Business / Re: Fuel Subsidy Removal Causes Sharp Decline In Generator Sales In Nigeria- Traders by Maobichek: 3:35pm On Jul 21, 2023

Sodiq, a generator repairer who works near Adeoni Estate in the Berger axis on the outskirts of Lagos, said his customers hardly patronize his trade nowadays. Sodiq spends most of his workday in the Okada business to make ends meet.

Only sadists are clapping for Tinubu for the hardship.

A single policy from Tinubu is causing inflation, high transportation, unemployment, job losses and you are writing bababluu bulabuuuu.

Generator merchants are the ones praying for public power supply not to work?

The way you guys defend your corrupt leaders is amazing. Your leaders are looting trillions of naira bit the generator seller that holds no public office is your problem.

It's obvious the 'freestuff' you always advertise in your signature is 'white powder'.

Good day, i understand your plight but i must say this: easy ok!

Many people have talked about Abuja. To find love here, you must be comfortable hence you must have something doing first. Most ladies who are into POS business here are also of "easy virtue" and it's like a norm.

Please don't come to Abj without proper planning (accomodations/ money for upkeep, transportation etc). Here is costly, plan well.

GEJ even provided palliative then but he was forced to rescind on the policy because of the protest that rocked the country.

The floating of the Naira was a necessity. It was Buhari's interference that created the senseless and corruption riddled multiple exchange rate system..

To understand it well, imagine you were Buhari's son and you claimed you needed $5m. You're now supplied that $5m at the official rate of 461.

You now take that $5m and sell it at the parallel market rate of 750. Can you imagine the profit he would make? This is called roundtripping and it boomed under Buhari. If Emefiele should dare open mouth, wahala go dey.

Can you imagine how much revenue the government was losing? Imagine government gets $2b monthly which it sells at the official rate. Now, the well connected buy it to resell at humongous profits.

It also created artificial scarcity. Imagine you were sent $500. Would you exchange it at the official rate?

Now, imagine a big company is bringing in $100m? They will prefer not to bring it in. Basically, forex was scarce at the official exchange rate. It was largely an audio rate.

Yes the 70bn requested by the lawmakers is wrong. So, let's measure the financial waste in comparison to the wastes from multiple exchange rates and oil subsidy.

1. Lawmakers: N70b
2. Exchange rate. N2.4tr
3. Fuel subsidy $10bn N7.8tr

I will stop here for you to reach your own conclusions

You did well but the effects on the masses is something else, PBAT should block all lope holes and go after the real culprits. The question is: can he do that?

One step at a time ok, subsidy removal and floating of Naira at the same time is the reason why many people are complaining. In Abj today (this evening), many people that begged did not consider religion nor tribe, i did the little i could do and I'm grateful to God for the privilege.

There is no magic that any CBN governor can perform.

Tinubu started on a wrong foot and he is trying to do too many things at once. All his actions since inauguration day has brought one hardship after the other but his supporters are still living in their eldorado illusion.

Why would a right thinking president float naira and remove petrol subsidy at the same time? Do you realize the ripple effect of fuel price increase on every other aspects of the economy??

I never supported APC so I wasn't expecting much from them. But I love what is happening. People need to be taught a lesson that every choice has a consequence.

This is exactly what you get When a country decide to reward clueless party with presidency after 8 years of disaster. E go reach everybody!

Floating of Naira is the worst oh! If you have someone in Europe demanding money from you, you will understand better.

All the top 4 presidential contestants said they would remove subsidies, so there's no difference between half a dozen and 6. It would have the same consequence/

The reason why petrol price might have shot up is because of the increase in the crude oil price. Also, the CBN has not done enough to kill inflation. Until its interest rates are higher than inflation, expect inflationary pressure to remain high.

What the country needs now is a new central bank governor capable of battling inflation and given the independence to do his job.

Good evening, what can you say about floating of Naira recently and the 70b for the lawmakers? People are suffering, i saw it in a different dimension today, it has nothing to do with tribe nor religion.

From experience, I know that whenever a woman wants to report an issue, she will only tell the part that would draw peoples sympathy...

Look you're an Igbo lady (I guess from your profile name caption).. Any Igbo man knows that you must always add your wife's name to properties, if not, when you gone, in-laws would flex muscles and leave your wife and kids nothing.

Since your case is different, I believe that maybe:
1. You have taught him a lesson from a previous case of joint ownership of properties (maybe you guys bought a car or any items together before that he now regrets doing).
2. You have done same to him before now (you bought something without carrying him along)... you may deny here but in your heart you should know.
3. You may be warming up to people that scares him (say maybe a troublesome in-laws or friends) as such Oga wants to play safe

My recommendation:
1. Land or properties title can be changed or updated any time, just work to build back your husband's trust.
2. Stop or keep away from whatever gave him that scare of including you to his common wealth.

Any Igbo man knows that you must always add your wife's name to properties, if not, when you gone, in-laws would flex muscles and leave your wife and kids nothing.

Good evening, i copied the above part of your comment because it's a blatant lie. There are some part of Igbo that practice matriarchy and others practice patriarchy. My family, my village and many other villages that i know don't drag property with the widow of their late brother.

My uncle married from Ogun state and he is late, his properties in Lagos, Abuja,Aba, PH are all in the care of his wife, even his house in our village. Please stop generalizing, thank you.

Maybe you need to be taught how international politics work.

If Nigeria was serious about getting Simon Ekpa, the Finnish Ambassador would have been invited to facilitate his arrest. If s/he fails, then s/he can be expelled from Nigeria while Finland will be reported to UN for harbouring a character that is causing disruption in Nigeria.

Finland is not UK.

UK can get away with some things in international politics because it has veto powers at the UN, but not stupid Finland.

The enemies of Ndigbo are using Ekpa to destroy Igboland and you lots are cheering them on in your shortsightedness.

Good day, Simone Ekpa is a citizen over there, you remembered that they once arrested him but release him. In Europe, human right is strong so don't underestimate Finland.

I don't want to talk about Umaru Dikko issue because you already believe that UK values human right more than other European countries which is false by the way ( i have relatives in Greece, France, Germany who are citizens over there.)

If you are Igbo, I'm Igbo too, let's face the fact; IPOB brought Simone Ekpa, IPOB presented Simone Ekpa to the whole world. If you say that enemies are using Ekpa against Igbos it also means that enemies are using IPOB against igbos.

IPOB should handle Simone Ekpa and not blaming anyone because Simone Ekpa is a product of IPOB, thank you.

Nnamdi Kanu is also a British citizen whom couldn't have been arrested in UK. Buhari's government made so much noise about trying to arrest NK and even telling UK to repatriate him. The same FG lured Nnamdi Kanu to Kenya with monetary incentives and he was arrested.

Tinubu should release Nnamdi Kanu let peace reign

Good day dear, we all know the truth that IPOB brought Simone Ekpa, he deviated and fall out with IPOB before the issue of autopilot came onboard.

Sit at home has been observed in the East on 30th May every year in remembrance of Biafran soldiers but IPOB came and bastardize it.

IPOB should not cry over Simone Ekpa, they know him, they brought him. Furthermore, despite the denials here and there, sit at home in the East is affecting both the East and the Federal government, thank you and have a wonderful weekend.

Well I must say I am strongly pleased with your constructive analysis...but to be honest with u there has no tangible decisions by Nigerians so far in adjusting their spending habits.
Also, Nigerians are just ill-informed through their refusal to sift their attention to the government at their localities too...this is leading us much more to be highly impoverished. We need to question our governors, senators, reps members and others too or government should as well stop allocating them money siince such money will eventually looted by them.
The federal government ought to be the last to cry to in a sane society.
Above all, I am strongly in support of this government even though I am presently non-partisan

Good evening, i don't know where you reside but in Abj. People have adjusted, i moved round today and realize that this years Sallah can't be compared to last year and the previous Sallah celebration in Abj.

Secondly, if you drive to work, you would realize that traffic have reduced in the roads of Abj(many ppl now prefer to enter cab), and the way ppl will beg you to collect the amount they have, you will be fully abreast that a whole lot have changed.

Lastly, I'm somewhat close to few people, someone in government told me that salary is a peanut compare to allowances. Most government officials, their allowance is ten (10) times or more of their salaries. Cost of governance should be cut and some ministries/parastatles should be merged, thank you.

Thanks for your comment.

But do you honestly think that Tinubu wouldn't have been able to put measures on ground before removing the subsidy if he had us in mind at all?

He would have been able to do that but he totally ignored doing that but went ahead to hit on the subsidy removal. That's evil bro. Soon we'll enter July, what has he done with June subsidy that he's recovered? Instead, he's busy suffocating institutions that have been largely helpful.

Soon, WAEC/NECO exam fees is going to rise because they won't be getting support from the government again. They'll have to fund themselves. All the institutions that the councils he just deprived support would begin to fund themselves. What would that mean for the services they head just like the WAEC/NECO example above?

Good evening, i really appreciate your maturity and sense of humor but i must tell you the whole truth: ppl are suffering, I'm not sentimental about it. This has nothing to do with tribe/religion ok, in the last 2 weeks, over 7 grown ups(adults) called me for financial help. Many have not receive June salary oh!

I won't be too fast to cast aspersion on PBAT but the way he removed subsidy must be condemned, no palliative, absolutely nothing to cushion the effects on the masses. Nobody has protested and believe that ppl will not hence if he "failed?" He won't blame it on the masses.
Politics / Re: One Month After His Inauguration: How Has President Tinubu Performed So Far? by Maobichek: 5:34pm On Jun 29, 2023
ebenholer2:

To be real with you, most Nigerians are spendrift and this is making hard for us to cope in the situation of subsidy removal. Fine, government needs to play a strong part in cushioning the effects of subsidy removal but we have a part to play too. We need to jointly adjust our spending habits inorder to cope with the situation.
Moreso, Federal government cannot do it alone, our attention needs shifted to our governor, local government chairmen, senators, house of reps members, and house of assembly members; they all have allocations meant to be used to develop their constituencies.

Many people have adjusted in their spending (a personal observation here in FCT Abj). Adjusting is one thing but our currency purchasing power has been adversely affected via the recent floating of Naira.

The first and the most effective way of cushioning the effects of problems bedeviling Nigeria is for the government to cut down on governance, let the cost of governance be cut down and the resources be used to better the lives of Nigerians. Subsidy removal have been fully pronounced and effected on many critical areas hence cost of governance should follow suit.

You talked about shifting attention to the Senators, Governors, LGA officials etc. That is good but it has never been a norm in Nigeria. This call should have been made before now and be followed strictly. If those who fought the government while they were in the opposition took this into consideration, subsidy would have been a thing of the past even before PMB took over as the president, thank you.

You appraise a government based on their ability to make life better for the people more than the way they met them. All these things you are typing here is mere sycophantic expression.

Ask yourself how your life has been better off more than the way Tinubu met it. The funny thing is that nothing is going to soften the present hardship in the land.

I don't know why people like you don't learn nor understand but you claim to be a patriot more than anyone else. How was the last palliative during the COVID period? Keep talking nonsense there and remaining small. Keep praising Tinubu because he's your kinsman.

Good day, your second paragraph drew my attention to this thread. I know that ppl are suffering, no doubt about that; those who opposed subsidy removal during GEJ days are now preaching to us to accept it or go to hell despite there is nothing on ground to cushion the effects.

Please i advice you to give PBAT a benefit of doubt, i spend more now compare to the last administration but i choose to be positive. A better country is what we desire and i believe that Nigeria will be better, thank you.
