Politics › Re: Babachir Lawal: Tinubu Smokes Lots Of Silk Cigarettes, Can't Do Without Them by LZAA: 2:38pm On Jul 27
Mr Lawal said, before becoming president, the Mr Tinubu he knew was often unkempt, improperly dressed and not a lover of luxury.

“Why is he accused of amassing such excessive wealth? I don’t understand. He is not going to enjoy it. He doesn’t enjoy it. He doesn’t do proper dressing. Now that he is president, he does it. There were times I criticised him about the way he dresses,” Mr Lawal said.

So he dresses like his supporters grin grin

Then build your power plants as you do in other countries. People forget that there are rural areas in USA without Electricity, main Sewage system but farmers are subsidized than in African countries.
Believe me when I tell you any area you see without electricity in the States is by PERSONAL choice not willful sabotage\ineptitude by power companies

nairalanda1:
When NIgerians do not pay a cost reflective tarrif , and refuse to pay a tax and hold their government to account, and support the corruption of those in power, this is the result.

No cost reflective tarrifs for power means that the power sector cannot improve services, and as such cannot eventually reduce costs.....It also means that people and entities have to pay for expensive generator power...which makes matters worse.

No tax...about 60% of the country, 99% of the rich, do not pay enough tax, income tax. That means that the government struggles to provide the kind of roads and railways needed to improve logistics costs

Corruption speaks for itself. It drives away investment and makes the cost of setting up a business harder.

And therein lies the issue.

Yes, when we didn't pay cost reflective tarrifs for telephony, phones were expensive. When we started doing so, within five to six years, telephony became cheaper. Somehow we don't seem to realise that we have to do the same for electric power...hence we end up paying the costs for it via generator.

Like I said, if you do not pay a cost reflective tarrif to the power sector, you will pay it to the generator and fuel station people...and solar people. At a much higher rate.
You just heard what a business owner said yet you still stick to this your theory?

The Myopic views that investors make is that Nigeria is a 230m market. When I started production and distribution was when I realized that the only people that have purchasing power are a little out of that 230 m spread nationwide. The remaining are just on basic survival mode.
You dey mind am?
People that don't own businesses will always theorize but the reality will always hit hard

Nobody will argue with you that Nigeria is the poverty capital of the world because we have raw number of poor people, even by percentage.

But the attraction for foreign companies is that the percentage that can still afford their products is greater than the population of many countries.

This is why they say Nigeria is a good place to make money. You need to be informed.
Again you are really stuck in the past
Just go out and touch some grass.
Good place to make money?
In 2026?

banku:
I respectfully disagree.

You listed everything that led to high cost of production except unreasonable Profit. I think while high credit cost is insane, the cost and generation of Electricity is genuine, excessive profit is a killer in Nigeria.

Your labor cost is cheaper than the Asian countries you listed yet every local producer use foreign exchange rate to raise prices; including bottled water.

These same manufacturers that complained about Electricity, road and taxes go to other African countries to buy a virgin bush. They establish factories there powered by newly built plants and roads!

They sell cheaper there than in Nigeria and still make their profit. The fact remains that there are enough Nigerians, despite the poor masses, that can pay for their products.
Some of you really need massive re-education
Enough Nigerians to pay for what?
In a land suffering massive hyperinflation or the poverty base of the earth?
Maybe you still think this is the early 2000s
You better wake up
Business › Re: High Production Costs Make Nigerian Factories Uncompetitive — NSDC Boss by LZAA: 7:39am On Jul 27
According to him, industrial electricity costs about eight US cents per kilowatt-hour in Vietnam and around 10 cents in China, compared with about 15 cents on Nigeria’s national grid, rising to nearly 30 cents when manufacturers rely on diesel generators.
Yet Nairalanda1 will come here and be posting "can you pay what the US and Europe pay for electricity "
Mind you this is for steady electricity over there o not the generator economy here.

obembet:
As far as I know, Yoruba movies seem to dominate Nigeria’s box office and global recognition more than Igbo or English-language films. I’m open to learning though can anyone point out an Igbo or English Nollywood movie that has outperformed films by Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham, or Femi Adebayo since the industry began? In case you didn’t know, Yoruba movies have been around for over 20 years before Igbo or English-language Nollywood films you can fact-check that. So comparing them is a bit like comparing Chelsea to Manchester United; they’re simply not on the same level in many aspects.
Lionheart like Living in Bondage before it paved the way
Infact Funke is a product of NOLLYWOOD

The man neversaid he was Head of DSS in this write up at any time.

Perhaps the CSO hushed this account in order for his own to sound believable?

Remember most of them lie a lot.
Abacha was buried according to his religious rites which meant a quick burial
The Doctor at the villa was present as well
Even if the CSO wanted to keep it quiet it wouldn't have worked because it would have eventually been revealed to high ranking members of the regime
The main reason I referenced the Dss thing was that the CSO was in charge of the security there
Even Gwarzo who was the head of that organization at the time would have been aware of such an "interrogation"
Politics › Re: I Did Not Kill Him, He Died On Top Of Me Says Mistress Of Late Abacha by LZAA: 2:31pm On Jul 21
Abacha CSO was Al Mustapha who debunked this many times.
The said man was not the head of DSS at the time ffs and again the CSO ran the security of Abacha
All this sensationalism to sell a book is silly
