Olusegun26: From SRA (Silent reader association) but fired PMs to experts for clarity .. Did the normal procedures before interview...
Interview proper...
Firstly, I would like to alarm this particular comment-- nairaland.com is good, but wouldn't teach you so certain things - soft skills. Easier to read comments but more importantly, practice, practice and practice.. Not by my own power too, na God o. Hallelujah
I must say my intension was to take charge of the conversation, which i was able to achieve.
VO: Hello Sir, Good morning
O26: (ahah, in my mind), Good morning, hope you had a fantastic weekend.
V.O: he said nice things... (nice starting). So why are you going to the US?
O26: I'm going to Lincoln University (LU) in CA for a 2-year Master's degree program in MBA with a concentration in Management Information System after which I will go back to my for a career advancement.
V.O: you live in Europe (he mentioned the country)
O26: Yes, i live and work there. If you noticed that i have also completed an M.Eng there.
V.O: what do you do?
O26: mentioned the company's name, a front-end programmer (software testing-- gave examples, fraud investigation and developing interactive GUIs)
V.O: oh i can see you've a good profile, so why going for an MBA this, and not in this country, why .. Now here i completely pulled his attention.. He further asked, or is it because of CA is a hub for IT (Oh Bros, I noticed he tried to trap me there - -if i say "yes" penre, ah, na immigrant intent be that)
O26: (took the questions one after the other): To put it in perspective, LU is a business oriented school that offers an affordable +custom fit education.. I would like to take advantage of the multidisciplinary research center(i learned this from their website, added my own stories too) that entertains the collaboration of business professionals + student from diverse IT backgrounds in providing solution to real world problem..I chose US because her schools are of prime recognition, and comprise of professors... (said something can't remember again :: soft skills). 3. (Not because of the IT hubs in the region.. brought him back, proving myself as a legit student). I remember i said something like "this program will groom me to become an IT business architect with an understanding of... Analyzing, defining and building information system requirements and guiding other on how to build their for various business situations... Was just talking and he was listening..
V. O: How many schools did you apply to? O26: 3 Lincoln University, Weber state university, Missouri State University
V. O: who will sponsor this trip? O26: my mother, she's an orthopedist, essentially I'm gainfully employed as previously discussed and I've a liquid cash of * EUR.
Your visa has been approved, pick it up...
O26: (for my mind) Hey chairman, you collect all my passport - wetin happen V. O: you wan collect am now? O26: hmm, not really..
No documents checked, no questions about marriage..
Additional things he might have seen: my traveling experience (man don Waka for Europe o), USA B2 still valid.. been to US more than...
Maybe these gave me an edge: Almighty God (Surely), my eloquence, my accent (amerikish.. Lol), confidence (worked with many of them before) and preparation... In spite of my nice profile, bros i prayed and prepared...
Sorry to those refused visas today.. Please ask questions here.. I think there are no stupid questions. Pray and fire back..
I was unhappy to see a guy refused visa today.. I think he used an agent, and his Mr agent arranged a fake I20 for him (tried multiple times, but all proved abortive).. I'm not here to mock anyone but please stay away from agents.. You can do it yourself..!
@Theamerican, i encourage you not to stop guiding folk here, do as your mind pleases.. You rock ma'am.. Keep it up.
Thanks to many gurus here... You guys are great. I'll inbox you back...Kudos to Scholarstica, theamerican, 4peace4, @akin3103,pianoguy, dollydolly, biikeys, jesusbabygirl(my sister from another mother), lyrondee and those that asked questions, i learnt a lot from all of you. Cheers.. Big Congrats to you.... |

Samie1das: I've been following this thread for a while and I went for my visa interview today. Was successful. Here is the interview transcript.
Me: Good morning sir V.O: Blank face. Why are you travelling to the USA? Me: To further my education. I'm applying for a masters program in BioMathematics at University of California. V.O: Did you apply to other schools? Me: Yes I did. (Mentioned the name of some other schools) V.O: Why did you now decide to go with University of California? Me: It has the area I needed and is consistent with my career choice. V.O Does it mean that the other schools are not good enough for what you want to study? Me: I feel University of California was the best choice for me because of the depth of their courses and the long standing experience they have. I discovered this in my interaction with the professors. Congrats bro. Greater heights |

banji001: Hi , My Naira Land family , i have read the from page 1 to the last page simultaneously buh i still need some help, please attend to this i have a diploma (OND) in accounting and i will like to further my education in the united state,
1. can i use my OND to apply to a university for a bsc in the unites state? 2. what exams do i need to write ? 3. if i am to apply with my waec cert will i need to write any exams ? 4. if i am given admission will i need to pay 100% of my school fee in the first year ? 5. what school still have is admission open for now that i can enrol for ?
i am 26, i completed my OND in 2014 thanks
#Same thing that brought me on here guys 1. I'll advice you go with your high school transcript and cert and apply directly as a freshman 2. SAT and TOEFL depending on your pocket 3. SAT more important 4. You pay for what you consume... I.e per semester or credit hours... most schools I know of have payment plans for it's students 5. most schools are still accepting students for fall(not all majors) but your chances of scholarship/funding are little to none also by the time you're done with the necessary exams, must have approached deadline.. So weigh your options What have being doing after your OND since 2014? Visit this thread daily bro... Lots of info to tap and questions to learn from |

Lizzytiti: Sorry for the late reply guys. I'm not on nairaland and I'm only using my sister's account. To keep this thread alive, since it's the only current SAT thread, i will make it pretty long. OK here goes After lots of lectures and studying, the day of my exam finally came. I was even reading the day before and only had about 5hrs sleep(a terrible thing to do). I got to the venue, checked in at 8:00 and took my seat. Since the exam didn't start till 10am, I used the opportunity to sleep and relax on my seat. It was time for the first section i.e the reading section. I started with the two science passages: too easy, piece of cake as I spent 10 minutes each. I moved on to the literature passage and proceeded to answer the questions only to find myself staring blankly at the questions and asking myself: is this the question for another passage? I left it alone and answered the social studies and history passages, which were surprisingly not boring passages, although I spent about 15 minutes each answering these passages. Having just 10 minutes left, I went back to the literature passage and tried to skim it quickly and answered some if its questions. Just then, the invigilator announced: 5minutes left. wow, turned out he took 2minutes out of the 65 minutes. I quickly dotted the answers (which I would shade well later on) and finished answering the literature passage. Time up, 10 minutes break. I refreshed my mind and was ready to continue. I finished the writing section with about 3 minutes left, only for the invigilator to realize that he made an error in timing and added 6 minutes, totalling 35 minutes( standard time for that section). With 9 minutes left, I crosschecked my answers and shaded the reading section answers well. The maths section was easy. since I was good at maths, I finished the two sections with about 8 minutes left. Exam fever began to set in towards the end of my maths section, as I literarily began to feel sick. I moved on to the essay tired and exhausted(sick). I finished the exam, greeted my friends and went home. I was Ill throughout the rest of the day, having a high temperature and a terrible headache. I was fine the next day. 2 weeks later, my score was out. Maths:750, Verbal: 690, totalling 1440 out 1600. Essay:19/24. and that was my exam experience. Thanks for reading. I need to return my sister's phone. Hello dear.... . 1. Was it the subject SAT U wrote? i thought SAT is basically just english and maths? different sections 2. For how long did you take the lessons for the exam? Hope U dont mind my much questions |

beezyblaze: Hello us gurus in the house...please I'm sorry if I'm derailing the thread... Please i just have a question and i need advice from those that have been or are in the states for a while now.... Please i want to know how football is over there?? I'm an amateur footballer and 18 years of age... I'm considering going to the states to play football... Probably for a semi pro team or an academy but dont know how to go about it. I thought of applying for an f1 visa but I'll definitely be out of status because i might not go for classes and i don't want anything that will jeopardize my stay in the states or that will come back and haunt me later in the future... Please do anyone have any advice for me?? Probably if there's any academy that might invite me or something. My flight fare and all is intact. My plan is to enter usa in the rightest way and with my mind at rest ...Nothing else. sorry if my question might be silly.. I just dont want to make any mistake.. Thanks in advance. I Guess you'll still go through an F1 Route.... Are you under an academy here cos things like this needs high recommendation |

MackyNaija: If you get it before resuming for Summer 2020 - You can shift and activate it for Fall 2020 and get to pay in-state tuition for Fall 2020, Spring 2021 and Summer 2021. Plus a $1000 that is split into two semesters and subtracted from your fees.
At any point you can't maintain a 3.25GPA, you loose the scholarship. I have seen several people loose it.
Find out if your $12k scholarship is per semester or per academic year. Its actually per year... Buh some of these schools wont put these terms on their website... |
Travel › Re: Naija to Yankee Thoughts And Experiences by lyrondee: 5:13pm On Feb 21, 2018 |
MackyNaija: I gave an example earlier based on how it happens in my school - scholarships have terms that differ based on the institution.
If you get it before resuming for Fall 2019 - You get to pay in-state tuition for Fall 2019, Spring 2020 and Summer 2020. Plus a $1000 that is split into two semesters and subtracted from your fees.
If you get it before resuming for Spring 2020 - You get to pay in-state tuition for Spring 2020 and Summer 2020. Plus a $1000 that is split into two semesters and subtracted from your fees. Most people don't take summer classes or take just one course instead of two. The effect of the scholarship is reduced here. I Now understand bro... Thanks for the detailed response |

MackyNaija: Don't see it like a second semester, it's a freshman semester like every other semester. You pay for what you consume, Spring first then the next Fall after that. Thanks bro... So what if i apply for the spring session and i got a good scholarship which is reneweable... say a $12000 scholarship while tuition per semester is $8000, dat means d scholarship go cover the whole spring semester before going into the next academic calender? |
