VO :Why Alcorn? I was offered a full ride scholarship that covers my expenses. It is a small liberal arts college that brings me in close contact with my professors. Danielaz5: Good day everyone my Visa got denied today June 19 and would like to hear your advice on what to change. Below is the transcript
V.O : Good morning Me : Good morning V.O : What are you going to study Me: Biological Science at Alcorn State University V.O : Why biology ? Me : I lost my sister during childbirth when I was 5 and I decided I was going to become a medical doctor preferably an Ob-gyn doctor to help others so they won't go through the pain I went through V.O : What is an Ob-gyn doctor ? Me : An obstetrician and gynaecologist doctor V.O : What do you intend to do with a bachelor's degree ? Do you know the steps to becoming a doctor and what will qualify you to entering medical school ? Me: Becoming a doctor in the US requires two stages a pre-med and medical school. I have chosen Biology as my premedical course and would like to attend a medical school in Nigeria or USA
V.O : What grades will you require to attend a medical school ? Me:A MCAT score of possibly 359 in the US and A bachelor's degree and good GPA in Nigeria V.O : Your visa cannot be approved
I was on A presidential scholarship with a semester stipend and the V.O didn't pay attention to my I-20. I need help please I'm reapplying soon. Sorry about the delay..... here are your flows.... 1. Why biology? You gave her a reason of why you want to be a doctor not a biologist so now she knows your intent.... 2. You obviously lied in the second bolded.... Really!! attend med school in Nigeria after bsc in USA, she knew you lied about coming back... 3. Getting into med school in USA isn't child's play and goes beyond good GPA Nd MCAT test scores even citizens themselves find it hard to get it after series of interviews..... C'mon MCAT of 359?? Really?? You need to do research on MCAT scores..... What are your plans if you don't get in?? V.o doesn't give a f*ck about your funding be it full ride, stamps scholar etc.... You must have to prove certain things as to why you deserve the white paper Try search PRE MED INC on Facebook.... Ask questions there, it'll help long way..... Refire again..... God will grace you |

hiawathia1981: Please look at these other 2 resources. Bls.gov. bureau of labor statistics. There is a occupational handbook page which categorizes different professions, their pay, steps to become one, and general outlook. Projectionscentral.com lists the long term and short term projections of different professions by state. Ex. Anticipated openings for different professions annually.
I think this is what you were originally asking but I wasnt sure, I didnt get any feedback from you. Love this looking at the long term goal, how certain could the prediction be? Should one be more focused on the avg no. of openings anl? Thanks for your contributions ma.... |

theamerican: While I agree with keeping expectations realistic and not expecting paradise or a land filled with milk and honey, your responses have been the worst attempt at sarcasm I've seen in a long time.
@macaulay10 came here to say completely accurate things about the U.S., nothing he has said is false or exaggerated. I was even surprised he said them despite never being here and still stayed very close to the truth.
"You will see people sleeping on cartons and inside vehicles"? What's the correlation?
While there are some people whose lives are really pitiful, not every homeless person you see has a "suffering" story. Some of them threw their lives away through drugs, gambling, addictions, wrong choices in life (like messed up criminal background that prevents them from getting jobs, overstaying visiting visas and waiting for God to help them), etc. and despite all these, still have hope but don't just wanna fix their problems.
I have a friend whose brother is currently homeless. He served in the army and got addicted to drugs. He was declared mentally disable (depression, bipolar, etc.) and placed on disability assistance. He gets $3k monthly. He has refused to get help. He's 25, no wife, kids, nothing. Every 15th day of the month, he gets $3k and he spends it on drugs, gambling, etc.
You will see him homeless and say the country isn't working? It's his own choice, he constantly refuses to get help and by law, he can't be forced to do anything he doesn't wanna do. Unless he gets into trouble and the court orders him to get into a mental home/rehab, no one can force him to.
This same guy's sister (my friend) has a full-time job that pays $15 per hour. In a month, she earns about $2400. She drives a good car and lives comfortably. You won't know her brother should be doing better than her.
I agree with your point about racism though. It's still a big issue in these parts of the world. That's one of the things I really really frown upon. It's one of the intelligent arguments against life abroad.
Like someone once pointed out on this thread, why do some Nigerians hear "travel out" and think about illegal migration, working menial jobs just to survive, being homeless and running into all sorts of problems? Lol, there are people who are doing the right things, doing everything the right way and living their dreams.
I'm against taking the leap of faith and traveling just for traveling sake, without being informed. Those are the people who get into problems. Those who migrate with a plan and keep their expectations realistic, succeed. pls kindly reply my mail ma, cc: theamerican |

bigfrancis21: First I sympathize with you on what you are going through.
Second, the good news is that you are eligible to get your green card through VAWA act (violence against women act). The act was originally intended for women experiencing violence in the hands of their US citizen spouses but has since expanded to include both genders as violence can go both ways. Now, both men and women married to US citizen spouses can file on that basis if they experienced violence in the hands of their US citizen spouse, which in your case you clearly did. Be sure to keep ALL evidence of the violence (physical, if any, emotional etc.) you went through. Do not leave any piece of evidence out. Here in the US, threats of murder are taken very seriously and if you have not yet, you need to report that to the police to have solid evidence of that threat to support your VAWA application. Also, if need be, get a restraining order against your spouse which helps to solidify your application when you file. You can file for your green card by yourself if you can understand the USCIS forms and whatnot but if you cannot do get an immigration lawyer to help you file your application with the right supporting evidence. Your green card will take about a year to come out and it will be the permanent green card (the 10-year one, as opposed to the initial conditional 2-year one you would have gotten had your spouse filed), but in the meantime they would give you a work permit to be working with. With the situation of things at this point, you don't need your spouse to file for you. Majority of Americans barely know about this law/path to green card and it is highly certain that your spouse doesn't know of it either. Your only mistake is the child involved between you two = child support payments for 18 years, that is if your spouse puts you on child support.
Hang in there.
