Coronavirus, Cancelled Flights and the Appearing of an Angel

I was billed to leave Germany on Saturday morning. Our flight with Turkish Airlines was to leave Germany at 6:55am. By 6:30am there was nobody in sight at the Turkish Airlines boarding corner of the Airport.

“What’s happening”, was the expression written on everyone’s face.

A few minutes later, the people to check us in announced: Turkey has barred all foreigners from coming into their country and this would include those of us transiting through the country.

“What happened?” We asked.

Coronavirus.

This announcement was also coinciding with Donald Trump’s speech that had barred most Europeans from entering the USA.

We were told that their plane could only carry their own nationals. The rest of us were on our own.

Ha!

A lady beside me was already in tears. Me? Confused. How do I continue in this horrendous cold of Germany? What do I eat; where will one sleep; and most importantly, how does one return to Nigeria? Those were the questions on my mind when I approached one of the guys by the ticket counter and asked… He referred me to Turkish Airlines enquires desk.

By the time I got there, the place was filled with people. Everyone was asking the same question: how do we leave Germany?

At first we were told we would be refunded our monies. But, thankfully, there was another policy somersault: we would all be placed in different airlines back to our destinations – I got Airfrance. That’s the good news, which should always come first. The bad news: the earliest flight I could get was Sunday, 6am. I must wait out another 24 hours in Berlin!

My colleague was already feeling unwell. We would discover later that the cold had gotten into his chest and another two hours outside would have been sure pneumonia.

My head started to work. I remembered that I had put out a post on Facebook talking about my visit to Berlin. One person, only one o, got in touch with me privately, saying that he lives in Berlin and it would be a pleasure to meet me. That my writing inspires him. His name: Taiwo Arowoyele. I sent him a PM saying in short: “Help!”

He sent us an address not too from the airport, and in a few minutes we where in this God-sent man’s living room, sipping hot tea. My colleague drank four cups before he could recover himself.

Taiwo Arowoyele is a Nigerian living in Berlin and having trained as a Social Worker in Lithuania, he returned to Berlin to work. He also does some business by the side. Taiwo is not wealthy but he has heart large enough to share.

Taiwo settles us into a room and gave us out first and only taste of rice in Berlin. He served it with tough chicken and some good “shaki”. We just kept saying thank you.

Later in the day, Taiwo took us out to see downtown Berlin. We took the subway, branched at an eatery to munch on chips and chicken, and then we went around the city center taking pictures. It was fun. And the disappointment of the cancelled flight soon faded away. In fact I was thankful for missing that flight. For then I might not have met this angel.

Early Sunday morning, Taiwo called a taxi for us and we got to the airport early enough to meet our flight.

Taiwo had begun to follow my writing on Facebook after watching my video on tithing (it appears to me that a lot more Nigerians abroad saw that video). It is the same time Taiwo that God sent as help to us. Those of you who vilify Facebook – see how it has helped me �. As I type this, I am in Paris awaiting my transit flight to Lagos.

This is what Coronavirus has done to us o… but with this disappointment came a blessing. I return to Nigeria by the grace of God to a sure two weeks quarantine.

The Senate President, Ahmed Lawan should be very careful with the kind of things happening in this present house, he is fast heading as the worst Senate President ever in the history of this country.

He should look at David Mark and Bukola Saraki, and know that it's only a little time , he would be like them.

For this bill to even surface in the hallowed Chambers is a big affront, slap, humiliation, disgrace, insult to the victims of Boko Haram, and by extension the good people of Nigeria.

What is Boko Haram's Ideology, what are they fighting for. "Western Education is Evil'.

They never agitated for good governance, resource control, improvement of life and infrastructure, never. They don't want Western Education.

Ironically, the bill is now proposing to send them to the Western world for education, same thing they termed evil. How more contradictory and confusing can they sound?

It is an act of wickedness, selfishness, evil greed and meaness, that nobody ever thought of the victims of these evil. The women who were raped, the people who were kidnapped, those who were massacred, those whose houses were burnt and are now living in IDPs, those who have been chased from their ancestral lands, those whose daily means of livelyhood has been destroyed, most especially our gallant soldiers who have died defending a National honour, and then their widows and families, the initiator of this bill never thought of these people, but only came up with a bill to give criminals a good life, obviously for a job well done.

First they changed the nomenclature from terrorist to Agitators, that's the first act of evil. Second they were branded repentant Boko Haram.
The question sensible Nigerians has been asking is what are the parameters to determine that they repentant?
Secondly such amnesty is being granted only when they completely agree to drop arms, but in this case the war is still on going, and you are giving some of them amnesty, on what basis?

Does the Senate really understand how this singular act will be seen by the international community? Recently we saw US placing visa ban on Nigeria citing security concerns, very soon other Nations are going to emulate USA and Nigeria will be seen as a breeding ground for terrorists.

Shame on anybody that is in support of this act of evil directly or indirectly, this bill is inhumane, wicked, evil, chaotic and inciting.

That means the easiest way to get foreign education is to join Boko Haram, Kill our soldiers and other people for sometime, and then claim to be repentant, boom, you have a foreign education. This bill will simply encourage other people to join Boko Haram as it is the surest
way to secure a good future.

Back then who send teaching job but right now teaching job looks very Lucrative and attracting in the eyes of job seekers. And the exploitation and segregation continue, even getting a teaching job is by man no man.

You know what any time I look at Nigeria, I can't hold it but shake my head and shrug my shoulder . A country almighty God blessed with optimum population and lots of natural endowment wasting away while countries that have little of what we have keeps making exploits and pursuing a common goal of making the world a better place by ensuring good life for its Citizens.

If Nigeria were to be a business entity mehn it would have folded since 30 years ago. How can you have herders at the helm of affairs and expect a magic turn around. mehn you can't give what you don't have.

To my dear Undergraduates please and please don't spend all your years in the University burning candles upon candle. If you read small just tap yourself and remind yourself that there is no job out there. Go out and build the spirit of hustlng. If you raise small money, start Photocopying business, buy Keke if you have the money or start a Barbing Saloon or even you can sell Okirika, just come to Lagos and buy and sell in the Campus. If you are a girl you can start hairdresser, manicure center, make up business or bead making.

When you graduate and go for service, build your contact and make friends with the sons and daughters of the rich if you are not unfortunate to be sent to interior village like Ikwo in Ebonyi state so that when you pass out you will ride on those contact to get a lucrative job offer. You can equally fall back on the business you established as Undergraduate while awaiting your dream job.


To the unemployed graduate out there. Time have come when you must tell yourself the bitter truth, otherwise you will live in penury and regret of ever acquiring that certificate. Dump that certificate in that your rusty box, fold your arms, your trouser and enter the street. If you see whoever that will give you Keke Carry. If it is farm that is at your reach go into it. if it is Camera you can lay your hands on, become a Mobile Photographer. Go into the market learn skills like phone repair, Latest TV repair or computer repair and make money. Go to Alaba, Computer Vilage or Emeka ofor Plaza in Onitsha and hustle your way out of poverty. Some of the dirty looking guys you see everyday ae making the money some of these Corperate organisations cannot pay any of their staff.


The Bitter truth is that living in Nigeria now, one need to think out of the box. You can equally become a Freelancer online and make money conveniently fron the comfort of your home without answering anybody sir or Ma. With the cost of running Coperate organisation going up everyday , Corperate organsiations are now resorting to engaging freelancers for diiferent services such as graphics design, digital marketing or Mobile App development and others. You can learn these skills this year and start earning morning just with yoir laptop and internet connection.
The irony is that First school leaving certificate owner is the president while a law graduate is now a sales girl and a Engineering graduate is now a primary school teacher.
