aswani: I actually agree with this. Onyeka had a super tournament all the way through and even in the final when all around him had a bad day at the office, he still kept his high standard.
Unlike Ndidi who is prone to bouts of foolishness, Onyeka seemed to be very composed, a future Super Eagles captain. Players in DM are ment to play dirty, Gatuso, Sunday Olisa, Onazi, kante, Makelele etc just to mention but a few. A good defense midfielder must be a fighter, running round against attackers. |

agabusta: Asides from even tactical showing, he never showed any ginger to mark or retrieve lost balls. He was damn to slow and lazy on the pitch. His lethargy in this AFCON is legendary. I wonder why the coach keeps using him. Coach did because Iwobi is good in distrusting but very weak in retrieving and defending. |
Sports › Re: Iwobi Deletes All Pictures On Instagram Account Amid Criticisms by Maobichek: 8:28am On Feb 13, 2024 |
OmoFiditi: The guy had a terrible tournament. He really made Onyeka the DM suffer.
Before the finals, I advised Iwobi to train alone and learn proper offensive passes. He was the weakest link in the midfield, hardly gives accurate offensive passes and easily lost the ball to the opposition, it happened against South Africa. It was just a matter of time before he got a thorough lashout from Nigerians if he did not improve before the finals.
Alas, he was too lazy to take the advise. Coaches should tell players who do not do well the truth. Tell them they played shiit, and should go for extra training, even when the team wins. God bless Onyeka, though some people didn't see him but he fought tirelessly against Ivory Coast rampaging players. Did you also noticed that Ndidi's absence was not felt because Onyeka filled that role perfectly. |

Bar1941: If you watched thesame Onyeka against Cameroon or Angola, you will agree with me he wasn't at his best also. Though he still did more than many in the team. Onyeka's role is to mark opponents, tackle and fought for ball, these he did absolutely well considering his tackles and prompt challenge against the Ivory Coast players. Ndidi's absence was not felt because Onyeka did well, had Iwobi and Chukwueze played their part well, Ivory Coast wouldn't have dominated the match the way the did. |

Nbote: He was the only player in the midfield even though he was poor yesterday. I didn't understand how every single player in the team starts running back towards their 18 yard box everytime the opposition is running at them with the ball. Like what pattern of football was that Onyeka was poor yesterday He fought a brave fight against rampaging Ivory Coast players. Super Eagles were outplayed yesterday but Onyeka was outstanding. |
Sports › Re: Full List: Afcon 2023 Awards by Maobichek: 12:31pm On Feb 12, 2024 |
Bar1941: Nwobi is a lazy midfielder, though all our players were lazy yesterday except Ekong and the keeper.
The coach got the tactics totally wrong yesterday. Anyway, Ivory Coast qualification as last of best loosers was divine. Since they beat Senegal, I knew they were wounder lions. Frank Onyeka was lazy yesterday? I know that you watch the final but not seeing Frank Onyeka fought everywhere against Ivory Coast rampaging players was sheer ignorance of what happened last night. |

Politics › Re: FACT CHECK: Did Tinubu Promise To Reduce Purchasing Power Of Nigerians? by Maobichek: 9:38pm On Jan 31, 2024 |
BreconHills: Thank you. It seems you believe that if the government sincerely wants to improve the lot of the Nigerian - they could. This focuses a lot on the savings and management side.
So one level this is true. Government would have to take difficult decisions. But you have not addressed the income side. Where does the money come from? Oil production would not improve immediately. In fact for NG to produce 2m bpd the estimates are that it would need $50bn in investment. This would take at least 5 years to manifest.
Ok but what about the foreign remittances from diaspora? Those are supposed to have exceeded oil revenue right? OK the thing is hardly any of that money comes in through the cbn because of the wide disparity between official and street rates. So the only way is to allow official rates to rise above street rates which is what we are seeing now. As of today cbn rates are higher than black market on 30/01/24. If that continues ( not sure) the cbn will be able to attract more usd.
The second thing is what do with the estimated $30bn sitting in dorm accounts - if the government offered a localised "eurobond" type interest paying instrument, it might flush some of that money out into productive use.
You can see that even these ideas contain big IFs. So we can expect things to be even more difficult over the next 60 days. My belief though is that speculation will be broken - I am honest to say I don't know how exactly but I do know that the government has gotten a good understanding into how so called " market forces" ( speculation) are operating. I expect speculation to crash. Book mark this.
There is no way out. Nigeria must punish speculative dealings that reward laziness and reduce the desire for real work. If it can do this we have a chance.
Expect the new refineries + dangote to create USD savings ( not cheap petrol o) which will translate into stronger reserves now that all revenues go to cbn not nnpc.
Forget the Edu's of this world. Their impact is dramatic but minimal. Let's deal with the guys pushing 5bn naira plus to buy fx God will help PBAT to succeed, as i said earlier, I'm not a political party person, i only desire and work for a better society. I will be specific on this; government need to do something about governance (cutting down costs of governance). i witnessed the "bright atmosphere" (i called it bright atmosphere because it was supposed to usher in an upheaval change in action and not just words but it turned out to be a mere jamboree) called "Change begins with me" launched by PMB. I have been privileged to be in the midst of some top government officials during PMB's days; they lived in affluence at the detriment of the masses. You talked about productivity, if you go to Nicon, Sharaton and other top hotels in FCT, you will eat foreign rice; at Villa, almost everything i saw there were imported. Government should encourage producers here, set up a "working" supervising agencies on our goods produced here in a bid to meet international standard. Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) should be encouraged, empowered and equipped in a bid to enhance our products acceptance at the global market. This will increase export and our foreign reserve will improve. |
Politics › Re: FACT CHECK: Did Tinubu Promise To Reduce Purchasing Power Of Nigerians? by Maobichek: 4:10pm On Jan 31, 2024 |
BreconHills: Yes. Please follow at @OpeBee
There are systematic problems with the Nigerian economy and for too long they have only had palliative short term measures. We've always had an economy that rewarded the lazy and punished the hardworking. First it was the indigenization Decree that enabled people become millionaires ( in those days) by fronting for foreigners. Then it was essential import licences from 1980- 1995, then it was massive never to be completed contracts from 1995 onwards.
Now it has been democratised to hoarding foreign exchange by everybody.
Productivity has been on a steady decline in all those years and now we are reaping the bitter fruits.
I am not sure it pays to blame anyone. The question is how an unproductive country that requires USD ( and has almost nothing) will fund its non productive and non productive tastes. Its not the government that has accounted for the slash in naira value. That is a combination of market forces catalysed by.
1. Under invested oil sector ( rig count has fallen from 35 in 2019 to 16 today) Rig count = crude bpd = USD
2. High US interest rates
3. Poor fiscal and monetary policies
4. Disincentives to work. E.g The new lithium company in the north will make more from hoarding USD than actually mining and selling lithium
So what is the way out? Let's start there. The way out : Policies from the government and prompt implementation of those police, areas such as finance, security, welfare/training of our security agents etc. Let me give an example with subsidy, most of the companies government paid subside on fuel importation did not actually deserve such payments. Exaggeration of figures as a result of government officials interest in those companies ensured that the will to implement and monitor existing policies were defeated. The issue of Beta Edu comes to mind, is it only appropriate to sack her while investigation can go on for months/years till everything would be swept under the carpet? What happened to appropriate sanctions,Incarceration, even death penalty (to the esteem)?etc. |
Politics › Re: FACT CHECK: Did Tinubu Promise To Reduce Purchasing Power Of Nigerians? by Maobichek: 12:33pm On Jan 31, 2024 |
BreconHills: If you want a better country then do more incisive criticism than repeating street verses.
Why is the naira falling? What in your opinion can be done? Is there any advantage in the merging of street and official rates?
Follow some of the informed people like Opeoluwa on Twitter. It will be helpful. Good day, go through all my comments, i have not criticize PBAT even for once and i hardly criticize but the reality on ground must not be swept under carpet. I have responsibilities and i know that you have also as a man. The masses are not finding it easy and now. PBAT can't blame GEJ because Buhari was there for 8 years before he came onboard. I tell you the truth, Dollar/Naira disparity is enough to make the president sit-up. In 2014, APC asked Nigerians if #216 to 1$ is ok? They told the masses to vote them in but now, 1$ is #1500. |

So na normal thing for Abuja Airport (domestic wing). Good morning, which one is "...normal thing?" The Ministry should be moved to Ikeja or Zaria, the bitter truth is that SE as a region contributes a very minute percentage to the Nigeria's GDP. Good morning, this remains opinion of the chairman board of trustees, Arewa. He only used Onitsha to hide his sentiment and parochial view about FAAN going back to Lagos.
