Politics / Catholic Bishops Of South Africa Respond To Xenophobic Attacks In Honest by masu: 11:54am On Sep 06, 2019
Catholic Bishops of South Africa respond to Xenophobic attacks in honest and courageous words.

_*Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference*_

CALL FOR PEACE AND CALM

It is with dismay that we take note of the recent upsurge in violence against foreign nationals, starting two weeks ago in the Johannesburg CBD, last week in Pretoria, and this week again in the Johannesburg CBD, Malvern, Turffontein and Krugersdorp.

Once again we receive reports of the authorities doing very little to protect the victims. We received report of police standing by idly in Pretoria while shops were looted and people attacked. Not a single arrest was made on that day.

Once again the authorities resort to the old explanation: that this is not xenophobia, but the work of criminal elements.

Let us be absolutely clear – this is not an attempt by concerned South Africans to rid our cities of drug dealers. And this is not the work of a few criminal elements. It is xenophobia, plain and simple. If it was about drugs, why are South African drug dealers not being targeted as well? Are we really to believe that there are none? And why are drug addicts who rob people in our city centres to get money to buy drugs not being targeted? If it is the work of a few criminal elements, why are South African owned businesses not being looted as well?

The teaching of the Church is direct and uncompromising. More than 80% of South Africans claim to be Christian. What are our religious leaders teaching the multitudes that fill our Churches every Sunday? Galatians 3:28 says: “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” By the same token, there is neither South African nor Nigerian nor Ethiopian. We are all one in Christ Jesus.

God makes it absolutely clear that He has a special concern for refugees, migrants and strangers. Deuteronomy 10:18 says: “He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing.” He isn’t just concerned about the foreigners. He loves them.

Jesus goes even further. Matthew 25 says: “I was a stranger and you welcomed me”.. He identifies directly with strangers. By welcoming a refugee or migrant, we are welcoming Jesus Himself.

In his scathing attack on the inactivity of people of good will to do anything against the Nazi tyranny in Germany, Pastor Martin Niemoller said:
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Let us take heed of this. We are facing a rising tide of hatred and intolerance, no different to the rising tide of hatred in Nazi Germany. If we do not take urgent action to stop it, there will be nothing left.

I appeal to all people of faith, and all people of good will, to speak out and take action. In the words of St Francis: “Make us channels of your peace”.

My prayer is that God will fulfil his promise made in Ezekiel 36:26:” I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”

Nigerian-born Tobechukwu Phillips Shatters American School’s 125-year Academic Record
16/May/2019 thisdaylive.com

Tobechukwu Phillips
A Nigerian-born teenager, Tobechukwu Phillips, has shattered the 125-year academic history of her high school in Texas, United States of America.
Phillips, a student of Alvin High School, boasted a 6.9 GPA (Great Point Average), after she earned A’s throughout her stay in the school.
She emerged the first black valedictorian in the school’s history.
Alvin High School was originally established in 1894. African-American students were allowed to join the school in 1965.
Speaking to Because of Them We Can, Phillips said, “Maintaining the highest GPA in my class is a difficult task. It truly takes time management but more importantly, acknowledging what you do it for. I know that I am no longer just representing myself.”

Phillips had a word of advice for other students.
She said, “My biggest advice to other scholars of colour is to truly adopt the mindset of Rosa Parks — ‘No.’ Do not conform to the stereotypes that have held us under thumbs for so long,” she explained. “Do not be discouraged when someone speaks out against you; simply allow what they say to fuel your fire. But more than anything, do not remain tight-lipped. Stand up for what you believe in and take it upon yourself to be the change you have always wanted. Say ‘No’ to the ways of the world and stick out.”
Phillips will attend the Nursing School at the University of Texas on full scholarship later in the year. Her plan is to one day own her own clinic as a pediatric nurse practitioner.

Politics / Most Powerful Minister Made Revealing Statement by masu: 9:22pm On Feb 11, 2019
Buhari’s most powerful minister just made revealing statement that could make PDP attack APC anti-corruption war AGAIN

One of the most powerful ministers in the administration cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari has made a revealing statement which could be seen as bad for Buhari’s anti-corruption war, PDP main opposition party could also use that as one of their major attacking points on the administration.

Mr Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Power, Works and Housing, said his power ministry has no record of corrupt contractors who ran away with government money without executing awarded contracts.

In some quarters, Fashola is seen as the most powerful minister in the administration of Buhari considering the combination of ministries put under his control.

Fashola said he had searched the record of the power ministry and he could not find any such contractor.

The minister stated this in a January 27 letter which he wrote to the anti-corruption group, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project.

SERAP had upper week sued Fashola at the Federal High Court in Lagos, seeking an order to compel him to publish the names of alleged defaulting contractors engaged by the Ministry of Power.

The group had said it resorted to suing Fashola after the minister allegedly shunned its request under the Freedom of Information Act for the names of the defaulting contractors, The Punch reported.

In a statement on Sunday by its Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, SERAP, however, received Fashola’s letter dated January 27 only on February 7, after it had gone to court.

The statement quoted the letter, signed on Fashola’s behalf by the Director of Legal Services in the Ministry of Power, Mrs Shoetan A. A., to have read partly, “I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated 4th January 2019 in which you applied for request to disclose details of alleged corrupt contractors and companies that collected money for electricity projects but failed to execute any projects. The request has been handled under the FOI Act.

“We have searched the ministry’s record and the information you applied for is not held by the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing (Power Sector).”

However, SERAP said it was not satisfied with the response and therefore urged Fashola to “take proactive steps to obtain the information from any other public institution or agency that may be holding the requested information, and to send to us the information without further delay.”

It urged Fashola not to wait until he was compelled by the court to oblige its request for the list of alleged corrupt contractors working with the power ministry.

SERAP’s demand followed a claim by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar that some contractors, who were awarded electricity contracts, disappeared after being fully paid for the contracts.

“The money went down the drain. Up till now, we are not holding the contractors responsible. People have collected money upfront 100 per cent and have disappeared, and they have not done any work,” Atiku was quoted to have said during a programme on Channels TV.

Is Mr Fashola telling Nigerians that there are no records of past contracts in his ministry?

Let’s know what you think through your comments

Education / Top 10 Most Educated Tribes In Nigeria by masu: 5:08pm On Feb 07, 2019
Top 10 most educated tribes in Nigeria

With over 370 tribes in Nigeria, it is hard to judge which community has the biggest number of educated people. The government does not count and report such statistics. Still, it is so interesting to know what is the most educated tribe in Nigeria, isn’t it?

Educated tribes in Nigeria
We have created a list that doesn’t have a specific order. These are just 10 tribes that come from all over Nigeria. Once again, this is just our ideas and we hope that our readers can offer their own views regarding the most educated state in Nigeria and the most educated people.

Igbo
This community is one of the biggest in Nigeria. There are many farmers and traders among Igbo people. It is believed that this tribe is very educated. By the way, many representatives of this tribe love to gain new knowledge, self-develop and implement creative business ideas into life.

Yes, Igbos have many businesspersons among them. There are even sayings that there is nothing good in places where you don’t meet Igbo businessmen.

Yoruba
This tribe is also one of the biggest in the country. Many of its representatives get high job positions, become professors, and reach other educational heights.

Yoruba people often become top managers and lead the companies.

Urhobo
The tribe mostly lives in the Niger Delta area. Just like many other modern communities, Urhobo people follow the trend and gain their education. Many families have their own professors.

Edo
These people like to migrate. They often go overseas searching for better life. Being highly civilized, they also get a good level of education.

Ijaw
This Nigerian tribe has many educated people. This is why we have added it to our list of the citizens who are schooled and continue to get knowledge, self-improve, and develop throughout their lives.

Itsekiri
The community lives in the same areas as Urhobo people. Representatives from Itsekiri tribe also do their best to get an education. If the family leader is not educated, he makes sure his kids would gain the knowledge in different spheres of life.

Isoko
This tribe doesn’t have as many people as other majority communities from Nigeria. Still, it is known that the representatives of Isoko community do get an education and deserve their place on our list.

Calabar
Many of us like the interesting intonation you can hear when a Calabar person speaks. This tribe is educated. You can watch Nollywood movies to understand this.

Ibibio
Is this tribe schooled? Like many other communities, Ibibios also get their education and many of the members know a lot.

Hausa
This ethnic group is also one of the largest in Nigeria along with Yoruba and Igbo. This community prefers the life in villages and small towns as well as rural areas.

Hausa who live in big cities are educated. They like to explore new spheres and they are good at planning. Many representatives of this tribe are good entrepreneurs.

Those members who live in rural territories get a lower level of education. Most of these people cannot read or write and have to work in agriculture or stay unemployed.

Many individuals of hundreds of Nigerian tribes do get an education too This includes the Nupe people, Ndoro, Igalla, Jaku, Kamo, and many other communities we haven’t listed.

This is one of the reason why I said we need to revamp our educational system.
Too many people with very poor level of comprehension and their phobia for anything Islām.

Whenever you read any news that strictly concerns muslims and their faith, you just jump into it like a bull in a China shop because to you, when you hear or read Islām anywhere you one-half less thinking brain read "islamization" "Islamization".

If you are so pained muslims are demanding what is naturally in their religion why not request or demand for yours .

Is. it so difficult.
Who is even forcing you?

Bunch of jobless busybodies.

What is the national crime beer sellers in Kano state committed sir,

Our collective fear is the examples you guys continually giving us in Kano state through Hisbah Police.

It's not about what Muslims said before Sharia approvals that matters but how they will end up using Sharia over non Muslims in a Muslim dominated states.

That time When we begin to talk, you will hear something like leave their state if you don't like what they do, as if it's no more Nigeria or we are not Nigerian again.

Bro, how could you b55 his claim with this ? Here, he was only making a suggestion 24 years after June 12 episode. He spoke at an OPC event organised in rememberance of the event. He might've even been speaking politically correct in order to please his hosts.
Kalu is a criminal. He claimed to have declared June 12 as public holiday which he never did but only suggested it 24 years after the event.
Please always look well before you leap.
Thanks.

Orji Uzor Kalu can be hated as much as anyone wishes but I Blv him on this. Read what Joe Odumakin said about Him.

Also, rights activist, Dr. Joe Odumakin, commended Kalu for being the first governor to declare June 12 public holiday whyen he was in office.

“It is very delightful to know that the spirit of June 12 is still alive. When Kalu was the governor of Abia state, he was the first person to declare a public holiday to commemorate June 12 and we commended him for that. I join by voice to other patriotic Nigerians who demand that June 12 be declared the Democracy Day for Nigeria because it symbolises the promotion of positive ideals and national integrity,” she said."

What is wrong with asking for proof to prove his claims ? That it erks you is a prove it's a fucking lie.
No SE state ever declared June 12 public holiday, ever. We know your attitude to the issue and are not likely to have forgotten it.
Kalu was talking to people with low cognitive reasoning and only such people can take his lies hook, line and sinker as true.
If Kalu is the stuff you have as presidential element, then you are building castles in the air.
Astute people can never vote for people with credibility problems again.

Kalu is being used as errand boy in return for being left off the hook by EFCC for his proven fraudulent cases that are many.
Sorry bro, try another gimmick.

Fulani/hausa are using every tools they have both home and abroad to fight gej government and win election. Otherwise How do we esplain this statement from niger rep president. Even if he is the one that call on the war on bokoboys tell me the rational in saying that gej is never ready? We all can see a political undertune for their naija kinsman fulani/hausas.

I also dont like gej style of governance but with the collaboration of fulani/hausa with their brothers in niger rep, cameroon and chad to put back fulanis to power by all means possible, i must say southern nigeria and northern minorities are in big trouble in the future.

They recruit bokoboys mostly from chad niger and cameroon, they are your brothers mr.president from niger rep.
Pls dont form any superman since you guys has link and supports to bokoboys ,

Your fights on bokoboys starts from the moment gej acquired enough terrorist weapons and visits you to join him in combating them if i must remind you.
