Archbishop Emeritus says government’s accusation against Biafra, Yoruba secessionist agitators can’t be compared with Boko Haram, bandits, Fulani herdsmen havoc ■ Claims large number of Nigerians do not see Kanu, Igboho as criminals Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) was brought back to the country by the government in continuation of his trial, while Igboho who is leading the call for the secessionist agitation of the Yoruba nation, is currently undergoing trial in the Republic of Benin after he was arrested in the country while trying to flee to Germany. But speaking with Sunday Sun in his Domus Pacis, Abuja residence, Onaiyekan, a former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), said that the government’s accusation against Igboho and Kanu can hardly be compared to what the country has been suffering from the activities of Boko Haram, bandits, and Fulani herdsmen that are destabilising the security of the nation. Onaiyekan maintained that the large number of Nigerians do not see the Biafra and Yoruba secessionist agitators as criminals, saying it is up to the National Assembly to kick-start impeachment moves against President Muhammadu Buhari. Your Eminence, the nation is awash with the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, and Sunday Igboho, who is also on trial in Benin Republic. What do you make of these two scenarios? Well, it is good you have put the two together – Sunday Igboho, who claims to be fighting for the defence, liberation of the Yoruba people against clear enemies, those whom he says have been harassing Yoruba people in the famous herdsmen-farmers killing, raping. And that complaint has been going on, not only in Yoruba land, but also very strongly felt in Southern Kaduna, in Plateau, in Benue and to some extent, even in our Kogi State. Although our people are not making as much noise, but I do know that my people complain that they can no longer go to farm. So, it is a general crisis. We are hearing, of course, even in the far North, the same problem. At least, in the Northeast, we already knew the exploits of Boko Haram. People have almost forgotten how to farm there, probably taken for granted now that nothing will happen there. But worst still is Northwest and North-central, places that are really farmlands, farming peoples, who are now unable to. So, you could say that what is happening in Yoruba land is not only a problem of the Yoruba people. It is a national problem. But somebody has taken it up on that level. You can say the same thing too with Kanu and his reference to Biafra. He was not the first to invoke the memories of the ideals and ideas of an independent country outside of Nigeria, secession, which led to a civil war then. Before him, there was MASSOB and after him, there is this IPOB. One could say that just as the herder-farmers problem is a national issue which Igboho has taken up very, very strongly in respect of his own people, so also, the things that Kanu, IPOB and before him, MASSOB are all complaining about, was a Nigeria that is not working well for them. But the issue is that the problem they are complaining about is also a national problem. There are few Nigerians who feel that the country is doing very well the way it is. Maybe there are some people, maybe especially now, those who are having a good time and who think the country has never been as good as they have been under Buhari because Buhari is treating them very, very well. But anybody looking at the situation in Nigeria dispassionately in terms of security, in terms of employment, in terms of economic development and so on, will all agree that we have a problem. So, what I am trying to say is that IPOB, Kanu or anybody else, they really have a case, a case we can say that what we are now having as Nigeria, they can find it no longer acceptable. Now, if you don’t find Nigeria as it is acceptable, you have two options, either sit here and fight and make it acceptable or decide that you want to opt out. Both Igboho and Kanu are saying they want to opt out. Our government should know that these people are not seen as criminals by a large number of Nigerians. And here, the ethnic aspect comes in. Kanu and co claim to be fighting for the rights of the Igbo people. We are not sure where the boundaries of these Igbo people are, which is one of the major problems. But still, there are a good number of Igbo people, especially many young Igbo, who see in Kanu, a visionary with a clear agenda. And there are two categories of Igbo that show very much interest and agreement with Kanu, a lot of young elements like Kanu himself who did not see the civil war, who did not see the first, original Biafra. Also, is the fact that Kanu made a lot of impact in the Diaspora. And there is a large Igbo Diaspora, not only Diaspora within Nigeria, that is Igbo living outside of Igbo land all over Nigeria and who resonate with Kanu’s idea, rhetoric that the Igbo man is not getting his proper due and right in Nigeria and that they have given up on Nigeria. In the case of Kanu, the leaders, elders of Igbo land, we have not seen them massively supporting Kanu. We are waiting. Here, when you look at Igboho’s case, there is a kind of linkage, it seems, between Igboho and the Afenifere and the elders there, even as far as the major traditional rulers in many places and now, even the governors are asking questions. So, when we look at these two and then, we look at the other problems of Nigeria, look at Boko Haram and the havoc they have caused and look at the other kinds of attack on the security of Nigeria from other groups in the North, some call them bandits, some call them Fulani herdsmen or terrorists. The only difference is that in the North, apart from Boko Haram that has a clear form of identity with leaders that change so often (and right now, we don’t know who their leader is), but for the group called bandits, we don’t see any leadership. And the Fulani herdsmen, the position of the Miyetti Allah is still not so clear. Whatever we say, many tend to want to agree with other Nigerians that whatever you might accuse Igboho and Kanu of doing against Nigeria, is hardly to be compared to what Nigeria has been suffering from these other elements that are destabilising the security of the nation. This is only looking at the things at the surface and the issue then becomes, where is government in all of this? It will appear that in respect of IPOB and Igboho, the government has acted in the way we expect government to act vigorously, decisively and so on. And the same government, we don’t see acting in the same way in respect of others we are talking about. That they cannot, they are doing their best, is not enough, which is what makes the thing very, very sad. These two, it is all destabilising the coherence of the nation. That Nigeria has a problem is one thing; but the biggest problem Nigeria can have is when we cannot join together to face our problem because when we are together, there is no problem in our hands that we cannot resolve. And I think this is for me, what I believe is the greatest service that the Buhari regime or Buhari himself has caused to this nation, namely, he has taken actions and inactions that have not helped to bring the nation together, but has rather polarised the nation. Markets, banks, schools, airports to be shut ■ Aba, Nnewi, Onitsha, Owerri traders lament, urge FG to dialogue with group There is growing concern in the South East following threats by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) to lockdown the entire region with effect from Monday, August 9, 2021, if its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu was not released unconditionally. This is as fresh facts emerged yesterday regarding the nature of the impending lockdown. IPOB has declared that it would be a complete shutdown, directing all markets, banks, schools, airports and other public places to close down from August 9. The group’s media and publicity secretary, Emma Powerful in a statement on Friday, explained that the lockdown will be observed Monday of every week from 6am to 6pm. He warned of great consequences of flouting the directive, saying any defaulter will have to pay a huge price. Tagged: “Ghost Mondays”, Powerful noted that it was “designed to show the world how serious we are towards this fight for Biafra freedom and independence. Everybody must adhere to this clarion call put in place by the leadership of IPOB and it would be good for everyone to know that IPOB will not relent until Biafra is fully achieved. “People are to remain indoors to register their concern over the fate of our leader and the rest of all agitators languishing in various security detentions. “Nobody should attempt to flout this directive as doing so may come with huge consequences. Anybody flouting this order is taking a grave risk.” However, mixed reactions have trailed the impending lockdown across the major commercial towns and cities of South East. While many traders and businessmen in Aba, Abia State, decried frequent closure and disruption of businesses in the region, some others in Nnewi said they would always identify with the struggle for independent state of Biafra. According to them, adhering to such lockdown will run down the economy of the South East geopolitical zone, which is grossly dependent on private sector investments. They said the Igbo, including the IPOB, would rather vouch for a speedy trial of Kanu, by the court and his acquittal, instead of disrupting livelihood of people. A textile dealer in Ekeohe Shopping Centre, Chief Cornelius Ezeokoli, said Ndigbo depend on private struggles for their families’ daily living, stressing that should they be stopped from doing business on Mondays, things would get out of hand. “We are already saddled with sitting at home on May 30th, every year, adding another day especially Mondays, the first business day of every week will be very injurious to our families. “IPOB should rethink, and do the right thing in the interest of the ‘war’ we are fighting,” Ezeokoli urged. Another trader, Chief Ibe Chijioke, who spoke in the same vein, called on Ndigbo, not to do things that will create problems for the masses at the community level. He said: “Our people rely on farming and petty trading, if they are ordered to sit at home every Monday, until further notice, who will feed their families?” Chijioke said Ndigbo will continue to support the just cause being fought for by people like Kanu, but will resist attempts to strangulate and stifle their sources of livelihood. Others who said they would ignore the sit-at-home order, should it take effect, included artisans, labourers and female petty traders in the various community markets. But a market leader in Nnewi, Anambra State, Ichie David Udemesi, has called on the Muhammadu Buhari-led government to invite IPOB to a roundtable discussion with a view to minimizing economic waste. Udemesi, who is also a former chairman of importers association in Nnewi, said though Kanu might have committed crimes that led to his arrest, yet, government should, for the sake of peace, law and order, security of lives and property, and for the economic progress of the country, sheath its sword, and address the agitators’ demands. “In the real sense of it, IPOB is capable of locking down the economic and social lives in the South East. They can do it every Monday, as they said. “FG should not neglect IPOB members in this very issue. I am not in the position to direct FG on what to do or what not to do; but it is my candid counsel that FG should look into that demand. If government is truly there for the welfare of the people, this is the right time to prove it; because, South East will be losing over N2 billion every Monday, if FG refuses to release Kanu, and IPOB fulfills its threat,” he said. Meanwhile, the separatist group said it has an intelligence report that Kanu was being tortured to death in detention. It further alleged that this was the reason the Department of State Service (DSS) has refused to grant Kanu medical attention and access to his family members. “The DSS can go ahead and keep our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu incommunicado without access to him and we observed that DSS operatives are torturing our leader to the point of death. That was why they don’t allow anybody to see his state of health in the DSS facility. “DSS should know that if anything untoward happens to him, we are going to confirm what IPOB is made of and they will understand that we are prepared for this freedom. Our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not a criminal and has the rights to be visited in their custody,” Powerful stated. The group has also called on all Igbo leaders as well those it claimed were responsible for Kanu’s detention to intervene or have themselves to blame. He said: Nobody should take our quietness as cowardice. Our intelligence reveals that Nnamdi Kanu is under serious torture and humiliation because he refused all offer given to him,” Powerful claimed. https://www.sunnewsonline.com/kanu-unease-in-south-east-over-ipobs-lockdown-threat/ |

Libyan weapons used by ISIS terrorists Boko Haram kills seven Cameroonian soldiers United Nations (UN) experts have expressed concerns over incursions of terrorist affiliates from Nigeria into neighbouring countries. The panel of experts said in a report to the UN Security Council that the terrorist affiliates are spreading their influence and activities including across borders from Mali into Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Niger and Senegal as well as incursions from Nigeria into Cameroon, Chad and Niger Republic. The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) warned that the Islamic State (ISIS) adopts a complex network of communications and roads across West and North Africa to facilitate the movements of its affiliated militants and arms. Reports from Yaounde yesterday said Boko Haram elements killed seven Cameroonian soldiers during an attack in the country’s Far North yesterday. Africa, according to the UN panel, became the region hardest hit by terrorism in the first half of 2021 as the Islamic State and al-Qaida extremist groups and their affiliates spread their influence, boasting gains in supporters and territory and inflicting the greatest casualties. They said this is “especially true” in parts of West and East Africa where affiliates of both groups can also boast growing capabilities in fundraising and weapons, including the use of drones. Several of the most successful affiliates of the Islamic State are in its Central and West Africa province, and several of al-Qaida´s are in Somalia and the Sahel region, they said. In the east, the affiliates´ activities have spread from Somalia into Kenya and from Mozambique into Tanzania, they said. One of “the most troubling events” of early 2021 was the local Islamic State affiliate´s storming and brief holding of Mozambique´s strategic port of Mocimboa da Praia in Cabo Delgado Province near the border with Tanzania, “before withdrawing with spoils, positioning it for future raids in the area,” the panel said. Overall, the experts said, COVID-19 continued to affect terrorist activity and both the Islamic State, also known as ISIL, and al-Qaida “continued to gloat over the harm done by the coronavirus disease pandemic to their enemies, but were unable to develop a more persuasive narrative.” “While ISIL contemplated weaponizing the virus, member states detected no concrete plans to implement the idea,” the panel said. In Europe and other non-conflict zones, lockdowns and border closures brought on by COVID-19 slowed the movement and gathering of people “while increasing the risk of online radicalization,” it said. The experts warned that attacks “may have been planned in various locations” during the pandemic “that will be executed when restrictions ease.” The panel said that in Iraq and Syria, “the core conflict zone for ISIL,” the extremist group´s activities have evolved into “an entrenched insurgency, exploiting weaknesses in local security to find safe havens, and targeting forces engaged in counter-ISIL operations.” Despite heavy counter-terrorism pressures from Iraqi forces, the experts said Islamic State attacks in Baghdad in January and April “underscored the group´s resilience.” In Syria´s rebel-held Northwest Idlib Province, the experts said groups aligned with al-Qaida continue to dominate the area, with “terrorist fighters” numbering more than 10,000. “Although there has been only limited relocation of foreign fighters from the region to other conflict zones, member states are concerned about the possibility of such movement, in particular to Afghanistan, should the environment there become more hospitable to ISIL or groups aligned with al-Qaida,” the panel said. In Central, South and Southeast Asia, the experts said Islamic State and al-Qaida affiliates continue to operate “notwithstanding key leadership losses in some cases and sustained pressure from security forces.” The experts said the status of al-Qaida leader Ayman al-Zawahiri “is unknown,” and if he is alive, several unnamed member states “assess that he is ailing, leading to an acute leadership challenge for al-Qaida.” ISIS terrorists using Libyan weapons in Nigeria The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) has warned that the Islamic State (ISIS) adopts a complex network of communications and roads across West and North Africa to facilitate the movement of its affiliated militants, just days after a security report revealed the terrorist organization, ISIS, currently re-deploys its forces in the Lake Chad basin and the African Sahel region. According to a report issued by the ISS, about 120 militants from Libya are expected to be permanently stationed in the region. The Geopolitical Research Center in Lagos said that “these militant and terrorist groups have benefited from the proliferation of weapons due to the conflict in Libya.” It was gathered that weapons of war are carried by migrants through the desert, passing through Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger. Seven Cameroonian soldiers killed in Boko Haram attack Boko Haram militants overran an army base in Cameroon’s Far North region yesterday, killing at least seven soldiers and wounding several others, said military and local sources. They hit the base in Sagme locality of the region by 4.00 a.m. local time, two soldiers and a local resident told Xinhua. The militants, well-armed, some of them in military camouflage, arrived in a convoy of six vehicles, one of the soldiers said. After several hours of fighting, the commander of the military base was killed alongside six of his colleagues. “The soldiers were very brave and defended strongly. https://thenationonlineng.net/un-experts-alarmed-over-spread-of-terrorism-from-nigeria/amp/ |
ERUDITE scholar and professor of International Law and Jurisprudence, Akin Oyebode (SAN), has warned the Northern political establishment against opposing the clamour for power shift to the Southern part of the country in 2023. Oyebode, who called for caution on the side of those he called “Northern cowboys,” said resisting the power rotation demand as voiced by the 17 Southern governors could mean the end of Nigeria. He said President Muhammadu Buhari, who claimed to be for none and belonging to all in his inaugural speech, has left no one in doubt that he is a Fulani irredentist who will pass into history as Nigeria’s most negative president. The Ekiti-born scholar, who spoke in an exclusive interview with Sunday Tribune, said the fault lines of ethnicity in the country have become so pronounced under Buhari, warning that it is no idle threat that Nigeria may cease to exist if the power rotation clamour is ignored. “The fault lines are becoming so obvious that if the Northern cowboys are not careful, they might bring out the demise of Nigeria. It is no idle threat because people have the feeling that Buhari is anti-South. “When a pole is bent, the only way to straighten it is to bend it the other way. So, if they want to insist that they should call the shot, it is a gambit of which they have to be very careful. That was suppose to be the original mandate of Boko haram until shekau deviated & start killing both Christians & Muslims. The report warns that Africa is now "the region most affected by terrorism" -- with al Qaeda and ISIS-aligned groups inflicting higher casualties there than anywhere else. In many areas, these groups are gaining support, threatening more territory, getting better weapons and raising more money. The UN monitors single out Somalia -- which is beset by turmoil and getting less international military support than previously. They warn that Al-Shabaab may fill the vacuum as "strategic support" to Somali government forces declines. The threat the group poses further afield is underlined by a recent US indictment against an alleged Kenyan operative who "directed by senior Al-Shabaab leaders, obtained pilot training in the Philippines in preparation for seeking to hijack a commercial aircraft and crash it into a building in the United States." The aftermath of an attack on the Afrik hotel in Mogadishu, Somalia, in January. Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility, which CNN has been unable to independently verify. The UN report warned that Al-Shabaab may fill the vacuum as "strategic support" to Somali government forces declines. Al-Shabaab is one of several terror affiliates to increase its use of drones for reconnaissance and has the ability to threaten low-flying aircraft in a region that depends on humanitarian flights to sustain vulnerable populations, the UN report says. Much of West Africa and the Sahel has in recent years been embroiled in jihadi violence. Last month Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari acknowledged the country was still grappling with a serious insurgency despite setbacks suffered by Boko Haram, whose leader Abubakar Shekau reportedly died during an attack by the regional ISIS affiliate (ISWAP) in May. The UN monitors say that while Boko Haram is "significantly weakened," ISWAP may get stronger in the Lake Chad region and try to extend its operations towards the major Nigerian city of Maiduguri. UN sounds warning over threat posed by emboldened Taliban, still closely tied to al Qaeda The human toll of these insurgencies is stunning. In June, the United Nations Development Program estimated that Nigeria's conflict with Islamist insurgencies through the end of 2020 had resulted in nearly 350,000 deaths, with 314,000 of those from indirect causes such as displacement and poverty. The UN monitors report that this year ISIS-affiliated terrorists have already killed hundreds of civilians in a series of attacks in Burkina Faso, Mali and the Niger. And al Qaeda-affiliated groups in the Sahel are making a concerted push towards the Atlantic coastline -- with Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Benin, Ghana and Togo among countries at significant risk. On the other side of Africa, part of northern Mozambique is beyond government control. In March, the local ISIS affiliate briefly occupied the town of Palma -- a critical hub in the country's drive to develop its natural gas potential. The group collected between $1 million and $2 million from the looting of local banks, the UN report says, and is well positioned for future raids in the area. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/07/22/world/un-report-global-terror-threat-intl-cmd/index.html |

The people of FCT Abuja These comprise the Middle Belt of Nigeria who are known to be the Minority tribes in the country. All by dialogues and we reach this consensus:- More awareness is still been created in order to acquaint every citizen with the new development. Today, we are recounting on a statement made by the late Sardauna of Sokoto Sir Ahmadu Bellow on the 12-10-1960 which rendered us as willing tools to the Northerners and will never be allowed to have control over our future. A move towards such dimensions will meet ruthless opposition. Fellow Middle Belters, we have come a long way to meet with the reality of this statement that even our unborn generations are scared of coming into existence simply because we excused it to manifest in us. Fellow Middle Belters, it is no longer story to mention the ordeals we have passed through in our father’s land. We are going to take them topically. We have observed in line the statement aforementioned that the reality of the statement dawned on us and is scaring our elites of all past and present to concealed it as our fate. May I say emphatically say that it was so then till yesterday. But today as we read this press statement, the scenario is different. First of all any Stake Holders, Forums , Associations, Institutions, that exist and represent the Middle Belt Region are hereby informed of the new development as an intervention measure against the past experiences. The Middle Belt Guards have come on board! Fellow Middle Belters, we have been answering being part of the Northern part of Nigeria, today we denounce anything that has to do with the North and enclave to our sole identity as Middle Belters. Whether Nigeria continue to exist as one entity or not. By this statement any of our people having any form of alliance or posts of responsibility that represent the Middle Belt in the Northern formation is null and void henceforth. We therefore call on those holding such positions whatever there may be to forfeit such inclinations and form the like in the name of the Middle Belt as it is what we can reckon with in all of our dealings and or reiterate their membership to like groups existing in the Middle Belt. Fellow Middle Belters, we are autochthonous indigenous people who are the rightful owners of the land we occupy, therefore, we are responsible for the maintenance and savaging of same for the unborn generations as our parents preserved it for us. There is heinous nepotism, land gabbing, aggression, intrudence and threatenings through Insurgencies, Terrorism, Rape, Cattle Rustling, Educational Distortion, Religious Bigotry, Lopsidedness in the distribution of the dividends of democracy, both on infrastructure and human capital development, Admissions into tertiary institutions, job offers, promotions destabilization/ temperance with traditional leadership and political appointments. There are social vices such as rape, kidnapping and the like within the Region. To proof that we have been subjected to the statement under review as paraphrased above. We have observed that the constitution of the nation is no longer binding on us yet some scrupulous undesired elements have taken a strong grip of it to manipulate us. When the constitution was still valid, we agitated for review but they objected. When it expired we agitated for Restructuring of the Nation and they still objected. Now that the amalgamation has expired they are shouting, retaining and enforcing one Nigeria meanwhile they have established their own sharia state of the sultanate since year 2000 because the maneuvered the sharia law into the constitution which brought Nigeria to dual laws for different people within the same nation. We know that all over the world, it is one law for everyone and they know it too. But because they have special interest on the land, they introduced certificates of residence to gradually abolish the certificate of indigenization. That will automatically render us to be of the same status in the land and that will warrant an overturn of settlers to become rightful owners of the land the begged for from our forefathers. Fellow Middle Belters, we observe that kidnapping have engulfed our Region with insurgent attacks, terrorism, land grabbing which renders most of our local communities homeless, hungry as farming activities are crippled, our children left unschooled as the institutions are no longer safe, our highways, communities and homes are invaded and surcharged by bandits who take pleasure in abducting people in the broad day light within the confines of their homes. We are hereby informing the perpetrators of the dastarded acts to hands- off such activities with immediate alacrity as we will not resort to negotiations of any kind if such occurs again. We don’t have confidence in the government of the day at all levels and the security operatives. This has become a necessity which is a very unfortunate situation. By virtue of our self determination, we are resorting to Referendum as a Republic following the cultural map of Nigeria. The North is free to practice their sharia law within their States without prejudice and should not contemplate forcing it on us as we will also ruthlessly object to it. We will never engage any party to a fight but will serve as peace building organization and fundamental human rights fighters in democratic and diplomatic ways. We only resort to be defensive to any further attacks on our people on self defense and we do not expect that some party would dare us into a combat of any kind again. We say no to subjugation! We say no to aggression! We say no to land grabbing! We say no to oppression! We say no to vandalism! We say no to kidnapping! We say no to insurgency! We say no to Terrorism! We say no to ruthlessness! We say no to usurp of rights! We say no to dual laws! We say no to autocracy! We say no to apartheid! We say no to bunkering! We say no to forceful unity! https://abujareporters.com.ng/new-middle-belt-group-middle-belt-guards-asks-all-representatives-of-the-zone-in-northern-groups-to-step-down-says-they-want-exit-from-nigeria/ |

The apex Igbo organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has come out with a comment on its position on the re-arraignment and consequent trial of the Biafran secessionist leader and head of the Indigenous Peoples Of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. In a communique issued after the meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, held on Saturday in Enugu and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Chiedozie Alex Ogbonnia, where current local and national issues were discussed and far-reaching resolutions passed. Ohanaeze Ndigbo stated that “ We have observed with keen interest the recent re-arraignment and consequent trial of our son, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.” Ohanaeze insisted that “in as much as Ohanaeze Ndigbo is not averse to the trial of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, we, however, submit that he should be tried within the ambit of the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and in line with global best practices.” The apex Igbo body pledged its support to his defence promising “that as part of our avowed determination to ensure the fair trial of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, we have constituted a legal team led by the National Legal Adviser of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide and eminent Igbo leaders to monitor the legal proceedings, throughout the trial.” Meanwhile, the Ohanaeze has thrown its weight behind the recent decisions of the Southern Governors on the ban on open grazing, restructuring, rotation of the presidency to the south and 5 percent share to host communities in the Petroleum Industries Bill (PIB). Ohanaeze aligned their position with that of the Igbo youths noting “that we identify with the Igbo youths in their grievances with respect to Igbo marginalisation, menace of the Fulani herdsmen, etc; however, we do not support the use of any form of violence to redress the relative deprivation and prevailing inequality and injustice across the country.” The group, therefore, urged the youths to eschew violence and advised them to be law abiding and “sheath their sword as the South-East leaders and stakeholders address these our collective grievances through meaningful dialogue and negotiations.” It further urged Ndigbo particularly the youths to take the ongoing voters’ registration exercise seriously, “as this is the only means that guarantees effective participation in Nigerian politics anda sine qua non to achieve our goals and aspirations in Nigeria project.” https://tribuneonlineng.com/ohanaeze-backs-kanu-raises-legal-team/? |
