This is what we want to hear from Amaech. Not going about begging the Republic of Niger for Nigeria to help them build railway. Niger is a landlocked country and they need us more than we need them.. |
In the tweet which he made on Saturday morning, Femi Fani-Kayode said that last night he spoke with a serving British Minister who was with him at Cambridge some years ago, and the British Minister told him that Nigeria must remain together at all costs. The reply he said he gave to the British Minister appears a bit funny. He said his response to him was that before he lectures him on the unity of Nigeria, he should let Northern Ireland reunite with Ireland, grant freedom to the Scots, apologize to India for the centuries of abuse and oppression, apologize to Africa for enslaving their continent and destroying them, apologize to China for the Opium Wars, do away with the British Commonwealth, and also stop trying to trigger the World War 3 with Russia. He said when he told him all this, the man dropped the call. https://mobile.twitter.com/realFFK/status/1380800791162843136

In 2014, I and several other Nigerian University graduates had been shortlisted to write the Presidential Special Scholarship (PRESSID) designed exclusively for First Class Nigerian graduates who wanted to pursue both Masters and PhD in any top 25 Universities in the world. President Goodluck Jonathan had set the scheme up and the idea was to build a strong team of brilliant Nigerians who will come back to serve the country years later. There were a little above one thousand of us who wrote the exam at CHAMS, Abuja. At the time, I was already lecturing in UNN, so most of my friends (who were also my colleagues) enrolled. 16 of us in total. It was a computer-based test, so we knew our fate instantly. I scored 94% in the exam. In fact, 15 of us from UNN scored between 80 and 97%. Man! We came out of the exam hall completely joyous. We were so sure we had got the scholarship. And we were right. Sometime in February 2015, the list of 101 successful candidates was shortlisted in the National Dailies. 15 of us were on that list. I had applied to Princeton University, Imperial College London and University of Toronto already. That phase of our lives was glorious. Fast forward to March, 2015. Goodluck lost the elections to Mr. Buhari. That was where things started to take a new turn. Shortly after Mr Buhari was sworn in, he recalled the list and complained that there was no single northerner on it. He believed it was an agenda of the South. Right before our eyes, meritocracy was shortchanged for Federal character. It was first like a joke, but we all lost that huge scholarship. It was worth about $250,000 per person (tuition and living expenses inclusive across 5 years). Before then, I had little faith in the country. But when this happened, I became weary of the country. Thankfully, later that year, I got a full scholarship from University of Toronto for my Masters and PhD (6 years in total). Of those other 14 friends of mine, 13 of them have also moved since then - US, Canada, UK, New Zealand, Japan etc. Obviously, we moved on, but truth is, the life we have now was afforded to us by the Government of another country, many of which will seduce you with permanent residency and citizenship afterwards. Any nation that shortchanges merit for anything else will fall. Nigeria has the brightest people, yet, we are where we are (in Osinbajo's voice). These people will corroborate my story as they were also winners of the PRESSID scholarship: Odoeze Jideofor, Okagu Ogadimma, Olikagu Sylvia, Chisom Hyacinth, Ali David, Chukwuma Izuogu, Samuel Olisa, Chima Eke and others. Sad! Chidozie Ojobor. |

Nigeria Heading for the Brink, Mohammed Warns, Urges Restraint •Meets opinion leaders tomorrow •Abdulsalami peace committee convenes today With growing insecurity across the country, secessionist agitations and ethno-religious crisis, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has warned that Nigeria is heading for the brink, urging that there is an urgent need to pull it back. “Despite huge human and material resources the country is heading for the brinks and there is an urgent need to pull it back from this catastrophe,” he said in a letter inviting leaders of opinion to a town hall meeting scheduled for tomorrow in Kaduna. Also concerned by the raging strife across the land, the Gen. Abdusalami Abubakar (rtd)-led National Peace Committee (NPC) is also convening a meeting today in Abuja to discuss the way forward. Nigeria has recently witnessed increasing insecurity, leading to the killing of security agents and innocent citizens by bandits. The security crisis has made many Nigerians and members of the international community to express concerns about the state of the nation. Mohammed, in a letter, inviting prominent Nigerians for a town hall meeting in Kaduna tomorrow said the manifestations of the general state of insecurity in the country, especially with secessionist narrative, crass politicisation of ethnic and religious differences need to be addressed urgently. He said with the situation, the country is heading for the brink. He said: “As you may observe, Nigeria has failed to manage its diversity. Despite huge human and material resources the country is heading for the brink and there is an urgent need to pull it back from this catastrophe. “Increasingly, we are seeing this lack of capacity to manage our diversity manifesting in a general state of insecurity as witnessed in the heightened incidences of farmers/herders clashes, Boko Haram insurgency, banditry, ethno-religious clashes and intolerance, cultism, drug addiction and kidnapping. “Closely tied to all these are the dangerous threat to the unity of the country and its continued existence as one indivisible nation. But the story of Nigeria has not always been this negative. How did we get here and what can we do to change the narrative to present our country in the best of light? This requires teamwork, reflecting all diversities, leveraging on all our collective creativity to pursue with diligence the project of rescuing Nigeria.’’ Mohammed added that the correct starting point towards addressing the problems is building an elite consensus on the security, unity, indissolubility and peaceful existence of Nigeria. He said such elite consensus had worked in the past and there is a need to find out why it is not working again as well as to proffer solutions because Nigeria is truly at a tipping point. In the invitation letters sent to many opinion moulders nationwide, the minister said a broad-based and inclusive town hall meeting has been fixed for Kaduna tomorrow to discuss some of the manifestations of the general state of insecurity in the country, especially with secessionist narrative, crass politicisation of ethnic and religious differences. “The proposed town hall meeting will aim at developing concrete implementable resolutions because a lot of theoretical talks and postulation had taken place with little or no requisite outcome. “The event will be declared open by President Muhammadu Buhari. Reputable scholar, Prof. Jibril Ibrahim, will be the lead presenter and will set the tone for discussion with Prof. Saka Nuru, Prof. Chudi Uwazurike and Prof Kokunre Eghafonaas as guest discussants,’’ the letter stated. The meeting is expected to be attended by the leadership of the legislature, governors, ministers, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha, Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, service chiefs, Inspector-General of Police, heads of security agencies, religious and traditional leaders and members of the international community amongst others. Similarly, the Abdulsalami-led peace committee has also scheduled a meeting of prominent leaders for today in Abuja to address what it described as the “escalating spate of insecurity, banditry, kidnapping, regional agitations, the killing of innocent citizens and other forms of violence.’’ It added that the vexed issues have continued to cause deep concern to well-meaning citizens at home and abroad. NPC said it had been receiving requests from Nigerians, urging it to intervene. https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2021/04/07/nigeria-heading-for-the-brink-mohammed-warns-urges-restraint/

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide had described the provocative killings at Adani Uzo Uwani in Enugu State as the confirmation of earlier reports of USA embassy warnings of bandits ravaging the North are heading towards south to disrupt peaceful territories and to unleash violence and terror attacks especially in the Southeast. In a statement, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro Secretary General Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide said: “The people of the Southeast now sleep with their eyes wide open as untold panic had enveloped the air,” we don’t know when Nigerian security officials will start carrying out Buhari’s Presidential orders to shot at sight anyone parading with Ak47. With the recent development yesterday in Uzo Umani in Enugu state, Ohanaeze Ndigbo urge Igbos to defend themselves against terrorism and violence from killer herdsmen, whether its ESN, Forest Guards or local hunters or community vigilante groups, we are ordering them to curb the menace using Igbo formula of Defence” This is a clarion call for Ndigbo, to realize that they are coming in their thousands to destabilize Southeast and south/south, these are killer machineries sponsored by external detractors of igbos to ensure that there are disruption of farming activities and cause food insufficiency in the Southeast so that igbo will always depend on the North for food supplies, we cannot afford allow northern bandits to succeed in the Southeast. https://www.sunnewsonline.com/insecurity-ohanaeze-urges-esn-vigilance-groups-to-chase-killer-herdsmen-out-of-south-east/ |
The governor was said to have awarded contracts to non-legal persons, even so without due process. Yahaya Bello under investigation for fraud: EFCC The governor was said to have awarded contracts to non-legal persons, even so without due process. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has commenced an investigation into the fraud allegation leveled against Kogi State government and Governor Yahaya Bello. In a letter signed by the EFCC’s Director of Operations, Abdulkarim Chukkol, and seen by Peoples Gazette, the anti-graft agency said it received a petition filed against Mr Bello and certain officials of his government. A non-governmental organisation, Anti-Corruption Network, on March 1, filed the petition against the governor, on claims that it uncovered huge financial fraud carried out in the state. In a copy of the petition shared on Twitter by former Kogi senator, Dino Melaye, the organisation detailed the allegations of financial mismanagement and corruption by Mr Bello, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The governor was said to have awarded contracts to non-legal persons, even so without due process. According to Mr Melaye, the petition was also submitted to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), U.S. embassy, British High Commission and Transparency International. A part of the petition read: “We have meticulously investigated and uncovered huge financial fraud carried out by Kogi State Government, the Governor of Kogi State and his Cohorts from 2016 – 2019, ranging from award of contracts to non-legal persons, award of contracts without due process, circumvention of procurement procedures, suspicious payments made without specific breakdown, money laundering, borrowing from non-capital market, fraudulent loan, and many others.” The organisation further urged the new EFCC chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, to use his “good office and cause a further investigation on this matter and bring the perpetrators to book.” The EFCC, in the letter dated March 26, summoned the group for an interview on March 31 at its headquarters in Abuja. The spokesperson for the anti-graft agency, Wilson Uwujaren, however, did not respond to a call seeking his comment on the investigation. Other calls for Mr Bello’s probe On March 4, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) through its National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan asked the governor to “answer to revelations by the Anti-Corruption Network that he laundered over N3.7 billion in addition to billions of naira allegedly laundered through other individuals. “Also, Governor Yahaya Bello should answer to allegations by the Anti-Corruption Network that he siphoned billions of naira through award of contracts, without due process, to Southbridge Integrated Services Limited to the tune of N624 million, in addition to five other companies which allegedly got between N22 million N129 million, respectively,” the PDP said in a statement. “Against this background, our party calls on the EFCC, under its new leadership, to immediately commence investigation by inviting all those mentioned in the report as well as prosecute any individual or company indicted in the matter.” Similarly, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) in a letter dated March 27, appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the governor over mismanagement of COVID-19 donations and support from the federal government. The governor stirred controversy in the heat of the COVID-19 pandemic, joining issues with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Presidential Task Force (PTF) to declare that the “state is not testing at all and is an absolute high risk for Nigerians to go there because there is no testing facility and even if you fall sick, there is no isolation centre, and they don’t even acknowledge that the disease exists.” SERAP, in a letter signed by its deputy director Kolawole Oluwadare urged Mr Buhari to “direct the Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, SAN and appropriate anti-corruption agencies to investigate alleged misuse of the N4.5 billion donations, loans and support the Kogi State government obtained from the federal government, including N90,720,000 reportedly spent on software to track COVID-19 cases in the state.” The organisation stated that “if there is relevant and sufficient admissible evidence, anyone suspected to be involved should face prosecution, as appropriate.” The group reminded Mr Buhari of the promise he made at his inaugural speech in 2015, where he said his administration “will ensure that the gross corruption at the local level is checked. For I will not have kept my own trust with the Nigerian people if I allow others abuse theirs under my watch.” SERAP stated: “As you have correctly stated, the obligations of your government to combat corruption in Nigeria extend to all the three tiers of government, namely, the federal, state and local governments.” https://peoplesgazette.com/yahaya-bello-under-investigation-for-fraud-efcc/ |
