bbaby84: Why do you like giving false information? This is my second child and all my husband did was go to notarize the form DS -3053 at the nearest court. I'm not saying it can't be done at the embassy but the embassy is not the only option.
http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/english/passports.html . You both are right. It's dependent on the state you are birthing in, not all states accept court or lawyer notary but you can be sure they will all accept the one done at the embassy anytime. I hope this settles it |

Truth is, people are different. I trAvelled at 34 weeks plus and I used Emirates to LA. Asides from prayers, my pregnancy had been uneventful that is no complications. I was drinking water on the plane like person wey magun catch and I kept walking around sote everybody on the plane knew me. Journey was long but I made sure I was as active as possible and kept the fluids going. Immediately I got to LA. I made sure I rested for a whole week without even stepping outside. Use your prenatal drugs, rest well before the trip and immediately after and biko drink plenty water. God will continue to protect is but if your preg has been a bit eventful then please leave earlier |

Whites15: Hello MamaTobenna, Thanks for the update. Please let us know about the accommodation once you have spoken with the doctor. Regarding the hospital, the one I had been told about is Centinela hospital. What is the name of the other hospital he is affiliated with, I would be interested to know for comparison purposes. so appointment is over. Name of hospital is St Francis Lynwood . I am told that another hospital is about to acquire them by next month so I want to quickly go and pay before the price increase. As for the doctors accommodation, he stopped doing it cos he did not get patients requesting but he said he is willing to do it again if he gets interested patients. |

I am told he offers accommodation as well so I will try ask him for you guys interested. Seems I might change hospital sef as the nurses just gave me info on the other hospital he is affiliated to. 2700 for vaginal and it includes epidural already o and paediAtrician. I can't believe it yet but will visit the two hospitals and make up my mind. |

So I am a bit rested. Time for poe story. I travelled with emirates. Journey was long and service wAs fantastic. They changed my seat to where I would have leg room and to walk around. Meal voucher was given during the layover in dubai. POE was Los Angeles. Border officer no give me issue. Conversation lasted 5 mins if not less. BO: how long are you here for Me: 3 months Bo:why are u here Me:vacation and baby Bo:which hospital Me : I told him Bo: how much do you have Me: stated the exact amount above 10k Bo :who is helping you with the birth Me: told him hubby is coming later close to the birth. He basically stamped me in for six months and wrote FINCON or something like that on my landing card cos I declared above 10k and I declared some food items. Went on to sec inspection, queue was a bit long and slow moving. Eventually got to the sec officer, he asked me how much I had, I told him and then gave me a form to fill. He then asked if I told them at the embassy that I was coming to give birth, explained to him I was not pregnant then and I had been to the states the previous year with my family. He now said ok. He asked what food I has, I told him garri explained it in English. He said do I have meat, I told him no that I know it's forbidden. Told me to keep all my receipts, entered some things on his system and told me to goooo. Na so I enter Los Angeles my people.
So what tips can I share, prayer is key and start from now before you even travel. When we landed, I was so tired after the long journey. I just told God that I have prayed about this and all I want now is manifestation of the answered prayers cos I was too exhausted to even pray. 2. Walk around the plane often and drink plenty water. I was the only obvious preggy on my flight. Everyone knew me cos I dey waka ehn. From beginning of the plane to the end. 3. Be truthful and declare what u have. I also believe that declaration of the money distracted them a bit from searching my luggage for food items.mine might just be unique though. No single document was checked. Looking forward to my appointment with the doctor and to having my baby. Thanks for all I got here as the knowledge is awesome. Will keep updating as I progress in this American baby project |

nelly2012: Thanks. I appreciate Chloe. Yea, I know California is very expensive but it's definitely not easy to birth where you don't have family support esp a caesarean delivery. I've been through it before now. I want to leave my options open & do a wide research. Someone had a baby in San Jose, Cali. Bill was fair. I believe they'll be something like that around the Bay area. I am having my baby in Los angeles though and I got a pretty fair deal considering without cost of accommodation |

Nita2013: Hello mamatobena and beauty, that's not applicable to all hospitals. I had my baby in MIHS and stayed in d hospital for almost 48hrs b4 my baby was born. D two nights starts to count after d baby is born and not when u get to d hospital. A lady gave birth there also by 11pm and her 2nights started counting from the next day cos to them any delivery after 10:30pm to 11pm is not counted as one night (a nurse told me that).
Also as regards labour and contractions, in
As regards d freebies, it varies with nurses. But we got stuffs like medela manual breast pump, baby blankets, diapers, wipes, formula, belly band, baby clothes, nipple cream etc . Thanks. I guess it is dependent on the hospital. It is well |

beautyx5: Hi mamatobenna,
You are not admitted to the hospital until you are 4cm's dilated. I went in to LandD and they hooked me up to machines and checked me and all that but it did not affect my bill even if i wasnt 4cms at the time
however it may be because my labour progressed and before they could send me back home i was already 4cms... lol
I was also advised by my doctor that if my labour starts at say 8pm the previous day, i should try to wait till 12am before checking into the hospital. The reason being that the remaining 4hrs of that previous day already counts as 1 full day and takes away the advantage of having a full day from your package. Hope you understand? Lol
Cheers! Yeah I understand o.very well sef . thanks |

kizluv: What I know is, they would try to go over the phone with you, ask questions l, about your contractions ans try to be sure it is true labour before they ask you to come to the hospital. I wouldn't know much dear, lemme include this to my question sheet for the doc. Sorry I can't be of much help... oh pls let me know when you have an idea |
Travel › Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by MamaTobenna: 12:00pm On Jan 23, 2015 |
thanks Phema and kizluv. When labor starts, will they allow one to wait a bit in the hospital lounge while labor is progressing before checking patient in. I am asking this cos you know the way they do packages where u cant be on admission for more than a particular number of hours or else , you may have to pay extra. |
Travel › Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by MamaTobenna: 9:54am On Jan 23, 2015 |
kizluv: Are they really freebies, or included in your bill. It depends on the hospital, one friend of mine said she got breast pump, books n CD's, baby formula, Extra Baby clothings (caps, mittens, socks and flannels, another friend of mine got a cheap car seat (but what is $20 compared to 5k+ she payed )but ask if they are to be paid for . Someone I know had a baby in Maryland through CS, the nurses came and asked if she wanted assisted every night , for 3 nights , after everything she had an extra $600 bill for overnight care for baby. thanks Kizluv. So the best thing is not to be too shy to ask if anything they are giving is free before one ends up with unnecessary bills |

Flowers: I had my baby last week and she had jaundice. Bilirubin level was 7 and we were asked to go home first day if we wanted but husband said we should stay till next day. Next morning bilirubin lthy baby is better than worrying about the money my sister. I was scared too at first. You will need to see a pediatrician immediately after discharge for check up next day so pediatrician visit cost should be budgeted for. First child too had it. Thanks. Will just pray very well and hope for the best. Hope your baby is fine now. |

anonymousmum: Hi Mama T,
There are 2 types of jaundice, the physiological type ( i.e "normal" ) type which typically shows up on the 2nd day and usually clears without any issues within 2 days or so.
The 2nd type is pathological (abnormal) jaundice - which is usually a sign of an underlying problem with the baby's liver/bile clearance mechanism, however there are many causes.
There is not much that you can do before birth really, like your doctor said. All you can do is pray about it...
Also because your first child had it does not mean that your second child is likely to develop it.
Hope this helps thanks anonymous mum. Na to keep praying remain. It is well. |

Please house. I am scared of something I. What happens if baby has jaundice. I am seriously praying that my child won't have big my first child had jaundice when he was born. That's some serious extra money. Docs said there is nothing I can do to avoid it than to pray that my child does not have it. I know someone mentioned it sometime ago and how they called the social worker when she insisted on leaving withe her baby. Biko who else has any experience with this to share as per implication on costs and all |
