Ifeanyi Ararume has been reappointed as the non-executive Chairman of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) by Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Davido and his manager, Asa Asika, were seen shunning an interviewer who asked an offensive question in a viral video.

During a recent concert, a member of the press threw a question to Davido about his recently released Timeless Album.

The purported attempt to abduct the well-known singer has reportedly resulted in the arrest of certain individuals, according to the Nigeria Police Force.

On Friday, news of the singer’s attempted kidnapping surfaced on social media.


According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the inflation rate in Nigeria increased to 22.04% as of March 2023.

The consumer price index measures the rate of change in prices of goods and services.


“In March 2023, the headline inflation rate rose to 22.04% compared to February 2023 headline inflation rate which was 21.91%,” the NBS stated.

“Looking at the trend, the March 2023 inflation rate showed an increase of 0.13% points when compared to February 2023 headline inflation rate.


“On a year-on-year basis, the headline inflation rate was 6.13% points higher compared to the rate recorded in March 2022 which was 15.92%.

“This shows that the headline inflation rate (year-on-year basis) increased in March 2023 when compared to the same month in the preceding year (i.e., March 2022).”

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate in the recently concluded general elections, was detained in London by UK immigration officials last Friday.

Prof Chinyere Okunna, a well-known Mass Communications scholar and Deputy Vice Chancellor of Paul University Awka, who is also an Obi confidant, revealed this on Wednesday morning.

Obi was said to have been detained for hours and interrogated by officials after his British Airways plane landed at Heathrow Airport on Friday morning.

The UK has updated its guidelines for hiring foreign healthcare professionals.

Nigeria has been added back to the red list of nations in England’s recently amended code of practice for the foreign hiring of health and social care professionals, which means “no active recruitment is permitted.”

Other than Nigeria, the UK listed 53 other nations as not being actively sought out for employment by companies in the health and social care sector.

The man who is known as Egbon Adugbo had wagered the sum of ₦50,000 but sadly didn’t win the game; he became so furious and demanded that his money be returned to him.

Nigerian Afrobeat singer Davido revealed that he spent $2 million (equivalent to about a billion naira) on his third studio album, ‘A Better Time.’

He shared this during a media tour for his latest album ‘Timeless‘ in the United States.

Speaking on New York’s Hot 97FM’s Ebro in the Morning Show, the DMW boss clarified that this amount covered expenses for features, videos, and promotions for the ‘A Better Time’ album.


He went further to reveal that he only spent about $300,000 on his latest album, ‘Timeless,’ but has already earned more than his previous album from this investment.

In a recent podcast, the DMW boss revealed that he came across Morravey on an Instagram reel of her cover of one of Fireboy’s song and picked interest because of her powerful singing voice.

He was so attracted to the special talent that he decided to go through the comments section, searching for her Instagram handle; he stated that there were over 400 comments and he went through over 300 of them before he could find her Instagram page.

n Monday, the House of Representatives Committee on Women in Parliament voiced concern about the low representation of women in politics and government and pledged to buck the trend.

The female lawmakers claimed that little progress seems to have been accomplished despite the agitation and attempts by women's organizations to enhance women's participation in politics.

Only 92 women, out of the 1,101 candidates running for 109 seats in the House of Representatives, would be running in the 2023 elections, according to them.

During a press conference on the topic of "Women's political participation and inclusion and the 2023 general election," which was held in collaboration with the European Union Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria and some human rights organizations, including the Nigerian Women Trust Fund, the Chairperson of the Committee, Taiwo Oluga (Ayedoade/Irewole/Isokan federal constituency Osun State), raised the concern.

She also demanded the appointment of a woman as the Minister of Defence in Nigeria.

“For the first time in history, let a woman be appointed as Minister of Defence, and you will see the action; you will see a positive change in our security architecture,” Oluga said.

She claimed that in order for the country to increase its prospects of achieving the required 35% affirmative action in elected and appointed offices, the trend of low engagement of women in governance and politics needed to be reversed.

Oluga identified patriarchy, stigmatisation, illiteracy, odd meeting schedules, financing and lack of economic empowerment, cultural and religious barriers, and political violence as some of the challenges to women’s participation in politics in the country.

She, however, said that the lawmakers would forthwith step up activities on the need to check the factors that discourage women political participation in Nigeria.

The legislator said that the intervention would be backed by collaborative efforts among the legislators, development partners, civil society groups, religious and traditional institutions to remove the factors behind women’s low participation in governance.

She said, “Despite the advocacy and attempt by women groups and parliamentarians to have increased women participation in politics in Nigeria, not much progress seems to have been made.

“Going by the number of women, who are currently nominated by various political parties and are vying for elective offices in the forthcoming 2023 general election, there are serious issues of concern as it seems that the figure in the current (National) Assembly might worsen if drastic steps are not taken Immediately.

“Before the last primary elections, Nigeria ranked amongst the lowest number of women participation in governance in Africa, with about 6.2 per cent of national parliamentarians being women.

“For the 2023 Senate elections, out of the 1,101 candidates contesting 109 seats, only 92 are women. Amongst the nominated candidates across all political parties for the House of Representatives elections next year, 288 women are contesting out of 3,122 aspirants, depicting that the number of women participation in politics or contesting elective offices is on a steady decline since 2015.”

She also bemoaned the lack of any female candidates in the states of Kano, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, and Zamfara for the upcoming federal elections.

Oluga said, “The implication of this is that, even before next year’s elections in the country, it is crystal clear that 13.5 per cent of States will not have any female member in the National Assembly.

“The above development is a huge setback in attaining 35 per cent affirmative action in elective and appointive offices in Nigeria.

“The committee shall forthwith step up its activities on the need to discourage religious beliefs, cultural practices amongst other things that discourage women political participation in Nigeria.

“Also, efforts shall be directed to accelerate advocacy and funding of women economic and political causes.

“We encourage women electorates to vote for women enmasse in the forthcoming elections because women are more humane and feel the pulse of their children the most. Women and children being the worst hit by terrorism, insecurity and poverty, are in a better position to proffering enduring solutions to the societal scourges.”

Yesterday, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) announced the introduction of newly redesigned N200, N500, and N1,000 banknotes. This announcement was seen as the start of a larger currency census and the elimination of black money.

Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), said during a virtual news conference that the vast amounts of money—an estimated 80% of all money in circulation—that are not in the banking system are a source of concern.

According to Emefiele, as of September 2022, N2.73 trillion of the N3.23 trillion in money in circulation was not stored in commercial banks' vaults.

He added that the amount of money in circulation has increased by more than twofold since 2015, going from N1.46 trillion in December of that year to N3.23 trillion in September 2022.

He continued by saying that in order to solve the "daunting issues" related to cash management and stop currency counterfeiting, the decision was required.

“These (currency management) challenges primarily include significant hoarding of banknotes by members of the public, with statistics showing that over 80 percent of currency in circulation are outside the vaults of commercial banks; worsening shortage of clean and fit banknotes with attendant negative perception of the CBN and increased risk to financial stability and increasing ease and risk of counterfeiting evidenced by several security reports.”

Experts have described the action as being a part of a larger effort to restrict excessive election expenditure and remove black money from the system beneath the surface of problems with currency management.

On February 24, 2022 Russia invaded Ukraine in a major escalation of the Russo-Ukrainian war, which began since 2014.

The war between the two neighbors (Russia & Ukraine) is causing an unpleasant effect on global economy. As a result of this, Nigeria's economy as a nation is affected drastically.

This has been a hit on the head for Nigeria because Russia is Nigeria's 6th largest trade partner.

Apart from Oil & Gas and agricultural products, Nigeria also import potash which is a key ingredient in the production of fertilizer.

This has lead to shortage in the availability of fertilizer for farmers in Nigeria. Thereby, leading to poor food production in the nation.

Also, both Russia and Ukraine are Nigeria's top durum wheat exporters. As you know, durum wheat is used for the production of flour which is used for making bread and noodles.

Now, the insufficient supply of durum wheat has lead to the drastic increase in price of these food products (bread & noodles). The price of bread that used to be around ₦400 before the conflict between Russia and Ukraine started is now selling at ₦800, and the the price of noodles that used to be ₦70 is now ₦170.

In addition, the disruption of global shipment as a result of imposed sanctions on Russia & Ukraine has lead to a growing increase in price of gas and petroleum. This has lead to a high transportation rate, which people and their businesses are suffering.

The war indeed has revealed Nigeria's dependence on the outside world for survival.

And Nigeria will suffer a serious socioeconomic hardship because economy analysts have predicted that the price of staple foods will continue to increase should the war last longer.

Nigerians are indeed struggling to earn a living and survive.

There's drastic increase in the prices of everything one needs to survive; such as food, transportation, healthcare etc. And there has been no increment whatsoever on minimum wages.

These indeed are very difficult situation and conditions for someone to survive in.

There has been high rate increase in kidnapping and cyber fraud in Nigeria as claims result from the unfavorable standard of living in the nation. Indeed the economic hardship has lead so many Nigerians to go into various criminal acts such as rubbery, kidnapping, internet fraud, drug dealing etc. just to earn a living.

Nigerians should view this war as an opportunity to learn the lessons of global power play.

As war-beaten Ukrainians and Russians face existential challenges, it has become clear that states are more concerned about interests rather than about persons, even as the more powerful nations are apprehensive about their power.
