LiteratureRe: Are There Any Literary Agents In Nigeria? by MadMax1(f): 2:56pm On Jan 06, 2010
Your geographical location doesn't matter at all, believe me, There are writers in China and Russia and India and South Africa and yes, Nigeria, with US and UK agents. Agents rep people overseas all the time. Just be sure your book is good and it'll find an agent for you. Are you trying your hand at literary competitions and getting published in good literary journals? Agents pay attention to stuff like that. Keep learning and din't rush your manuscript out if it's not ready.

Saw Deep Impact years ago. Nice, if too brief, review. You forgot to add the movie poster.
Is Darjeeling Ltd good? About the tea? No one's reviewed it.
FashionRe: Why Do Nigerian Fashion Designers Use Foreign Names For Their Brands? by MadMax1(f): 3:11am On Jan 06, 2010
Inferiority complex? Pretentiousness? Lack of imagination? Their own names are lovely. Seems to be a Nigerian thing. Other countries use their own names or geographical monikers and succeed in fashion. If they've been using their names the world would have gotten used to it and they'll probably have gone a lot farther in carving a niche internationally, since they'll be better respected. Nigerians in other professions succeed internationally with local names; in Hollywood and elsewhere. The didn't change names from from Adewale Agbaje or Chiweltel Ejiofor or Taiwo Ajayi Lycett to Tom Ford or Miguel Cruise or Francois Jolie out of blind imitation. undecided
FashionRe: Porselene Products-are They Any Good? by MadMax1(f): 2:57am On Jan 06, 2010
Just ok? With all the noise I heard? So there's no huge difference in your skin after three months? Mebbe I won't be patronising them afterall.
Next best thing? You and me both. grin
FashionRe: Product Reviews: Stop Wasting Money! Beauty Products That Actually Work by MadMax1(op): 2:53am On Jan 06, 2010
You're welcome, pk. Uzoo, haven't come across bust-enhancing products that work, though I have to take other people's words for this. Know someone with mosquito bites that did not increase after a fortune on pumps and pills and what not. Are you sure you aren't imagining the difference noticed? They seem to make extravagant claims but don't deliver, these bust products.
LiteratureRe: Are There Any Literary Agents In Nigeria? by MadMax1(f): 2:12am On Jan 06, 2010
There are no local literary agencies, I think.

Are you sure your book is the best it can be? You've honed and polished it? No grammatical errors or typos? You won't get a second chance with a good literary agent.

They're on the lookout for talent and will take you up if it has merit. You have to find the agent that is right for your work. Look for published books similar to yours and find out who reps that agent, then pitch your novel. For instance if your style is similar to Roald Dahl, he's represented by Anthony at David Higham Associates, as is Chinua Achebe. www.davidhigham.co.uk. If you write like Ben Okri, approach The Marsh Agency. If your style is like Chinammanda Adichie, approach Andrew Wylie at The Wylie Agency, etc.

Agents are individuals and like different books and writers. Find the one who likes what you write, and pitch to him or her. Don't ever be discouraged. Keep at it and sooner or later it'll happen.

But we like Spiked to tha Cylinder na. It has a ring and fits you to a T. Pele na. There's an evil Spikie.

A crush? Ah. The kobo drops.

LMS was great, so funny and so real. I think it was Oscar-nominated. I generally like anything Toni Collette's in. Greg Kinnear was good to see too. You should see him in As Good as It Gets, absolutely my favourite Jack Nicholson movie, one of the funniest, wittiest movies you'll see, with performances you'll never forget. Won the Oscars for Best Actor and Actress that year.
TV/MoviesRe: Hollywood: Favourite Movies, Actors and Awards. Tinseltown reviews & Gossip by MadMax1(op): 2:52am On Jan 05, 2010
Lol are you imagining things? Spikie's quirky but she doesn't know how to hold a grudge.
No2, you got the name wrong. It is Spiked to tha Cylinder o.

Lol. Quit projecting. You and iice are the weirdos here. cheesy

spikedcylinder:
Holy smoke doesn't have witty convos but its darn near quirky. All the over hyped tantrums, the sarcastic spiritualism, the impressive 'costumes', the dysfunctional family etc. Got me, really did. cheesy Did anyone like Little Miss Sunshine?Watching The Queen.
Very good movie. Funny too. The dancing at the end!

JeSoul:
Well, you're certainly not missing much. 2 of the movies had several shots with the black microphone foam stick in the frame as clear as day. Forget about cinematic integrity, what would it cost to simply move the camara or mic a few inches left? it cannot be that expensive or laborious tongue.
Tell us Spiked to tha cylinder, tell us! cheesy Sauron has been disparaging your person too long telling us if it ain't got nekkid, you ain't diggin it.
Spiked to tha cylinder. This JS will not kill somebody with laugh this new year. Amen. grin
Oh Nollywood wears its incompetence like a badge of honour. They don't know their craft but believe they've arrived.

spikedcylinder:
Lol. Pray tell, what are my kind of movies?
I actually enjoyed it tremendously. Laughing like a yahoo at Steve in a red dress and lipstick begging to be loved after his initial gra gra manliness. What actually made me watch it was your review - it had something about urine in it.Yea I know, I'll go and find my stake now. cheesy
I know what movies you like. Witty dialogue, among other things. Holy Smoke doesn't have much of that till near the end, when the relationship gets intense and Winslet becomes cruel. Haba. Was urine not there? Shebi it was the sight of urine pouring down Winslet's legs as she walked towards him that made Keitel change his mind about having her. He must have thought she rocked like that. That was the part that got a laugh out of me.

Oya don't tell him. I will not do it. grin
Bruno is horrifying. So was Borat, but it was terribly funny too. I had to stop watching Bruno. I couldn't help guilty snorts of laughter at some points, but it's unbelievably vulgar and obscene. One thing about Baron Sacha Cohen, he is not afraid.
Don't know the last time I saw a Nollywood movie. Zero incentive to.

TV/MoviesRe: Hollywood: Favourite Movies, Actors and Awards. Tinseltown reviews & Gossip by MadMax1(op): 6:40pm On Jan 04, 2010
Spikie, it's not your kind of movie I don't think.

vescucci:
Holy Smoke. I almost thought that was an exclamation. One of the first films I saw Winslet in. Didn't understand it much when I first saw it. And now it strangely reminds me of Dido's song Mary Is In India or something. That film only convinces me that Kate is convinced that getting unclothed is the hallmark of a true professional. Poor Kate.
Lol. She likes quirky scripts, and those tend to have nudity. Jane Campion, who wrote and directed this, also wrote The Piano and I think that movie where Meg Ryan bares it all and engages in graphic sex scenes a few years ago. Holy Smoke I saw convinced I would dislike. It isn't my usual fare but at least it got me watching to the end, a lot more than I can say for many movies.
But it's true Winslet's been inekkid more than most. I'm trying to think of a movie of hers she wasn't baring it in. Still she's the only actress in history nominated for Oscars five times before the age of 30, so maybe she knows something we don't.
TV/MoviesRe: Hollywood: Favourite Movies, Actors and Awards. Tinseltown reviews & Gossip by MadMax1(op): 5:00pm On Jan 03, 2010
Holy Smoke.
Harvey Keitel. Kate Winslet.
Hm.
Convinced she's in the hypnotic thrall of some Hindu religous cult, a young girl's family hires an expert to break her loose from the bonds of destructive spiritism. Kate Winslet's our mystic on the run, and Harvel Keitel the man contracted to save her. Holed up in a shack for three days in the middle of nowhere, you know they'll be naughty. She seduces Keitel with cruelty and urine, and he's eating out of her panties before they're done. Keitel is good, as usual, and Winslet was Winslet. Lacklustre dialogue warms up towards the end. . The film begins with the promise of a lighthearted exploration of spiritism and ends with feminist diatribe and fist-waving. Ah well. It wasn't boring.

Have a marvelous New Year, all.

BRITTANY MURPHY

She's the cute thing with the breathless doll voice you saw in Just Married, Sin City, 8 Mile, Love and Other Disasters, and heard as little Gloria in Happy Feet. Brittany Murphy died of a heart attack at 32. She'd had cosmetic surgery and was taking painkillers. She slumped at home. CPR would have revived her but by the time people got to her, it was too late.
Our hearts go out to her family.
Say Goodbye Brittany.

PATRICK SWAYZEE

There's Dirty Dancing.
There's the scene in Ghost where Demi Moore's making some clayey thingie, and he joins her and they make a huge mess, and then, a movie so unashamedly sentimental your toes curled. Patrick's been in action movies like the surfer thriller Point Break with Keanu Reeves and Waking Up in Reno where, bitter irony, he played the husband of Natasha Richardson, who died as well this year.
He'll be missed.
Say Goodbye Patrick.

FARRAH FAWCETT

Farrah Fawcett I watched as a child in NTA's 80s rerun of the mega-smash TV series Charlie's Angels. She was unbelievably beautiful, the sex symbol of those times, her posters adorning male bedrooms the world over. She had a longterm relationship with handsome actor Ryan O'Neal, and they have a son who managed to miss the genes for both parent's good looks. Farrah died of cancer. Look at her at 62!
Say Goodbye, Farrah.

NATASHA RICHARDSON

Daughter of Vannessa Redgrave (iconic British actress you might remember as Max in Mission Impossible) and wife of Liam Neeson, who you remember as Schindler in Schindler's List, passed away after a skiing accident. Natasha Richardson's the gorgeous woman in Maid in Manhattan, the Parent Trap, and was in Waking Up In Reno with Charlize Theron and Billy Bob Thornton. One just instinctively liked her. Our hearts go out to her families. She was just 45.
Say Goodbye, Natasha.

DAVID CARRADINE

Oh David David David. How we loved thee. Martial arts maestro and star of over a hundred movies from the 70s till present, David Carradine brings an enigmatic and powerful presence to the screen. You got a good taste of that in QT's Kill Bill, where he played the titular character, a charming, murderous bastid.
He was found dead in his hotel room in Bangkok, victim of some sexual escapade gone awry. Say Goodbye, David

First I'll hear of Zenmed. I checked up on it. Good reviews, but that's not the same thing as seeing it work. Cosmetic companies LIE so I generally don't go by a few reviews, some of which may be sponsored. You might have to try the product and post a review here. No idea where it can be got locally.

Found this link on how ZenMed works. You'll find it useful.

Cloudy's regular animation, Vesc. I think its slightly retro style made you think it's 3D. A Scanner Darkly with Keanu Reeves and Robert Downey Jr is 3D in its early days. The medium's an improvement on nothing.

Hmmm. Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon have called it quits after 23 years together.

Hey sweetie. Cloudy isn't 3D, just regular computer animation. And it was delightful, with some hilarious and wonderfully subtle moments. Law Abiding Citizen's a silly movie, and makes no sense whatsoever from a particular point on. I don't think anyone's seen it here; which is why there should be reviews about this stuff. If you're going to see any three movies, please make it Avatar, District 9 and Inglorious Basterds. Pitt wasn't impressive, but Christoph Waltz was. Cameron is among those directors who keep shaking people out of their complacency. You think you've seen it all and then he shows you you haven't.
