Israel copied SA. its not even debatable.
Israel did not copy the Patria/Badger. Most wheeled IFVs follow the same design philosophy. Look at Boxer, VBCI, Piranha, Boomerang etc.

Concerning the earlier debacle, to explain what I mean, the Embraer is a cost-effective close air support aircraft against semi-conventional enemies that lack air defenses, while the paramount is for counter terrorism and special operations. The Embraer is used in a regular CAS profile, with the mission fully planned out. The other guy is more suited to a dynamic environment. Don't have time to type long sentences so I hope the links below give you an idea of what I mean.

My opinion has always been to stay neutral in the geopolitical game, regardless if the intentions were good, we should've kept our noses out of it and focused solely on ourselves and fixing our problems, anyone with half a brain cell could've seen this coming hence well done ANC, you've pressured Israel and possibly helped the Palestinians to an extent, but to the expense(possibly) of your own people.
Do yourself a favour and go read the actual thing, not media reports about it. It's even more incoherent and nonsensical than the last failed one.

A refresher for all of us, on how a bill actually becomes law in the US:

1) referencing the bill as introduced by the US Congress is incorrect:
It's not a Congressional Bill. It's been introduced by two members of the House of Reps;
2) the next step would be for a committee to review the bill and either send it to the floor of the House for a vote, or kill it;
3) If the House of Reps ratifies it, it's then forwarded to the Senate for discussion and a possible vote;
4) If Senate does approve it, it then has to go to the President who can either ratify or veto it.

A process that could take years or not even see the light of day (A previous similar bill after the Lady R nonsense didn't even make it to step 2 above).

South Africans who don't like the direction of foreign and other policies under the ANC, must do the hard work of developing superior policies and persuading their fellow citizens to chuck out the incumbents.
The short cut of lobbying ideological mates in western legislatures, think-tanks and media is lazy, useless and reeks of political immaturity.

Republicans are now the majority in Congress... they're Israeli simps and of course, it's a scare tactic.
The bill, like the previous one, will not go anywhere.

So it turns out we are now deploying 3 battalions in the region.

...and of-course, I think it's not a great idea.
Rwandese radars and SAM have been spotted inside the borders of the DRC, supporting M23. They actually tried to shoot down an Italian Falco UAV, in service with the UN.

Things are going to get very interesting, all because Kagame was allowed to shelter these murderers, after they were defeated back in 2013.

The S-70I Black Hawk helicopter and the Bell 412 are options we can look at for medium lift.

Philippines bought the S-70 from Poland, 30 + units for 400+ million a couple of years ago.

We will not be able to buy Russian aircrafts for now.
And Airbus, with the various versions of the Super Puma?

Imagine an Orxy being shot down and crew killed or captured. Imagine the bad PR it would have on our military..

I say the S. African contribution to the DRC UN mission should be scrapped, we have done more than enough there, the country will never be fixed as long as Paul Kagame is still in the Rwandan leadership.
Well, the UN mission ends this year. And we've committed to a SADC mission (SAMIDRC) now that SAMIM in Moz is winding down.

This BS pisses me off. Almost a year to the day when a sniper shot at an Oryx in the DRC, injuring the pilot and killing Flight Sergeant Mabena, this happens.
The common denominator? Both aircraft were sent out without a pair of Rooivalk to provide top cover, as SAAF doctrine demands.

A South African Air Force (SAAF) Oryx medium transport helicopter was hit dozens of times by small arms fire while carrying out a casualty evacuation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Friday morning, with two crew injured.

SAAF sources indicate the aircraft (1247) from 22 Squadron was hit over 40 times while carrying out a medical evacuation, resulting in injury to the commander as well as a medic in the cabin. It is not clear who was firing at the helicopter, although it is suspected that M23 rebels were responsible.

The Oryx was badly damaged, with multiple rounds going through the cabin, cockpit, and main rotor blades, and causing damage to the hydraulic system.

The incident apparently occurred about 25 km north of Goma, and the crew managed to fly the aircraft directly to a Level 3 hospital (a fully equipped and staffed multidisciplinary UN field hospital).

Greenandgold, so yesterday afternoon I tell my woman I'm taking the dog out for a walk at Milnerton beach.
"But you hate Milnerton!"
I reply, "It's the closest beach where dogs are allowed to run freely."
I neglect to tell her AFB Ysterplaat is up the road and 2 Squadron and their Gripens are in town practicing for SONA. grin grin grin

The dog got her exercise, and the human got his fighter jet fix.

Today the wine industry in South Africa is 365 years old! South Africa is the only country that can pinpoint the exact starting date of its wine industry, thanks to a diary entry by Jan van Riebeeck on 2 February 1659: “Today, praise be to God, wine was made for the first time from Cape grapes.”

Decided to spend the afternoon behind Table Mountain, on the vineyards of Constantia, the oldest wine region in the country.
