership style of Okowa administration. Better still, why not invest in the plethora empty lands in Asaba to build ministries and digitalize them so people can have access to services even from their homes, and not packing ministries together. I can only imagine the load on traffic during working days in that axis once the secretariat becomes fully functional. Okowa should brace up now. Sweet words and grammars does not bring meaningful development, but creative thinking which I stand for. Who Grammar help?!! It is a pity that the bank of River Niger around Asaba which can attract massive development and jobs to the youths in the state capital sits redundant due to the inability of the Okowas' administration to see potential. Many other things that ideas and not really money can do are all over Delta State but he fails to think towards these directions, all we hear is that there is no money but there is money to sponsor other state governors to win elections and do many other unprofitable and illogical personal investments. Many other states are opening their economies with huge industries in the likes of agro-value chain but ours in Delta is a smart agenda mantra that is not smart at all. The Kwale industrial Park he promised he will build, he ended by telling us Covid-19 stopped it while other states despite covid-19 are doing greater things more than the industrial park. - The 500 megawatts MoU he signed failed. - The renovation of 25 health center he signed MoU for is nothing to write home about today. Additionally - The MoU he signed for Commercial city to be built has not been fruitful till date. Now that all has been said and heard, let us put forth the conclusion of the whole matter here, Okowa should sit up and sit tight, bring sound minded individuals into his government, use capable hand and competent contractors in handling projects and rejects hand to hand project sign up. He should abort "Copy and Paste leadership, become a great leader for others to emulate. For without prejudice i score his administration 30% till we see better changes we desire. By: Hon. The Advance Congress of Democrats (ACD), Alliance Of Social Democrats (ASD), Change Advocacy Party (CAP), Save Nigeria Congress (SNC) and 70 other political parties have dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) to court over their exclusion from the parties to participate in the forthcoming Delta State local government elections slated for March 6, 2021. In an originating summons with suit case file No FHC/ASB/CS/4/21, filed at the Federal High Court sitting in Asaba, Delta, by Kelechi Nnadi, counsel for the political parties, supported with affidavit deposed to by Lucky Dikadi, the state chairman of Change Advocacy Party (CAP) prayed the court for an injunction to compel the INEC and DSIEC (Ist and 2nd defendants) to cancel all primaries conducted in the state until their parties are included in the ballot. The 74 political parties who are plaintiffs in the case are seeking the court to determine, among other things "whether in the light of the judgement of the Court of Appeal, Abuja judicial division dated, 10 August, 2020 in Appeal No CA/ABJ/CV/507/2020, setting aside the deregistration of the plaintiffs and ordering the relisting of the plaintiffs, among others in the register of the political parties, the defendants can lawfully preclude the plaintiffs and their candidates from participating in the Delta State local government elections. "Whether having regard to the judgement of the Court of Appeal in Appeal No CA/ABJ/CV/507/2020, the Ist defendant is not obligated to relist the plaintiffs in the register of political parties in Nigeria to enable the plaintiffs exercise their powers under section 221 and 229 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended. "Whether the plaintiffs are not entitled to participate in the process, field candidates and canvass for votes in the forthcoming Delta State local government elections organised by the 2nd defendant, which is scheduled to hold on March 6, 2021." The plaintiffs prayed the court to, among other things, grant an order restraining the Delta State Electoral Commission (DSIEC) from conducting the March 6, 2021 local government elections in the state due to the exclusion of the political parties from the ballot. "A declaration that the refusal or neglect of the 1st defendant to relist the plaintiffs in the register of political parties is unlawful, unconstitutional and constitutes a breach of the plaintiffs' rights protected under section 40 and 221 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended. “A declaration that it is unlawful and unjustifiable for the 1st and 2nd defendants to exclude the plaintiffs from the processes and proceedings of the Delta State local government elections scheduled to hold on March 6, 2021, despite the judgement of the Court of Appeal in Appeal No CA/ABJ/CV/507/2020 dated the 10th day of August, 2020. "An order of injunction restraining the 1st defendant from releasing the register of voters to the 2nd defendant for the purpose of the conduct of local government elections in Delta State unless and until the names of the plaintiffs are relisted into the register of political parties." In his submission on Thursday, counsel for the political parties, Kelechi Nnadi, told the court that he only got an application late Wednesday from E. F. James-Oru, counsel for DSIEC, 2nd defendant, and needed time to study and respond. He pleaded with the court to adjourn the matter. The presiding judge, Federal High Court, Asaba, Justice T. B. Adegoke, after listening to the plaintiffs’ counsel, adjourned the case till February 15, 2021 for hearing. http://saharareporters.com/2021/01/28/74-political-parties-drag-inec-dsiec-court-stop-march-6-delta-council-polls

By Monday Osayande No fewer than 74 political parties in Delta State have dragged the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) to the Federal High Court sitting in Asaba, seeking an order to restrain the DSIEC from conducting the March 26 local government elections in the state over alleged unlawful exclusion of some parties from the ballot. In the suit No, FHC/ASB/CS/4/21 dated January 15, 2021, the Change Advocacy Party (CAP) and 73 other parties are seeking an injunction compelling the INEC and DSIEC to cancel all primaries conducted in the state until they are included in the ballot. One of the plaintiffs, Mr. Lucky Dikadi, chairman of the Change Advocacy party (CAP), and accompanied by Mr. Peter Emuakpoje, State chairman, of inter party Advisory council, yesterday told Jounalists in Asaba that the affected parties approached the court because of the refusal of the Delta government to heed the ruling of the Federal Court of Appeal, Abuja, that the parties should be added to the ballot. In the suit, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is listed as the 1st Defendant, while DSIEC is the 2nd Defendant. Lucky Dikadi, a governorship candidate in the 2019 governorship election in Delta state under the platform of Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), said the Appeal court had on 10th August, 2020, in a suit number, CA/ABJ/CV/507/2020, gave judgment that the affected parties be relisted into the register of political parties in Delta. “The plaintiffs are seeking among other things, a declaration that the refusal or neglect of the 1st defendant to relist the plaintiffs in the register of political parties is unlawful. “A declaration that it is unlawful and unjustifiable for the 1st and 2nd defendants to exclude the plaintiffs from the processes and proceedings of the Delta State LG elections scheduled for 6th March, 2021, despite the judgement of the Appeal court. “Also, an order of injunction restraining the 1st Defendant from releasing the register of voters to the 2nd Defendant for the purpose of the conduct of LGA elections unless and until the plaintiffs are relisted into the register of political parties in the state,” Lucky Dikadi said. https://deltapointer.com/community/politics/change-advocacy-party-ask-court-to-stop-dsiec-from-holding-delta-lg-election/ |

Deltapointer reports that strange occurrence struck in Obiaruku Delta State today 14th January 2021. AS SUSPECTED RITUALISTS ALLEGEDLY EXHUMED THE CORPSE OF LATE Mr. Godday Azuagholuoku WHO WAS A CRIPPLED HUNCHBACK BEFORE HIS DEATH. The residents of Dafe road, Ekeruche street and Umudike street in Obiaruku the administrative headquarter of Ukwuani LGA woke up this morning 14th of January 2021 to witness a strange occurrence that has never been experienced throughout the history of the community. Deltapointer reports that, Late. Mr. Godday Azuagholuoku was a crippled hunchback that worked as a bicycle repairer during his lifetime, he died sometime in October 2020 and was buried same month according to a family source. This morning, the residents of his compound where he lived all his life and residents of the neighbouring compounds woke up to discover that his graveyard which was outside close to the boundary between his compound and the neighbouring compound was no longer the way it was the night before today, as signs of the grave being touched by unknown persons during the night can be seen. At the entrance of the compound leading to where the grave was, were some spiritual sacrifices which show some sign of oil poured on the ground and something pinned at the centre, but whatever that was pinned at the centre is suspected to have also been removed by the culprits who carried out the atrocity. Some persons who are averse in traditional medicines told Deltapointer that what was pinned on the ground there is known in Ukwuani language as ' ogolodi' (which can cause the entire people within that vicinity to sleep throughout until it is unpinned from the ground), hence, despite the compounds surrounding the grave having many occupants, none of them was able to wake up throughout the night to hear the digging that lasted for not less than 2 hours. As at now, no one knows what exactly that was done to the corpse of the late Mr. Godday, because after the deed was done, the culprits partially covered the grave back. A cyclist in the community, Mr. Igwe Okoli, said said people of the area were this strange occurrence occurred are waiting for the family to know their next line of action, so that they can know exactly what was done to the body of the deceased, whether the entire corpse was removed or some body parts were removed. Why can't the living allow the dead to rest in peace, even in grave? https://deltapointer.com/ritualist-exhume-a-crumpled-hunchback-man-corpse-in-delta/

OMO-AGEGE LAMENTS DIVERSION OF 13% DERIVATION FUND BY OIL PRODUCING STATES The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has decried the diversion of the 13 percent oil derivation funds by oil producing states. Specifically, he made a case for 100 percent utilisation of the funds for oil-bearing communities, as against the practice where states release only 50 percent of the money to development commissions in their states. The Delta Central lawmaker noted that since host communities bear the burden of environmental degradation from the oil industry, it is only fair that all funds be channeled into the development of the affected areas. He made the remarks when he hosted a delegation of Oil and Gas Host Communities of Nigeria (HOSCON), led the Amayanabo of Twon-Brass in Brass Kingdom and Chairman, Bayelsa State Traditional Rulers Council, Chief Alfred Diete-Spiff. Senator Omo-Agege who chairs the Senate Adhoc Committee on Constitution Review, expressed regrets that the utilisation of the 13 percent derivation funds has become a political tool in the hands of state governors in the region. He said the diversion of the money has contributed gravely to the underdevelopment of the region as the affected communities can hardly boast of having access to the basic necessities of life. His words: "I have been discussing this matter with Chief (Wellington) Okrika even before I became a senator. It is fair that the 13 percent derivation is meant to ameliorate the conditions of the people who are most impacted by oil exploration and exploitation. That is the only reason this fund was set aside as a consequence of your agitation which you led for so many years. "These funds are not meant for the state governments. The state governments are meant to be purveyors to host communities. Even in states that have development commissions, they only earmark 50 percent of the funds to the Commission to manage on behalf of the host communities. So what happens to the other 50 percent? We have always taken the position from the outset that 100 percent of the funds is meant for the development of host communities because it is not every area that suffers from oil exploration and degradation. But for some reasons, it has become a political tool". He reiterated his call for gas flaring penalties in the Petroleum Industry Bill to be paid to the host communities and not to the Federation Account, stressing that the annual contribution of 2.5 percent actual operating expenditure by oil companies to the Host Community Development Trust Fund should be increased to, at least, 5 percent, adding that the penalties from gas flaring would be used to ameliorate the living conditions in Niger Delta communities, as they suffer from the environmental impact of oil exploration. "The reason we are insisting on at least 5 percent of operational expenses of oil companies for the host communities is because of the stability as their operational expenses will always remain stable. The moment you say it should be profit after tax, we know what they will do. They will claim all the exemptions that, at the end of the day, you end up with nothing. But they must have their expenses. So we are insisting that we should be given at least 5 percent of that. "We say this because in the cause of our interaction with the Economic Management Team of the Federal Government, some of us wanted answers to certain questions, most especially why they were making less revenue from oil. And one of the reasons they raised at the time was that the cost of oil per barrel was very high because of the security cost to the oil companies. "Under this PIB, if you give us what we are now asking for by way of enhanced contribution of 5 percent operational expenses to the Host Communities Trust Fund, what it means is that the communities will now assume responsibilities for the protection of the oil facilities in their host community. And if that is the case, the portion of the funds that the oil companies were spending as Security Cost should now be transferred to us," he added. On the proposed boards and management of Host Communities Trust Fund in the PIB, he emphasised the need for those in the host communities to be carried along. He called on the people in the region to show more than passing interest in the development of the area and hold their leaders accountable. Other lawmakers who assisted the Deputy President of the Senate in welcoming the guests include Senator Biobarakuma Degi Eremienyo (Bayelsa East), member of the House of Representatives representing Warri Federal Constituency, Hon Thomas Ereyitomi. In his earlier remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Niger Delta Matters, Senator Ita Enang, called on the Deputy President of the Senate to intervene in the N98 billion gas flare fund, the controversy surrounding the Pipeline Surveillance Contract, 13 percent derivation payment to oil producing communities and the need to pass a bill for the establishment of a Derivation Commission. According to him, the Niger Delta people should be engaged in the surveillance contract to give them a sense of belonging. He also lamented the absence of development commissions in Rivers, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom States. The same sentiment was shared by the Amayanabo of Twon-Brass in Brass Kingdom and Chairman, Bayelsa State Traditional Rulers Council, Alfred Diete-Spiff, the Bolowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Chief Wellington Okrika, HOSCON National Chairman, Prince Mike Emu and a host of others who spoke at the event. Other members of the delegation include High Chief (Prof) Jasper Jumbo, HRH King Samuel Nnee, Chief Emmanuel Anele, Princess Christy Ejeh among others. Yomi Odunuga, Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, to the Deputy President of the Senate. 5th November, 2020. http://deltapointer.com/general-discussion/omo-agege-laments-diversion-of-13-derivation-fund-by-oil-producing-states/

A Nigerian woman has made a passionate appeal to the Nigerian government to come to her rescue in Oman where she is being presently held in captivity. Najeeb Rukoyat Kemi, 28, from Ikire town in Osun State left for Oman in November 2016, to search for greener pasture after being talked into the deal by a close friend. However, upon arriving in the country her host seized her international passports and other vital documents then made her a housemaid. . Narrating her ordeal during an exclusive telephone chat with the President of Journalists International Forum For Migration (JIFORM), Ajibola Abayomi, the woman said within the last four years she has been resold four times to different masters where she worked as a housemaid on monthly stipends that was never paid in most cases. She claimed that she was traded off to her present master some months ago for 800 rials (N700, 000). Her current master placed on a monthly salary of N70,000 per month, however, she says she has been subjected to serious sexual harassment. "At the current house I am now working, the man wants to sleep with me but I have been refusing him so he told me to go back to the office that brought me to him. I am being starved of food and kept indoor without being allowed to go out. "I can no longer cope with this job so please I want to go back home. Kindly assist me. I have an Ordinary National Diploma from Offa Polytechnic; there are better opportunities in Nigeria. I am tired, all the money I have been getting I used to send it home to assist my younger ones" Kemi lamented. Reacting to the plight of the lady, the Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Julie Okah – Donli said she was deeply concerned and shared the pain and agony of the said victim through an interview granted by the agency’s Press Officer, Mr Adekoye Vincent. He said: "In line with its determination to continue to respond to the plight of victims, the agency solicits for information that will enable it to work with international and local partners with a view to rescuing her and ensuring her safe return to Nigeria." The JIFORM president said all the other vital information about the victim would be forwarded to NAPTIP for further action. "We won’t be tired of doing this all the time. Recall that between July and September this year JIFORM was instrumental to the call for the rescue of 138 Nigerian ladies trafficked to Saudi Arabia and additional 435 women also trapped in Yemen, Oman, Lebanon and other Arab nations. We shall provide her details as well as other ladies to the NAPTIP and follow up on the rescue mission ditto for the prosecution of the trafficking agency involved" Ajibola pledged. http://deltapointer.com/general-discussion/a-yoruba-lady-sold-four-times-in-oman-begs-nigerians-for-rescue/
