For a change, went out to False Bay for some sailing today.

GreenandGold:Nope. I think a NATO country is replenishing inventories, after transferring their own previous stock to Ukraine. My guess, either Netherlands or Germany. By SA law, can't sell anything to either Ukraine nor Russia whilst they're at war. That's why a billion's worth of arms exports to Poland has been suspended. They need to give the assurance it won't be diverted to Ukraine. And yes, we're being absolute hypocrites about this: we continued selling to Saudi and the UAE knowing full well they were using those SA defence products in Yemen! |
Another NATO order for Rheinmetall Denel Munition! 19 Dec 2022 Major order from a NATO customer A long-time NATO customer awarded the South African subsidiary Rheinmetall Denel Munition a framework contract for the supply of 155mm ammunition of the proven Assegai product line. The order value is in the mid three-digit million EUR range. The framework agreement was concluded in December and has a term of five years. The five years framework contract provides for the delivery of 155mm M2005 V-LAP (Velocity Enhanced Long Range Artillery Projectile) projectiles, M92 modular charges and various fuzes. The 155mm M2005 V-LAP projectile features a high fragmentation effect as well as extended range through rocket and base bleed technology. The rocket assist V-LAP projectile together with the Assegai M92 tactical charges features barrel erosion and muzzle signature reducer properties. It is designed according to the NATO Joint Ballistics Memorandum of Under¬standing (JBMoU) requirements and qualified according to STANAG guidelines. The ammunition is already deployed in several NATO countries. “We are proud to support our long-time NATO partner with Rheinmetall‘s world leading long range artillery suite. Framework agreements provide long-term ammunition supply assurance and a flexible system for procuring ammunition over the course of a year”, stated Jan-Patrick Helmsen, CEO of Rheinmetall Denel Munition. “The rocket assist V-lap together with the tactical assegai charges M92 with barrel wearer reducer and muzzle flash reducer will support both the soldiers in the battlefield and the logistics and maintenance troops.” The M2005 HE V-LAP projectile is at the forefront of modern artillery technology and provides an extended range interdiction capability against soft targets and soft skinned vehicles as well as the disruption of logistical supply lines beyond the close battlefield. The M2005 projectile can be used with suitable NATO standard fuzes and JBMoU compatible modular charge systems and can be fired from any compatible 155mm weapon system. The base drag reduction and rocket assistance extend the range performance of Assegai with no special operational and logistical requirements. Jointly owned by Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH (51%) of Germany and Denel (Pty) Ltd, Rheinmetall Denel Munition produces a wide variety of ammunition such as 155 mm artillery ammunition, 60, 81 and 120 mm mortars, 40 mm grenades and 76/62 mm Naval Rounds, aircraft bombs and mine breaching systems. Rheinmetall Denel Munition also builds ammunition filling plants for export and manufactures missile subsystems. https://www.rheinmetall.com/en/rheinmetall_ag/press/news/latest_news/index_36928.php

Off-topic: the Cape Town shipyard, Southern Wind, lowered this baby onto the water yesterday. The 29.24m vessel marks a significant milestone for Southern Wind because it’s the fourth in the yacht builder’s SW96 series and crucially, its first hybrid. The client is a young owner on his third yacht and that he wanted a vessel that is sexy, comfortable, reliable and sustainable that he can not only use to compete in super yacht regattas but can also sail around the world. The HybridGen powertrain provides zero emission propulsion during sailing and can keep the yacht electrically powered when at anchor. When the sails are unfurled and the boat is crossing the ocean, the wind power can recharge the lithium-ion energy storage system. It also includes a tender garage for a small boat or jet skis and there’s an 8.5 square metre swimming platform so the owner, his family and their guests can enjoy time moored in a quiet lagoon. The interior will feature a forward owner’s cabin, two sumptuous guest cabins and crew quarters as well as an aft galley. The main saloon has been designed to be light and spacious and there will be a large entertainment saloon with a television and space for guests to relax after a day’s sailing. All of the owner’s previous boats have been called Nyumba, a Swahili word meaning “house” or “home". The entire project is rumoured to have cost EURO15 million, according to my sailing instructor.

GreenandGold:So do others. But you're right: Boogertman may possibly have a higher profile in Kenya than the others, and I'm over-thinking it. |
NTSA:Out of hundreds and hundreds of archy firms in SA, why did you choose Boogertman? |
Nemesis4you:Agni V? |
GreenandGold: ![]() You should move to Cape Town, we are always on holiday! |

GreenandGold:We both agree the SANDF is underfunded, but, well nigh impossible to convince Treasury to allocate more money when the AG says you're careless even with the little you have.
|
GreenandGold:You seem fixated with this R3.5bn pocket change from American taxpayers. If the wankers pretending to run our country actually did their fucking jobs and husbanded properly our hard-earned taxes, we wouldn't be arguing over this embarrassing pittance/charity. From the latest AG reports, yours and my money frittered away (I haven't even included the crime scene that is SOEs:
|
GreenandGold:How much do the corrupt incompetents piss away every year, across the board? Read the AG reports and weep. We as taxpayers are not getting bang for our buck. And yes, R3.5bn in a R1.2trn budget is an accounting rounding error. |
GreenandGold:"without USAID, it would be very expensive since it's a large program" This is what I quibble with. R3.5bn is a pittance when looking at the total health budget. Our problem is not shortage of funds, it's wastage of funds. Hell, just this week Tembisa Hospital alone is in the news for pissing away R1 billion. |
GreenandGold:Not true actually. PEPFAR, the US programme for ARVs, covers 15% of SA's total spend for HIV drugs. 85% comes from our hard-earned taxes. That's why when Trump tried to say in 2017 that the funds couldn't be used in facilities that also provide abortion services, Minister Motsoaledi could tell them to go jump with their conditions, as 85% is self-funded. |
Nemesis4you: ![]() Told her Congress would never win another election as long as it's treated as a family heirloom! She walked away and didn't speak to me the entire evening! |

NTSA:Nothing to do with PR. Is there a market for TELCOS to invest their money? In my opinion, Kenya definitely has the market. I've now looked at our internal research and based on the corporate and FTTH uptake, regulatory improvements etc, Kenya should see nation-wide 5G coverage by Q1 2024. |
GreenandGold:Yeah, got into the ether cos of Vodacom paying ZAR48 Billion for an Egyptian telco, for which my company was part of the deal's financial originators. Months ago I alluded to it with my travels. Kenyan FTTH penetration is amongst the highest on the continent, about 4th or 5th. We're currently advising all our clients in TELCO planning to invest in the rest of the continent to look at Kenya, Ghana, Tunisia, Mauritius and Egypt as primary markets. |
Nemesis4you:Apparently, deployed is contingent on % of national coverage. For example, some Ind... states have launched, majority have not. Affects ranking. Then again, this is STATISTA and June 2022. Btw, did I ever tell you about my encounter with Priyanka Gandhi, of a dinner party in London about a decade and a half ago? ![]() |
Kikuyu1, NTSA, Stargate254, Karis1 and other Kenyans: I thought you guys had also launched 5G? Any idea of the timelines for launch, as I see you've deployed the tech.
