Christianity EtcRev Ken, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s Younger Brother, Also Accused Of Adultery by Marchman(op): 4:51pm On Aug 31, 2014
The crisis rocking the Christ Embassy Church is about to get messier as The Nigerian Times can reveal that Rev. Ken Oyakhilome, younger brother of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, founder of the Church has also been accused of fornication and adultery.

Last week, reports emerged in the media that Rev. Anita, wife of the charismatic and ‘pastorpreneuer,’ popularly known as Pastor Chris, had filed for divorce in the UK, citing ‘adultery’ and ‘unreasonable behaviour.’ As the news made the round, it was met with disbelief by members of the Christ Embassy Church who revere Pastor Chris and were in the dark on the marital crises facing the couple.

Now the scandal may even get worse. Pastor Chris’ younger brother, known in the Church circle as Rev. Ken, was alleged to have impregnated a South African lady, name withheld, a member of the Church in Randburg, Guateng, which is the headquarters of Christ Embassy, South Africa. Rev. Ken, used to be the regional pastor of Christ Embassy in charge of South Africa until a few years when he was transferred to the branch of the church in Texas, USA.
The Nigerian Times’s sources say the romance between Rev. Ken and the member was an open secret among members of the Church in South Africa and the alleged pregnancy of the lady was said to have ruffled feathers among the top echelons of church but was hushed in order to prevent a scandal. The lady, according to sources, aborted the child with the knowledge of leaders of the church.

Like his elder brother, Rev. Ken has lived apart from his wife Pastor Ose for over ten years now. Pastor Ose used to manage the Okota, Lagos branch of the Church while her husband, Ken was the regional pastor in South Africa. The couple still lives apart today as Pastor Ose now manages the Church in South Africa while her husband, Ken is in Texas, running the church there.

Although the alleged romance between Rev Ken and the said Sister, which resulted in pregnancy, was kept a secret, the crisis in the Church involving Pastor Chris and his wife Anita, had led to many of such secrets tumbling out. Some members of the Church unhappy with happenings there had set up Facebook page, Where is Rev Anita, through which they vent their frustrations about the secrecy with which the church is run and some of the allegedly ungodly things happening there.

Find below some comments about the Rev Ken saga:
From Sister Lebogang Radibela: “It’s true, here in Johannesburg a pastor impregnated a young lady and forced her to do abortion, later on the lady was promoted to being a pastor, till today she is still a pastor, working together with the wife to the pastor who impregnated her. Members act like this is normal; I mean where we draw a line.”

From Jacob Nnoli: @Sister Lebogang Radibela, “it’s not just a pastor. it’s our darling older brother Rev Ken himself that activated the pregnancy button but it’s shocking to know that our regional pastor, Pastor Ose Oyakhilome, a mother herself supported the abortion and by (following the principle of the ) 48 laws of power, she’s keeping her close. That sounds like what an ‘area mother’ would do and to top it up, the grandfather himself Rev Chris ordained the sister a pastor and probably help seared the damaged conscience with some rands/dollars. How many more in Nigeria region? Time will fail us to speak of Asaba, Kaduna, Port Harcourt, Benin and many too numerous to mention. I had to listen to that Youtube message again this morning and I can now understand when Pastor Chris said Pastor Anita should have moved with those who will help her as the wife of global pastor. Is this what she should learn, to help Pastor Yemisi and other indicted ladies? Actually Pastor, you forgot to announce the firing of Pastor Pat, the CSO as a result of leaked White House (Pastor Chris’ residence in Lagos) information and the hiring of a brother-in-law Deacon Kingsley Osazuwa. Our darling Rev Ken, it looks like Durex, Trojan, and Gold circle condoms etc have all finished in the market because of ….May God have mercy but we need to obtain the mercy.”

Meanwhile, the London branch of the Christ Embassy Church is undergoing a major crisis which had led the Charity Commission, the body licensed to regulate charities in the UK, to take over its financial administration through the appointment of an Interim Manager. The body accused the Church Trustees of “serious concerns about the financial management of the Church, including in particular large connected payments. Since then a books and records inspection has been carried out and the regulator has obtained information from and met the trustees, however, the regulator’s concerns about the financial management of the charity have not been resolved.”

The Commission therefore used its powers under the UK Charities Act to appoint Mr. Rod Weston of Mazars as Interim Manager of the charity to the exclusion of the charity’s trustees as a temporary and protective measure. The implication is that Mr Weston is now in charge of the financial management of the Christ Embassy, UK and will deal with all matters relating to finances, to the exclusion of the pastors and staff of the Church.

A similar thing had occurred to another Nigerian-owned church, the Kingsway International Christian Centre, KICC pastored by Mathew Ashimolowo, which necessitated his relocation to Nigeria from the UK. Also the UK government barred Nigerian Pastor, David Oyedepo from entering the country, allegedly because of some unwholesome practices of its church.

Christianity EtcShould Christians In War-torn Countries Pay Tithe? by Marchman(op): 2:35pm On Oct 11, 2013
I have been wondering lately how Nigerian religious leaders, especially of the Pentecostal guise, have promoted tithes above grace. For them, it even appears more important than salvation. It is about money, money, money and more money. It has made me to wonder whether christians who are caught up in war, say Syria, should pay tithes, considering that there is little to eat and great uncertainty. How would pastors justify tithe in such a situation?

Bash Ali should go and get a life. He has become a nuisance. He's lost all respect, and a frustrated soul.

If you ask me, the so called fight is fiction. he is done this with several people and now no one wants to touch him.

If the minister was unavailable, he should have quietly left or book an appointment for another time. S

Christianity EtcThe Real Descendants Of Abraham Did Not Pay Tithes by Marchman(op): 3:29pm On Sep 15, 2012
This was what I discovered after studying the Bible for MYSELF. I attend Christ Embassy but I decided long time ago to read the Bible for myself and not to take the word of the pastor for it. So after an argument/debate with a brother about tithing, I studied more on the subject and the revelation I got was truly shocking.

My Church brother told me that tithing preceded the law and that Father Abraham started it, when he gave tithe to Melchizedek. Through study, I discovered that he was ignorant or just a liar. The features of the tithe (strictly speaking it is not even a tithe, but 10 percent of the spoils of war) paid by Abraham are different from what is done today.

1. It was not by force. Abraham willingly gave to Melchizedek
2. It was not from his regular income but from the spoils of wars
3. The blessings of God on Abraham had nothing to do with the so-called tithe he paid. He was blessed because of his Faith
4. It was a one off thing, not regular, monthly or weekly
5. This is the most shocking of all: Abraham’s Children did not pay “tithe” or saw the need to pay it. Isaac never paid a dime of tithe. Jacob promised to give God 10 per cent if God should bless him. Tithing as preached by the Pentecostals of today you can’t vow to pay. You must pay!
The tithing as preached by today’s pastors come with blessings and curses. That is tithing according the law, which is systematic and addressed to the Jews. This became effective during the law, when the land was shared and the Levites didn’t get any. The famous Malachi treatise on tithe was addressed to Jewish priests and to the Jews. I am a Christian, not a Jew.

So if anyone should insist that you pay tithe, ask him if it according to the law or the 10 percent paid by Father Abraham. To be smart, they will tell you it precedes the Law, then ask them why the real children of Abraham did not tithe. Or if it is possible to give a one off tithe like Abraham did?

You may also explain that being seeds of Abraham is not by tithe but our connection to him is by faith> he is the Father of Faith. If they insist that you pay, ask the greedy or ignorant preacher to show one, just one, example in the Bible of Christians paying tithe. Christians, I don’t mean Jews.

Why should I pay if Paul, Peter and the apostles did not?

SportsOLYMPIC FALLOUT: Chairman Sports Committee, GAIYA, Harassed Over Sex Scandal by Marchman(op): 1:30pm On Aug 27, 2012
Although the London Olympics has come and gone, yet the memory of the country’s poor outing without a medal still lingers on in people’s mind. The other astonishing story coming from London, however indicates that while Nigerian athletes were busy competing for medals at the Olympics, the Chairman House Committee On Sports, Hon. Godfrey Ali Gaiya was allegedly busy enjoying himself at the prestigious Marriot Hotel, where he lodged. Sources say they are sure that the honourable did not attend any of the sports events, but rather, got himself soaked in his hotel room, enjoying a five star lifestyle. Hon. Gaiya, who represents Jaba/Zangon Kataf Federal constituency of Kaduna state in the Federal House of Reps, was said to have attracted a big attention to himself when he was about to check out of the hotel. This is because the hotel management had requested that the honourable should settle his total bills before he could be allowed to go. At this stage, a very competent source told this magazine that the honourable threw caution to the wind, insisting that the hotel was trying to play a fast one on him. While the hotel was restrained not to embarrass him with the disclosure of his bill, the action of Hon. Gaiya had already attracted attention of busy bodies and concerned Nigerians.

At a stage, when the hotel could not withstand the honourable’s drama, it was disclosed that while the honourable was in his room, he was busy watching pornography channels that were considered premium channels with premium charges. At this stage, many were shocked and embarrassed that while Nigerian athletes were busy trying to do the country proud, the honourable was busy watching adult films in his hotel room.

Grudgingly, the honourable admitted watching the channels and was made to pay about two hundred and forty pounds sterling, (£240).

When the honourable was contacted, he neither picked his phone nor responded to the short message (text) sent to his phone.

SportsNFF Denies Keshi Sack Order by Marchman(op): 10:44am On Aug 21, 2012
NIGERIA Football Federation (NFF) General Secretary, Musa Amadu has denied a story in a local website quoting the sports minister, Bolaji Abdullahi as issuing the NFF an ultimatum of winning the 2013 Africa Nations Cup holding in South Africa.
The much publicised report generated heated debate in football circles and the NFF scribe has come out to deny the story which means that the minister was either quoted out of context or he did not say anything like that.
Amadu, who did not speak much on the matter, however, told SportingLife that, “The minister didn’t say what was published on the football website (that the Super Eagles must win the 2013 Africa Nations Cup).”
“So, I don’t know where the journalist got the information from anyway”, Amadu disclosed in Abuja yesterday.
Eagles’ Chief Coach, Stephen Keshi had informed SportingLife on Sunday that he did not believe the minister made the statement and also warned that such comments could put pressure on the team and serve as distraction in their campaign of booking the 2013 ANC ticket.
“My only fears are that if such pronouncements are not handled maturely and reasonably they may bring unnecessary pressure and confusion to the team. We have almost achieved what we have set out for ourselves and this declaration from the minister may set us back and backfire.
“So, we need encouragement for us to concentrate on this campaign of being at the Nations Cup”, Keshi said.

London 2012: The Task Ahead Is Grimly Clear
Full Text of a Speech by the Honourable Minister of Sports and Chairman, National Sports Commission, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi on Thursday August 9, 2012 at the Nigeria House, Stratford, London

About two weeks ago, we arrived London for the 2012 Olympics with a contingent of 51 sportsmen and women competing in 8 sports namely, athletics, weightlifting, taekwondo, boxing, wrestling, table tennis, canoeing and basketball. We were competing in the last two for the first time ever.

Even though we did not expect to win the competition, we had arrived hoping to make a decent showing. We even had reasons to believe we could surpass some of our recent achievements at this level of competing. Why not?

We had arrived London riding on the wave of a short but intensive preparation of our athletes in different parts of the world where they did not only have the benefits of high quality facilities and technical support but also had the opportunity to match up against some of the best athletes from other parts of the world, and on some occasions, beating them.

Many commentators agreed that while not ideal, we have had one of our best preparations coming into this competition in recent years. This, coupled with a system that put athletes’ welfare at the heart of planning and an atmosphere devoid of rancor and acrimony, we believed would guarantee us a couple of medals.

However, here we are, only a few days to the end of the competition. Team Nigeria is still not on the medals table. I must say this is as disappointing for my team and myself as it is for all Nigerians everywhere. But even as painful as this disappointment is, we must have the courage to see it for what it is. This, therefore, is a scientific diagnosis of our condition; a clear testimony to how far our sports have fallen behind.

We shall therefore not attempt any excuses or indulge in any unproductive blame game. Rather than see this as a failure, we must see it as an opportunity to rebuild. When other countries have found themselves in this kind of situation in the past, they have used the galvanizing power of disappointment to get down to work. At Atlanta 1996 Olympics, Team Great Britain won only one gold medal. Returning home, the right questions were asked, and the necessary actions were taken. Four years later in Sydney, they returned with 11 gold out of 28 medals. In Beijing four years ago, they returned with 19 gold medals out of 47, placing them in the fourth position. Today, Team GB is sitting pretty in the third position of the medals table surpassing their own expectation. Today, they are able to look back and say they have moved from “zeroes to heroes.” This is our chance. We can also do it. We must see this crisis as the necessary disequilibrium required for serious actions and drastic change. We will not allow this opportunity to pass.
Having being appointed Minister and Chairman, National Sports Commission only two months to the Olympics, I have had to learn very quickly. And I have not received a better lesson than in the last two weeks of the London 2012 Olympics. I have learnt three key lessons from this Olympics:

1. Olympics medal is about hard cash. It is not a coincidence that the medals table appears to reflect the level of economic development of the countries. But having the resources is one thing, making the right strategic investment is another. Team Great Britain largely owes its dramatic success to what is described as “unprecedented financial investment” totaling up to more than 740 million GBP over 15 years. The current annual spending on sports stands at 100 million GBP. However, only 40% of this comes from the treasury, while the remaining 60% is lottery fund.

Conversely, Australia finished fourth in Sydney with 16 gold medals. In London, Australia has fallen outside the top 10 with 6 gold medals. Australians have blamed reduced funding for elite athletes and a lack of facilities at the grassroots levels.

2. Every medal is clearly projected and carefully planned for both in financial and technical terms over a sustained period of time. Only years of intensive, unrelenting training and preparation can win medals. There is no short cut. Medals are won by people who have worked hardest not by those who have prayed hard. We can only win medals by building systems that are capable of producing medalists and champions not by selecting athletes that we hope can win medals.

3. Olympics are a lifetime commitment. The champion is in the child. Ye Shiwen, the 16 year old Chinese girl that shocked the swimming world by setting a new world record in individual medley was only 12 when her country hosted the Olympics. Lizzie Armistead who won the Team GB’s first medal in this Olympics with Silver in cycling got her first bicycle at the age of 4.

The immediate challenge for us is how to translate these lessons into concrete actions in the days ahead. The process of rebuilding will start with the National Sports Festival in Lagos later this year. We shall use this event to flag-off our preparation for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and thereafter the 2016 Olympics in Brazil. Some of our top priorities in the days ahead are therefore as follows:
1. Identifying five sports that give us competitive opportunities.
2. Restructuring the Federations of these Sports to make them more democratic, accountable and efficient.
3. Developing a Sports Calendar that will ensure year-round sports activities both within and outside the schools.
4. Strategic engagement with the private sector with the aim to improve funding for sports.
5. Strengthen our coaching and training capabilities by developing strategic partnership with national and international bodies.

I thank all of you here for your support and understanding. We will keep this conversation going, in our belief that you in the media are our major strategic ally in the great task ahead. I want to say thank you to all my athletes and their coaches. They have all tried their best. Even though they have not won medals, many of them got to the quarter finals, the semifinals and finals of their various events and even setting new national, Africa and Commonwealth records in the process. But this is the Olympics, where micro-seconds have made the difference between gold medals and no medals. You are all our heroes and we can only hope to build on your achievements.

I thank the Federal Government and the people of Nigeria everywhere for their wonderful support and understanding during this difficult time. The task ahead has been made grimly clear. Therefore, lets get down to work.

We attend Christ Embassy Church and there is always pressure to give. I have learnt how to manage these pressures, giving in the context of what i have and my other needs.
Not so for my wife! She often gives all her money by the first week of the month and needs to be supported till the end of the month. Because of that, she often owes a lot
of her colleagues, and people who sell things to her. Recently she took a loan for business but spent almost all of it on CHURCH programmes. Then she bought a lot of things
on credit.

Now her creditors are on her neck. She doesn't have the money to give them because her company is deducting heavily from her salary to pay the loan. Yet she pays almost all
what is left of her salary on tithe and for other programmes (partnerships)!!!!

I have tried to reason with her on how to give reasonable, but she has refused to follow my advice, saying she doesn't want to be persecuted! Yet she cries everyday to help her settle
her debts! ( I have done these several times but this time, i want the follow of her actions to stater her in the face!)

Transition to better accounting system caused delay in corps members’ allowance

The attention of the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi has been drawn to the controversy and speculation in the media over the delay of the April allowance of corps members.

The Minister has been informed that this delay is not unique to corps members but also affects some civil servants in the employ of the Federal Government.

“It is not deliberate but as a result of the transition to the new and better secured Integrated Payroll Payment System, as part of Government’s commitment to transparency and accountability,” he said.

The Minister has however been assured by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) that by this weekend all administrative issues pertaining to the allowance of corps members would be sorted out and they could look forward to receiving their April and May allowances.

He regrets whatever inconvenience this delay might have caused our loyal and dutiful corps members, and urged them to continue to serve Nigeria selflessly.

Yes, i attend Christ Embassy church in Abuja and i have had cause to disagree with what he has said a couple of times.

The fact that the church collected money before allowing people into its New year's Service some years back was criticised by me.

I think that was crass materialism and had nothing to do with the gospel. I also hate the fact that the church places too much

premium on giving. So i dont worship Pastor Chris. I make my OWN mind after listening and checking the word for myself.

However, I have to confess that I am not very popular in church. Every one else likes to say, Pastor (Chris) says this or that. Me,

I would rather quote Jesus Christ.

Are we so pessimistic that we can't even give the government benefit of the doubt? Must we criticise every policy of Govt? Can we truly say we are happy with the state of the NYSC now?

I think policy is well thought out and it is good for the country and corps members. The essence of the NYSC is service, it is not an internship, scheme, or time for people to waste their time. This reform provides real opportunity for corps members to really serve the Fatherland.
From what I gather too they will also benefit from professional trainings.

For me, my service some years ago was just a waste of time. No focus. No job experience. Nothing. Now corps members can really serve.

Come to think of it, Nigerians serve in rural areas and do all sorts of community jobs in foreign countries as part of the technical aides corps. if we can do it abroad, Why cant we do it here?

I am member of CeC and I laugh at the charity they do. It is not funded by the church from tithe and offering but specifically paid for by members through partnerships. So after paying tithe, offering and sowing seeds, pastors insist on partnerships from members, which are supposedly used for different forms of charity. So strictly speaking, whatever good is done by the church is funded through giving by members specifically for that purpose.

Two questions arise from this:

What does the church do with the offerings, seeds and tithes it collects?

Secondly, why doesn't the church give account of the money it collects in forms of partnership?
Christianity EtcRe: Is Rhapsody Of Realities Really A Scam? by Marchman: 7:04pm On Feb 05, 2012
Thanks Gray Beard. I think some one has to remind Joagbaje that churches are not businesses. They ve been so taken in by 'new revelations' that they ve ceased to be compassionate to the poor and deify their pastors. If he doesn't know , abroad, churches run soup kitchen where the poor are fed for free of charge. There are so many foundations that provide free books and other resources free of charge to students and people who need them. The problem with Iberian Christianity is that the spirit of materialism has taken over. If this was othe Christianity introduced by theciatholics, I dare say that our for ethers would phase rejected them!
