knightsTempler: Little wonder robbery is on the rise, this cults guy takes to robbery at night and cult activities by day. And this is because we have a lame govt in Lagos, whose primary duty is to destroy market across the state, while they turn a blind eye to the activities of the cultist/robbers.
Eko onibaje! They will turn a blind eye because those cultist are their boys. They use them as political thugs during election and at other times to perpetuate their heinous political crimes. You will be surprised that if any of these cultists are arrested a big shot politician will simply call to secure their release. |

Business › It Is Getting Rougher For Oil Dependent Economies: Oil Slumps To $30: by mark3009(op): 7:55am On Jan 13, 2016 |
While we are still nursing the wounds from the crash of the naira and hoping for a rebound the price of oil has slipped further to about $30. Read the report below: Akinpelu Dada & ‘Femi Asu The suggestion on Tuesday by Nigeria’s Minister of State forPetroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, for an emergency meeting of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries amid the sustained oil price slump met with opposition from another member of the cartel, the United Arab Emirates. The global benchmark Brent crude extended its decline on Tuesday, slipping towards $30 per barrel for the first time since April 2004, before rising slightly above $31 per barrel. But the pick-up was short-lived as Brent later fell below $31.Kachikwu, who briefly served as OPEC president last year before Nigeria’s tenure expired on December 31, was quoted as saying that OPEC would soon make efforts to convene before the next scheduled meeting in June as the slump in oil prices was hurting producers, including the world’s biggest exporter, Saudi Arabia. The 13 members of the OPEC will work toward meeting in early March, Kachikwu said in an interview in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.Bloombergquoted him to have said that members were already engaged in informal discussions with some non-OPEC producers, including Russia, to join any future production cut to shore up prices, he said.“We are definitely looking at a time frame in very early March. You will very necessarily have to have an OPEC meeting because the group first has to meet and decide on its position before having formal meetings with other producers to coordinate a cut,” he said.Brent crude closed at $43 per barrel on the day of the last OPEC meeting on December 4, and was trading at $30.54 per barrel at 6.10pm Nigerian time on Tuesday.OPEC, which supplies about 40 per cent of the world’s oil, decided not to cut production in December, potentially worsening a glut created after producers from the US to Russia and Saudi Arabia pumped more than demand warranted.I Read full report below: http://www.punchng.com/oil-slumps-to-30-opec-splits-over-meeting/ |

State govts should be working with a 'worst case scenario' mentality. They don't need to be told to beef up IGR within their various states.
FG must of necessity speed up the diversification process. Agriculture is the way to go here. I really don't know why we import rice still; is our locally grown rice that bad in taste?
All these economic hardships we face at the present, clearly shows that we never envisaged a time like this. I certainly hope Nigeria does not belong to the comity of nations with NFA (no future ambitions) How do you beef up igr when most of the workers are going to be laid off and the few the companies in existence are struggling to survive? For ur info many eastern states are patronising innoson...the company is focusing on export sef....gis cars are hot cakes in Togo and so many African countries. If innoson already has a problem meeting up with demand why do you want others to patronize him when obviously he does not have the capacity to take on more orders. |
Politics › Post Crude Oil Nigerian Economy: Why The Niger Delta Will Still Be Most Relevant by mark3009(op): 8:21pm On Dec 30, 2015 |
This is a rebuttal to the post titled "Now That Crude Is Gradually Becoming Worthless, What Next For Niger Delta?" in the post the op along with some ill-informed folks were of the opinion that the Niger Delta will become economically irrelevant in a post-crude oil Nigerian economy. The ND will not only remain relevant it will still continue to be the most relevant region for the following reasons: 1.) Natural gas :Natural gas will likely become the next cash cow for Nigeria after crude. Nigeria has the 7th largest natural gas reserve in the world and most of these gas reserves are in the ND. 2.) Most of Nigeria's electricity is generated with gas so the entire nation will continue to depend on the ND for both domestic and industrial power needs. 3.) Local consumption of fuel, diesel and kerosene will still come from the ND. Nigeria consumes about 39.66 million litres of fuel per day. This is apart from diesel and kerosene. Without the ND other sections of the country will simply not be able to function economically because we all know that transportation is the artery of any economy. 4.) petrochemicals. People tend to forget that petrol and diesel are not the only products you get from petroleum. You also get petrochemicals which are used in various industries. We only need to setup petrochemical plantsbin the ND. |

babaolofin: I stop posting log time ago, though I was forced to come during the election to form intellectual online warhorse that fought the recent mismanagement and wastage ever witnessed in the Africa. Most of the comments here are childish and lack any intellectual research or analysis.
1. Those people that are complaining should start planning of how to relocate out of Lagos. One of their girl-child novelist even took the Oba of Lagos to an International Court, I am still waiting for the outcome. 2. Somebody said Ogun has only one cement factory which serves Lagos market. That is why we stopped commenting or even checking political page on nairaland. People are so lazy to do little research even using google. I believe only main market traders make such comments. Ogun has four major factories, 3. PortHarcourt ports will be made unseable for them by Ijaws after few years due to their criminal and selfish nature. They will try to dominate Ijaws and Ogonis, they will be resisted. Other nations will support Ijaws, Calabaris, Ogonis against them. 4. International airports abroad will find it easy to screen flight from their territory deeply. They caused most harassment and embarrassment being meted to Nigerians abroad. 5. etc And you call this intellectual contribution? SMH. |

TheDevilIsALai: All it takes for Ogun free trade zone and repackaging companies to collapse is for the foriegn owners to quit and relocate some place else.
And there are many socioeconomic reasons that could lead to that.
But Aba will simply adjust to whatever trend and continue.
Why? Because Aba gave birth to their own industry.
You are beating your flat chest for renting land to foriegners who employ you as factory labourers and you call that development
Mental slavery Industries in ogun free trade zone will not run without the power Which is generated from ND gas reserves. |

Bryan37: It's no news that only 13% of 2016 budget will be funded by the SALE of Crude
Which means that Nigeria is gradually diversifying its economy away from the Oil sector which is expected to even "nose down more". By d time Iran starts pumping their Oil into the international Market, also with d demand for cleaner energy rising day by day and d Cost becoming cheaper and cheaper, I can tell u that in d Next 20 yrs a bucket of Clean water may worth more than a bucket of toxic crude.
What will become of ND a report that has been raped by the Nigeria Government for the past 10 decade
I keep wondering if d OIL was a gift or a curse to this region which made them so Lazy, Corrupt and underdeveloped. Infact d most popular Slogan in d Niger Delta is " our oyel".
The only time ND man is considered in the scheme of things in Nigeria is compensation because of their Oil. Eg emergence of Goodluck Jonathan etc,
Now that the value is gradually diminishing and d reseRve trying, you wonder if this region has done enough or if they are prepared for the storm coming their way.
I must confess, am happy we re moving away from Oil and you are happy too but what will become of our brothers who only relevant is dependent on CRUDE You are very dumb. The gas that Nigeria sells to other countries which is likely to be the next cash cow where do you think the gas reserves are from? As a matter of fact without the ND you won't even have electricity in other parts of the country. |
