davefurn: How many of the grains went to africa, 90% went to Europe, only gave grains to feed 1.5million people that US caused with her backing the tiggray rebels This is not charity; place your orders. Egypt and the Horn have received grain. Now tell me which other African countries depend heavily on Ukrainian grain? I'm rather more interested in the insult of the president of a 3rd world country in eastern Europe thinking he "guarantees" food security for an entire continent. |

Odunayaw: Full blooded African man. I don't have a will! Take me on the next flight!
But man this is the life!
Funny how I don't have fear of heights but I can't stand water You'd have to sign all sorts of indemnity documents! It often is the case that fear of water is more prevalent than heights. |

A week ago I flew on a friend's gyro-copter for the first time. Hair-raising as the wind was quite a factor - at some point the difference between our airspeed and groundspeed was 36mph! Even managed to take a pic over Koeberg Nuclear Power Station before we were warned off! Can see why the Botswana Defence Force uses these for anti-poaching. EDIT: Photos removed. cough...Koeberg + permitted altitudes...cough |

jl115: https://www.defenceweb.co.za/featured/denel-unable-to-deliver-on-hoefyster-contract-armscor-recommends-cancellation/
Possibly a blessing in disguise imo.....this will allow the SA army to go for the iklwa upgrade on the ratel which is much cheaper.. Sorry mate, they seem determined to complete Hoefyster, which personally I support. But I also think the Iklwa upgrade should also proceed. Seems the project is too advanced to simply abandon. Life being breathed back into Hoefyster – with conditions
As Denel readies itself to become a properly functioning entity, the State-owned defence and technology conglomerate appears to have an ally in the form of the also State-owned defence and security acquisition agency Armscor for Project Hoefyster.
In part, the presentation has it “completion of phase one of Project Hoefyster is deemed by both Armscor and Denel to be feasible” with conditions. These include end-user agreement on “waiving non-compliance to identified specifications”; suppliers willing to supply required sub-systems and components; availability of sufficient working capital to continue the project and Denel insourcing necessary personnel.
Denel is working on “a request for contract variation” that, once approved by Armscor, will see more regular payments as progress is achieved, facilitating release of funds to provide for labour and supply chain requirements. Armscor will also be asked to waive penalties on outstanding penalty milestones.
Hoefyster is, as far as can be ascertained, presently paused with six parts of the development phase at various stages of completion. They are 72% of hull and turret items common to all variants; 84% of the lead – Section – variant; 83% of the Fire Support variant; 73% of the Command variant; 44% of the Mortar variant and 53% of the Missile variant.
Completed as per phase two (industrialisation and production) started over nine years ago are 33 locally developed main weapon CamGuns and ammunition; 60 mm long range mortar bombs; 15 Patria vehicle platforms; 64 training simulators and four pre-production models of the Section variant. https://www.defenceweb.co.za/featured/life-being-breathed-back-into-hoefyster-with-conditions/ |

Stargate254: Africa once again is left behind in another frontier... One day we might find ourselves or rather we may find our politicians and their families begging for the few slots reserved for the poor Africans in the red planet after superpowers eventually mess this one up.

EAC/IGAD, ECOWAS, SADC should each have a well funded R& D facility and owning a few satellites by now for Agriculture, Defence and space exploration. Then one day we combine our efforts through AU for one big mission... The rest of the continents already have a head start. Perhaps we should start by catching up here on Earth, before thinking about Mars? |

Paramount unveils upgraded MarauderParamount Group has unveiled its upgraded Marauder ‘Mark 2’ armoured vehicle model, which features updated driver ergonomics and hull changes that will speed up production. The company said the upgrades include the introduction of a universal hull, interchangeable dashboard modules and steering wheel components. These latest enhancements will enable the Marauder to be manufactured in either Left or Right-Hand Drive configurations, from the same hull and component sets on the same production line. The vehicle can be converted to Left or Right-Hand Drive version in under two hours, should operational needs (such as peacekeeping deployments in foreign countries) require, making the Marauder highly-applicable to the asymmetrical challenges of the modern battlefield, wherever in the world that battlefield may reside, Paramount said in a statement. Deon Grobler, CEO of Paramount Land Systems, stated: “The Marauder is one of world’s most iconic and toughest armoured vehicles, often described as best suited for an apocalyptic environment. We are very proud of its well-deserved reputation and our latest advancements present significant benefits to its performance, crew capability and the customer. “Impressive developments in man-machine interfaces often go unnoticed, however the systems which we have incorporated within the new Marauder ‘Mark 2’ have made great strides in improving ergonomics, comfort and functionality. The improvements in the Marauder’s operator interfaces will increase usability when operating in rugged conditions, while at the same time reducing driver and crew fatigue, making the platform more comfortable and user-friendly, keeping troops safe and battle ready.” “In keeping with our 27-year track record of manufacturing innovative solutions to optimising our customers’ response capabilities to the threats faced in Africa and around the world, we are also pleased to report that we have today increased our own speed of production. We can now manufacture vehicles for stock purposes as opposed to manufacturing based on customer orders, delivering faster solutions for those partners with urgent demands, whether they are operating right or left-hand drive vehicles,” Grobler concluded. The Marauder features double-skin armour, a burst speed of 110 km/hr and ability to operate in conditions from – 20 to +50 Degrees Celsius. Day/night vision devices and extra sensors can also be fitted to provide 24/7 operability. The mine-protected vehicle can carry two crew and up to eight fully equipped soldiers in the rear. The Marauder was launched at the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) in Abu Dhabi in February 2007, and has since been supplied to customers around the world, including Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Congo, Gabon, Malawi, Ghana, Nigeria, Mozambique and Singapore. https://www.defenceweb.co.za/featured/paramount-unveils-upgraded-marauder/
