The Google Earth app is incredibly popular on iOS, and the Mountain View company has finally updated it to support 64-bit iPhone and iPad CPUs. This means the app can now run on iOS 11, which does not launch any 32-bit-only apps. As well as much-needed architectural compatibility, the update brings a redesign and several new flagship features, including Flyover-esque 3D views of major cities and ‘Voyager’ guided tours. Google Earth was one of the most downloaded 32-bit apps on the App Store until today. Its fate was in doubt ever since Apple announced plans to fully drop compatibility with 32-bit apps earlier this year. The Google Earth app has received only six updates in the last five years, leading many to believe Google would simply retire the app when Apple forced its hand (Google seemingly dedicates most of its iOS mapping resources to the Google Maps app). However, that has turned out not to be the case as version ‘9.0.78’ released today adds the necessary 64-bit support, in time for iOS 11’s public debut in September. The new Voyager feature offers guided tours around significant landmarks and Points of Interest. There are more than 50 stories to explore, discussing various scientific and ecological issues affecting the planet today.3D mode is exactly like Flyover from Apple Maps, allowing users to pan through a 3D environment of major cities, highlighting major landmarks and buildings (including the work-in-progress Apple Park as pictured above). One advantage Google Maps has is that users can dive directly from the 3D view into Street View,a service Apple Maps still doesn’t offer.Users can also make a digital postcard of a location using the Camera button, to share with friends. This update also brings a fresh new icon for the user’s home screen. The new Google Earth app is available for free in the App Store, for iPhone and iPad. Some features require you to sign in to a Google account. Andy Rubin and co.’s Essential Phone is finally gearing up to launch sometime in the next few weeks, and while it was officially announced all the way back at the end of May, small details about the handset are still trickling in. The latest is a screenshot from the phone shared by Essential’s Jason Mackenzie, showing a larger-than-usual status bar…The screenshot was shared in the context of a conversation unrelated to the status bar, but that top-of-screen black bar of icons is the only interesting thing to see here. As you can see, screenshots from the phone are going to reflect the new thicker status bar, which compensates for the fact that the phone has a bezel-less display and a small camera cutout along the top edge. We’re fairly certain this is the first screenshot from the phone to appear on the web. And since the phone is nearing launch, it’s pretty likely that this is an accurate representation of what screenshots from the phone will look like when taken from a unit running production software. The Essential Phone is going to be priced starting at $699, and brings a near-bezel-free design (as you can see above), a premium titanium and ceramic body, a connector for modular accessories, and an impressive spec sheet. There’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, a 13MP dual-rear-camera and an 8MP front shooter. https://9to5google.com/2017/07/31/essential-phone-big-status-bar/?_e_pi_=7%2CPAGE_ID10%2C6372655301 |

Sometimes it’s the little things that are the most frustrating, and you can say that about Android quite a lot, unfortunately. One of those issues which users have complained about for years is the lack of a Bluetooth battery indicator in the OS, but it seems that Google is finally delivering on that feature in a future version of the OS. So first things first, what exactly does this feature do? In short, it tells you the current battery status of your connected Bluetooth accessory. The functionality to do this has long been a part of the Bluetooth standard, Google just hasn’t taken advantage of it in stock Android. Meanwhile, Apple has long implemented this in iOS, and several Android OEMs including Samsung and LG have also added it to their Android skins. Why Google has avoided this for so long is beyond my understanding, but thankfully, the company seems to be finally coming to its senses. As discovered by XDA Developers, it seems as though Google is preparing to add this long-awaited feature to Android in an upcoming update to the OS. Before you get too excited, sadly, it doesn’t seem like the initial Android O release will include this. XDA discovered a handful of new commits within AOSP which shows that Google is working with some new Bluetooth APIs which revolve around the ability to pull battery information from the connected device. Unlike clunky third-party versions of this functionality, it seems as though Google’s implementation of this feature will include the ability to show battery percentage from 0-100%. That also gives developers the option to show specific percentages in areas outside of the status bar, perhaps a homescreen widget or notification. It’s great to see that Google is finally adding this functionality to Android, as it will be good for everyone. The Pixel family gets a welcome new feature, and Android OEMs don’t have to work as hard to implement it. It’s a win-win, but obviously, it’s going to be a bit before we see it live. Android ODP4 is pretty much what we’ll be seeing in the final version of Android O, and this feature isn’t available.Rather, it seems like this one is going to land in Android 8.1 or perhaps 9.0. https://9to5google.com/2017/07/31/android-bluetooth-battery-indicator/?_e_pi_=7%2CPAGE_ID10%2C9556768648 |

Sebastine1994:Smh. Didn't you read that he was a fraudster and his story is just a ploy to extort her mum. Op, I advice you to get the man's number and if possible, track him or call him if you can't track him and threaten him to leave your mother alone. |
Reverse psychology, nice one. |
