Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has blamed the current economic hardship being faced by Nigerians on the last administration led by Muhammadu Buhari.

The governor alleged that Buhari supervised the printing and sharing of about N30 trillion.

Mutfwang stated this during the swearing-in of 22 Special Advisers and heads of government agencies at the Government House in Jos on Monday.

Mutfwang said Buhari left the country’s economy in terrible shape for his successor, President Tinubu.

“We are at a very difficult juncture in the history of this country and I’m an advocate that after the election you forget politics and face governance,” Mutfwang said.

“And even though the Federal Government is being led by a party other than my own, I owe you the duty to tell Nigerians the truth that this government inherited a worse situation than 1999.

“This government inherited an economy where we simply printed money up to the tune of N30tn and shared.

“This government inherited an economy where the crude oil we’re yet to take out of the ground had been sold in advance.

“So, when you’re talking about the fall of the naira, it’s not rocket science. We sold our future under the last administration.

“No wonder you’re hearing of riots today, people intercepting food on the way. We are lucky on the plateau that perhaps we have more food than many other states.

“And I pray that the time will not come on the Plateau that we will see this kind of riot for food, but it means we must roll up our sleeves and get to work.

“And that is why, for us as a government, when we announced one of the positions that talked about food security, people were laughing but it is a serious issue.”

The governor announced plans by his administration to set up a special agro-processing zone in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area in partnership with the African Development Bank to the tune of $300 million.

He called on the new appointees to brace up for the challenge to enable his administration to reverse the ugly situation for the good of the people.

“And to tell you that some of the appointees, I don’t know them, but because we want to get things done, we’re looking for the right people,” he said.

The Nigerian Military has expressed support for the vow made by Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, to assist security agents in eradicating killer herdsmen from the forests in the South-West.

Spokesman of the Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, in a statement at the weekend further emphasized the collective effort required to combat the nation’s security challenges.

He remarked, “I have not seen the video where he made that statement, but one thing I must say is that people and communities are always welcomed. If what he said is to make the situation better, he is welcomed, but if what he is saying is that we should disregard the armed forces of Nigeria, definitely, he is out of line because that is against Nigeria’s constitution.”

In an operational update, Buba shared that in February 2024, the armed forces neutralized 974 terrorists, apprehended 621, and successfully rescued 466 kidnapped hostages. “For us, creating a safer environment for citizens translates to eliminating all threats hindering the safety and security of citizens. Troops conducted synchronised strikes between the ground and air forces on terrorist enclaves, killing a significant number of them. It is possible to say with significant certainty that these strikes have had a significant impact on the terrorists adversely,” he stated.

Don’t Pay To Repair Faulty Transformers, DisCo Tell Nigerians.

The Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED) has advised its customers in Gombe State not to pay anyone to repair faulty electricity transformers in their communities.

The Chief Security Officer, JED, Mr Musa Abdullahi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Gombe that it was not the responsibility of customers to repair faulty transformers.

Abdullahi said that residents were expected to report to the nearest JED office whenever a transformer was faulty and should not pay any of its officials to repair the transformer.

He said that instances where some members of communities were asked to contribute money to repair or replace faulty transformers was wrong, fraudulent and unacceptable.

The official advised communities in the state to report any of its staff making such illegal demands for necessary punitive action.

“We don’t collect money from communities to fix transformers so no one is expected to pay.

“For any staff to go to communities collecting N5000, N3000 or any amount per households or street is fraudulent and we frown at such.

“If you have a challenge and cannot wait for your transformers to be fixed, you write to the Managing Director through the Regional Manager that you want to support the company willingly.

“Whoever asks you for money, escalate the issue to the regional manager and we will make example of them,” he said.

Abdullahi also appealed to communities in Gombe to support the company’s efforts to protect power installations in the state.

The official further implored residents not to assault JED officials on duty, adding that it was a criminal offence to do such.(NAN)

The first phase of the project is 1,499 hectares of land that includes First Industrial Township and Logistics Park with Full Origin and Destination (OD) Inland Port connected by rail to both Port Harcourt and Onne seaports. On 14 November, 2023, the Board of Afreximbank approved $201.7million syndicated debt for the project with Afreximbank underwriting $150million. Currently, the loan legal documentation is ongoing.

The two (2) interstate highways that are vital for connectivity for the project, Enugu – Port Harcourt (200km) and Onitsha – Owerri – Aba (161km) are also concessioned to a consortium led by Enyimba Economic City Development Company FZE that includes CCECC Nigeria Limited (EPC), Escher Silverman Global, UK (Technical), Instatoll of South Africa (Operations & Management) and Afrinvest (WA) Limited (Financial). Route Survey, Redesign, Traffic Studies, Revenue Modelling, Willingness to Pay Studies, are currently ongoing on the roads. With the planned 82km highway from Azumini in Abia State bisecting the A3-Enugu Port Harcourt Highway to Obinze in Owerri, the intervention on the external connectivity makes Enyimba Economic City 90 minutes driving distance accessible to the 11 states of Southsouth/Southeast of Nigeria and connected to economic activities of the whole Nigeria. The intermodal logistics, road, rail, airport and seaports is also planned to make Enyimba Economic City a “global business hub in Nigeria” and African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) compliant.

It is noteworthy that Enyimba Economic City won the first prize of the Global New Cities Business Plan Contest of the Chartered Cities Institute in Washington DC in 2019, beating Black Stone Charter City in Australia to second prize and Novgorod New Hanse Town in Russia to third place, as a new city that has the capacity to transform the economy of the country. The award included a US$25,000 cash prize.

Enyimba Economic City Development Company FZE has started to build marketing teams by engaging zone marketing/FDI Companies in India (Crescendo Worldwide), China (Brilliance Co. AFCON Final If You Have Cardiovascular Conditions – Medical Expert Cautions Nigerians.

A medical expert was reacting to the phenomenon of people collapsing while enjoying sporting activities and during social gatherings, leading to sudden death.

Professor Ranti Familoni, an expert in Medicine and Cardiology from the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, has advised Nigerians with “unstable cardiovascular conditions” to stay away from the Sunday African Cup of Nations final between Nigeria and Ivory Coast.

The medical expert was reacting to the phenomenon of people collapsing while enjoying sporting activities and during social gatherings, leading to sudden death.

SaharaReporters few a days ago reported how an All Progressives Congress chieftain, Cairo Ojougboh, a serving National Youth Service Corps member and three others slumped and passed away while watching the Ria vs. South Africa football match on Wednesday.

Speaking in an interview with PUNCH, the medical expert confirmed that these cases of sudden cardiac death, saying it usually occur in people with underlying heart disease, which they may or may not be aware of.

He said, “For many people (when they see someone collapse), their first reaction is to run away. This is wrong. People run away from those who have epileptic attacks, saying the saliva that comes out from the mouth will make others have epilepsy, which is wrong. In running away from them, some have been left to choke from the attack and die. What people call magun during exhausting sexual intercourse might be a sudden cardiac death following exercise. The use of sexual enhancement drugs, particularly in people with underlying heart conditions, should be discouraged.”

On the final AFCON game, he said, “Use your drugs and control your emotions. I have a doctor colleague who stays away from football matches because it is difficult for him to control his emotions. However, the issue is not only for those who already know that they have heart conditions but for the very many who are not aware. Hypertension, for example, is called a silent killer because up to 50 per cent of those who have it are not aware that they have it. There is also a condition called Takotsubo cardiomyopathy in which the individual is unaware but it manifests after a stressful condition, including disappointment and bereavement, and might lead to sudden death.”

When asked who should stay away from Sunday’s match, he said, “Everybody but particularly those with what I call unstable cardiovascular conditions. The match will come and go, but the individual and his life will continue. One good thing that can come out of this unfolding event is for everyone to take time to see their doctor and check their cardiovascular status.

“The first warning is to at the very minimum check your BP. Other things might not be practicable before Sunday. If your heart starts beating too fast or irregularly, it is time to get up and probably seek help.”

List Of Nigerians Who Died During AFCON Match Against South Africa.

At least four persons died on Wednesday while watching the semi-final match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Bafana Bafana of South Africa, in the ongoing 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote D’Ivoire.
The deceased include a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Cairo Ojougboh, Deputy Bursar, Kwara State University, Malete, Ayuba Abdullahi, a corps member serving in Adamawa State, simply identified as Samuel, an Anambra-born businessman, Osondu Nwoye, based in Cote d’Ivoire and a sales rep in Abeokuta.

How They Died.
1. Cairo Ojougboh.
It was learnt that Ojougboh, who is an erstwhile member representing the Ika Federal Constituency of Delta State in the House of Representatives and former Executive Director, of Projects, on the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) slumped in his house in Abuja while watching the match.

Sources who spoke to Vanguard said the outspoken politician slumped when a penalty kick was awarded against Nigeria during the match, which gave the South Africans an equaliser.
He was said to have suffered a heart attack and was confirmed dead at a hospital he was rushed to.

2. Ayuba Abdullahi.
The Deputy Bursar of Kwara State University, also died while watching the match.
Sources close to the deceased, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Abdullahi went to a viewing centre in the Sango area before he started feeling unease.
One of the sources said, “The deputy bursar watched the Nigeria/South Africa match from the beginning till the end of the extra time, and continued till it was time for penalty kicks.

“He complained that he was feeling dizzy, so he said he needed to go back home and rest, not knowing that his BP had gone up.
“On getting home, he collapsed and was rushed to a private hospital in Sango where he was referred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital but died before he could be attended to.
“He was buried yesterday morning, according to Islamic rites.”

3. Samuel.
The young man who is an NYSC Corp member, also died during the penalty shootouts of the match.
The corps member from Kaduna State, allegedly passed away just before the final kick which secured Nigeria’s win in the match.

A post by the NYSC read: “We lost one Nigerian during our victory celebration over South Africa at our sports viewing centre here in Numan.
The corps member who is serving in Numan from Kaduna State fainted before the kick of the winning goal.
“He died before they could reach the hospital in Numan. May his soul rest in peace.”

4. Osondu Nwoye.
It was reported that the billionaire allegedly died in Ivory Coast stadium while watching the match.
Nwoye was said to be the richest Igbo businessman based in Ivory Coast before his death.
Nwoye was on top of the moon, shouting at the top of his voice when Nigerian striker, Victor Osihmen, scored the second goal which was later cancelled by the Video Assistant Referee, VAR.

Reports claim that the shock of seeing the goal cancelled led to his heart attack.
He was immediately rushed to the hospital but all efforts to revive him failed as he was pronounced dead.

5. Sales Rep.
Also a sales representative who works with one of the multi-national manufacturing companies in Nigeria, Nestle, died watching the match in Abeokuta.
The 43-year-old man, identified as Mikail Osundiji, allegedly died as a result of shock after the centre referee cancelled Nigeria’s second goal against South Africa, scored by striker Victor Osimhen, and awarded a penalty against the Super Eagles.
An elder sister to the deceased Adetunji Nofisat told the aforementioned publication that Osundiji suddenly breathed out heavily after the cancellation of Nigeria’s second goal, lowered his head and consequently fell to the ground at the viewing centre.

“That was when other people at the viewing centre rushed to him and took him to one of the private hospitals in Olomoore where the doctor on duty pronounced him dead,” she said.

Saudi Arabia To Open First Alcohol Store In Its Capital Exclusively For Diplomats – Report.

Saudi Arabia is preparing to open its first alcohol store in the capital Riyadh which will serve exclusively non-Muslim diplomats.

According to a source familiar with the plans and a document showed on Wednesday to Reuters, customers will have to register via a mobile app, get a clearance code from the foreign ministry, and respect monthly quotas with their purchases, the document said.

The move is a milestone in the kingdom's efforts, led by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, to open the ultra-conservative Muslim country for tourism and business as drinking alcohol is forbidden in Islam.
It is also part of wider plans known as Vision 2030 to build a post-oil economy.

The new store is located in Riyadh's Diplomatic Quarter, a neighbourhood where embassies and diplomats reside and will be "strictly restricted" to non-Muslims, the document said.
It was unclear if other non-Muslim expatriates will have access to the store. Millions of expatriates live in Saudi Arabia but most of them are Muslim workers from Asia and Egypt.

A source familiar with the plans said the store is expected to open in the coming weeks.

Saudi Arabia has strict laws against drinking alcohol which can be punishable by hundreds of lashes, deportation, fines, or imprisonment and expatriates also face deportation. As part of the reforms, whipping has largely been replaced by jail sentences.
Alcohol has been available only through diplomatic mail or on the black market.

The Saudi government did not respond to a request for comment.
State-controlled media reported this week that the government was imposing new restrictions on alcohol imports within the diplomatic consignments, which may boost demand for the new store.

The new regulation will curb imports to counter "improper exchange of special goods and alcoholic beverages received by the embassies of non-Muslim countries inside Saudi Arabia", Arab News daily reported on Sunday.

Saudi Arabia, which was relatively closed off for decades, has in recent years relaxed strict social codes, such as segregating men and women in public places and requiring women to wear all-covering black robes, or abayas.

Prince Mohammed's tightening grip on power has been accompanied by changes which included opening the country for non-religious tourism, concerts and allowing women to drive, as well as a crackdown on dissent and political rivals.

CBN, FAAN: Onuesoke Urges FG To Relocate Multinational Oil Firms To N’Delta

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Delta State governorship aspirant, Chief Sunny Onuesoke, has called on the Federal Government to relocate the headquarters of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and all multinational oil companies operating in the Niger Delta to the region.

Onuesoke resonated the demand with respect to the recent Federal Government’s order for the relocation of the headquarters of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to Lagos State.

The environmental activist who made the call yesterday in Asaba, Delta State, said the relocation of the headquarters of the multinational oil companies from Lagos to Niger Delta region was long overdue.

He recalled that on September 2021, the Senate passed a resolution for the relocation of multinational oil companies to Nigeri Delta region, adding that since then the matter had been swept under the carpet.

Onuesoke insisted that before the headquarters of CBN and FAAN would be relocated to Lagos as ordered by the Federal Government, the issue of relocation of headquarters of multinational oil companies from Lagos to Niger Delta region should be resolve in a case of first come, first serve.

According to him, “Most multinational and Nigerian oil and gas companies operating in the Niger Delta region had relocated their headquarters and operational bases to Lagos, citing security concerns and restiveness in the Niger Delta. Presently, all that had changed. The Niger Delta region is now more secured and peaceful than Lagos and other parts of the country.

”The Niger Delta people cannot continue to accept this kind of injustice. You can’t milk oil from our soil and then be paying royalty to other state(s) that don’t produce oil and gas. It is not done anywhere in the world. Communities in the Niger Delta region are the hens that lay the golden eggs, they should be allowed to benefit from it.

”The people of the Niger Delta must be treated fairly and must participate fully in the oil and gas sector. We must get our due benefits and not the usual crumbs.

“We must renegotiate the modus operandi of the oil companies with particular regards to the well-being of the Niger Delta people that are hosting these companies.”

On Thursday night, unidentified gunmen attacked Hilltop Phase 2 Extension of the Nigerian Army Post-Housing Estate, kidnapping a well-known businesswoman.

It was gathered that the heavily armed men invaded the area around 9 pm, shooting sporadically to scare residents, according to Daily Post.

A source told our reporter that the kidnappers had targeted the victim’s husband but missed him by a whisker.

The source said, “Yesterday at about 9 pm, some kidnappers entered this estate and kidnapped a woman at the Hilltop.

“The target was the husband but they couldn’t get him as he was not around but unfortunately, as the woman was driving into her compound, they got her.

“As her son started shouting, they too started shooting.

They went away with her through the hillside.

Soldiers have been deployed to trace them; hopefully they will be apprehended. The CCTV in the house captured them.”

The management of Benue State University (BSU), has announced a ban on dreadlock hair, make-up, skirts above knees, and other certain dress codes it deemed inappropriate and indecent.

The task force committee set up by the university which made this known in a statement issued on Saturday warned that the institution would sanction any student found violating the approved dress code.

The statement read, “The Taskforce Committee writes to address students on the dress code and artificiality both on campus and off-campus as follows:

“BOYS: No sagging, No Makeup, No dreading of hair (dada), No dyeing of hair (colouring of hair), No wearing of shorts/three-quarter trousers to Lectures, No leaving of hair uncombed, No wearing of armless shirts, No wearing of an earring, No plaiting of the hair, No keeping of heavy beards, No wearing crazy trousers and other indecencies.

“GIRLS: No body hug, No wearing of armless clothes, No dyeing of hair (colouring of hair), No wearing shorts, No exposure of sensible parts of the body, No Leg chain, No Nose ring, No putting of multiple earrings (only one earring is allowed).

“No folding of shirts on a trouser or skirt, only black and brown colour attachment is allowed, No wearing of crazy trousers, No wearing of skirts above the knees, No wearing of leggings without long top (shirt) and other related indecencies.

“Students should adhere to these rules, failure to comply shall attract sanctions from the university Management.”
