nora544: I see you know nothing because do you know what the clit is for a woman that is the same when i cut your joystick, but it is not only the clit what they cut, it is most more or should the womqan not have a good feeling when she is together with her husbande or it is only for the man who should have this. The type of FGM you speak of is very common in East Africa. It's called infibulation and, as you said, deals not only with the cutting off of the clitoris but also the cutting off of the labia and sewing shut, sometimes with thorns...often with thread. It results in all sorts of health problems. |
Fulaman198: I really like and respect the way you think.Likewise brother. There are a couple of us on here who have self-respect. Fulaman198: What really infuriates me is when I hear Africans trying so hard to speak with a British or French accent. It is embarrassing. They don't realise that Europeans/Oyibo/Whites won't accept them for pretending to be something they are not. It is better to be yourself than something else.So true. They will never be respected by the people they admire. No one respects a person who lacks self-respect. No one accepts a person who fails to accept himself. But perhaps being treated like a faithful dog is good enough for them. |
Fulaman198: Quoted for truth. I don't understand why some Africans think it is better when they try to act European.I'm honestly taken aback when I found one who isn't. Let me qualify...I'm surprised to meet "educated" Africans who don't idealize European culture and rank it above their own. Our education still has it base in the colonial curricula that proceeded it...especially in Francophone West Africa. In school my father learned more about Russia than they did about Benin. Omission of our cultures in our own schools implicitly transmits the idea that our cultures are irrelevant. If that is what they want to do, then that's fine. However, they shouldn't try to impose these views on people who are truly proud of their culture, their heritage, their blood, their language, their traditions, etc.The idea that Africans should be proud of our cultures is something that never crossed these lost causes minds. They can't even fathom the idea that everyone wouldn't want to be European as they do. If my children turn out like them I don't know what I'll do. |
Vicjustice: So, how is this antagonistic attitude any better? You don't seem to be able to wrap your head around the fact that Africans who love ourselves don't also necessarily hate non-Africans. Pride doesn't translate to antagonization of others. However it does translate to a demand for respect. We also demand that people acknowledge Europeans' actions and the results of those actions. You see the results in the mirror every day: a self-hate that refuses to recognize itself. You keep chasing European women so that in 3 or 4 generations none of your offspring will look anything like you. They certainly won't act like your ancestors. The prospect fills you with hope! Don't try to call it antagonizing that I have made the opposite choice. |
ababda: Dear, it is not only a west African Thing. My family is from North Sudan, and Egypt, and it is pretty much alive and well there. However we don't use FGM which is a western term, we say Pharaonic circumcision. I do agree with you that the practice needs to end, by educating local women, who are the ones that mainly promote this practice. The type of FGM practiced in Sudan and other parts of East Africa is exactly why it needs to be called FGM. The kind that is practiced in West Africa is tame in comparison. I just can not comprehend the type of brute who performs infibulation But East African women will have to end that if they wish. Thank the ancestors we (West Africans) don't have to suffer like them. |
1 shortblackboy: a whole latin is all but extinct na our own una dey talk. its all part of civilisation. nobody speaks d language of the ancient Eyptians eitherLeaving our languages behind has nothing to do with being "civilized." |
ababda: Now, you can say it is about female subservience (fgm), but that is from a western point of view. Due to the fact that older women in my former country are the ones that mainly promote this practice or better yet known as pharaonic circumcision hence the possible origin of the practice. No it is not a western point of view my dear. It's the point of view of a woman who enjoys sex and who knows many other West African women who will never enjoy sex because of what was done to them. I know FGM is carried out by women. And it is us who will have to put an end to it. Not westerners with too much time on their hands...full-blooded, right-minded, African women like me. |
kandiikane: I am sorry, how silly is this comment. For your information, i am an african and I am most certainly sure I have more knowledge of this issue more than you. Now, what exactly is eurocentralism. Which western world delves in the mutilation of female Instruments? Please do not come across as daft. If nothing is wrong with ethnic marks then nothing is wrong in vaginal mutilation right? I am certainly sure, if you had such hideous scars on your face and you will have a different opinion. Tradition, do you know how such things affect you socially, physically and mentally. Unless, you have gone through one of these traditional scars you have no grounds to stand on.FGM and scarification are two very different things. FGM is done to promote female subservience and diminish female sex drive. When practiced as infibulation it can result in shock, death, a lifetime of painful menstruation, complications during childbirth etc. Scarification, on the other hand, is done to beautify both males and females of all social levels. It is done to help identify ethnicity. It is not considered hideous by those of us who do it. I have heard of no cases of shock or death. There have been infections but getting your ears pierced can also result in infection. Btw it's eurocentrism not eurocentralism. |
KidStranglehold: I say deal with it.This is how I choose to deal with it. |
KidStranglehold: Still I'd much rather get a needle than a knife. Just my opinion. In the west kids are forced to view homosexuals as normal functioning members of society, violence is glorified from dusk til dawn, sex is used to sell everything from deodorant to fruit, and foul language is spewed in the popular "music". Don't you have enough to worry about in your own sick culture? Your opinion is not really of any value here. We do this in Benin as well. You don't know the significance of scarification. It's one of a million things lost in the diaspora and if you're happy about that loss then be happy but don't expect those of us who didn't lose to give a damn about your opinion. |
Im glad they still take Tribal Marks seriously in South SUdan. We in NIgeria have become spoilt. even if hurt by a pin , we start crying. I know many SOuth Sudanese University students studying in Uganda, etc. and they all have those 6-7 forehead marks and they are normal about it. Each scar represents a duty of fullfilment towards manhood. You will have the 7th mark only if you are last born. This is for the Nuer. The Murle (enemies of the Nuer), usually make space in the front incissor teeth.
Beautiful! |
PAPA AFRICA: even though the comparison looked nothing alike. The longer you feed this troll the longer it stays around. Ignore him and he'll have no one to talk to but himself and then perhaps he'll do it offline rather than on. |
AbdH: Spend more time with your people and develop interest in their language.Absolutely! |
You seem to be keeping grudges against white people, but don't exaggerate your claim
[sarcasm] I can't imagine why Africans would hold grudges against Europeans. They've been so good to us and continue to hold us in the highest esteem, especially when aided by lackeys like you. [/sarcasm] |
macof: HE was a pagan. His family's God was Allah.Very interesting interpretation and 100% correct. |
beejaay: nigeria case is realy pathetic i tell yaIn that case keep in mind that there are many people who believe vodun and orisha are really the same spirituality. So if you are Yoruba and agree you are invited to look one to three houses over as Togo and Benin have many traditional people. |
beejaay: i live here in naija. U wanna give me one??wil surely look up to itUnfortunately the only Nigerians I know are the ones met in Benin and the U.S. I've spent most of my life in the U.S. I lived in Benin for maybe three years altogether. However there were so many traditional people there. Is it really so hard to find practitioners in Nigeria? Even the villages? |
FOLYKAZE: lol. You said you took chick from your team. Asking if she is pagan or atheist.Oh...I'm a woman. My husband is traditional. |
FOLYKAZE: She is Orisafunke or atheismblessing?? Are these posters on nairaland? |
FOLYKAZE: My galfriend is a good christian. I know how I play my game. LolYes indeed you know how to play. Well done. Me I picked a player from the same team. |
FOLYKAZE: Yeye......you got fishes? Ma bring my hook too?Are you married? I assume it is rather difficult to find any type of spiritual person who is willing to marry an atheist. Note I'm talking about Africans here not oyinbos. |
birdman: friend, put the kool aid downI think what he's having is significantly stronger than kool-aid and perhaps comes in a pipe or is rolled in paper. |
beejaay: i dont really believe in marriage (cos the meaning is long lost) but i will be very much ready to marry one. the problem is how do i get one??Where do you live? |
macof: No they didn't.Thank the ancestors those sick bastards have to wait until a woman is an adult to start treating her like a sex object. |
alnaijiri: Paganism is the part of the African mentality that has been keeping us behind as a continent. The light of Islam is needed here, nothing else can shine the light so we can stop groping in the dark.Paganism has absolutely nothing to do with Africa being "left behind." Pagan beliefs are a part of Abrahamic religions as well (Christmas, the story of Jesus, etc.). No group of people has completely disregarded their ancestors the way you'd like Africans to disregard ours. Muslims need to wake up to the idea of women being full human beings before you start worrying about the harm that paganism is doing to Africa. Muslim societies consistently rank at the bottom of all indices with regard to women's well-being. You will never succeed when you undervalue 50% of your population. Islam is 100% compatible with women's continued voicelessness which is why it thrives in countries that treat women like grass to be stepped on and mowed. Many pagan spiritualities, however, value balance. Women's voices and power is part of that balance. And that is just one of the many ways that our ways are healthier than yours. Pakistan, Afghanistan, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Niger, and Somalia are awful places where the world can see what happens when Islam is at work. By the way did they ever pass that Nigerian law to allow your filthy men to marry 9 year old girls? |
Fulaman198: I praise my fellow African brethren who do not take that route. You and me both. I praise the very few who insist on continuing as ourselves...the very few. |
mazaje: I have lived in Europe for a very long time and I have also studied their cultural evolution. . .If there is a heaven the white man will not want the black man to go there and share that heaven with him simple. . .I truly abhor nonsense the Nigerian home movies are doing, they keep demonizing their traditions and painting themselves as evil savages. . Pls how will the white man respect you when you don't like and respect your own traditions but keep demonizing it and promoting the mythologies and lies of the white man?. . .Its really pathetic. . .I honestly couldn't care less about how white people see me but when my own cousins are disrespecting our traditions that angers me intensely. |
mazaje: Christianity and islam by definition are HATEFUL religions, there is NOTHING about love in any of them regardless of how they keep repeating that their religion is love. . .Their religion is love ONLY when you believe in it, as long as you do not believe in it then you deserve their scorn and condemnation. . .There is no difference between christianity and islam when it comes to hate, they are both the same, christianity lies to it self by telling its adherent that they are in the light while others are in darkness, it makes its members feel superior to others while demonizing the others at the same time. . .Islam does the same. . .Claims that those that adhere to it are special and were specially made so by the creator of the universe himself. . .Everything about christianity and islam is geared towards the hate of the other. . .Do not be yoked with the unbeliever. . .What has light got to do with darkness. . .He that does not believe in Jesus is condemned already and on and on. . .Islam begins by saying that Allah dislikes the unbelievers and on and on. . .These religions are all about hating and condemnation of other religions, that is why our pastors and the foooooooooools in Nolly wood go about embarrassing them selves and showing the whole world that they deserved to be looked at as animals. . .The black man is a complete fooooool. Because he is the only person that has been deceived to hate himself of all the races on earth . . .Absolutely. I think this is why Christianity and Islam are so well suited to Arabs and Europeans. Everything they are requires them to hate those who remind them of their African ancestors who they have painted as the "cultural other." Our spiritualities are abhorrent to them because we are abhorrent to them. We are what they had to stop being to become what they are. |
Fulani were not Arab slaves. However, some were enslaved by the Tuareg and mixed and became todays Bella Tuareg/Black Tuareg.
I see. A Senegalese Fulani told me Fulanis were Arab slaves but he may have meant Tauregs because he usually calls Tuaregs Arabs as well. |
Fulaman198: ROFLLLLLLLL sorry I can not stop laughing, you are funny sha. I knew that that would happenMe too lol. Africans put up with all sorts of nonsense no one else would.... |
Fulaman198: Islam is the religion of almost 2 billion people my friend. It is not the Fulani religion.Didn't Islam become the religion of Fulanis because of their tenure as Arab slaves? |
