Islam for Muslims / Re: Photos Of Sick Nigerian Pilgrims Lying Helplessly In Saudi Arabia Hospital. by maleeks(m): 8:41pm On Aug 14, 2017
Saifullah01:
How is this a picture of pilgrims sick and lying around. Saudi government dedicates all its hospital in makkah and madina to treating pilgrims, beside the mobile hospital and clinic that are all over. Also each state in Nigeria goes with its medical team and supplies apart from the federal government contingent.

These bloggers and online news are really degrading journalism with lazy reporting. For starters which state in Nigeria do the pilgrims in the picture come from, which 'hospital' are they lying around in.

Here is a more apt and accurate caption for the pictures : "kaduna state pilgrims sit in lobby of a building after a hot day in the holly land" - and yes that is the uinform of kaduna pilgrims

Properties / Re: Buying Land From Omonile Or Estate Company, Which Is Better In The Long Run? by maleeks(m): 8:42pm On Jul 01, 2017
MrMcJay:

How many people here on Nairaland who bought land from real estate companies have been able to build on their plots?

How many companies selling land here on Nairaland with 'Excision under processing' have gotten theirs?

How many estates have valid legal documentation for parcels of land that they sell?

I'm a property lawyer and I have conducted due diligence im behalf of clients with regards to several estates being advertised here on Nairaland. Many of them don't have valid documents, some use C of Os to scam people, some aren't processing any Excision that they claim to process.

There's a particular estate being sold here on Nairaland where the company is fraudulently using a C of O not related to the land. Buyers aren't aware of this because they didn't get their own Surveyors to the site before paying. They're pouring millions of naira for an estate with phantom documents.

Unfortunately, the greatest scams by real estate companies are in the Ibeju-Lekki axis. They have packaging but they're hardcore fraudsters.

As for the Omoniles, some may land-grabbing, property reselling scammers who have defrauded many Nigerians, but there are ways of handling them. In fact, as a lawyer, I can't buy a single grain of sand from most of these real estate companies as I'll rather buy from the omoniles.

Very soon, I'll have to open some threads here on Nairaland to expose the scams being perpetrated by these Omoniles and real estate companies selling land in Nigeria.

mzirawo:
CBN BOOSTS FOREX MARKET WITH $413.5M
source: http://www.eyesoflagos.com/2017/06/cbn-boosts-forex-market-with-4135m.html

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has intervened in the inter-bank Foreign Exchange market to the tune of $413.5 million, further underscoring its resolve to guarantee liquidity in the market as well as shore up the international value of the naira.
Giving a breakdown of the Bank’s latest round of intervention on Monday, June 12, 2017, the CBN Acting Director in charge of Corporate Communications, Mr. Isaac Okorafor, disclosed that the CBN offered the sum of $100 million to dealers in the wholesale window, while the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) window was allocated a total of $28 million. The invisibles segment was allocated the sum of $25.5 million to meet the needs of those requiring forex for Business/Personal Travel Allowances, school tuition, medicals, etc.
According to Okorafor, the Bank also yesterday released the figures for the auction sales in the retail window last week, totaling $260million.
The CBN spokesperson said the Bank was optimistic that the Naira will continue its strong run against the dollar and other major currencies around the world, considering that transparency in the market has ensured greater stability.
On the Bank’s objective to achieve convergence between the forex rates at both the inter-bank and BDC segments, Okorafor said the CBN was confident of achieving the goal soon, particularly if all stakeholders played by the rules. He therefore charged all dealers, principally licensed Bureaux De Change (BDCs), to abide by the rule, for the sake of the economy.
Meanwhile, the naira continued to maintain its stability in the FOREX market, exchanging at an average of N362/$1 in the BDC segment of the market on Monday, June 12, 2017.

CBN Unveils 36 Items Approves for Forex
EYES OF LAGOS TV 9:49 PM BUSINESS

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has come out with 36 items considered valid for foreign exchange access.
In a circular dated May 17, 2017, signed by the director, Trade and Exchange Department of CBN, W. D. Gotring, the bank said it was in response to the misconception emanating from the recent circular on items valid for forex allocation, stressing that the 41 items remained banned.
But stakeholders affected by the policy have reacted to the bank’s decision.
Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) said the concession by CBN for 36 items now included for foreign exchange would further lift the manufacturing sector out of the present economic doldrums.
Reacting to CBN’s list of 36 items valid for access to foreign exchange in the foreign exchange market by the apex bank, the MAN president, Frank Jacobs, who spoke with EYES OF LAGOS ,said that though the association was yet to get the details on the list, it was commendable.
“It is a step in the right direction, bearing in mind that those companies that have invested in the country, but could not produce due to lack of raw materials, can now get raw materials and commence production,” he said.
The MAN president said the lift of restriction on those items may not be unconnected with several representations the association has made to CBN on the need to reconsider its position on the restriction placed on 41 items.
He said MAN had broken down the list to 95, out of which it had made case for 42 items, noting that the 36 must have been out of the 42 banned items.
“Information we are getting now is that only 36 items have been released; we are yet to get clarification. But those items must have been those not available because we do not have the capacity to produce them.”
The CBN had in a circular to all banks and the general public, explained that the list of the 36 items valid was released to clarify misconceptions about details of the 41 items banned from accessing dollars in the foreign exchange market.
Business / Re: Cac Closes Manual Registration Of Companies In Five States by maleeks(m): 7:51am On May 23, 2017
BrandSpurNG:
The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) on Monday announced the closure of manual process for company registration in five states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Business Day reports that the announcement was made by the Registrar-General, CAC, Bello Mahmud, during a media briefing held at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Mahmud said the states involved are Enugu, Kaduna, Kano, Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Abuja. He added that the move was part of the efforts to improve the business environment and make Nigeria an easier place for businesses to thrive.

He said the implication of the closure is that the commission has now phased out the physical submission of new applications for registration.

As a replacement, he said a Company Registration Portal had been created where those seeking to register their companies can upload their applications online.

He added that the online registration process is cheaper, faster and more convenient as transactions could now be conducted from anywhere.

Business / Re: Why Is The Whole World Dependent On The Dollar? by maleeks(m): 3:16pm On May 06, 2017
wadetaw202:
Before the WWII, gold was used as means of foreign exchange and the value of a country's currency depended on how much gold reserve they have...that brought about the idea of Gold Standard.

But after WWII, the world economy was in shambles. The whole of Europe, which was dictating world economy then, went into postwar economic shambles. The only country flourishing and with a great measure of economic balance and strong and stable currency was the united states. This forced the world to adopt the strong and stable US DOLLARS as the currency for measuring world economic growth.

That was when the IMF was established-to borrow European countries money to rebuild their economies after world war II economical damaging effect. The IMF was US brainchild and also instituted by the US. And the monies they borrowed these European countries were in US dollars. That was how US stole European economy, since the European countries became indebted (by US dollars) to a US-controlled IMF. You will agree that stealing European economy is synonymous to stealing world economy. In one word, that was how Jacob overthrew Esau till today.
