Yesterday, Nigerian women, and some men, took to Yaba Market to carry out a protest against the way ladies and young girls are being harassed sexually and social media users are reacting to it.

It was a peaceful demonstration with women asking that traders stop touching them inappropriately at the market.

Chinenye Ndubuife, who, on Wednesday, December, 12, 2018, at 70 Lawani Street, Alakoto, Olodi Apapa, Lagos, killed her co-tenant’s 2-year-old son, has given more details about why she did it.


It was gathered that Ndubuife, who lived with her mother in the same compound with the married man, Samuel Promise, had hit the child’s head against a wall and then used a stone to crush him.


It was learnt that the suspect had asked another child to call the victim identified as Wisdom Promise, whose body she allegedly dumped in the toilet.
.
According to sources, the suspect was bitter against the boy’s father who she allegedly had series of abortions for, during their secret affair.

The woman was said to have told the police that she lost her womb as a result of the abortions she had for Promise and wanted him to feel the pain and spend money on treating the boy. .

It was gathered that Ndubuife said she only wanted to injure Wisdom, but had to dump his body in the toilet, when she realised he was dead. Confirming the incident, Police spokesman Chike Oti, said it was reported at Trinity Police Station.

A young man was earlier today apprehended for stealing from air plane passengers on a Lagos-Accra flight.

An Instagram user identified as Chiny Maur (@chinymaur) has taken to the social media platform to shared a video of the moment a thief was caught stealing from passengers onboard a Lagos-Accra flight.

US Congress asks Google CEO to explain why the photo of Donald Trump comes up when you type “idiot”

When you type in "Idiot" in Google search, photos of US president Donald Trump comes up and Republicans in the US Congress grilled Google CEO Sundar Pichai about this.

Republicans allege that Google's search results are biased and that Democrats who work at Google choose liberal websites over conservative views for prime placement on Google services like Google search.

Several Republicans on the committee, including Rep. Lamar Smith, said there was "political bias baked into" Google's culture.
Democratic Rep. Zoe Lofgren gave Google CEO a chance to explain and convince them that there's no conservative bias in Google.

Lofgren said to Pichai:
Manipulation of search results - I think it's important to talk about how search works. Right now, if you Google the word 'idiot,' under images, a picture of Donald Trump comes up. I just did that.

How would that happen? How does search work so that that would occur?

Pichai replied:
We provide search today for - anytime you type in a keyword, we as Google, we have gone out and crawled and stored copies of billions of webpages in our index. We take the keyword and match it against webpages and rank them based on over 200 signals, things like relevance, freshness, popularity, how other people are using it.

And based on that, at any given time, we try to rank and find the best results for that query. Then we evaluate them with external raters to make sure, and they evaluate it to objective guidelines, and that's how we make sure the process is working.

Lofgren added:

So it's not some little man sitting behind the curtain figuring out what we're going to show the user - it's basically a compilation of what users are generating, and trying to sort through that information.

And Pichai replied:

Last year we served over 3 trillion searches. Just as a fact, every single day, 15% of the searches Google sees, we have never seen them before.
So this is working at scale. We don't manually intervene on any particular search result.

The Ahmedabad cybercrime police on Monday, December 9, busted a racket involving six members from Nigeria, Uganda and India.

According to the complaint filed by one of the victims, one Nigerian national identified as Lawrence Okosun,40, sent Kheradiya a friend request on Facebook claiming to be based in London.

The two exchanged phone numbers, started chatting on WhatsApp and became friends. After winning his confidence, the accused informed the victim that he was looking for a business partner in India to help him acquire raw material for his cancer research.

With promises of high returns, the accused appointed an agent in India and lured the victim to buy one litre of "Crenulata liquid vv extra solution" worth Rs 5 lakh as a sample from him. The solution was supposed to be raw material for cancer research.

Over a period of time, the accused made the victim transfer a total of Rs 30 lakh in different bank accounts to procure raw material for the research.
The six accused then transferred the deposits into their bank accounts.

After a complaint was filed at the cyber crime police in Ahmedabad, the accused was traced down in Maharashtra and arrested.
Investigation revealed that the Nigerian accused had formed a gang along with John Amokhole, 36, a Nigerian, SheshamNashaba, 22, from Uganda, Gittanjali aka Sona Suraj Dhakolia,24, a resident of West Mumbai and Sagar Tusiram Gupta, 27, from India.

The probe revealed that the gang had defraud defrauded at least 21 individuals in various parts of the country.
On December 9, cyber crime officials arrested the six accused in Maharashtra and seized 23 phones, four laptops, a WIFI dongle, a Walkie phone and 11 sum cards from them.

A Nigerian girl was said to have taken the life of a typical Nigerian abroad. In the viral video, the Nigerian girl was seen exchanging words hot hot with two white kids when a play turned dirty.

The children were playing a Minecraft in the class and all of sudden the two white kids accused the Nigerian of taking their turns.

That, aggrieved the young girl and they started exchanging words to a point of threatening to beat them up after telling them of having smelly mouths. The heated argument lasted for minutes with the Nigerian girl displaying the stuff she's made of...

Former President Goodluck Jonathan, has said that he cannot take responsibility for the abduction of the Chibok girls in April 2014 as he does not control the terrorist group.

Recall that Boko Haram members stormed the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, on April 14th 2014 and abducted over 200 girls.

Speaking in an interview with BBC on Friday November 30th, Jonathan said he did all that was expected of any responsible government to do immediately the girls were abducted.

"Immediately the Chibok [schoolgirls] issue came up, we expected Nigerians to be concerned. ‘How do we get these girls out?’ Within a couple of days, we saw people going to the US with Bring Back Our Girls placards. How? Why? And of course, Mrs Obama received one of those placards. I cannot take responsibility for that abduction. I don’t control Boko Haram. They are criminals.

"But as a president, of course you know it’s not the president that goes to the fields. You have security and intelligence officers that do the work. Let me admit that yes, maybe they do their best, but their best was not good enough for us to recover the girls. That I cannot say I am right or I am wrong. That does not mean I am trying to remove myself from any blame.

Yes I may not be blamed for the action, but I could be blamed that my security and intelligence systems were not strong enough to be able to rescue the girls.

The Nigerian Army has noted with great concern the deliberate and concerted efforts to mislead the public by some people through misinformation. Thus creating erroneous impression of the Nigerian Army through inaccurate and false publication of casualty figures on the unfortunate attacks on some of its locations in the North East.

The latest of this worrisome development was the attack on our troops location at Metele, Borno State, in which some persons and media outlets continued to circulate various wrong acounts and inaccurate casuality figures of own troops without efforts to verify from the military.

This is coming at the heels of our release of 28th November 2018 in which we gave accurate details of the attacks and casualty figures in a bid to set the records straight and inform the public true account of things. We also promised to continuously carry the public along through accurate and timely information dissemination on operations and other activities of the Nigerian Army in the release.

However it was observed that the trend continued unabated. Most of these inaccurate, false reports and fake news were aimed at denigrating the leadership of the Nigerian Army.

Regrettably, the rate at which some mischievous persons ignorantly attack the Armed Forces of Nigeria, especially the Nigerian Army is very alarming and unfortunate. This is deliberate attempt to demoralise the Nigerian Army which would have devastating consequences on troops' will to discharge their constitutional duties especially in the fight against terrorism and insurgency, thus affecting national security.

We would like to warn all those mischief makers to keep the Nigerian Army out of their politics and mischief. Journalists and media platforms should be professional and accurate in their reportage. The achievements of the Nigerian Army within the last three years are glaringly obvious, therefore, whatever recent temporary setbacks we experienced in the course of the fight against terrorism and insurgency should not be the yardstick for condemning these laudable three and half years' accomplishments.

We have however identified the few unpatriotic harbingers of the fake news on the attack at Metele and would take appropriate legal actions against them. This is to ensure that the Nigerian Army is insulated from propaganda and ulterior motives of destabilising the country. The Nigerian Army is quite aware that the perpetrators through these acts are covertly supporting terrorists and their activities in Nigeria with a long term objective. We are also aware that they want to use insecurity to scuttle and subvert the democratic process in the country.

Consequently, we would like to state unequivocally that no amount of mischief or pressure would circumvent the journey to a peaceful, free and fair general elections in Nigeria. We therefore need the continued support, encouragement and understanding of well meaning Nigerians as we deal decisively with the remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists hibernating at the fringes of our borders with contiguous countries of Cameroon, Chad and Niger Republic.

We are committed to the defence of the territorial integrity of Nigeria. We hasten to state that we will continue to be professional in our assigned roles and remain apolitical at all times. Once more we warn mischief makers and proponents of misinformation and fake news to desist from the such practice and join other well meaning, law abiding Nigerians to support our Army to countering terrorism and insurgency in the country.
