CultureRe: Any Nigerian Family With Absolutely No Mixed People At All? by Mapletraks:
anonymous6:
I don't think it is that simple, because it depends on what mix you are talking about; race, ethnicity/tribe and etc and also do you mean immediate family or distant family or ancestors. First of all it is obvious majority or almost all nigerian families are Black Nigerian, only a few families in Nigeria are Interracial marriages for example arab & Nigerian or White European & Nigerian so I disagree in the race part. When it comes to Ethnicity/Tribal for the most part people marry within their tribe then outside their tribe, thats why majority of families in Nigeria are of one tribe however mixed tribal marriages have increased but not big enough to make a difference plus have you forgotten that some Nigerians that do happen to be mixed traditionally claim their fathers tribe for identitiy but that old school rule is slowly changing. Distant family it depends and ancestors is debatable to a extent but ancestors are not direct families in the end of the day. So to me their are many Nigerian families with no mixed people in it.
^^^^^^^^^
The post above by @anonymous is absolutely
correct.

@ tpia, I remember when I flew into Nigeria on a visit
last year, I went through the Change of Name
sections of some newspapers out of intense
curiosity and I noticed that MOST Nigerian
marry from within their ethnic groups.

I zeroed in on Yoruba-Nigerians as one of
my case studies and realised that on average,
ONLY 1 in 10 Yoruba actually marry outside
their ethnic groups on average.

Most of the inter-ethnic marriges involved more
of Yoruba men getting married to women
from other ethnicities. From my observation
of the Change of Name pages, More of the Yoruba got married to Edo and Delta state
names. Also most of the Yoruba also
married from mainly Anioma area of Delta, and
to some extent, Akwa Ibom/Cross River or Rivers
state women.

How in the name of Allah Almighty is a 'Hausa-Fulani' and Hausa any different? I don't think the relationship between the people who call themselves Hausa-Fulani and Hausa is a healthy one at that. The so called Hausa-Fulani doesn't know a thing about Fulani culture and can't identify with a Fulani person on any level. Whilst a Hausa-Fulani can identify easily with a Hausa.
^^^^^^^^^^
@Fulaman198

Your post is highly illuminating, just like your
other posts on different threads.

Your post above is absolutely correct and
I hope the mainstream media and users
of social media will take note about the
proper categorisation of the Fulani and Hausa
peoples.

By the way if and when YOU read this post,
I have a quick question: Do the modern Fulanis
from Adamawa, Taraba, etc, like you still
undergo series of FLOGGING session before
you can get married to a Fulani maiden?

PS: I was watching a live online streaming
of an interview on AIT, and Femi Fani-Kayode
said he is 1/8th Fulani. It was in April of 2015
and I'm not surprised about the fact that Fulani
ancestry flows in a significant number of
Yoruba and other Nigerians as well.

I really do not think that is necessary, yoruba and benin are cultural related via oduduwa(depend on which story you believe) and no amount of DNA testing will change that and you have to remember that there were yoruba in ile-ife before oduduwa.
^^^^^^
Well the Bini-Edo palace sources say Oduduwa
was actually Ekaladehan an Edo man who
finally found his way to Ife, while the Ife Royal
palace say NO, he is of Yoruba ancestry.

Anyhow the Bini Oba and Royal palace - and
the Ife do agree that they share a common
ancestry. The only difference is the Bini say
Oduduwa was not a Yoruba but an Edo. Of course I have my take on this..."why is it that
the heads of previous Obas of Benin were buried
in Ife over the centuries?" That's why I've always
insisted on DNA testing for solving a lot of
historical riddles.

"Basically, the tooth is connected to the bloodstream. And this disease circulates in the bloodstream," he said. "When an individual dies, the tooth enamel forms a kind of a safe, and encloses this evidence in the pulp. We are able to open the safe and extract the DNA that is inside."

@Lushore1

I think DNA tests should even be carried out
on the remains of Oduduwa if they can find it
with the aid of a device called ground-penetrating radar. The DNA of the Ife Dynasty
and the Oba of Benin can also be taken to
really settle the rather vexacious claim that
Oduduwa was an Ogiso-era prince who was
exiled from his original homeland before
wandering into Ife. Patrilineal and Matrilineal
DNA tests can be done

The co-founders of www.AfricanAncestry.com
coincidentally had direct maternal DNA showing
that both of them had Yoruba maternal
ancestry despite being Americans.

The Oduduwa original origin can be resolved
via this DNA testing.

I just have to say my piece here.
There are many Ibo who are dark or chocolate-skinned. There are different shades of Negro
complexion and it amounts to mental laziness
for anybody to assume that light skin is associted with the Ibo. There are many Yoruba,
male and female that are naturally light or dark
brown even within the same nuclear family.

I worked and lived in Port Harcourt and a lot of
non-Ibos such as Ibibio, Annang, Okrika, Esan were light-skinned as a result of genetics and
lower melanin content in the body.

General Alani Akinrinade, Saka (the man who

are light just like you have other skin-shades

Last but not least, YOU the OP are pretty and

it highly insulting that people would seek to

Ebiras, the Nupes, the Bades, the Igalas, etc.
Hausas take the 1st position and Fulanis

Lastly, most Yoruba marry either Edo/Delta
groups(including Anioma) more than from the

Yoruba muslims marry from among themselves,
a lot of Edo muslims from Auchi are married to
Yorubas, Nupe, Igala, Ebira, Gwari, Hausa, and
Fulani are married to Yorubas.

From my past research, the Yoruba are the
largest ethnicity in Nigeria that have
inter-married more than any other ethnic
group because they are able to penetrate
predominantly muslim and non-muslim
areas to socialise, trade, live, and inter-marry.

I must add that one of the top Islamic clerics
in Kano is of Yoruba ancestry. How was he able

Thanks for the correction and for paying

I subconciously merged the Hausa and Fulani
together while typing. Yes indeed the population
of the muslim ummah from the highest to the least is Hausa, Fulani, Yoruba, Kanuri, Ebira,
Nupe, Bade, Igala... and more.

As you earlier indicated the North i.e., the
Kanuri were already practicing Islam as of the
9th Century of our current era. That is why when
Uthman Danfodio jihad fighters laid seige to
Kanem Borno the Kanuri Monarch wrote a
letter to Danfodio asking why he chose to
attack them since they were already muslims
and had practiced Islam for centuries.

Hausa-fulanis & Yorubas have the largest & 2nd largest muslim populations in Nigeria, but one wonders why intermarriage btween both groups is not so common.

Igbos & Yorubas who have the largest & 2nd largest christian populations in Nigeria intermarry more often than Hausas do with yorubas and i wonder why.

The only area that may be of exception is the ILORIN AREA of Kwara state.....due to the history of Hausa-Fulanis conquering Ilorin and settling with the yorubas there in large numbers and have been intermarrying down the centuries because of the Fulani Islamic monarchy (emirate rulership) that unites them together.

Aside Ilorin, it is quite very difficult for u to find yoruba muslims from the south-west intermarrying with Hausa-fulanis... Why??
^^^^^^
@OP, I just saw this thread and need to quickly reply.

First Islam arrived in Yorubaland before Uthman
Dan Fodio was born and there was a significant
Yoruba muslim population that got converted
to Islam by preachers from the Mali Empire
who came to the Oyo Empire.

I noticed this insulting urban legend even to me
who isn't a muslim that Hausa or Fulani do
not regard Yoruba muslims as real(sic) muslims.
A lot of people speak from deep ignorance, and
I even observed that some people from a particular part of Nigeria on Forums use it
to in a silly manner insult the Yoruba.

It is Not true that Yoruba muslims don't marry
fellow muslims from the North such as Fulani
or Hausa. They also marry muslims who are
Nupe, Ebira, Senegalese, some Arabs, the Edo
muslims from Auchi/Etsako, Gwari, etc.

The "Mutallab Family" led by Alhaji Abdul Mutallab from Katsina State came to Ibadan
for the Nikai wedding between his son and
the late Alhaji Alao Arisekola's daugher in
2009! A few months before Mutallab, the
Under-Bomber tried to blow up a plane.

One of the daughters of Sultan Machido of Sokoto, is married into the Edu family of Lagos
State. There are many more because the
Yoruba have the 2nd largest muslim population
in Nigeria after the Hausa. Even among the
indigenes of Lagos State, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, they constitute the largest population.

Islam arrived in Yorubaland which extends from
Nigeria to Benin, and Atakpame province in Togo
over 350 years ago from the Mali Empire. Nobody should insult Yoruba muslims by saying
that Northerners look down on Yoruba muslims.
It's PURE lie from religious and ethnic bigots.

Yoruba was also written in Arabic just like Ashante and Hausa languages long before the
birth of Uthman Danfodio in Niger Republic.

Musician, singer. Born Helen Folasade Adu on January 16, 1959 in Ibadan, Nigeria to a an Ekiti (Nigerian) father and an English mother. Raised in London by her English mother, Sade developed several interests as a teen, including singing, fashion design and modeling. She sang with a few local bands before signing with Epic Records and recording her first album, Diamond Life, in 1984. A huge hit in her native England, the album also had mass appeal across the pond thanks to such singles as "Smooth Operator." In 1986, she won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist.

Sade's subsequent multi-platinum albums, Promise, Stronger Than Pride and Love Deluxe, established her as a top-selling soul and pop artist. She took a new route with her 2000 album, Lovers Rock, which was released eight years after Love Deluxe and incorporated a more mainstream sound. The record, and particularly the chart-topping single, "By Your Side," helped her win over new audiences. Two years later, the album and ensuing tour inspired her first live recording, Lovers Live. Sade returned to the studio and released her sixth album In February 2010, Soldier of Love.

Sade married Spanish filmmaker Carlos Scola in 1989; the couple divorced three years later. In 1996, she and Jamaican record producer Bobby Morgan had a daughter, Ila Morgan.

This happened in 2011
I moved to the U.S from Nigeria in 2011 when i was 20
I knew no one when i moved,so I had to lay low.
I got a hotel in Ohio & stayed for 3 weeks before i got an apartment in Littlerock in the state of Arkansas because Arkansas is the only state in america with the cheapest house rent.
When I got to Arkansas, I immediately noticed the the rate of girls is far higher than that of the guys.
I met a girl in 6 days of my arrival when i went to the store to buy some Newport cigarettes, she heard me talking & asked if i was Jamaican.
She took down my number.
She started taking me around the town & to Chinese restaurants.
On the 9th day she invited me over to her place & gave the cab directions to her place
When i got there i met her female room mate, we played Xbox game & she order 3 boxes of pizza.
When i checked the time it was 11 pm & i knew i won't be going home that night.
She came up on me & undressed, i had no condom on me so i told her we ain't having sex that night.
She & her room mate created a scene, saying they gonna call the cops on me, I knew how them white girls been sending black guys to jail for what they didn't do
The two of the had canal knowledge of me because i was a newbie & the were recording the act on their iPad.
I felt disgusted.
Forced sex was the norm till i finally can't take it anymore, i then finally moved to far away Florida.
We still talk on phone & on Facebook but the experience really changed my life

Funnilly enough, most men who have gone

The Yorubas are one of the largest African ethnic groups south of the Sahara Desert. They are, in fact, not a single group, but rather a collection of diverse people bound together by a common language, history, and culture. The Yoruba homeland is located in West Africa. It stretches from a savanna (grassland) region in the north to a region of tropical rain forests in the south. Most Yoruba live in Nigeria. However there are also some scattered groups in Benin and Togo. During the four centuries of the slave trade, Yoruba territory was known as the Slave Coast. Uncounted numbers of Yoruba were carried to the Americas. Their descendants preserved Yoruba traditions. In several parts of the Caribbean and South America, Yoruba religion has been combined with Christianity. There are also many Yoruba descents/ diaspora who are living in North America and Europe.

Music is part of the Yoruba's culture and tradition. Many musicians of Yoruba heritage had made their mark on the world stage. Although some of them did not sing in Yoruba but they all acknowledged their heritage. The following 15 artistes were selected based on the following inclusion criteria:
a. Yoruba parentage (either father or mother)
b. Nominees or recipients of major global or African musical awards
c. Performing on the global stage
d. Being on US or European top charts
e. Popular beyond Africa

1. Fela Anikulapo Kuti
2. Tunde Baiyewu (Formerly of Lighthouse family)
3. Angelique Kidjo
4. Sade
5. Ayo
6. Asa
7. Seal
8. Lagbaja
9. King Sunny Ade
10. Ebenezer Obey
11. Femi Kuti
12. IK Dairo
13. Beautiful Nubia
14. D'Banj
15. Orlando Julius

However there are many other musicians who are of Yoruba heritage but these 15 are the ones acknowledged as the most popular ones outside Nigeria and Africa. Some are already subject of Masters and PhD dissertations in universities around the world.

FELA ANIKULAPO-KUTI
Drummer, Pianist, Civil Rights Activist, Songwriter (1938–1997)

Early Years

Musician and political activist Fela Kuti was born Olufela Olusegun Oludotun Ransome-Kuti on October 15, 1938, in Abeokuta, Nigeria. Kuti was the son of a Protestant minister, Reverend Ransome-Kuti. His mother, Funmilayo, was a political activist.

Activism Through Music

In 1963, Kuti formed a band called Koola Lobitos. He would later change the band's name to Afrika 70, and again to Egypt 80. Beginning in the 1960s, Kuti pioneered and popularized his own unique style of music called "Afrobeat." Afrobeat is a combination of funk, jazz, salsa, Calypso and traditional Nigerian Yoruba music. In addition to their distinctive mixed-genre style, Kuti's songs were considered unique in comparison to more commercially popular songs due to their length—ranging anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour long. Kuti sang in a combination of Pidgin English and Yoruba.

In the 1970s and '80s, Kuti's rebellious song lyrics established him as political dissident. As a result, Afrobeat has come to be associated with making political, social and cultural statements about greed and corruption. One of Kuti's songs, "Zombie," questions Nigerian soldiers' blind obedience to carrying out orders. Another, "V.I.P. (Vagabonds in Power)," seeks to empower the disenfranchised masses to rise up against the government.

So that morning i did not receive any alert because my phone was down because we get power supply problems on sundays.. As usual. we all eat together from one Plate ( the whole room) and the thief also joined us..

that evening..the guy asked me to follow him to drink pepper soup and palm wine outside campus with some other of his friends.. at first i was surprised because.. i never followed him anywhere before and also he asked only Me to follow them. i decided to follow him anyways cos its hard to reject free things. So i decided to use that opportunity to also withdraw some money for the week cos i was left with just 2h...

After taking my bath and dressing.. i checked my bag and couldn't find my ATM cards.. Ah!.. i searched and searched and searched.. for almost 30MIN and couldnt find my cards.. by then the Guy was calling me to tell me that they were still waiting downstairs that i should come.. So i told him to Go.. few min latr he called again then i told him "Guy someone has taken my cards i cant join you guys please Go without me"

Then i decided to put on my phone so i could call my bank to block the cards... Lo and Behold!!! i got 12 ALERTS N20,000 was withdrawn 6 times from my first bank account and also Atm charges of N65 was taken 6 times making it 12 alerts.. so then i called firstbank and Blocked my card.. also i called GTB (took them 40min to answer) to block my Gtb master card too..

https://i.imgur.com/PSjUejC.png

Immediately i On my laptop and logged in my online banking and found out that the fraudulent withdrawal was made few meters away from my hostel.. and also that nothing was taken from my GTB (because i used a different PIN)

Being an experienced person and also an ICT expert i was not worried at all..i knew the person was going to be caught.. but different thought passed through my mind.. My room mates including the culprit began to make suggestions.. saying it was my friends, a mistake from the bank, etc.. all i told them was The Person wey steal my money day here right now and i will fish the person out

i kept my cool and started watching movies on my laptop and also told my loved ones via chat..

6:00AM the next morning (MONDAY) i woke up, greet my room mates, dressed as if i was going to class.. few minutes later i came with the school security and then they took all my room mates including me to their office. we all got there then we were given some form to fill and also make statement.. after all that.. the security men began to threaten everybody.. saying.. There was a surveillance camera at that ATM spot.. that whoever took the money should own up.. or face the wrath of the full school security when the tape is finally recovered and played from the bank (it was access bank ATM the guy used)

still nobody said anything.. after enough waiting, threatening and all.. we all came to a conclusion that we should visit access bank for the tape.. just before then one of my room mate came to me and made a suggession saying "Osas i get one idea, make u go tell them say u wan bring out your Account number so that they go give one day make the person go pay in the money else they go con go access bank for the tape.. you know say the person fit day fear now and he nogo wan talk here" angry angry angry

Shoooooo grin .. at first i refused.. then later after thinking about it and also suspecting the guy that made that suggestion (sharp guy) huh huh huh i went and told the security men.. they told the lady in charge and we all agreed. i wrote out my bank details and made sure they all collect it.. (altho some ddnt) . then they told us all to come back there 9AM the next day..

i went to the bukka and eat with my last 2h. then went back to the room and slept.. when i woke up and checked my phone.. guess what i found cool cool N65,000 angry was credited to my account with a foreign name grin grin "Joseph Collins" ... OK O white man .. i went alone to the security office and alerted them
https://i.imgur.com/lbUlRau.png

Later I and some of my smart room mates began to deduce and do some thinking.. all fingers were pointing to that guy... who made that suggestion.. because

1. He made that suggestion,
2. He made a comment when we were leaving the security office that "What if na 80k the person go pay.. Osas go just rest" i heard it but pretended i ddnt hear it..
3. He was acting rather strange and stupidly nice to me.. saying things that ddnt make sense and all that (guilty conscience.. smh)
4. as at the time i received the alert.. everybody's location was know except

So it was now remaining 55k.. so before he came.. me and all of my room mates after reaching the conclusion that it was him who stole the money decided to goto the security office behind his back and tell them what we arrived at.. 3 of us left... as we were going we met one of our other room mate (a final year student).. He suggested we use Boiz to retrieve the remaining part.. we said no!!! that they might just kill him and then it turns into a cultism case.. so he joined us.. after alerting the security officials.. they told us not to confront him.. that we should just play along.. and come as earlier planed 9AM the next day

OH! what a Long night of pretence! one of us said.. but we just had to play along...

That night (yesteday night) the guy came back to room and started his wierd and strange behaviour again.. He was scared.. he wanted to know if i would withdraw the case.. he wanted to know if i would use spiritual means... But he never owned up... even when we all used style to ask him... He even made stupid statements like " The person wey theif this Osas money Go collect!.. he go chop beating" and other similar stupid comments.. He ddnt know we already knew it was him.. we all Just pretended..

He called me to the corner and said.. "that person for even send u SMS sef if he day fear" ..... SHoooOOO shocked shocked shocked .. I played along

Then this morning. "The deal day" as some of my room mates called it.. we all woke up... and also used style to say "if u know u took OSas money.. better come out now se we settle it as a family" the idiot still ddnt talk.. he even Joined us and eat.. Ok.. sharp Guy..

so we left together for the security office.. we all left except the guy... we walked downstairs.. pasts some blocks and was about leaving the hostel entrance when i got an anonymous call.. the person said "Osas Check your phone.. i don send you text" I recognised the the voice instantly then checked my phone to see this text
https://i.imgur.com/CxEZTuA.png

Then immediatly 2 of my room mates went back to the room and brought the guy down to come and confess.. by then people gathered and began asking questions.. this Guy denied FLAT saying he knows nothing about no text and about no money... we then proceeded to the security office.. by then people began advicing him to own up to the crime else it might be too late for him.. i even met him personally and told him i was ready to forgive him.. His eyes began to turn red,,, still he denied.. then few minutes later he confessed to the eldest person in my room (there at the security office) that he took my ATM cards and made the withdrawals.. then he was presented to the security officers for interrogation,,, as that was being done... i received another alert. that N20,000 has be paid by the same Joseph Collins into my acc (confirming the fact that he had an accomplice)
https://i.imgur.com/bxcb0Ox.png

The Head of the security officials there (a woman) was really an angel... she acted like a mother and asked us not to be violent about it that the guy was tempte and he fell for it or he is under a curse ir was pushed by a bad spirit.. so we then gave him a deadline to pay the remaining balance which is 35k...

So my fellow nairalanders.. can you guys see how heartless some persons can be? i've been thinking about it since morning and i felt really disappointed.. This was the Guy i allow to wear my shoes, use my phones whenever he likes.. I attended his Matric and snapped with him (2days to this incidence) and took him like a brother..

i couldn't stop wondering "IF I HAD GONE WITH HIM TO DRINK PEPPER SOUP THAT DAY.. WHAT WOULD HE HAVE DONE TO MEhuh,, POISON me I guess..

Well i thank God for my life and all he did for the culprit to be exposed under 2 days..

MAke una help me thank God

@pazienza

It was the foremost father of the Ijaw Nation,
Chief Harold Dappa-Biriye from Bonny Island,
Ken Saro-Wiwa, and other non-Ibos in the
Old Eastern Region that told Gowan to create
States. Chief Awolowo had nothing to do
with the decision as you wrongly stated above.

In the Guardian of May 27, 1999, Page 7 to Page 8, Chief Harold Dappa-Biriye accused the Ibo
of dominating the minorities and of trying to
RIVAL the Yoruba who were ahead of them.

He also said the coup plotters of 1966 were sent
by their masters. He refered to the coup
plotters as School Boys who were sent to do
the bidding of the Ibo leadership of the 60s.

Dappa Biriye also said Ironsi's Decree 33 sent
fears of domination among the minorities of the
East and the North of Nigeria in that interview.

Chief Dappa Biriye took the CREDIT for the
creation of the states that Gen. Gowan created
on May 27, 1967!

According to Igbodefender.com,the Aniomas are the Igbos whom the Yorubas say were pre-existing in Ile Ife when they first came there. The Aniomas are Igbos.
There is NO such history among the Yoruba!
Such Websites like the one you quoted above
are very notorious for peddling false propaganda
about other people's histories.

One CRAZY and mentally unstable person
once wrote that the Ibos where the original
settlers in Abeokuta because Okwute means
rock in Ibo. No such history exists. This lunanic
also said the Egbas are Ibos. To my surprise
I observed that some gullible people abroad
and in Nigeria - even on Nairaland had copied
this piece of false information on their Websites
and blogs. Even the Igbo in Ijebu Igbo, Igbo Ora,
Igbomina, Igbobi, etc, has nothing to do
with the Ibos.

As far as I know, and I have spent decades reading about the history and cultures of several
Nigerian and Diasporian peoples because I hate
not knowing about other people's cultures, Aniomas come from multiple ancestries.

Infact, concrete research work on migratory
patterns in Anioma shows that out of the
slightly over 100 communities in Delta North,
only about 20% trace their origins to the
Ibo, East of River Niger. The rest have Igala, Edo,
Yoruba, Esan, some Nupe, Ijaw, etc. This is based
on a research from a University in Delta State.

Delta North communities know who they are
and were their original ancestors came from.
I am particularly thrilled by the great Igala people
and the presence of their descendants in
what is known as the Igala-associated
communities of Ebu, Okpanam, Asaba, and
even Illah, the hometown of Stephen Keshi,
Frank Olize, and Desmond Elliot's mum..

Some communities in Anioma still speak
their dialects of Edoid, Yoruboid, and Igalloid
forms of communication such as Ebu where Igalla is spoken, Igbodu where the Olukunmis
speak a dialect of Yoruba - the Olukunmis
share boundaries with the Esans of Edo
state and where the FIRST to settle in their land
after leaving Esanland, because they were
originally in Benin but left during the Ogiso era
according to their king Oloza Ayo Isinyemeze.

It was through acculturation or borrowing of
the cultures of their neighbors that made
some of these non-Ibo people to adopt
bilingualism for the purpose of trading..

If you go to Anambra North you will find
indigenous Igalas there. Igalas are originally
boat people so there were crossings from
the East of the Niger to the West of the Niger
River and they made landings in Asaba as well.

Ibos are not the only influences in Delta North
and the quest to make the whole of Anioma
into an Ibo State as being championed by some
people on some propaganda Websites will
NOT succeed because the GREAT people of
Anioma are a "Rainbow Nation" even though
central ibo (an artificial creation of the British
colonial era) is understood by them.

The Anioma peoples of Aniocha, Ika, Oshimili,
and Ndokwa have fascinated me for more than
20 years now with their exotic history. During
the Ekumeku War with the British, they
all came together and provided resistance
and War Commanders from the Olukunmi
community of Eko Efun(meaning white chalk)
otherwise known as Ukwunzu are noted in the
list of battle commanders from several
communities of Anioma, East and West of the
River Niger.

Oguta, Ogbaru, Onitsha, etc, are some of the
Anioma communites that were balkanised
by the British after they were defeated.

I think Anioma communities are ripe for a DNA
test to be carried out on the different clans and
quarters in every Delta North community. This
paternal and maternal DNA tests which have
been done on Lebanese people which
detected Phoenician ancestry in a lot of
Lebanese irrespective of religion, can be
financed by the cultural groups, and business
moguls such as the Agbor-born Jim Ovia,
Nduka Obaigbena, Tony Elumelu, and more,
to lay to rest the actual ancestries of the Anioma
communities instead of just relying on oral
traditions which can easily be manipulated.

Even DNA samples can be obtained from
Eze Chima and his descendants in Onitsha
and other Delta North locations to finally
know whether he was an Ibo who left Benin
or whether he was an Edo man who settled
in Onitsha Ado.

The niger delta region is a home to many ethnic groups regarded as minor by the nigerian government. Whereas Hausa,Yoruba and Igbo are the major ethnic groups in nigeria..

The Ikwerre nation is the largest ethnic nationality
in present day Rivers State in the Niger delta. With over 2.6million people, It is made up of not less
than four major Local Government Areas, and
occupies the largest land mass in the state.

Like most ethnic groups in Nigeria, the history of
Ikwerre could be contested. However, several
researchers have linked their origin to benin, edo
state in Nigeria, Ikwerre is listed as an ethnic
group by the nigerian govenment, Ikwerre is often
highlighted as the richest and most industrious nationality in Rivers State, an observation that could
have been due to the quality indigenes it has
produced in recent time.

Head of Ikwerre Cultural Organisation, Worldwide,
Chief Agbaru Ogbakor, who gave credence to this in
a narration of the history of the place and its people
said: “Ikwerre is one of the ethnic nationalities
that make up the many Nation-States that were
amalgamated by Lord Luggard in 1914 to form what we have today as Nigeria. They have their
identifiable and distinct culture, tradition and
language.

“Ikwerre spans four Local Government Areas in
Rivers State. These LGAs are those of Port Harcourt,
Obio-Akpor, Ikwerre and Emohua. It has a
population of about 2.6 million people.”

PabloAfricanus:
The state creation was standard divide and conquer strategy which Gowon as a military officer and administrator should
be quite familiar with.
Actually the decision to create states was a military one necessitated by the need to hole in Ojukwu and the
secessionists. Having said that, the goal was actually neutralizing Ojukwu's jurisdiction over the oil installations and hence
the oil revenues which he had mandated Shell to pay to Biafra and not Lagos.
Dappa Biriye cannot wholly take credit for that. While he might have had an input, I doubt if he was the originator.
The players involved were too international for him to influence to that level.
By that I mean that it was the British who gave Gowon the needed intelligence to call Ojukwu's bluff.
You can't fund a war on threats and agitations...you need cold hard cash. Cut that off and its over.
The British preferred to deal with Gowon than Ojukwu...and that was the undoing of Biafra.
It was the British who had the highest stakes in the Nigerian project and so...
@PabloAfricanus

Your conclusion is NOT necessarily 100%
accurate.

If you are conversant with the geo-politics of
Nigeria from 1914 and the events leading right
up to 1970, YOU would recall that there was a
strong movement in the 50s for the creation
of the Calabar, Ogoja and Rivers States [COR]
by the non-Ibos of the Old Eastern Region.

The movement of Southern Cameroon after the
plebiscite back to Cameroon their union with
Nigeria was as a result of this feeling of marginalisation in the Eastern Regional politics
among other reasons.

Third, if you recall or read up again, The Willinks
Minority Report was instituted to investigate the
strong agitation by the "minorities" in Nigeria. The Ijaws and the Cross Riverians had cried out
over the domination of their lands and appointments by the Ibos. This had led to the
call for the COR States in the 1950s by the
founder of the Niger Delta Congress, Dr. Harold
Dappa-Biriye, an ex-King's College student, and
other Old Eastern Region minorities.

Last but NOT least, I stand by my original post
on this thread that based on The Guardian article
of Thursday 27th May, 1999, pages 7 to 8, Joseph Ollor-Obari interviewed Chief Harold
Dappa-Biriye in Port Harcourt. In that explosive
article which I filed in my historical archives/library since 1999, Dappa-Biriye said Gen. Gowon was a 31-year-old man who had just
arrived from England and did NOT have a
complete idea of what to do. So, from September
3, 1966, he and other non-Ibos in the Old Eastern
Region impresses it on Gen. Gowon on the NEED
to create new states NOT regions. He said it
was the Memorandum or Petition written by all
Rivers leaders of thought that finally led to
General Gowon's creation if 12 new States.

States creation was NOT a military idea or
invention and certainly NOT by Chief Obafemi
Awolowo, SAN, as wrongly stated by @pazienza
in his post above. The Memorandum or Petition
by the Rivers State leaders of thought to
create states and not regions in 1966/7 is contained in the Appendix Section of Dr. Ken
Saro-Wiwa's book entitled, "On the Darkening Plain."

The Guardian article title of May 27, 1999, page
7 to 8 is "Democracy and Autocracy, My Testimony: Dappa-Biriye." I had to check my
digital organiser to get the full title of the article
and the EXACT date of publication as I do NOT
want to misinform the younger generation on
REAL historical events. I would have scanned
the article from Guardian and uploaded it on
this thread, but it is NOT located where I now live. So, for those of us who hate Historical Revisionism and the distortion of truth, YOU
can get to RUTAM HOUSE in Lagos State, along
Apapa-Oshodi Expressway to see if you can get
