Then you fulanis of Nigeria should keep to the same route in your territory. You don't give pig farmers free land to rear their pigs... or do you? I know your type very well and I'm well prepared for you.
I wont engage you anymore, you do not have the IQ to agree to disagree without succumbing to personal attacks. I am not even fulani, but i can see you do not have the maturity to engage in civil disagreement. There are more matured people on nairaland.

I was angry when someone attacked you that you will die when you move cattle to the East. Nigerians are becoming intolerant which one another and the scale is becoming alarming. Very soon, I will be writing to National Assembly about tribal bully in Nigerian online space and to set law against it. You can bully race in America and go Scot free.

Nomadic farming practice just have its on own drawbacks as we move into a modern society. Herders children lack basic education. And that has continued some economic and security concerns for everyone’s. Food prices are so high because no one goes to farm anymore in fear of herders attack. These are real issues. We buy petrol and gold in world market price. We can buy beef also. Our chicken price is already more than world market price. Cow is not any cheaper in market even with free 2 yr feed. Cattle with good feeds takes 12 -14 months to maturity. The number of deaths associated with cattle rearing is enough to stop herding!
All your comments are valid, i only write out of concern for fellow Nigerians, personally i have nothing to lose as well. There is an amount of tribal hate in Nigeria that has risen to astronomical proportions even more than inflation of food items. The minute you speak in favor of fulani, the assumption is you are a fulani and the attack begins, even if you say "water is good to drink", it will be attacked and people will call you names. Nigerians need a lesson on how its okay to agree to disagree. There is nothing wrong with that. We don't all have to share the same views on similar issues. Everything is going up to world prices without world-like wages. Its is really getting bad.

The level of lies and deceit you guys churn out just to have your way on grabbing people's lands is sickening.
If the far north is truly a desert region, how then do they produce farm produce during the dry season? What is all the Fadama projects sponsored by the Federal government about. All the dams built up in the far north also dry up in the dry season right? You're pathetic.
I'll also want to let you know that we know Niger republic has over twice the number of cattles Nigeria has which means that they are doing better in cattle production than Nigeria especially you lots in the far north. The same dryland of Niger feeds over 40 million cattles but you want to deceive people that your North West and North East can't feed the 18 million cattles in your area. You must think we are dumb.
Geographically, Niger is just north of your own territory and even drier than your own land yet the produce more cattle. This shows that you're a liar and definite up to no good with your false claims about the dryness of the far north of Nigeria.
During the dry season, pastoralists in Niger Republic often follow established transhumance routes to ensure their cows have access to grazing land and water. Here’s an outline of a typical route:

1-Departure from Northern Regions:
Cows start in the northern regions of Niger, such as Agadez or Tahoua, where the dry season hits hardest and pastures dry up quickly.
2-Southward Movement:
Pastoralists begin moving south towards areas with more consistent water sources and vegetation.
Common routes include traveling towards the Sahelian regions, such as Maradi, Zinder, and Dosso.
3-Along the Niger River:
One key route follows the Niger River, which provides a reliable source of water and green pastures.
Pastoralists might move through areas like Tillabéri, where the river flows.

Please keep the discussion civil. Thats the only way i can be sure i am not discussing with a mad man. This is the internet.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria To Spend Nearly $4 Billion On Fuel Subsidies This Year by malali(op): 2:33am On Jun 07, 2024
A Call for Transparency: The Nigerian Government Must Clarify the Fuel Subsidy Issue

The recent draft document reviewed by Reuters indicates that Nigeria is projected to allocate 5.4 trillion naira ($3.7 billion) in 2024 to maintain stable petrol prices, a 50% increase from the previous year. This sharp rise comes amid an economic crisis exacerbated by President Bola Tinubu's decision last May to abolish the costly petrol subsidya move that, while praised by investors, has led to soaring petrol prices, increased transport costs, and rising inflation. Despite these pressures, President Tinubu remains committed to his economic reforms, which include relying on imported petroleum products due to low output from state-owned refineries.

However, the Nigerian government’s approach to addressing these challenges has been shrouded in secrecy, leaving citizens in the dark about critical issues that directly affect their daily lives. Are we paying a fuel subsidy or not? If we are, how are we accounting for international fluctuations in oil prices? If not, why does the expenditure keep rising? These are legitimate questions that demand honest answers.

As Nigerians, we have the right to know the truth about our country's economic policies. The government's lack of transparency is not only frustrating but also undermines public trust. It is high time for President Tinubu, as the leader and Commander-in-Chief, to instruct his Minister of Information to clarify these issues unequivocally. We need clear, honest communication about the state of the fuel subsidy, the reasons behind the increasing expenditures, and the broader implications for our economy.

Secrecy breeds suspicion and discontent. Transparency fosters trust and cooperation. The Nigerian government must choose the latter. We deserve honesty, clarity, and accountability from those we have entrusted with our nation's future. It is not just a matter of good governance; it is a matter of respect for the Nigerian people.
PoliticsNigeria To Spend Nearly $4 Billion On Fuel Subsidies This Year by malali(op): 2:28am On Jun 07, 2024
Nigeria is projected to allocate 5.4 trillion naira ($3.7 billion) in 2024—50% more than the previous year—to maintain stable petrol prices. Additionally, the country plans to borrow an extra 6.6 trillion naira to address budgetary deficits, according to a draft document reviewed by Reuters on Thursday, shining a light on the country’s troubled refinery industry.

The "Accelerated Stabilisation and Advancement Plan" (ASAP), developed by the finance ministry in collaboration with private sector leaders and economists, aims to tackle challenges posed by recent economic reforms intended to stimulate growth.
President Bola Tinubu's decision last May to abolish a costly petrol subsidy, a move praised by investors, led to a threefold increase in petrol prices, higher transport costs, and rising inflation, causing public discontent. Despite pressure from labor unions, Tinubu remains committed to these reforms. Since July last year, petrol prices have remained fixed, despite two currency devaluations. Nigeria continues to depend on imported petroleum products due to the low output from its state-owned refineries.

"Given the current rates, fuel subsidy expenditures are expected to reach 5.4 trillion naira by the end of 2024, compared to 3.6 trillion naira in 2023 and 2.0 trillion naira in 2022," stated the finance ministry in the draft document.

Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga noted that President Tinubu received the draft on Tuesday, highlighting that it is a proposal with suggestions for enhancing the Nigerian economy.

Analysts suggest that if the president approves the policy, he may issue executive orders to implement its recommendations. These recommendations encompass the power, oil and gas, agriculture, and healthcare sectors, with provisions for business support. Nigeria's economy has been sluggish, growing around 3% annually, well below the 6% growth target set by Tinubu when he assumed office last year.
The draft policy document proposes the government sell equity in its refineries by May 2026, increase the excise duty on beverages, and introduce taxes on single-use plastics and sweetened beverages to generate revenue. Furthermore, the government aims to boost oil production to around 2 million barrels per day by December, up from the current 1.4 million, to improve cash flow and close revenue gaps.

I agree that not all herders are troublesome, but the numerous troublesome ones are causing enough havoc. There are drought resistant grasses that can be planted and with the help of a little irrigation they'll do well. I have one of such planted on my farm for feeding my goats so that my goats wont eat other farmers crops. We must not insist on an option that puts other farmers at risk just to satisfy herders. Instead of advocating for my goats to be roaming around and be nuisance to others I've spent extra money to cater for my goats. Herders should do same. They should stop using the cost of production to force others to suffer and cry.
I like your solution, can you give us example of the drought resistant grass ?

Nobody asked you to change breeds of cattle. Lol the notion the herders are that profitable is hilarious. If you're making so much profit, then a ranch shouldn't hurt that much. It's one big upfront cost. If they are profitable like you're suggesting they shouldn't be hungry like you stressed to be earlier.

Feeding a cow for 2 years is not upfront cost ?
Do not trivialize the capital intensity.

I'm not sure why it should affect the cost of beef. Perhaps you will say the initial cost of ranch setup would be high and limit the number of people who can start.

But let me also ask you, what do you think about the number of lives lost daily due to herders/farmers clashes in the South?
What do you think about the cost of crops as crops are constantly being destroyed by cows? Is the cost of crop production affected by destruction of farm crops?
Ranching i capital intensive, people are complaining of chicken feed talkess of cow feed. I thought you said you were a farmer. You dont know to feed a cow to market prices is expensive in a ranch ? Do you know, grass doesnt grow in the north in dry season ?
I am devastated with deaths from the herders causing trouble, however not all the herders are troublemakers.
I am suggesting structured designated grazing routes.

Hope you are very educated and you know that most global best practices of things are the safest and best.
Read up about other nations especially the advanced ones like USA,they have had problems with herders too but the almost perfect solution they eventually accepted is this ranching system you are against.
Dont you cringe when a life is lost unjustly the way your people kill farmers who have sweated day in day out on their farms just for cows to just destroy their sweat in an hour or so?
I am appalled and devastated when a life is lost,I am intellectually aware on worldwide farming practices.
I am not against ranching. I however see the removal of beef subsidy.
We clamored for oil subsidy removal, we clamored for floating the forex......where are we today.
Now people who have zero idea about raising beef are clamoring for beef subsidy removal.
I will be 100% honest we cannot afford ranching. Its capital intensive and the margins will be smaller
I still think structured designated grazing areas is the way to go.

Ordinarily no one hates herders, if they do, it won't be just because they are herders or they attend to cows. The problem is that they cause too much trouble. They deliberately feed their cows on farmers crops, they attack farmers and often rape women they find in the bushes. You guys should not only be concerned about feeding your cows. The cows are not more important than the inhabitants of the south. If they were to just feed their cows on grasses without destruction of farms and harassment of people, I don't see why people will have problem with them.

I'm typing this as a farmer in the south who has had a little experience with these people. They used to bring their cows to feed on peoples crops in my farm area at night until they banned them from moving about with their cows at night.

Thanks for your input ?
What do you think about feeding a cow in one spot instead of grazing ?
Will it affect the cost of beef ?

All over the free world, people in cattle breeding buy their farm, fence it, buy straw to feed their cattle, use artificial insemination to impregnate their cow, milk the cow every morning and every evening, milk collected every morning to milk depots where dairy products are made, and cattle for beef are taken to designated abattoirs for slaughter.

Your analogy no follow.

Cows who are always being marched from one point to another take longer to fatten.

The broiler chicken matures for consumption with enough meat between 2,1/2 to 3 months. Its free range counterpart takes anywhere from 6 months to one year and will have less meat.

Ranching is the way to go. They should go and learn newer husbandry methods.

Thank you.

Ranching is akin to removal of beef subsidy.
Protein malnutrition will rise among the vulnerable population.

Kogi state struggled to pay minimum wage but we saw the figures, Yahaya bello misappropriated.

Raise your cattle in the North, transport and sell nationwide, they have no business in people's farms.
I hope you learnt how to be rich from your schoolmate so that your own child doesn't tell poverty tales like this on nairaland in the future.

With the trillions pilfered from government coffers by your elites/ cow owners and generated from the criminal business of kidnapping and terrorism perpetrated by your people, you can set up irrigation for grass farming in vast areas of land in the North. That will solve the problem of having to migrate so as to go and cause wanton destruction of lives and properties in the South. If you people don't stop this madness, very soon Fulanis will be an endangered ethnic group in Nigeria. That is guaranteed. Buhari is no longer in charge.
