I am very ashamed to say that one of my close male relatives molested another of my female relative. It happened so many years ago and I just found out last week. Only few of us know. It is still largely kept as a family secret. No one reported to the cops because of shame. As close as I am to my mother---she tells me everything that happens in the family---she refused to tell me about the incidence; but after much persuasion and swearing me to secrecy, she finally let me in on it. So many girls and women are constantly abused in Nigeria, but because of our culture, we tend to wash our dirty linens in private. In most cases, the victims are even blamed for it. When it comes to women's rights, we have long ways to go.
