Six Feet Under, an oldie, on cds. Created by Alan Ball (True Blood) it's breathtakingly good, outstanding in every respect. Only drama series I can compare it to in terms of quality is The West Wing or The Sopranos. |
PRODUCT: JERGENS SKIN SMOOTHING LOTION This is Jergens' best moisturiser by far. There are far more expensive lotions that won't work a tenth as good on your skin. I've yet to come across a lotion as good as this, and confidently label it the best lotion on the planet. I don't know how Jergens and Neutrogena keep making excellent products at such low prices. There's a tendency to think if a thing is cheap, it can't be a quality product. Not with cosmetics. Many times, simple basic products outperform expensive things by a mile. This product is so good I sometimes use it in place of Philosophy. The 16oz jar is about $7. It's available everywhere, and should be less than N1000 in Lagos. If you try this, I guarantee you won't go back to your old moisturiser by the time the jar's empty. RATING: 5 BIG STARS.

Rooting for Benning till I saw Portman in Black Swan. She's earned that oscar twice over. So, so so happy for Bale! Usually too busy drooling in any movie he's in to notice his acting. But he was superlative in The Fighter. Sweaty men hitting each other and yelling and boxers with angst. So frakking hot. Way to go, Ms Portman. |
benodic:Hiya, benodic. How've you been? I listen seriously to what you say about your experiences. Forgive me if I don't extend the same to things you didn't witness and so can't offer as fact. I respect that you may believe as you choose, however. Paul Twitchell, when he founded Eckanker, made quite a few claims. The thing about claims is, no one lives in a vacuum. There's an entire world of observers around us. Twitchell's claims were investigated and some found to be untrue. Perhaps he said some things to give what was, at the time, a new religious movement, some glamour and mystery. But it's unnecessary, don't you think? Harold Klemp, current Eck master, admitted Twitchell made some false claims but he says it has nothing to do Eckanker itself, as the religion is distinct from any one individual. That makes sense. Klemp's moderation and unflinching honesty earned my respect. You've quite a leader in him. I hope you're secure enough in your beliefs to not overreact at any slight negative and take it as some sort of 'attack.' It's not. Can I ask you to elaborate more on the differences between astral travel and soul travel? I thought they were the same. Why is astral travel 'dangerous'? |
Hola, Don1dee. Reviews of some men's products on the early pages. Sourced from guy pals. Glenny, Any skin lightener that uses licorice extract as its active ingredient is fine. Or Vitamin C. Be sure it's from a reputable US or UK company or brand, not one of those cosmetic 'labs' in Italy or France. But high spf suncreen is what you really need. It's the sun that darkens the skin and issues uneven patches and accelerates skin aging. uzoo, Started using Neutrogena Healthy Skin last year. Just retinol, no salicylates. Been using little or no make-up all my adult life. Spares my facial skin the telling stress of years of constant application and removal and breakouts from clogging and whatnot. I buy tons of make up though. Once in a rare while I break out the palette. Some clothes demand it. My, but you're really taken with this product. TOH, I had the Neutrogena helioplex spf 85 in mind. Sun is the skin's worst enemy. Those products can be got. Maybe they could ask a store to get it. Preorder, that kind of thing. Bet it'll be overpriced by the time it arrives. Someone posted she bought Olay Regenerist in Lagos for 8000 naira. Darned thing is less than $20 on Amazon. |
Most interesting. I haven't read any books on Eckanker, just took a cursory look online. Since you ask, I got my information from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eckankar http://www.religionfacts.com/a-z-religion-index/eckankar.htm Indeed the physical universe fascinates me. We do live in it. There's enough strangeness and grandeur in the universe to capture anyone. You say there are creatures who live on the other planets in the solar system but can't be detected empirically? Then life doesn't exist on those planets, does it? It's a physical universe. If it's not physical, if it's not biological, if it's not interacting directly with its own physical environment, then there's no life on that planet. Even if it's not a carbon-based life form like humans, it needs to be physical before we can say there's life on that planet, or that system or that galaxy. That there's life on physical planets that I cannot see with my physical eyes tells me nothing at all. Your posts are really interesting. It's raised more questions - temples of Golden wisdom, consciousness of man raised, etc? but I don't want to weary you. I'll read Twitchell's book sometime soon. I hear it's well researched; it'll be a joy to read. Maybe I'll check out Klemp's book after that. I already like him. Thanks benodic. You're a patient soul. |
Absolutely fascinating, benodic. Thank you for sharing this. I understand why you say to me, 'Prove it yourself, experiecne it yourself.' You may have had experiences that are impossible to render in words or adequately describe. Still, this isn't about proving a thing to others but explaining what constitutes proof of belief for YOU. I very much doubt I'd be skeptical. We wouldn't be talking if I thought you made things up. I don't think anything remotely like that. You say you had memories of a past life as a child. How did you know what they were ? How did you know they were memories of a past life instead of some other thing it could have been? What brought the memores to the surface? Was it spontaneous? It's not something that's happened to most people at that or any other age; why you? Especially since you didn't ask for it? I read that Harold Kemp is the third Eck master. Eckanker was begun in the 60s by its first master. Sufi Islam is much older, I think, though I may be wrtong. How could a 20th century ECK master have taught the sound HU to a body of ancient sufi doctrine? Isn't it possible sufis acquired it before Eckists? That it was for Eckanker a truth its first amster discovered in Sufism, not the other way round? It's not, after all, a contest. As you rightly said, the things of God belong to all. I hope you're not offended by this question. I sense your sincerity and your generosity of spirit. Unless you believe a thing to be true, you would not say it. Could you share some more of the things you've seen and experienced in your travels? Please don't worry that it'll sound strange. I was partucllarly intrigued by what you described as consciousness expansion. How you don't leave your physical body to soul travel. It's bi-location. You're fully conscious in two separate realities at the same time. You know humans have travelled to the moon and the Voyager crafts have gone beyond Pluto. Our solar system stops at the Oort Cloud two light years away. Two light years is an enormous distance. The sun is 8 light minutes away. But there are distances in millions and billions and trillions of light years in the universe. The scale of things, both great and tiny, is beyond our faculties. We'll probably never travel by conventional craft to the edge of our own Solar system, much less get to the edges of our galaxy, much less explore other galaxies in the universe. As Eckists your consciousness travel, and you explore other realms and realities. Would you say it's possible for a consciousness to soul travel the universe, visit galaxies and roam stars? Observe other civilizations, other forms of life in the universe, far from home? Have you done this? Have other Eckists? If not why not? The consciousness cannot know the limitations of physics and can go anywhere. Have Eckists travelled the universe? What have they found? |
Hey, hey MyJoe! Happy New Year man! Deep Sight:Hey Deepie. When I reflect closely I neither agree nor disagree. What I agree with depends on the proofs furnished. It's not a challenge, merely a desire to understand. I read the W page on Eckanker and learnt the HU came from Sufism, the deeply spiritual offshoot of Islam. Eckists accept nothing without proof, which is a refeshing change from the conventional religions. I'd like to understand some of the proofs, and other things. Of course spiritual things can't be proven empirically in a lab. Nevertheless many have what constitutes proof of the veracity of their beliefs, and I'd like to know what these are in Eckanker. |
donnie:The distinctions you're making there are non-existent.The verse clearly tells you these are gifts bestowed in order to serve, and aren't formal religious offices. Here's that 'pastors' verse in Ephesians again with preceeding verses: But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ Wherefore he saith, when he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave GIFTS unto men, And he gave some apostles, and some prophets, and some evangelists and some pastors and some teachers For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ. What's clearly being described there as 'pastors' isn't solo spiritual 'leaders' and church superstardom, but just one of many equal ways to serve others in a church. Just like there may be many prophets or evangelists in a single church, there may be many pastors. It's rendered in the plural (pastors) so there's no limit on how many individuals may serve that way in one church. It is a description of service, not a formal religious office. Early Christian Churches were led by a group of people with different spiritual GIFTS (not 'bible school' certificates) serving that church in separate but equal ways. They had no religious titles and were merely called church elders. The early churches were NOT led by individuals and certainly not some 'pastor'. There is no getting around that. Christ spoke about these things, knowing well our vainglorious human nature. He knew our love of titles and recognition, our petty pride. The Jews called religious leaders and title-holders Rabbi, Lord, Father (father in spiritual things, father in the lord, etc) and Master, and worshipped them like we worship pastors now. You can observe the Jews at this right from the Old Testament. Christ told his disciples to do away with religious titles and fellow-man exaltation, that they are all spiritual equals. He said no man is qualified to play the role of spiritual teacher or spiritual father in the lives of other men. Christ alone is our teacher, God alone our Spiritual Father. Matthew 23: 8-11 But be not ye called Rabbi, for one is your Master, even Christ, and all ye are brethren And call no man your father upon the earth, for one is your Father, which is in heaven Neither be ye called masters, for one is your Master, even Christ But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. No titles, no exaltation and men-worship, just serve others as enabled by your spiritual GIFTS, however great you may be in the secular world. It doesn't get plainer (and more ignored) than that. |
Each religion has its attractions. Can I ask what attracted you to Eckanker? How do Eckists define God? You say Eckists don't accept a thing unless it's proven to be true. Refreshing. Who determined the sound by which God created the universe; how did he or she come to know that it's HU? How do you,as a person, know it's true? What was the proof that was given? The emphasis in Eckanker is soul travel, crossing into alternate realities, leaving the body behind, and learning spiritual lessons from what you find, the aggregate of these experiences. Fascinating. Naturally, bi-location is involved, yes? Your biological body and senses are alive and functioning normally while these travels are undertaken? When your soul leaves the body, how do you know where to go? Who charts your course? How do you determine that the realities and planes you travel to are external and valid, and not something you're unknowingly generating yourself, or something that is being generated for you? Can two separate Eckists unknown to each other visit the same reality and find the same thing, much like two people would go to, say, New York? Do shed some light on these. |
Portman is a superb actress. I simply love her and will watch anything she's in. Even if she just stares at a wall, she's never boring. You might check out her debut in Leon The Professional, at just 12. She was the only thing worth watching in V is for Vendetta, and her usual amazing self in Garden State. Knowing her to be extremely gifted is why her turn in Star Wars was disappointing. It just wasn't her material. I'm glad she's back in her element. I love Nicole but she's really annoying when she plays the coquette. The coy smiles, the squeaky breathless voice; I can't stand it. I couldn't finish Bewitched or that awful Stepford Wives remake. But when she goes for what she does best, displaying her dark side, she's breathtaking. I can never get enough of Dogville, The Hours or the genius insanity of Moulin Rouge. Never enough. |
To pastor in the early church wasn't a religious title but one of the things an elder might do, along with others, to edify the church. Nobody went to 'bible school' or woke up one day with a 'vision' to 'start a church' and suddenly became a 'pastor'. It was a GIFT, like teaching or prophesying, that was FREELY GIVEN to individuals by the Holy Spirit, one of many gifts meant for the upliftment of the entire body of a single church. Each one of the early Christian Churches was not led by an individual 'pastor' but a GROUP OF ELDERS with different spiritual gifts, playing different but equal roles in that church. No individual was deemed perfect enough to lead a Church on his own. Even a Jewish synagogue in those times was run by a group or class of religious teachers or rabbis, NEVER an individual. That verse clearly lists 'pastors' as one of many gifts of the Holy Spirit, issued to many individuals in a single church, with which the entire body of a church is edified. Just like teachers and prophets, there's no limit on how many pastors a single churcn may have. But like the word 'tithe' we impose modern church sensibilities and meaning to a word that is describing a very different practice in biblical times. That verse is NOT describing the modern Christian practice of solo spiritual leadership and church superstardom that did not exist when the verse was written. Individuals styling themselves 'pastors' and running churches are a modern phenomenon, a modern invention. It's a practice that doesn't exist anywhere in the bible. @op Rare to see a church leader who can say No to being deified and worshipped by his fellow men. Here is a man who knows exactly who he is: NOT GOD. Refreshing. |
Portman was terrible in the Star Wars movies. I adore her but she almost ruined my eyesight there. Haven't seen any of the lead performances but hope the oscar goes to Annette Benning. Portman, second. Best actor, Firth or Jesse Einsenberg. |
Arms, face and legs get more exposure to the sun. You don't use suncreen. Careful with Makari; there are more serious complaints than breakouts. Only their Caviar Face Lightening cream is complaint-free and is their best product. You might try that for your arms and legs. An excellent high spf suncreen is crucial and will likely resolve the problem on its own after some weeks of use. I highly recommend the Neutrogena Helioplex suncreen range. |
Crime and punishment was unforgettable in that he somehow gets you in the murderer's head, thinking his thoughts and feeling his feelings, and you become implicated in everything that student does; if he gets caught, you get caught. Genius. Terrified that success would ruin his gift Doestoevsky would deliberately waste his earnings and, poor and desperate again, begin another book. As for the The Brothers Karamazov, there are no words. One worries that translators don't render these masterful books exactly, giving one a second-hand experience inferior to the material in its original Russian. I read English translations of D.O Fagunwa books and they didn't do justice to the fantastic poetry and beauty and brilliance of the books in the original language. |
VENUSS:Wish I knew, girl. Browse stores. Maybe you'll get lucky. Don't forget to add a good suncreen. |
benodic:Interesting. But what about people named Hu? You know, like that Chinese President? So anyone who calls the guy gets unexpected benefits from the universe, since, you know, they'd be calling Hu? I'm teasing,of course. I knew some Eckists as a kid, and they were good people. Will definitely check out your tenets and read Sir Klemp. Should be intriguing. Thanks. |
agathamari link=to[sup]pic=158340.msg4964439#msg4964439 date=1258725389]Yeah. Clive woulda been a good Bond. Craig is perfect though. He's the most lethal Bond, and thereby the sexiest. darqly:You nailed it spot on. The posh, sleek generically handsome 'Bond' is a Hollywood invention. Craig is Fleming's Bond, the first time the man in the books came alive on screen. Even the other Bonds agree on that. |
queensmith:LMAO. You go, stalker! ![]() That Eggs is fine? Broke your glasses, did you? His head is shaped exactly like an egg. If you like em that round go for Humpty Dumpty. |
Weren't those with the 'outrage' the same ones who changed their tunes and went batshit with luv when they saw his performance in Casino Royale, for the record, the best Bond performance ever? Won an award for it, making him the only Bond to win an acting award. Moore's Bond has nothing to do with age. I grew up watching the guy, ah beg. Connery played Bond well into his fifties and he was great. Moore began the Bond roles when he was young, all the Bonds did. Guy's a sacrilegious Hollywood confection, nothing like Ian Fleming's man. The Jason Bourne in the movies isn't much like the Jason Bourne in the books; he was patterned after the Bond in Fleming's books. Craig is the first Bond to bring the Bond character to life exactly as Flemiing wrote it. That's why we love him, bless the blue of his eyes. Not cos he's the latest one. |
queensmith:Lol. Who the sam hill is Mechad Brookes? It had better not be that Eggs. I think Skarsgard's already taken. He's hot and he drinks blood; only death will part he and iice. Like Tara, but she's a bit of a stereotype (sassy black sidekick). Lafayette's a delight, as is Jason. |
Read za Bond books and weep at Moore's foppish, mincing Bond. He was basically reprising his role in the TV series The Persuaders, with Tony Curtis. Dalton suffered from the worst Bond scripts ever and the worst supporting cast in Bond history. Even Lazenby's script and support was better, at least in the ten minutes I saw. Don't know if Mendes can do an actioner jere. Should stick with British theatre and those movies where half the cast contemplate their navels and talk about 'deep', existential stuff. An old hand at classy action like Michael Mann woulda been better. |
Why HU though? Why not, I don't know, Q or Vee or Waaa? What does HU do? Your contemplation seeds are very lovely. But why only Harold Klemp? Is he the founder of Eckanker? I hope it's not a personality cult, all about the man and all that? Will check out your website. |
Your contemplation seeds are really nteresting, benodic. Don't know much about you guys. I think you chant UUUUUUUU a lot. |
Lol. I get your point. I don't do complicated beauty regimes either. Don't even use make-up most days. But there's facial skin, and there's body skin. They have different issues. You don't get acne on your hip or the back of your hand, and salicylic acid is the acne-buster. Retinol does great for face issues too. The earlier one uses it the better, as your face stays the same, as if you don't age. Using that formula for your entire body would be a waste, though. I was suggesting a body cream that takes splendid care of body skin. I use Philosophy Hope in a Jar for body skin. Diet plays an important role in skin beauty, there's just so much that creams can do. But for me, the best skin moisturiser is Philosophy Hope in a Jar. It's a miracle worker. False modesty aside, I've gorgeous skin and its partly due to Philosophy. When I switch to another moisturiser, it actually tells on my skin. Don't know what I'll do if they ever go out of business. It's $60 for the 4 oz jar, which lasts 4-6 weeks. It's meant for the face, but it's what I use for my body. Try it and see. |
Good for you. Neutrogena products gives best value for money by far. I use its healthy skin formula and their spf 85 suncreen. NO need to use it on entire body though. The parts of your body exposed to the elements (face, feet, hands) need different care than the parts that are unexposed. Use for face alone, and get something else for your body skin that'll make it glow as well. |
Darthmaul:Lol, Darthie. Am not really 'back' oooooooo. The 'awful thing' is how busy I am oooooooo. So busy I couldn't see something I'd been waiting months for, from my fav director no less. Will try and post more oooooooooooooo!!!!! @ogaga4luv I knew that thing would rock. It's Nolan, man. And DiCaprio. That Japanese god, Ken Watanabe, lent his divine presence to the flick. What more could any eyeball want? Will check it out soon. Been hearing stuff about Salt. Haven't seen that either. |
Tomb Raider games came first, then the movie. Good game till the 4th or 5th instalment or so, Edge of Darkness I think. Sloppy crapola since then. Was the only game movie-lized till some daft production company committed blasphemy by making MGS into some shitty movie. Death's too good for 'em. ![]() You just know a good game when you test it. If unsure, IGN's reviews are always spot on. Go for stuff they rate 5 Stars. |
Chei-yahhh. I'm touched, Darthie baby. Touched, I say! The thread had issues? What issues? ![]() Been busy something awful. Haven't even had time to see Inception and we looove St Nolan! |
Christ wasn't just angry. He was FURIOUS. Check out all of Matthew 23 for some celestial yabbis. Their 'Are you Christ' riposte sort of makes no sense though. Who appointed anyone judge over you? You have only one Judge, really. 'Killing' yourself to conform to unreal standards of human behavior and external definitions of what constitutes a 'Christian' is. . . ![]() That's why the average Christian is just playing a role, and has his 'church' face and 'real' face. It's all externalities, studied attitudes. The change isn't from within and isn't real. If you want to get angry, get angry and don't apologise for it. You're human, and will never be perfect. Perfection isn't demanded of you. Please continue to be yourself, no external attitudes put on to pass the 'Christian Examination' by whoever is arrogant enough to set it. Sorry to butt in. Like my nuclear too much not to. Will butt out presently. |
'Christ was angry.' 'Are you Christ?' ![]() Lol. Interesting thread. |
