PoliticsGov. Godswill Akpabio’s Easter Message To Akwa Ibomites by manpo2k(op): 11:17am On Apr 03, 2015
On behalf of my wife, Her Excellency, Ekaette Unoma Akpabio and the Government of our dear State, I share with all Akwa Ibom people the joy of the sacrificial death and triumphant resurrection of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

This season holds a special meaning for all Christians. Jesus Christ was crucified on trumped up charges of violating Roman laws. The fear of death drove His disciples to run from him, because they were afraid to share His fate. But a few days later, the same disciples were found preaching the gospel boldly, their fear of death broken because Jesus Christ conquered death.

The victory of Jesus Christ over death should liberate us from the fear of death. That He went through the humiliation He did for our sake should provide us with a lesson in public service and a template for us to place public good above our personal comfort.
Therefore, as we mark this momentous event of Easter, let us find comfort in our shared commitment to unity, and find strength in our common aspiration for a greater Akwa Ibom State. Let us think in terms of what we can do for our State and not what the State can do for us. Let us think in terms of justice, fairness and equity in this season of politics.

I am not unaware that this would be the last time I would celebrate Easter with you as the Governor of our dear State. In the last eight years I have run the race, fought a good fight of faith and I am set to complete my course. In all these years, I have sought to let all Akwa Ibom people come together not as Ibibio or Annang or Oro but as brothers and sisters and children of God. I have sought to let the example of Christ’s love for us remain the foundation of our unity.

The lesson of Easter was recently brought home to us by the statesmanlike action of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, when he opted to concede the Presidential Election in the public interest even before the announcement of the final result. By this act, Mr. President has resurrected morality, good conscience, patriotism and goodwill for our country. On this score, I wish to commend Mr. President for this powerful national lesson during this season of love and sacrifice. He lived up to his vow that no ambition was worth anybody’s blood. We should bear this in mind as we prepare to elect our next governor on April 11, 2015.

The true Akwa Ibom spirit of loyalty was tested in the Presidential Election and we acquitted ourselves creditably. We were with the President right down to the finishing line and we are proud that we turned in close to a million votes for the President. We are proud of his performance and proud of our support for him. This nation now knows that we have no place in this blessed Land of Promise for the Judas Iscariots.

I thank you for electing your representatives to the Senate and the House of Representatives. By your kind mandate, I will be representing you in the Senate hereafter, and I am aware that to whom much is given much is expected. I thank you for the confidence reposed in me.

The echoes of our principled stance that justice should be done to the good people of Eket Senatorial District, who have not tasted the gubernatorial office in 27 years of our State’s existence, should ring louder in this season of love, justice and sacrifice. Let us play politics of inclusion and not exclusion in order to give all parts of our dear state a sense of belonging in the Akwa Ibom project.

I urge all Nigerians, particularly Akwa Ibom people, to remain united in spite of the outcome of the past elections and to face the forthcoming elections with great hope. As we go out to vote, let us remember that what is sauce for the goose is also sauce for the gander. Let us show love to our brothers and sisters from Eket Senatorial District by giving them the opportuinity to taste what we from Uyo and Ikot Ekpene Senatorial Districts have tasted already. There is no greater way to show love that is consistent with the spirit of Easter than to exhibit this sense of equity and fairness to our brothers and Sisters from Eket Senatorial District.

Let the words of the late American Civil Rights activist, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. that “we are all bound in a single garment of destiny,” resonate in us. Let those who seek to divide us with politics be reminded that Christ said it was through loving one another that one can prove himself as being a true disciple.

Let the lessons of Easter, therefore, inspire us to make sacrifices for the unity and progress of our State and Nation. Let the life and teachings of Jesus Christ inspire us to strive for a world knit together by love, and a State bonded in brotherhood and a nation united in diversity. As Easter stands out as a perfect example of unconditional love, let us give unconditional love to our neighbors and share love with the less privileged.

Please accept our best wishes for a Happy Easter Celebration. God bless you all.

PoliticsPhotos: APC Stage Mass Protest In Akwa Ibom by manpo2k(op):
A mass protest staged by members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) is on-going in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital. APC protesters in large numbers are said to be approaching INEC office in Uyo.

They are protesting irregularities in last Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections by chanting
“All we are s-a-y-i-n-g, Give us our v-o-t-es!”

Among the protesters are APC guber candidate in the state, Umana Okon Umana, candidate for Abak Federal Constituency, Hon Uwem Udoma; DG of Umana Umana campaign organization, Chief Soni Udom, candidate for Eket senate race, Hon Barr Bassey Etienam and former House of Reps member of Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency, Rt Hon Bernard Udoh.

SaharaReporters.com had earlier reported that

At a press conference yesterday, Umana Okon Umana, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, showed thousands of ballot papers that voters actually cast for his party in Ibesikpo local government area, but which were isolated and thrown away by rogue staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission in collusion with officials of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The discarded ballots, which were just for the Ibesikpo local government area alone, offered an indication of the depth of electoral malpractice that characterized the polls in Bayelsa State on Saturday.

CelebritiesDestiny's Child Reunites In Las Vegas by manpo2k(op): 9:23am On Mar 30, 2015
The three best-known members of 1990s R&B group Destiny's Child reunited onstage Saturday night in a surprise performance.

Beyonce, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams appeared onstage at the Stellar Gospel Music Awards in Las Vegas for a rendition of "Say Yes," according to Billboard. The awards will air April 5 on TV One.

"Say Yes" is a song off Williams' fourth gospel album, "Journey to Freedom." Williams, who was up for several awards, kicked off the performance solo. Then, Rowland and Beyonce emerged from the shadows, cheers growing as it became clear that a reunion was in progress.

It was the first time they were together onstage since the 2013 Super Bowl. There was some speculation ahead of time that they might perform together thanks to Williams, who included Beyonce and Rowland in a tweet about the ceremony.

PoliticsRe: Presidential/Senatorial Elections Result, Jega Finally Speaks! by manpo2k(op): 10:11pm On Mar 29, 2015
Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Information has on its Facebook page released a result not made official by INEC. Would you say they committed an Electoral Offence? ‪#‎Nigeriadecides‬

PoliticsPresidential/Senatorial Elections Result, Jega Finally Speaks! by manpo2k(op): 9:34pm On Mar 29, 2015
The Independent National Electoral Commission wishes to commend Nigerians for their large turnout and peaceful conduct during the National Elections held on Saturday, March 28, 2015.

The Commission commends Nigerians for the resilience and remarkable understanding they exhibited in the face of these difficulties. We hope that good conduct will continue throughout the post-election period as well.

We are pleased that the elections went on smoothly in a substantial number of Polling Units across the country, including the North East where the Commission was also able to conduct voting for Internally Dispaced Persons (IDPs) in the 3 states of Adamawa, Yobe and Borno.

It is also gratifying to note that the Card Readers worked well in the majority of Polling Units, even though there were areas where difficulties experienced necessitated additional Guidelines by the Commission to allow for manual accreditation of voters, as announced yesterday.

So far, Osun, Kebbi, Ekiti, Adamawa, Borno, Jigawa, Anambra, Akwa Ibom and Ebonyi states have reported reverting to manual-only accreditation of voters in some Polling Units.

Investigations into what accounted for the difficulties encountered with the Card Readers are ongoing.

As a result of the operational challenges experienced, elections could not be concluded yesterday in a few polling units and therefore these will be concluded today.

According to the reports so far received, elections are being concluded today as follows:

90 Polling Units in Lagos State
16 Polling Units in Kebbi State
25 Polling Units in Adamawa State
6 PUs in Niger State
37 PUs in Yobe State
8 PUs in Borno State
37 PUs in Jigawa State
13 PUs in Kano
116 PUs in Taraba State and
2 PUs in the FCT are affected.

According to reports from our state offices, the collation of results has commenced and is going on well. The first collated results for the Presidential Election are expected at the National Collation Centre here in Abuja by this evening. Meanwhile, the Commission warns strongly against premature publication or announcement of results by unauthorized persons and media channels particularly online sites.

Only INEC is empowered by law to announce results and it is an offence for anyone to preempt the Commission in this regard.

In the course of the elections yesterday, the Commission received reports of isolated security challenges in some states that were successfully repelled. We commend the Security Agencies for their vigilance and dedication.

We also commend our field staff, especially young men and women of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and students, who form the bulk of our ad-hoc personnel, for their bravery and commitment in the face of challenges, to ensure free, fair, and credible elections.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank key stakeholders in the electoral process who devoted much effort, time, energy and resources to ensure peaceful elections.

The Commission reiterates its commitment to ensure that the elections are free, fair and credible and peaceful. We are happy that so far these objectives are on course. We call on all Nigerians to remain peaceful as they await the collation and return of results.
Thank you!

Politics5 Ways To Identify Fake Police Officer During This Election Period by manpo2k(op): 8:59pm On Mar 29, 2015
The 2015 elections are here, and desperate politicians are planning on ways to manipulate the outcome of the polls.

One way in which they can do that, is by using fake police officers to harass the unsuspecting citizens. We have had cases in the past were these fake policemen go to the polling stations and start all sorts of confusion.

If by any chance you discover a fake police officer at your polling station or around you, keep calm and inform the authorities closest to you.

Here are five ways in which you can identify a fake police officer in Nigeria;

Check the Name tag

The name tags on the Nigerian Police uniform are always permanently attached to the uniform i.e the name tag cannot be removed. So if you see a police officer with a removable name tag then you are seeing a fake police officer.

Check the Number tag

The numbers on a Nigerian police officer uniform shouldn’t be less or more than six digits. Any policeman with a number tag which shows otherwise is a fake.

Only Female Police numbers begin with “0”

Still on the number tags, only a female police officer’s number starts with Zero “0”, if you see a man with a number tag that starts with “0”, he is a fake policeman.

Know a supernumerary police officer

Supernumerary police officers are usually attached to banks, financial institutions and organizations that require their security services, please do note that they have no roles during the elections. However you can identify them, by looking on their uniform shoulder for a clear inscription of “SPY” . Another way to identify one is by looking on their number tag, a Supernumerary police officer (SPY), number must be either three or four digits long.

Know your rights!

Only a fake policeman will try to arrest without committing any offence. Only when you know your right is when you can know if you committed and offence or not, so it is very important to know your right. However, if a police officer harasses you, try to memorize his/her name by checking their tags and if possible memorize their numbers too, this will help you make a more effective report to the authorities.

HealthPhotos: Condition Swells Boy's Head To Twice Its Normal Size by manpo2k(op): 2:11am On Mar 28, 2015
The family of a three-year-old boy whose brain has swelled to twice its normal size have made a desperate appeal for life-saving surgery.

Cao Pengwei was diagnosed with hydrocephalus - where fluids build up in the brain's chamber - when he was two.

Treatment to slow the swelling has not worked and he must now undergo an operation to drain the fluid from his brain.

Cao, whose head measures more than 80cms because of the condition, has had to leave hospital in Jiujiang City, in Xiushui County, twice already because his family could not afford the hospital bills.

Speaking through tears, mum Ding Meiling said it was heartbreaking to watch him suffer.

'I've been worn out by the treatment but I don't want to give up,' she said.

'I don't have any solution now. I hope people with kind hearts can help my son.'

One to two of every 1,000 babies are born with hydrocephalus, making it as common as Down’s syndrome, according to the Hydrocephalus Association.

Although shunts are permanent, they are prone to infection and blockage, which means patients may require several operations during their lifetime.

Most of those with by the condition have impaired mental and physical ability, although the effects can vary widely.

'Doctors suggested us to arrange the surgery, but we have no money,' his father said.

'We are desperately hoping someone could help our son.' Ding adds: 'We'll save him, no matter the cost.'

CelebritiesNicki Minaj Straddles Meek Mill In New Provocative Photos by manpo2k(op): 1:28am On Mar 28, 2015
She's been getting very close to her friend and collaborator, rapper Meek Mill, sparking rumours of a romance.

And Nicki Minaj took things to another level as she straddled the 27-year-old hip hop artist in a provocative photo Instagrammed on Friday.

The photo was snapped during the 32-year-old rapper's stop in Paris as she embarks upon her The Pinkprint World Tour.

She donned only a black bra and thong underwear under a bejewelled fishnet bodysuit.

The Truffle Butter hitmaker's long thick hair was swept back in a very high ponytail as she accentuated her eyes with heavy winged eyeliner and sparkling eye-shadow.

As Minaj batted her eyelashes at the camera and opened her mouth, Mill gazed off in another direction, appearing nonchalant.

In another image, the raven-haired beauty is kneeled next to Mill as he wraps an arm around her waist.

She captioned it: 'PARISSS!!!!!!!!!!! U ARE THE FKN TRUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm obsessed. No one FUX with u!!!!!!! @meekmill thnku for cmn out boo #ThePinkprintTOUR'

Minaj also posed independently of her friend, striking provocative poses.

She jutted out her derriere while perched on her elbows and knees, with a finger poised at her lips.

Minaj also arched her back to emphasize her s-curve physique while gazing sultrily at the camera.

The Beauty And A Beat hitmaker kicked off the European leg of her world tour on March 16th in Stockholm, Sweden – while supported by special guest Trey Songz.

She will be joined by Mill as well as Rae Sremmurd, Tinashe, and DeJ Loaf for her North American leg, beginning in Texas on July 17.

The Pinkprint Tour is in support of Minaj's third studio album, The Pinkprint, which debuted in December.

She penned much of the album awhile breaking up with her boyfriend of 11 years, Safaree Samuels.

'If people knew what I've really gone through [in the last two years], they'd think I was Mother Teresa. I've taken so much s***, so much betrayal, and I still remain classy about it,' Minaj told Vogue in February.

And the newly single star has become inseparable from Meek Mill.

'Sometimes we hang out, and when we hang out, we have fun,' she addressed the romance rumours when speaking to Vogue.

'This is what I want to say about him: People think for some strange reason that we just started becoming friends recently.

'We've been friends for a very, very long time, and he's been around for a lot of things that I've gone through.'

The six-time Grammy nominee - born Onika Maraj - continued: 'I haven't had this much fun in years. Yeah, I am partying, and I am freer, and I am just enjoying myself and my life.'

EventsCross River State Youth Citizens’ Debate On The 2015 General Elections by manpo2k(op): 11:27pm On Mar 18, 2015
Generational Voices (GenVoices) in partnership with Enough is Enough (EiE) and in collaboration with British Council will run a Citizens’ Debate on the upcoming elections in Nigeria. This will be facilitated through GenVoices’ conversational platform called GenTalks.

Much of the focus of the political process is on highfaluting rhetorics that the average citizen rarely connects to. The Citizens’ Debate is therefore created for young Nigerians to articulate and present their rationale for deciding which of the candidates to support. This spins the wheel to focus on the critical aspect of the governance process; the people.

According to Cal Thomas, “One of the reasons people hate politics is that truth is rarely a politician’s objective. Election and power are.

This Citizens’ Debate is designed for supporters of the presidential/governorship candidates in Nigeria’s General Elections to articulate and present their rationale for deciding what candidate to support. It will be targeted at young audiences aged 18-35.

The Objective for this debate is to encourage Youth voter education and engagement to increase awareness about the process and encourage the use of analysis and facts in choosing elected officials. The exercise will also stimulate interest and dialogue about the elections and relevant issues.

Organized through a peer- to peer model, the Youth Citizens Debate will offer the platform for Youth Leaders and supporters of the various political parties in Cross River State to sell their parties manifestos, achievements and proposed interventions if elected to office to their peers. This will ensure a no-holds-barred and unscripted session of political conversation amongst young people.

The debate details are as follows:

Date: Friday, 20th March 2015

Venue: Kolanut Conference & Events Centre, Barracks Road. Calabar

Time: 1:00pm Prompt

Registration: To participate, send your name and email to 07038478577 or 08187508000
