This thread stinks of hypocrisy and double standard. It also justifies why reasonable Nigerians like us are against Peter Obi’s ambition. We saw through the lies, emptiness, planlessness, bigotry, and lack of understanding of how to solve the problems facing Nigeria.

That Peter Obi will not solve one shishi of Nigeria’s problems is not even the issue. The issue is that folks like the OP will pollute the social media space with excuses as to why he’s doing Nigeria a big favour by not solving any problems. They are already opening threads to defend failure even before the election. What will they not do after election?

Nigerians have a lot of choices before them. They have candidates with track records of providing sustainable solutions to identified problems. We afford to discard our best brains for third class brains out of sentiments. Peter Obi doesn’t have what is required to turn around the country. He just doesn’t have the brain for the office.

I have never physically met APC Vice Presidential candidate Kashim Shettima, but I have communicated with him for extended periods over the past seven years. I’ve found him to be a man of vast and versatile erudition and a bibliophile who is enamored of his own rhetorical and expressive flourishes. It’s precisely this characteristic that may be his undoing in national politics.

Nowhere has this become more apparent than in his widely panned September 15 speech during the 96th anniversary celebration of the Yoruba Tennis Club in Ikoyi, Lagos, where he attributed to Bola Ahmed Tinubu praiseworthy qualities he isolated in past Nigerian presidents and heads of state.

The News Agency of Nigeria quoted Shettima as saying Nigeria needs a leader who has the “humility and generosity of spirit” of Yakubu Gowon, the “work ethic and broadmindedness” of Olusegun Obasanjo, the “situational pragmatism and…Maradonic skill” of Ibrahim Babangida, “the hospitality” of Sani Abacha, “the vision and sense of responsibility” of Abdulsalami Abubakar, and the “abnegation and commitment” of Muhammadu Buhari.

Shettima clarified in a September 16 tweet that he “never attributed hospitality to Abacha” in his speech. “I did a rundown of our past Presidents and played up ‘the taciturnity and a dose of ruthlessness of a Sani Abacha’ to show we need strongmen to deal with the nonstate actors who’ve turned Nigeria into a vast killing-field,” he tweeted.

Shettima’s speech was clearly a case of the sacrifice of substance on the altar of stylistic convenience. In other words, Shettima appeared to be more concerned with lyrical bravado than with meaning, more in love with verbal exuberance than with the correctness or appropriateness of the claims of his words.

But the general population isn’t as kind to him in their interpretive rendition of his speech as I am. And for good reason. Using the resources of basic logic and contemporary history, many—perhaps most— Nigerians understood his speech as a threat of existential annihilation to them should he and Tinubu get elected as vice president and president. Here’s why.

Yes, relative to other past presidents and heads of state, Obasanjo has an admirable work ethic and is broadminded. And, yes, Gowon is indisputably humble and generous in spirit. But it stretches credulity to the elastic limit to even remotely suggest that Tinubu embodies or shares these qualities. Like every human being Tinubu has his good qualities, but he is anything but humble and generous in spirit. And, in his current state, he is anything but a workaholic.

More crucially, though, the other qualities Shettima associated with other past presidents and heads of state are either demonstrably inaccurate or unworthy of celebration. Take, for example, the notion of Buhari’s “abnegation and commitment.” No claim can be more dishonest than that.

Abnegation means “renunciation of your own interests in favor of the interests of others.” There has been no more self-loving, self-interested, self-centered leader in the entire history of Nigeria than Muhammadu Buhari. He is a classic, unashamed, sadistic narcissist.

The first major project Buhari executed upon becoming president in 2015 was to build a multi-million-naira vanity helipad for his exclusive use in his hometown of Daura, which would be useless from May 2023. Not even Goodluck Jonathan who got a lot of hell from civil society groups for corruption built a helipad for himself in his hometown of Otueke.

Additionally, Buhari’s penchant for going to London to treat even his littlest illnesses (including an ear infection that had already been treated in Nigeria), his high-priced sartorial excesses, and his fondness for extortionately elaborate red-carpet ceremonies each time he leaves the country and returns to it do not square with the profile of a person who embodies “abnegation.”

Let’s not even talk of the presidential air fleet that needlessly and avoidably drains Nigeria’s national resources, which Buhari had promised to get rid of but on which he spends billions on maintenance.

And Buhari’s “commitment”? Seriously? What commitment? I have argued in several previous columns that Buhari’s inexplicably frenzied globetrotting even after his government proclaimed a new policy that reduced the frequency and duration of foreign travels by government officials reputedly as a “cost-saving measure” shows that his wanderlust is actuated by his resentment of Nigeria. A man who is committed to Nigeria won’t have an obsessive-compulsive impulse to desert the country at the slightest opportunity.

To suggest that Tinubu personifies Buhari’s “abnegation and commitment” is to unintentionally demarket Tinubu and threaten Nigerians.

But it gets worse. The quality of “situational pragmatism and…Maradonic skill” that Shettima associated with Babangida— and implied Tinubu possesses— is a negative trait. Situational pragmatism is no more than a sophisticated euphemism for opportunism, and when people called Babangida “Maradona” or “Maradonic” in the Lagos press in the 1990s, they did so with an unmistakable tone of disapproval.

Maradona was notorious for his intricate dribbling and for his occasional, dishonest, sleight-of-hand goals such as his infamous 1986 FIFA World Cup “the-hand-of-God” goal against England where he illegally used his hand to score but evaded the sanction of the referee because he wasn’t caught—or his illegal interception of a shot from the former USSR during the 1990 World Cup with "the hand of God" without the referee seeing him.

So, Maradona and “Maradonic” symbolize elaborate deception and Machiavellianism. Babangida dribbled the nation, like Maradona, through his dizzyingly never-ending transition to nowhere, his interminable banning and unbanning of politicians, his “settlement” of critics, and ultimately scored a sleight-of-hand goal against politicians—and Nigeria—when he invalidated the results of the June 12, 1993, election that MKO Abiola was poised to win.

People are entitled to be alarmed if this is the quality Shettima admires in Babangida and says Tinubu exemplifies.

Perhaps even more worrying is that Shettima thinks Sani Abacha’s “taciturnity” and “ruthlessness” are virtues to be cherished, celebrated, and expected in a president in 2023. Being communicative is a central attribute of successful democratic leaders. Taciturnity, that is, being uncommunicative is an abhorrent vice in a democracy, and we see it in Buhari who habitually ignores Nigerians.

Given that Tinubu has started to avoid the media limelight that he had once jealously hugged—apparently to conceal his all-too-obvious mental and physical infirmities—Shettima’s embrace of taciturnity as a quality we should expect in a president sounds to me like a threat to continue with the lusterlessness that has defined Buhari’s leadership in the past seven years.

And “ruthlessness” in a democracy? What was Shettima thinking? I get that the outlaws that have made life in Nigeria precarious and brutish deserve to be crushed with ruthless force. But you don’t need to embody the ruthlessness of Abacha to do that. You only need to be a decisive leader who cares for the people—unlike Buhari—to tackle and tame the insecurity that plagues Nigeria. Ruthlessness isn’t a quality a democratic leader should possess.

Given what I know of Shettima, I am certain that he didn’t intend to unsell or undersell his boss. He appears to just love the show of erudition and bibliophilia that comes from his exhibitionistic verbal swagger. It may excite his admirers and may even be cherished by Nigerian rhetorical scholars, but it’s a treacherous political minefield.

A story of an ungrateful house husband who turned social media hero... Read the rise and fall of Rhino:

Like I've always said, Rhino is not who he says he is....

First of all, his real name is Bemi**o...

I will start with the most recent lie he told...

24 hours ago, Rhino claimed that he bought his house in USA before joining the President Goodluck Jonathan's administration.

Well, the truth is that RHINO HAS NEVER BOUGHT A HOUSE IN THE USA....

The said house was bought by his ex-wife, Tuokpe Onuwaje in 2009. The house, 1*41 ******* street, Brentwood, California belongs is Tuokpe Onuwaje's family home.
Rhino was a house husband in the house - Rhino had no job, no career but the well established Onuwaje's family in the USA welcomed him and accomodated him.
Rhino was doing "pastor pastor" so the Onuwaje family trusted him and started exposing him to their network.

For your information, the Onuwaje family is well established in California. The matriarch of the Onuwajes , 81 year old Mama Ayo Onuwaje is still living at the Brentwood home which Rhino claims he bought.

Rhino was broke and broken when Tuokpe Onuwaje picked him up. How did he reward Tuokpe? I'll get to that.

Through Tuokpe's elder brother, Godwin Onuwaje (May his soul rest in peace), an Igbo man, Barr. Emeka Maduewesi picked interest in Rhino. This connection would later link Rhino to late Oronto Douglas who was then SSA on Strategy to then President Goodluck Jonathan.

In 2010, Rhino quickly conjured a skit tittled "Emeka" to advocate for a better Nigerian branding. This was probably done to convince or fool Emeka Maduewesi into introducing him to the upper echelon.

Well, Rhino always has a way of using people - especially Igbos. He would later interview Oronto Douglas. That was his entry point into the Goodluck Jonathan administration. It was Oronto Douglas that first asked him to run errands for him and then proceeded to get him on Presidency's payroll.
Rhino jumped on the offer - a proof that he was unemployed in the USA and found the opportunity of earning N1 m per month ($2000) a big financial breakthrough. Rhino's job was to manage the Facebook and Twitter account of Mr. Jonathan. Slowly, he would label himself Spokesman of the President - a subtle way to exaggerate his role in the presidency.

With his new found job, Rhino started displaying his real character. He quickly forgot the years Tuokpe worked her a** off to feed, clothe and shelter him. He has become a big fish in Abuja. He would later be accused of making sexual advances at friends of Tuokpe - yes, Natasha Akpoti is Tuokpe close friend. For your information, Natasha Akpoti deleted her accusations to respect her friendship with Tuokpe and not because Rhino threatened lawsuit. Natasha was also planning to get married at the time she made the accusation and didn't want to drag the name of her royal husband to be into the mud with a shameless Rhino. Now you know why the post was deleted. But again, Rhino took credit for something Tuokpe's influence accomplished - this is what he has done over the years, taking credit for what Tuokpe achieved including claiming ownership of their Brentwood home.

At this point, I make bold to challenge Rhino to show evidence that he owns the Brentwood California home. In fact, let Rhino show evidence of ownership of any asset anywhere in the world.

The first time Rhino ever got a job in his life was when Oronto Douglas sneaked him into Jonathan's administration. Unfortunately, this season revealed his true self to his ex-wife who realised that her "pastor pastor" House husband had an alleged double identity, alleged double sexuality, and confirmed double tongue. She would later dump him to focus on raising her kids who were abandoned by their father.

It will shock you to know that Rhino never invested a cent from his time in the job.... Upon leaving office, Rhino returned to the USA only to discover that he was now homeless.

That was when he started his Rhino- Around the World. He started a nomadic homeless life - using his new found fame to get free swimming invitations to several rivers in the world. Someone said that Rhino lives off women and that his travelling is funded by "rivers" he is swimming around the world.

Rhino's travelling is actually a vagabond lifestyle - a survival Strategy he devised to hide his homelessness. Everyone thought he was traveling round the world on a global tour and thus nobody cared to ask about Tuokpe and the children at home.
His trip took him to an Ethiopian river. Rivers in Ethiopia do not encourage life jackets so what happened was a reproduction of another river from the Ethiopian river. Rhino's world collapsed. He had been caught. First, he tried to hide it. But with people like Charles Awuzie, his doubleheader life was exposed. However, the birth of the new Nigerian-Ethiopian beauty gave Rhino something he hasn't had in a long time - a home.
So as we speak, if you check the transparency tool on Rhino's page, you will discover that it says something like "this page is managed by one person who lives in Ethiopia....USA... Nigeria." Rhino now spends most of his time in Ethiopia - once again, housed by his Ethiopian woman and forgotten by his family in California. He owns no house in Ethiopia. He owns no house in USA. He sleeps from hotel to hotel as he travels for Poi across the world - bankrolled by his "rivers".

My question is this - Rhino, at 48, when will you stop living a double life? This thing of a double life is not new - Ms. Wendell (daughter in-law of the Onuwajes) was the first to expose his tendency to live a double life. If you doubt me, just google his name and add Double identity and see what comes up.

This is just a piece of the iceberg....

I challenge Rhino to dispute any information I exposed here....

In all his years in the USA, he owned no house, no business, no job and only used "pastor pastor" to manipulate those around him.

Ask Rhino about Emeka Maduewesi - the Igbo man who helped him in life. Emeka is 100% Obidient today. In fact, I went to Emeka's wall and saw where Emeka said those supporting Atiku are hungry for food. I knew Emeka had Rhino in mind.

I'll stop here as I wait for a DEAR CHARLES AWUZIE and then the screenshots, documents etc will start rolling.

For now, I want you to know that Rhino is not who he claims he is.... He is broke, broken and uses women. This is why he publicly despises women, objectifies their body and advises men not to give girls money because he actually takes from women, he hardly gives to women. He However gives to men - if you know, you know.

Anybody planning a rally or whatever it is should have a serious rethink. The security situation in the country is more than enough reason for anybody planning whatever to desist from such plan.

I'm sure if or when they hold that rally, and things go south, this same Peter Obi and his cronies will be the ones blaming the government for what they use their hands to cause.
