Three persons lost their lives while eleven others sustained various degrees of injury in a road accident when a Mazda bus somersaulted, near Makun city on the Lagos/Ibadan expressway on Friday.

Mr Clement Oladele, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun, who confirmed the incident, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abeokuta on Saturday that the somersault was preceded by excessive speed, tyre burst, and the driver’s subsequent loss of control.

Oladele further explained that the bus, with registration number FST 578 XM, somersaulted many times, leading to the death of three persons, while 11 others sustained various degrees of injury.

“Three male adults, eight female adults were injured, while one male adult and two female adults were killed in the accident,” he said.

The FRSC official said that the injured victims had been taken to Idera Hospital in Sagamu, while the bodies of the three people who lost their lives had been deposited at the morgue in Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu.

Oladele urged motorists to drive with standard tyres.
He also advised them to use their day time running lights, due to poor visibility, common in the early morning and late evening hours.

Troops of the Nigerian Army participating in Exercise EGWU EKE III (Python Dance) in Sokoto on while on routine patrol on Wednesday ran into a group of hoodlums causing mayhem, extorting and threatening the lives of innocent citizens along Sokoto – Gusau road.

Major CLEMENT K ABIADE, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations who revealed this in a statement said seven of the suspects were apprehended and were being profiled.

He identified the suspects as Auwalu Shehu Muuritala Garba, Jamilu Bello, Abubakar Aliyu, Musa Abubakar, Zayyanu Aliyu, Bashir Sarkinpawa.

According to him, items recovered from the alleged hoodlums to include five machetes, two knives, two catapults, two long sticks, one tyre ream, three bottles of Codeine and sizeable numbers of stones.

“Preliminary investigation is ongoing and the suspects will be handed over to the appropriate authority for prosecution on completion,” the Army spokesperson said.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen TY Buratai in 1 Battalion, Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State had on the 8 of January 2019, simultaneously activated Operation Python Dance in the North West geopolitical zone with the deployment of troops in all Divisional Areas of Operation for internal security.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it would devolve Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) collection to Registration Areas and Wards across the country, from Jan. 16.

The commission said in a statement by Mr Festus Okoye, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, on Friday, in Abuja, that the deadline for collection of PVCs was Feb. 8.

The statement said that decision on the issue was taken at the commission’s weekly meeting held on Thursday in Abuja.

It recalled that INEC carried out Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) between April 27, 2017 and Aug. 31, 2018 during which a total of 14, 281,734 new voters were registered.

It stated that subsequently, the commission printed the PVCs of the new registrants and delivered them to the states.

It said, “Collection of PVCs by the public which is being done presently at the Commission’s Local Government offices is to be devolved to the 8,809 Registration Areas/Wards from Jan. 16 to Jan. 21 (including Saturday and Sunday).

“After Jan. 21 collection of PVCs will revert to the Commission’s Local Government Offices and other designated centres to be determined by the states until Feb. 8, being the last day for collection.

“There will be no extension for the collection of PVCs after Feb.8. All uncollected PVCs will be retrieved and kept in a secured place until the general elections are over.

“There shall be no collection of PVCs by proxy.”

The commission said that in the spirit of transparency, it would give account of the number of PVCs collected and the balance from previous registrations.

An unidentified middle-aged man was in the early hours of Saturday found hanging from a tree on Catholic Mission Road, opposite the Court of Appeal in Lagos Island.

The man, clad in Ankara native attire, was found hanging on a rope which looked like a braided long scarf, tied to a fruit tree.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent, who was at the scene of the suspected suicide, reports that the episode drew the attention of a mammoth crowd who stood in groups chatting and wondering what could have pushed the man to hang himself.

Policemen at the scene of the incident confirmed the happening, but told NAN that they were not allowed to comment on the issue yet until proper investigation was carried out.

They said they would not loosen the noose around the man’s neck or search his pockets for identification purposes until doctors arrived to confirm him officially dead.

Some of the people, who had gathered at the scene, busied themselves taking pictures, but no one could identify the man hanging from the tree.

Mr Ige Adedoja, a resident of the area, who was at the scene of the incident, said that traditional rites needed to be performed before anyone could loosen the noose from the man’s neck.

He said that he met many people at the scene and that no-one but doctors could confirm the actual time of death.

The man was still hanging as at press time.

Yinka Badmus, a 24-year-old photojournalist with Talk Village International, has been arrested and remanded in Ikoyi Prison, over his dreadlocks, which some policemen felt made him look like a cultist.

Badmus, who had just bagged a scholarship, was arrested for committing no crime by policemen attached to the Lagos State Police Command Anti-Cultism Unit.

His boss, Stephen Oguntoyinbo, said he received disturbing phone calls from prison warders, urging him to ensure Badmus, who is now critically ill, was granted bail and taken to hospital to ensure he did not die.

He explained that Badmus was arrested on December 31, 2018, while eating noodles at Pedro Bus Stop, Gbagada, where he lives. It was learnt that after he was detained, the policemen refused to allow him to contact anyone.

While he was in detention, trying to convince the policemen that he was not a cultist, friends and family had become frantic with worry, searching for him. Badmus’ whereabouts was eventually known after a detainee, who was granted bail, contacted one of Badmus’ relatives.

He had already spent three days in police detention, contravening the stipulated instruction that every suspect must be charged within 24 hours. Oguntoyinbo said: “After days in detention, Yinka was able to send a message to a close relative on January 3.

He was found at the station. The information given by the police was that he was arrested because of his hairstyle. I was asked to come to Gbagada Police Station on January 4, to bail him and see the officer in charge of his case.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Chike Oti, confirmed Badmus’ arrest. “Badmus was arrested along with others for unlawful gathering. They were arrested with a bag of Indian hemp,” he said.

Josh Melaye, the son of embattled Kogi state Senator Dino Melaye has accused Nigerians of hypocrisy and ingratitude.

A young and promising Nigerian woman has been declared missing in the United Kingdom by security operatives.

Officers are appealing for information on the whereabouts of a missing woman from east London.

Yewande Osunsanya, 25, left her home in the Langdon Park area of Tower Hamlets at around 12noon on Saturday, 5 January.

She was seen by a friend in the Hackney area and may have been heading to the Stratford in Newham.

Yewande is vulnerable, and is not believed to have a mobile phone, bank card or cash on her.

She is a black woman, around 5ft 5in tall, of slim build with black and brown braided hair and glasses.

The Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos state Police command have arrested the young man pictured above for theft.

According to a tweet posted on their handle, the young man snatched the phone of a lady in a commercial bus.

He was given a hot chase by RRS men who sighted him. When he was arrested and searched, the phone was found inside his pant.

The police say he would be arraigned in court soon.

Nigerian football coach, Gernot Rohr has given Victor Moses some conditions to return to the Super Eagles.

The 28-year-old was a crucial part of Chelsea’s 2017 Premier League-winning side and in 2013 won both the Europa League for his club and the Africa Cup of Nations for his homeland.

But the winger quit the Super Eagles aged just 27 after the Russia-hosted World Cup where defeats by Croatia and Argentina dumped Nigeria out in the first round.
Moses said he wished to concentrate on his club career and his young family.

Rohr said Moses had always acquitted himself well for his country and had announced his retirement too early.

“We have to respect his decision. If he changes his mind we will welcome him back,” said Rohr.

“But he has to find that motivation within himself to come back and be ready to give his 100 percent at all times, as we know he can.

“Then of course, it is important that he gets back to playing regularly at his club and get his sharpness back.”

Moses was a regular at Stamford Bridge in the last two seasons when Antonio Conte steered the Blues to the English Premier League title in 2016-17 and last year’s FA Cup.

But he has fallen out of favour with new manager Maurizio Sarri and made only a handful of appearances, prompting talk of a move away from Stamford Bridge.

On Tuesday, a police inspector identified as Mohammed Usman allegedly shot and wounded two drivers in Lokoja, Kogi State over alleged refusal to give bribe.

The incident was said to have occurred at the Ibro Motor Park, opposite the Lokoja International Market. Ibrahim Yakubu, the branch chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), said that trouble started when one of their drivers was stopped by a police team at a checkpoint in Zango area on the Lokoja-Okene highway and ordered to offer them a bribe.

According to him, the driver refused and continued on his journey towards Lokoja. He, however, added that the policemen chased after the driver to the Ibro Motor Park.

“We were just sitting at the park at about 11am, when we started hearing sporadic gunshots. The next thing, we saw one of our fellow drivers run to the union office. The next thing, we saw two policemen follow him. Our union officials addressed them and they left.

The driver said he left his vehicle by the roadside and when we went there, we met a police inspector inside the vehicle. We told him that we are taking the vehicle to the park and he followed us inside. On getting to the union office at the motor park, we told him that we had already settled the matter with the other two policemen.

Upon hearing that, he (Inspector Mohammed Usman) became furious and brought out his gun and first shot on the ground. As he continued his sporadic shooting, a bullet hit one of our drivers, Mohammed Attah, on the leg, while another driver, Emmanuel, was hit in the stomach.

Following the incident, the other policemen stationed outside drove into the park with their hilux bus, and quickly rescued the inspector and drove out.

We then went to B Division Police Station to report the matter and the DPO followed us with the victims to Federal Medical Centre and from there we went to the state police command, to report the matter. The CP has ordered that the policemen involved should be detained until the outcome of victims in the hospital.”

The spokesman of the Kogi State Police Command, William Aya, who confirmed the incident, explained that the policemen who were on stop-and-search operation stopped the driver, but that he refused, and as a result, they pursued him, on the suspicion that he might be carrying incriminating items.

He added that the driver got to a town near a motor park and abandoned his vehicle by the roadside and ran into the park. He said one of the policemen went after him, and that in the process, there was a misunderstanding which led to accidental discharge.

Aya said that the policemen involved have been detained, while the matter is being investigated by the State CID. He added that appropriate sanctions would be taken against those found wanting, at the close of investigation.

A yet-to-be identified driver of a Bus Rapid Transit vehicle belonging to Primero Transport Services Limited, who was said to be driving under the influence of alcohol, reportedly knocked down a naval officer’s wife, Bilikisu Adedoyin, at Irawo bus stop, Ajegunle, Ikorodu Road, Lagos State. .


43-year-old Adedoyin, who was on her way home before she was knocked down by the BRT bus with number plate EKY 160 XR, was taken to the emergency unit of the Ikorodu General Hospital, after allegedly being denied care by two private hospitals.

One of the commuters in the bus, Paul Chinedu, who said attempts to caution the driver, who was alleged to be drunk, proved abortive, added that the concerned authorities should caution the drivers of BRT buses in order to prevent the reoccurrence of such accidents. .

He said, “I was one of the passengers on the bus; I had been complaining about the driver’s speed and the fact that he was drunk, but he did not listen. When he spoke to me, I perceived the strong smell of alcohol from his breath. Suddenly, another bus emerged and the woman (Adedoyin) was on the road; the driver could not control the speed of the bus and that was how he knocked down the woman.

“The most annoying part was that when he jumped down from the bus to see what had happened, he took the next available motorcycle and ran away. Those in charge of the BRT buses need to caution their drivers to reduce their speed while driving on the BRT lanes, and to watch the way they live, because the driver was drunk and that was why this accident happened.”

Two persons have been intercepted carrying $2.8million cash at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

The men were arrested by the officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Enugu Zone.

The suspects, identified as Ighoh Augustine and Ezekwe Emmanuel, claimed to be workers of Bankers Warehouse.

The EFCC said the two men concealed the cash in two suitcases, containing $1.4 million each.

According to a statement by the commission, they were arrested at the departure lounge of the airport on Thursday night while about to board an Arik Air flight to Lagos.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed that they have been in the business of conveying cash for “some notable banks”, for over six years and were in the process of doing same for Union Bank Plc, located at New Market, Onitsha, Anambra State, when they were caught.

The suspects further confessed that they had so far carried out such assignments, “four times this year”.

They will be charged to court soon, EFCC spokesman, Tony Orilade said.

A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja has ordered the immediate release of Deji Adeyanju, Convener of Concerned Nigerians.

Adeyanju was taken to Kano a few days ago to stand trial for an old case, for which he had been discharged and acquitted by a court in Kano years ago.

He had been arraigned before a Kano Magistrate Court earlier during the week, and remanded in custody. The court had adjourned till Friday, December 21, 2018, for hearing on his bail application.

However, counsel to Adeyanju, Mike Ozhekome (SAN), had filed a suit in an Abuja court, seeking the enforcement of Adeyanju's fundamental human rights.

Delivering judgment in Abuja on Friday, the presiding judge, Justice Sandhi, ruled that the allegations brought against him do not warrant his being kept in detention, and therefore ordered his immediate and unconditional release by the Police.

The matter was adjourned till January 7, 2019 for hearing.

But in a separate ruling, the court sitting in Kano ordered that Adeyanju should be remanded in Police custody.

Ruling on the matter at the Chief Magistrate Court in Kano, Hassan Fagge said he lacked the power to take hearing on the case, and issued an order for Adeyanju's remandment in custody till February 6, 2019 when the matter could be heard at a higher court.

Nigerian singer and record producer, Duncan Mighty, has revealed that he wants be a running mate to Omoyele Sowore, the AAC presidential candidate.

In a video posted on Instagram, wave-making Port Harcourt-based singer, Duncan Mighty, expressed his interest in being a running mate to the presidential candidate of the Action Alliance Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore.

The 'Fake Love' crooner described Sowore as a “very intelligent Nigerian youth” while noting that his vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Ahmed Rufai - a doctor and public health expert, is not doing enough on the campaign front.

Duncan Mighty said,

“Nigeria needs solution experts who are able to go into the street. A man like Sowore needs a man like Duncan Mighty to tell him whatever you say can be done.
“Someone was telling me that Sowore already has a vice-presidential candidate and I went to his page and realised that this guy is a doctor and he has only 15 posts of pictures.

“He is supposed to let us know, as a doctor, that Nigeria should be the leading health nation. Nigeria should be that nation where everybody from outside should come have the best healthcare. For this reason, I will demand a debate.

“It is high time we realised that it is not only when Mr President travels that the vice-president should work. Go to Sowore’s page, you will realise that he has over 543 posts concerning how Nigeria is going to get better.”

Mighty said he believes in the candidacy of the Sahara Reporters publisher and that Nigeria needs people like him.

Wizkid And Dammy Keane Finally Reconciles


In the early stage of the careers of Dammy Krane and Wizkid, they were buddies, but that ended in 2016 after the duo reportedly exchanged blows in the popular Lagos club, Quilox.

It was reported that the fight ensued because Dammy Krane alleged that Wizkid stole the song, Baba Nla, from him after paying him a visit at home.

Since then, both artistes have not been seen in public together until this year when they were pictured together. Few months ago in a chat with Saturday Beat, Dammy Krane spoke about how he reconciled with his old pal.

He said,

“Wizkid and I went to an event and from there we went out together. It was from there that we became friends again. I have forgiven him because it is just one song and we would still do songs together.

We would still do one or two things together but you need to understand that we are all getting to different stages of our lives.”

Wizkid and Dammy Krane reconciled on Monday night during a concert in Abuja. The two hugged each other and gave out some love on Stage.
Dammy Krane who shared the electrifying moment on his IG page wrote;

This is coming days after Wizkid equally reconciled with Skales his former label colleague.

As earlier reported, former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal, Alex Badeh (retd.), died on Tuesday from gun wounds he sustained when his vehicle was attacked by gunmen on Abuja-Lafia Road. He was said to be returning from his farm.

President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki has reacted to the assassination of Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh who was assassinated along Abuja-Keffi Road while returning from his farm. Bukola Saraki who reacted to his strange assassination via his official handle wrote;
