The Richest DJ in The World today is Scottish DJ and Rita Ora’s ex Calvin Harris. He has topped Forbes magazine’s richest DJ list for the second year running with earnings of $66 million (€50 million).

Harris, who has worked with Rihanna and Ora, beat fellow superstars DJs David Guetta and Avicii on the list and upped his earnings by $20m on last year.

Forbes estimate David Guetta as having earned $30m, putting him in second place on their list, while Avicii is in third place with trance veteran Tiësto on $28m.

Hero fusilier Tom James was just 20 when he suffered horrific injuries including losing an arm in Afghanistan, but five years later he’s engaged. A blinded soldier who became the symbol of British bravery when he attended a comrade’s funeral just weeks after they were both blown-up by a Taliban roadside bomb has found love.

Hero fusilier Tom James was just 20 when he suffered horrendous injuries and burns after an IED went off while he was on foot patrol in Helmand province in Afghanistan.

The hidden explosive claimed the 25-year-old’s right arm, an eye and several fingers and also broke his leg, his pelvis and left him with horrific burns.

Tom’s best friend, Fusilier Shaun Bush, 24, was killed as he tried to rescue platoon commander Sergeant Simon Valentine who also died in the attack.

Tom became a symbol of heroism when he left his hospital bed and was photographed as he was wheeled into Coventry Cathedral covered in bandages and carrying medical equipment for the funeral of his pal just five weeks after the explosion.

Tom has now re-learnt how to write, walk and dress himself, and five years on, he has got a job and is now engaged to fiancée Kellie Boyle, 29, and the couple have a one-year-old daughter Evie.

The Executive chairman of Oron Local Government, Mr. Orman Esin has condemned in strong terms the recent newspapers publication and social media attack by the member representing Oron Federal constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, Mr Robinson Uwak against the person and the office of Executive Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio.

In a release signed by Hon. Esin a copy of which was made available to our correspondent, Hon. Esin said whatever may have been his grievances against the Executive governor, Hon. Uwak has myriad of approaches through which he could access the governor to iron out issues.

According to Hon. Orman Esin going by our traditions and customs, if for any reason a son has an issue with his father, it behooves on him by virtue of his placement as a son to apply decorum and humble approach in the presentation of matters.

Commenting on Hon.Robinson Uwak’s allegation that His Excellency caused to be stopped the airing of his documentary billed to be broadcast on the AIT, Hon. Esin described such as unwarranted.

Making reference to Chief Godswill Akpabio’s transformation agenda in the state, the Oron Local Government Chairman stressed that indeed the last seven years has been a rewarding one not only for the people of Oron Local Government and by extention Oro nation but also for the whole state.

Hon. Esin who rhetorically asked “before the emergence of the present administration how was Akwa Ibom?” said although no single administration can successfully provide all the dividend of democracy to the people, yet within the limited resources accruable to the state His Excellency has tried his best to develop the state to the admiration of all.

Hon. Esin added that rather than helping us as a people the continues media attack by Hon. Robinson Uwak against the number one citizen of the state may create a gap between the people of Oro and the Government, a development which will lead us to nowhere.

He called on all Akwa Ibomites within and the Diaspora to continue supporting the Governor in his strides to ensuring that Akwa Ibom reaps full dividends of democracy.

Equally, the Oron Council boss appealed to the stakeholders and well meaning sons and daughters of Oro nation to wade into the matter.

Already, numerous encomiums are pouring in from friends, family members, colleagues and admirers of the quintessential politician with many describing him as an accomplished technocrat who has been a loyal and committed team member of the Godswill Akpabio uncommon transformation team.

The event which is tagged a celebration of God’ Exceeding Grace at 50, will have as special guest of Honour, the State Governor Chief Godswill Akpabio, while the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Udom Emmanuel will chair the occasion.

Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo has announced his retirement from international football after the Super Eagles fell 2-0 to France in the second round of the World Cup.

The 33-year-old became the first Nigerian to play 100 international matches but capped it with an own goal in added time against Les Bleus.

He follows in the footsteps of Nwankwo Kanu who announced his retirement after the 2010 World Cup.

“It was a bitter-sweet moment for me but I think it is time to focus on my family,” Yobo told reporters. “It has been a long road.”

Yobo made his debut with the Super Eagles in 2001 but became a mainstay of the team during the 2002 World Cup in Korea/Japan.

He played at three World Cups and won the Africa Cup of Nations as captain last year.

“We’ve won the Africa Nations Cup and we came here and were not disgraced,” said the Fenerbahce man.

“I never thought that I’d be here because I missed the last six games of the season through injury. They gave me an opportunity but it is unfortunate what happened.

“I gave my all,” he said.

However, Yobo thinks that he’s leaving the national team in capable hands with the duo of defenders Kenneth Omeruo and Godfrey Oboabona able to continue in his place.

“They would grow,” he said. “Omeruo has done very well. Oboabona was injured but he got his chance at the Nations Cup. They’re going to get better, the experience is going to come and one of them has to take the responsibility and be a leader.”
The defender said he would like to concentrate on club football afterwards.

In a similar development, Super Eagles coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi has resigned his appointment after leading the team to the second round of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

First Bank of Nigeria Ibom Plaza Branch may not open tomorrow! Customers may be left frustrated as First Bank Nigeria PLC, Uyo may not open tomorrow following a traditional injunction placed at the entrance of the banking hall by unknown persons.

The building which is allegedly owned by Joesco Group of Companies, Uyo, is located at the heart of the town and is widely regarded as the most-patronized and busiest bank in Akwa Ibom State.

The source of the traditional injunction is yet to be known as at press time, with many believing that a fused may have ensured between the owners of the Property and the bank or aggrieved customer or staff of the bank who may not be happy with the management of the institution.

After the injunction placement, customers were seen in large numbers rushing in to cash on the ATM machine as a precautionary measure to avoid being financially incapacitated as the week begins, while some are uncertain whether or not the bank will open tomorrow following the ugly incidence.

Annie gave birth a few hours ago in a hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Annie and her lovely child are said to be doing great.

2face and Annie got married in March 2013, and already have 41/2 year old daughter, Isabella.

It was quite a gory sight yesterday morning as a Toyota Hiace bus belonging to Akwa Ibom Commercial Transport Stakeholders Association crashed into the newly completed Nwaniba Water Fountain located at Nwaniba Road by Edet Akpan Junction in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

As at the time of this report, we could not see the driver or any passengers of the bus but it is believed that whosoever drove the bus was either tipsy or drunk.

The time of this accident could not also be ascertained. The accident might have happened between 2-6am on Sunday.

However, traces of blood could be seen around the bus meaning that someone may have sustained some level of injury in the fatal crash.

We also spotted a packet of Benson & Hedges Cigarette near the bus, meaning someone was high!

It is also believed that the 'Father Christmas' figure which was placed by the water fountain as part of the Christmas decoration took to his heels on sighting the bus! We could see his damaged sledge and other metals which we think was also part of the Christmas decoration.

The bus however was seriously damaged and part of the water fountain ripped apart as a result of the collision.

Yes! Christmas is a time to celebrate but we should watch it and be very careful! After all, it's Jesus' birthday and not yours!

We recognize the sense of love, hope and joy this season brings to our State and the world at large. We acknowledge that the Heavenly Father’s generous gift of his son to mankind fulfilled age-old prophecies, and was a reaffirmation of God’s love for all of us.

We, therefore, urge you to honour this spirit of Christmas by striving to keep it throughout the New Year. We must resolve not only to show love to one another in this wonderful season, but also to let love guide our every action in the coming year.

It is only in this way that we shall realize that ancient, wondrous and angelic proclamation of “peace on earth and goodwill towards men.” The Proclamation by the angels which heralded the birth of Jesus Christ.

As this year draws to a close, we can count our blessings and know we have a lot to thank God for. As a People and a State, we have moved from the shadows of national life to the centre of national attention.

With God on our side we have recorded great successes in infrastructural development, human capacity building, economic growth, educational advancement and health care services.

Our many life-touching programmes are on course. Such programmes include our free and compulsory education and free health care for the elderly, babies from birth to the age of five and pregnant women.

We have eased the burdens of our people with various economic incentives. We have tarred over 320 Urban roads; executed over 4,000 people-oriented projects in our rural communities across the entire State under the Inter- ministerial Direct Labour Scheme; attained about 90 per cent coverage in electricity supply; commenced work on the main terminal building of the Ibom International Airport while work on the international stadium is nearing completion.

We have turned Uyo into a modern, beautiful and sophisticated urban city.

Work is on-going on the third pipe-jacking underground drainage system which will serve the Tropicana Complex, the environs of the State Secretariat and our newly-completed dualized Nung Udoe/Ibesikpo Asutan Road; a road that has caught the fancy of our nation.

My People, with God on our side, we shall deliver and commission in the New Year, many of the on-going projects.

Such would include Ibom Tropicana Entertainment Centre, Ibom Specialist Hospital, the Ibom International Stadium, the dualized ekom iman Abak road with brand new bridge and others.

A few days ago, Akwa Ibom children drawn from all the 31 Local Government Areas coalesced into a 9,999 Choir to sing Christmas Carols in praise and honour of our God. The historic event was a watershed in our spiritual rebirth.

We deeply appreciate all those who attended the event or followed it in the media. Next year, by God’s benevolent grace, we intend to continue with the festival of carols in our brand new, ultra-modern 30,000 capacity international stadium.

Let me seize this opportunity to thank the good People of this State for their support for this administration throughout this year.

As we begin the process of winding down this administration in the New Year, I urge each and everyone to pray that justice and fairness to all segments of our State be done through God’s will for us.

My dear people of Akwa Ibom State, we set out to change Akwa Ibom State, but now we appear to have become the bellwether of hope for a new Nigeria.

The wave of development in our State has elicited great commendation and praise from within and outside our Country.

Our State has become the destination of choice for conferences, workshops, seminars and retreats in Nigeria. Thanks to God, we have become a reference point in good governance and a paragon of development.

We started this journey in 2007 with a firm commitment to positively change forever, the lives of our people.

The God who brought us this far will not abandon us in the New Year. We have proved that a united Akwa Ibom can only grow from strength to strength and stronger and stronger each passing day.

Let us never succumb to the forces of divisiveness, for such forces are obstacles meant to stop us from living the rich promises of our forefathers.

Once again, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year in advance. May you go out with joy and be led forth in peace to savour the commemoration of the birth of our saviour who is the truth, the way and the light for all mankind.

Brazil will face Croatia in the Opening Match of the 2014 FIFA World Cup on 12 June, 2013!

This year's edition will be the 20th edition! Scheduled to take place in Brazil from 12 June to 13 July 2014, the 2014 FIFA World Cup will be the second time this tournament is hosted in Brazil, the previous being in 1950.

Brazil was elected unchallenged as host nation in 2007 after the international football federation, FIFA, decreed that the tournament would be staged in South America for the first time since 1978 in Argentina.

The national teams of 31 countries advanced through qualification competitions that began in June 2011 to participate with the host nation Brazil in the final tournament.

A total of 64 matches are to be played in twelve cities across Brazil in either new or redeveloped stadiums, with the tournament beginning with a group stage.

For the first time at a World Cup Finals, the matches will use goal-line technology.

Spain is the defending champion, having defeated the Netherlands 1–0 in the 2010 World Cup final to win its first World title.

The previous four World Cup Finals staged in South America were all won by South American teams.

Channel O Music Video Awards is organized by South Africa -based Channel O television channel. The awards were first held in 2003 under the name Reel Music Video Awards. Since 2005 the awards have been held annually. The winners are voted by Channel O's viewers across the continent.

The 10th Annual Channel O Africa Music Awards was broadcast live on Channel O giving music fans across the continent the chance to be part of the highs, the lows, the red-carpet glamour, the drama and the joy as the awards unfold in Soweto.

This year;s edition of Channel O Africa Music Awards confirmed its standing as Africa’s leading and most consistently exciting music awards event with a superb line-up of live acts from Cassper Nyovest featuring Okmalumkooklat, Burna Boy, The Soil, Khuli Chana, Victoria Kimani, Buffalo Souljah, Wizkid, Aka featuring Da L.E.S., KCee, Lizha James, and Mafikizolo.
