GreenandGold, remember when I mentioned the Mechem MC-90 and said Denel should upgrade the vehicle, retain the 90mm and also equip some with their LCT-30mm turret? You responded with a 6x6 render you'd done. I'm even more convinced of the feasibility of the project, in 4x4 form, for the following reasons:
1) the need exists for a mobile, air-transportable fire support vehicle (unlike fangirls who just make wish-lists, one should always start by defining the role) ; -we phased out the Eland for the Rooikat, which is too big for a rapid deployment vehicle 2) with the Army having gone back to the brigade structure, the Light Airborne Brigade currently has only 120mm mortars as heavy support; -unless we take something like the Agrab 120mm mortar vehicle into the Light Airborne Brigade's ORBAT, there is still a mobility deficiency in how we use those 120mm mortars in such a highly mobile brigade 3) the 4x4 vehicle can easily be transported by the Herc C-130; -even if height isn't a problem, only 1 of your 6x6 can be transported by C-130 at a time, as opposed to 2 of the 4x4 -the SAAF can only field 2 C-130s at any given time, meaning as per our doctrine of a troop being 4 fire support vehicles, 2 flights can deliver a troop
My argument persuasive enough?
Pic 1: the MC-90, that we should modernise and adopt; Pic 2: the LCT-30 turret, that should be mounted on what would be the MC-30 Pic 3: the phased-out Eland; Pic 4: an example of the 6x6 as per your preference.

Odunayaw: 7 years on and it still stings that I had to forfeit my ambition to serve in the military
But why is a Colonel delivering such classes? I thought that was a Sarge's detail Great question. Was about to go and ask it there, but alas, asked and answered.

GreenandGold: You got a ticket in Argentina bro?.... damn, that's levels It was a lovely quiet country road, and my mate's super car was too inviting! My passport still had my residence permit from when I lived and worked there, so when they asked for a local address, I gave one. Thought of not paying it, but then there'd be a warrant against my name next time I wanted to go there. |

kabe1: No left wing, liberal messaging. Just a very excellent written, well acted movie. You clearly didn't read the book, Erich Remarque's "All Quiet on the Western Front" published in 1929. Its revolutionary depiction of the horrific reality of war, rather than the glamourous, sanitised version was regarded as "left wing, liberal messaging". It is not for nothing that the Nazis regarded it as treasonous, had the book banned and stripped Remarque of his German citizenship, causing him to flee first to Switzerland and ultimately the US. |

GreenandGold: I don't like how SANDF holds back operational pictures for that long and release them years later..... look how the Kenyans (in the DRC) and Rwandans (in Moza) are quick on the pictures, they win the PR wars and win public perception.
SANDF generals are still stuck with the Cold-War media mentality. Very true and very sad! Look at the SAMIM deployment in Moz: every single pic I've posted here has come either from the Botswana or Lesotho Defence Forces, or unofficially from SF members on social media.

GreenandGold: The Thai have fitted a remote turret for their Mbombe 4, it's official they'll be using it. Not yet. Still trials: DTI D-Lion is a Thai version of the Mbombe 4 mine-resistant armoured fighting vehicle unveiled at the Defense & Security 2022. The Defence Technology Institute has announced a partnership with South Africa firm Paramount Group, Thailand’s defence research and development (R& ) agency, and local partner Jatunapas, one of Thailand’s leading defence and security companies, to produce its advanced Infantry Combat Vehicle (ICV), the Mbombe 4, in Thailand. The Mbombe 4 completes the highly advanced Mbombe family of combat vehicles which have been designed to directly address the increasing demand for outstanding protection yet versatility in conventional and asymmetric warfare, counter-terrorism, and peacekeeping missions alike. Following assembly of the Mbombe 4 within Thailand, the next generation ICV is to undergo vehicle trials by the Thai Armed Forces and the DTI. |

It's a VT4 turret without it's armor modules installed + armor module on the floor. Armor is not very thick it seems, also these mounting holes in turret shows backplate is also not thick"
